I purchased a condo and needed the cable rerun. A+ stated they could run the cable to the 3rd floor. They then sold me a service contract to cover the cable and inspect the AC. They showed up and looked at the AC. Told me they no longer had an electrician which is the only reason I called them. They proceeded to try to sell me two AC units when I wanted an electrician which they never provided. Total ripoff. Now, they continue to send me mailings for their crappy services. I have called five times to get removed without success. Do not use them. They are horrible. read more

Run, Far, Far, Away In March 2024, I tried to get an electrician out to hook up cable on my 3rd floor condo. A+ had electricians and did an upsell over the phone on how they would run the cable and also inspect my AC under a service contract for an additional fee. I had the service call and there was no electrician. They just said they wouldn't run cable and proceeded to tell me I needed to replace both AC units. Now my call was really for the electrician for cable. I told them that and they said we don't provide that service right now...so I am out a few hundred for a service call that didn't provide the one service I needed. I ended up getting another electrician who ran my cable. Later on, I got a different AC company Montgomery Coastal Cool out of Myrtle Beach to put in my AC unit. They did a great job and only replaced the one unit last year. For the past year, I have tried to get them to take me off their mailing list. I have call 4 times and told them to take me off, but they continue to mail me advertisements. Run very far if they come out. They do an awful job and push for items you don't need by upselling their services they don't provide. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. read more

My AC died at my home on Oak Island in June 2024. I had been using A+ to maintain the system, so I asked them to come quote a new system. They only sell Lennox (a brand I like), and the sales rep (Lucas Wright) quoted me a 3-ton system to fit my home. Then he called back the next day to ask if he could return with his GM to confirm the system size, and they decided that I needed a larger 4-ton system. I agreed and they scheduled the install in July. They came and installed the whole system (condenser, air handler, line set, thermostat), and then called again the next day to admit that they installed the WRONG system - they installed the 3-ton system from his initial quote due to a paperwork SNAFU. They came back a week later at the end of July and pulled out all that new equipment to install the larger 4-ton system. I wish that was the end of the pain. The system was quoted including a $625 rebate from Lennox and Lucas said he would handle all the paperwork. At least 6 weeks passed after the install(s), but he was not returning my calls or texts, and my rebate was not submitted. I went to Lennox directly to submit the rebate, but I needed a receipt for my 4-ton system. The receipt I had was for the 3-ton system and its serial numbers. They changed it by hand to add the corrected data, but the date was still the initial install date, so the receipt looked pretty janky. Lennox said they needed someone from A+ to log into their system to confirm everything before I would get my rebate. Lucas said he would handle it, but then another 3 weeks passed. I texted him and called him but no response. I called A+ and left at least 4 messages for his manager (Andy) but he never returned any of my calls. Eventually, (October) I called Lennox and spoke to a supervisor and explained that I could not get anyone from this firm to engage with me. They escalated the rebate internally and although the rebate had expired by this point, they issued the rebate based on what I had submitted - and I finally received it at the end of October. This company maintained my system for several years without an issue, and the (second) system they installed is working well, but they were unable or unwilling to do what they promised around the rebate they offered, and it cost me many hours of personal time and frustration trying to work with Lennox due to their lack of response and refusal to do what was promised. read more

One of my systems had quit working so I called A+ as I have trusted them with new systems and issues in the past. They came out right away and determined that my compressor was fried. I decided to get a new system since I live on the water and needed something coastal rated. I went with a new Lennox system and they came out and put it in within 1 day. Mark and Lathem were very professional, friendly and answered all questions that I had. They explained everything so that I understood right down to the new "smart" thermostat. They cleaned up the area before they left and made sure everything was running smoothly. I highly recommend A+ Heating and Cooling. Our air conditioner went out on Friday. I called Friday evening and made an appointment. I was told someone would be at the house the next day (Saturday) between 12:00-5:00. Nobody showed up nor called to communicate. I called after 5:00 to see what was going on and spoke with Zachary. He stated they had no air techs available and it was the weekend. I understand things happen but my issue is I had someone waiting at my house for 5 hours while I was working and not a single person called to communicate nobody was coming or available after the appointment had been made. I asked why no one called to give me a heads up and if anyone would be coming that day as temp inside were reaching 80. He stated he can't guarantee that and reiterated it was the weekend. He offered no apologies or understanding. I asked to speak to a manager/supervisor. Zachary stated he did not know any names of managers and no one was there for me to speak with. He offered no solution or help and was very rude and snickered multiple times. Had someone communicated we would not have had to go without A.C. an extra day..We went with a different company who came out on Sunday and fixed the issue within 10 minutes. I do not recommend this company due to their lack of professionalism and communication. read more

If you are thinking about using this firm, don't. In February 2021 we paid $11,600 to replace our AC units, indoor and outdoor. We paid extra for a 10 year Parts and Labor Warranty for peace of mind. Wasted money. Since then we have had repeated failures. We had an extended Summer failure. A+ dropped off a portable AC Unit which helped a little bit but it took weeks to get AC working again. The tech also claimed he had ordered a replacement for a defective circuit board for the unit, but never came to install it. When he came for a later service, I asked him about it. He claimed he had already installed it (!). Did he misremember? Maybe, but I don't trust him now. Now, last night, I called again because the heat failed in the middle of the night and I woke up shivering. The house went down to 62 degrees. I fiddled around with the control and after 2 or 3 hours the heat went back on. The tech arrived late the next afternoon and the tech - same guy! - said . . . . wait for it. . . . our circuit board is bad!! It is intermittent and could fail at any time!! It will take 7 to 10 days to get a new board (if it ever arrives). The temps tonight are freezing and I am very concerned about pipes freezing. I asked him if his employer would get the circuit board overnighted, or agree to pay for frozen pipes. He said "I'm just a tech, you have to talk to the office about that." So I called the office immediately (still during business hours) and asked to talk to the service manager. They said they would have him call me. You know what happened next. . . . Nothing. No call back. When I followed up after hours they said they would send another message but it would take time because it was. . . . after hours. I did get one useful piece of information. The General Manager's name is Carmine Serrano. Mr. Serrano, give me a call to make this right. A+ is looking like ARS right now and it's not a good look. And really not a fair return for an $11,600 investment. I wish I had read reviews here before I hired A+. read more

We purchased our two RUDD HVAC units from A+ Heating and Cooling. June 19, 2023 we called for service when we discovered the larger unit wasn't working, and they were prompt in response. Estimated repair came to over $1,850 and was paid up front by credit card. We were told the repairs could be done as soon as June. 21. Despite many calls and turned away guests at our beach house, they still had no fixed our unit, and continuously stated the parts were on back order. We called another local HVAC company, they checked the unit, and gave the same repair diagnosis - at less than 1/2 the price. They repaired our unit in less than a week. I hired this company for my elderly parents. I do not know how Chris and Justin sleep at night. My husband has his Master HVAC license in the state of KY. prior to hiring this company we traveled to Southport, NC to look at my parents unit to make sure the unit was in good condition and there were no issues with the system. We signed my parents up on the maintenance agreement with A+ The first appointment was within a week of my husband looking at it. They sent a tech and a salesman for the first maintenance and tried selling a new unit. I called the office to remind them we were just there. They said they to scratch the 1st visit and they sent out a senior tech. NOTHING was wrong with unit. Fast forward to last weeks appointment. The same tech came out and told my parents they needed 2lbs of Freon for nearly $300.00. A+ was advised from the start to never repair anything without contacting us first. Well my elderly Dad did not know and allowed them to put it in. Once again I called the office and again a senior tech was sent. The unit was over filled with Freon and some needed to be removed. For anyone that does not know or understand a HVAC unit it will never loose Freon unless there is a leak. There was NO leak found. They resorted to claiming the schrader valve was leaking. This valve is the same as on a car tire. When a tech connects the gauges the Freon could leak. That is on the tech not the customer. Called the office several times to get a refund but both managers Chris and Justin never had the managerial skills to call back. This is absolutely the worst HVAC company. They are only ripping people off and it's a disgrace especially when it comes to the elderly. We were having a new kitchen countertop installed and needed a small wall demo'ed and 3 electrical outlets moved. Their guy came out and said that the cost would be $1220 just for the electrical work, we would have to find someone for the demo. He showed me the quote on his iPad but could not give me a written quote. Thankfully our countertop company put me in touch with a guy who did it ALL both demo and electric, for $450. These guys are thieves! Oh yes, by the way, they put a review on their website IN MY NAME saying that I was very pleased with their quote and gave them 5 stars !. We purchased our home new 3 years ago, but the contractor only put in what was absolutely necessary to pass inspection. The unit was not the proper tonage for the size home, so we had issues from day one. After searching around for reputable companies, we chose A+ and they have been wonderful! Always came out on a moments notice and have always tried to save us money on repairs. This year, we purchased an entirely new AC system from them and couldn't be happier. The new unit saves us so much money on our utility bill, it was well worth the initial expense! The electric company even helped out with a small improvement loan to help us get the unit! I absolutely Do Not recommend this company. My A/C went out last wk.,& my unit is still under warranty. I also have a 10 yr labor warranty which apparently the salesman made a big mistake with this because after the first yr. I was told by one of the ladies I spoke to on the phone, that I only had a 1 yr labor warranty. I had to email them my contract to show them, which of course they already knew. There have been various little things through the yrs they've told me I needed and I knew this was them trying to get some of their money back b/c last yr when they had to replace a part that went bad, they of course did not get paid any extra for labor. This time I was told it was my TXV valve and that it had caused the refrigerant to leak out. Was given an estimate for 9 lbs. for just the refrigerant of $1238.40. This price the technician said was if I bought a membership for $199.00 to get a 20% discount. My total estimate was $1534.43! So I did some research and called out another company. He found the part locally and fixed it and Amazingly, it did NOT require any Refrigerant! I had to pay labor to this company which was a fraction of the cost A+ was charging me. So I feel like they achieved their goal, not to have to lose any money because of the labor. So I sent an email to one of their customer solutions advocates, who had sent me messages asking if I wanted to discuss my options but he never responded back, but no surprise there. I told him either their company was very dishonest and tried to scam me, or the two that came out and told me it needed refrigerant needs to be sent back to school. Now I have no faith at all in this company . Do your due diligence if you need a heating and cooling company in your area. read more

I definitely would not recommend these people to anyone. Had a technician come out because the unit was not cooling. He tells me I need a thermostat, he never checked the furnace or handler and charged over $700. A day and a half later I noticed moisture from the ceiling and called them back out.He goes in the attic an says the drain pan has a whole and it cost around $1000. Then he tells me I should probably get a new unit and quote me a $10000 price. I definitely get a second and third opinion to find out I never needed a thermostat, just maintenance and cleaning. I've been reaching out to these people for over a month now for them to come and get this thermostat and refund my money, only for them to keep saying they waiting to hear from the GM. They clearly are avoiding the issue and are not trying to handle the matter. I have never heard of not being able to connect to your upper management for as long as these people are claiming. The customer service is ridiculous. Do not trust these people to honor their words for dissatisfied customers, they are a rip off. Sent in other invoices and all. I wouldn't give them 1 star but had to in order to spread the word. read more

They deliberately misdiagnosed my HVAC problem, said it was a refrigerant leak in the coils somewhere. They said it would be extremely costly to find and repair the leak with no guarantee that another leak would not happen since the unit was almost "on it's last legs". The Technician even faked the "leak" with his gauges to prove his point. They insisted I needed to replace the whole system for $15,000 since my system was almost 15 years old, and if I signed the papers right then and there they could have the new unit installed in two day (this all occurred during the 90+ degree days in July). I was subjected to a big doom-and-gloom scenario and significant pressure to buy. I knew my system was only 8 years old, and refused to sign up for anything. I called another company, they diagnosed the problem was a dead motor that had been killed by a power surge. That company also told me there was no leak and no shortage of refrigerant, which proved to me the A+ Snowman people were engaged in a pre-planned high-pressure rip-off. My HVAC was repaired for about $600, parts and labor. I have filed complaints with the NC Attorney General's Consumer Protection Office and with the NC State Board of Examiners of Plumbing. read more

Around March 10th of this year we hired A+ Heating & Cooling to replace our HVAC unit that was 12 years old. We upsized to a 4 ton unit due to adding a sunroom to our house. We were told that would be more than adequate to handle the amount of heated square footage we had which it wasn't. They made the installation of the new and removed the old. After the installers had completed the job and left that day, I was in my driveway about to bring my cars back in when I saw a lot of broken glass and sheet medal screws on my drive. Luckily I saw them or I would have been replacing tires. I cleaned that up and then went into the attic where the installation was done and found all kinds of trash left up there that I had to clean up. To say the least I was not real happy with the installers. About 2 weeks later my A/C quit working up stairs and I called their company. The technician came out and found the new Zone board they put in was already bad. They replaced it and all was well. approximately 3 weeks later, we were sitting in our family room and heard water running. We got up and went in the kitchen and water was pouring down through our ceiling. I called A+ again and they sent out another serviceman. When he got here he found the installers had failed to cap off a drain line from the condensation pan and all the water from the pan was coming through our ceiling. He got that corrected and my wife and I had to clean up all the mess in the kitchen that was created. He took pictures of our ceiling that was damaged and said he would take them back to the office and submit to have the ceiling repaired. I also asked him to have the general manager to call me so we could discuss all these issues we were having. She never bothered to call and no one ever contacted us to fix the ceiling. I continued to call for the manager and left messages but again she never called. Approximately 3 weeks later, we were again sitting in our family room and we started to hear water running again. When we checked, water was again running through our kitchen ceiling, flooding our kitchen. I once again called A+ and they sent a service man out. He found the drain lines to the condensation pan had been installed incorrectly and the water was flooding over the pan versus going out the drain lines. He took pictures and assured me that the manager would be calling me the next day after he showed her what he had found. My wife and myself again cleaned up the mess in the kitchen from the flooding. The service guy again took pictures of the kitchen ceiling that was damaged that had never been fixed from the previous incident. I told the service tech I definitely needed to hear from the manager immediately so we could get our ceiling repaired and discuss all these issues we were having. To this day which is 6 months later, we having heard from the manager or anyone else to fix our damaged ceiling. I typically don't write reviews being a Realtor, because I know how important customer service is. I know this is trying times with the Covid pandemic, but I don't think that is any excuse for the service this company is providing. Before using this company, you may want to do your due diligence and select a company that truly believes in customer service, follows up with their customers and has a much better installation department. read more

We encountered a problem over the weekend, with our unit which is approximately a year old. We spoke to a tech over the weekend he helped us in getting some heat in our home. We left a message over the weekend to contact technician Robert to come over because the interior house temp was still not doing well. Robert, is true professional, he exhibits a true knowledge of any issue he encounters. Not only that but he takes the time to explain the technical function of our unit. This is what we respect the most about Robert, he will take the time to explain everything even though we are women it is our experience that most men think it is a complete waste to explain anything to a women. I was on vacation at a friends condo and the A/C went out on a Saturday night. Sunday morning at 9:40 I called A+ and advised the answering service of my issue. An hour later, I still had not received a call back. The information on Yelp states they will respond within 20 minutes. Hmmm, I called back around 11 and the service told me the ticket was picked up at 10 and they had no idea why someone hadn't contacted me yet. They offered to page them again and this time about a half an hour later, I received a call. I was told by the technician that he could not promise me that they would get to me that day, the owner "didn't have a service contract". The next day at 9:30 again, I contacted the company, now a Monday morning and the receptionist again told me that we didn't have a service contract (I came to find out this means "We don't want to help you") but they would put my ticket on the board (funny, I thought that was done the day before..) and it would be dispatched. At 12:30 I called back to ask if there was any kind of time frame when I could expect someone since it was getting quite hot in the condo. The receptionist, who was not the friendliest, reminded me again that we didn't have a service contract but I was "on the board". At 1:00 I contacted another local HVAC company and asked them if they could be to my condo that day. They assured me they could and by 3:30 my A/C was working again - thanks to the other company. When I called back to cancel with A+, the receptionist was again not very nice and was bristly when I asked her to cancel. This company promises emergency services (on Yelp) and not once did they ever tell me they could not help me due to the owner not having a "service contract". I understand that those with that golden contract get priority service, but I waited well over 24 hours for someone to respond, to which they never did. The other company was at my address in about an hour. That mixed with the rudeness of the receptionist, I strongly recommend against using this company. read more

Jonathan returned our call quickly, found the issue, got the unit working and a replacement part ordered the same day. He installed the replacement part on Monday. Tim performed my semi-annual heat pump service. Tim arrived a few minutes later than planned but he called well in advance to let me know he would be delayed. Tim did a thorough and diligent job; further, he answered thoughtfully and helpfully several questions I had about my system. After listening careful to my concerns he recommended a couple of accessories that would enhance our interior filtration and extend the life of our outdoor unit. I was grateful for his suggestions and implemented one of them requiring an unplanned installation. Seeing how much attention we received while he was here I was not inconvenienced a bit that he was a few minutes late-he was likely giving another customer similar quality service. What a mess A+ got us in with our repair. We were under warranty for the repair needed but they told us we weren't and tried to charge us $1500 for parts and labor. My wife called Carrier, filed the warranty information with them then called A+ back to let them know the details and they still tried to tell us they had no idea what we were talking about. Once all this was straightened out we were given a labor quote and told the part was on track for a Thursday delivery and install. Thursday afternoon rolls around and I give A+ a call to ask where the part and person coming to install it was their response was they don't have a tracking number for the part, don't know where it's coming from, they could only find one blower motor for my unit, but it wouldn't be Thursday that it would be installed. Knowing that meant it was possible it wouldn't be until sometime next week our unit would be glfixed I called another company. That company found the part locally, took care of the warranty, and had it installed free of labor on Friday. When I called A+ to cancel them on coming out they magically received the part at 3:30 on Thursday and were going to come install it. We went a week with out AC waiting on A+ and will never go this route again! My best advice is steer clear of A+ and call a company who can get the job done right, honest, and on time. read more

If you want to be treating as though you don't matter this is the company to call. They do not communicate between their office in Ocean Isle and Southport. It took two weeks to get my system repaired. It went out on May 29 and was finally repaired on June 12. During the process I had to call the office to find out what was going on because neither office called to keep me informed on what was happening. They first came out on Wednesday(5/29) to look at the unit which was miss diagnosed, the part was not ordered until Friday which meant I went five days with no AC. The part came in on Monday (6/3) but I had to wait until (6/5) to have it installed at which time it was discovered that the part was bad and another had to be ordered. A window unit was offered to me but I had to go and pick it up from their Southport office no one offered to bring it to my house, when I arrived at the Southport office they acted as though they did not know who I was or the ordeal I had been going through because the staff in Ocean Isle(Shannon) did communicate with them the problem I had been having. The new part was installed on Friday (6/7) while I was at work when I came home the system was still not working. I called the after hours line and the tech came out to look and then I was told that the problem was the compressor which of course had to be order so another weekend with no AC. My system was installed by A+ in 2016 so it is still under warranty but they charged me $640.00 in labor. The technician named Rick is the only person who sincerely seems to care about me. read more
