Report one year out: Jake's Installed a Concord LYNX 2 stage system with a variable speed blower in our home one year ago. The system has worked flawlessly since. The energy savings has materialized as promised. The best part is it's QUIET and the temperature is consistent. The price was middling of all the estimates I got. It seems like we often will expend energy to place a review when we are unhappy. I felt like we should also take the time to leave a review when things go well. I have read all the reviews and they are not representative of my experience after 30 years here at the beach. I have had experience with four separate HVAC contractors in the North Myrtle beach area, and three in different states. I can say Jake's technicians are technically superior to the average technician anywhere and the owner is the most responsive and knowledgable I have come across. We hired a different contractor on a major new condominium building installation (see photo) after others would not bid. I did not know Jake's at the time. That contractor subcontracted the work to an incompetent crew whose work was subpar and not all according to spec. We fired that contractor part way through and Jake's came to our rescue. They inspected the work, told us what it would take to repair it, and finished the installation. They have had our HOA's full building service contract for four years and we are very happy with their work. Jake's are real professionals. read more

I'm very disappointed in Jake's. My parent's were customers for over 15 years. Any company that would take advantage of a Widow doesn't deserve to be in business. We discovered mold in the ducts at my mom's house and called Jake's in. They did some form of preliminary work, including a $500+ part to help remedy this situation in the future. They then quoted my mom over $7,000 for a cleanup job. We went to her homeowners insurance, who brought in another company. Ironically, the professional who came in knows the owner of Jake's. He confirmed to my mom that the $500 part is no where to be found. Told my mom to contact this owner and he would makes things right. A third company later confirmed the part was not there to avoid any conflicts of interest. That was weeks ago. Apparently the owner doesn't have time for a customer of 15 years. What they DO have time for is ripping people off. We brought in two other companies and for identical or more work, both jobs came in under $2,000. These companies were given no background on what other companies had been there or other prices quoted. My mom then asked the technician, I believe the one who is referred to on here recently as excellent and so attentive, had ignored her multiple requests for an itemized list of what she has already paid for. I challenge ANYONE from Jake's to refute anything that was said on this review. Your company prays on the vulnerable. And now if her system went out tomorrow (which it has multiple times and is less then 5 years old), I have no doubt Jake's would let her sit there and sweat while they pout about being caught. TO THE OWNER: Do what is right, I expect you to refund her fully for all "work" done, completely refund her service contract that she just paid you, and provide her a written apology. Just moved into a home in Ocean Isle and ceiling was wet. They came out, diagnosed condensation problem and sent me an estimate of $400-$900 to repair. Then I found out they came out before we moved in and it's the same problem as before and thought it was fixed. I called another company to come out and he said "it's just a clogged drain line." The cost $150. The mistake of Jake's also cost me to repair the ceiling and having to repaint it. When I brought this to their attention he said "we don't do that kind of work." read more

I would like to share my experience with everybody. My air conditioner went out yesterday(90degrees out), I called Carrier to find a authorized dealer in my area. Found out my unit was under warranty. I called the dealer they suggested, Jake's in little river. Brett answered the phone took to information needed and told me someone would be out between 3 and 5. At 2:15 the serviceman was at the door. Checked out the unit and determined it was the motor and it could take a day or two to get another as they didn't have one in stock. We made it through the night. First thing in the morning I called Brett to see if the replacement unit arrived. It did and he sent a service man out and within 1 hour air was back on. read more

Called Jakes Heating & Cooling back in January because our AC froze up. They came out and fixed it and replaced to computer boards and defrost part. Just last week it froze again, they come out and tell us couldn't find anything wrong, and the guy said he wasn't sure why it froze after checking everything and didn't charge us. Today we received a bill for $109 for just coming out. We will never refer anyone to them or use them again. What a ripoff!!! read more

So I call these folks with a simple AC duct work job. The guy comes out and is super nice and says yes we can fix this no problem at all and that he will be back at 3 o'clock to repair this minor issue. 3 o'clock comes and goes then it's quarter till five and I call and Brent in the office and he tells me they were supposed to be there at 3 o'clock. Brent put me on hold and call the technician and the technician tells him that since it's raining they can't do the work. The worst customer service on the planet! Nothing worse then wasting a customers entire day and then not showing up to do the job as promised!!!! Never Again! read more

Dianostics are expertly performed and an estimate is given and approved before the work is done . This beach enviroment requires a special experienced techinician to keep systems running efficiently. We've had an annual service contract with Jake's since they bought out the prior vendor. We were satisfied with the service and the techs - but it always seemed that they had to be reminded to actually order replacement filters when they were on site for the service call. Then inevitably we would have to follow up to get them to actually place the order. This last time around, the bill for the filter cartridge was $168.13 - a whopping $40 some odd dollars more than the prior service. I decided to check online to see what the OEM filters went for, and they are almost universally sold at $89. I can see building in 20% for reselling it - but NINETY PERCENT seems a bit much. They also claim to give service contract holders a discount - but when I called to complain, none was forthcoming. When I told them they were gouging on price, the response was that (they) "had to find a way to pay for the service call". You can be sure that once this contract is up, we will going to a different HVAC maintenance provider - one whom we can trust! Do yourselves a favor, and find someone else. read more

We were looking for a HVAC company that charges fair prices; Jakes is not it. We have used the national chain companies and had very expensive repairs. Jake's rates were just as high as the national chains, but their technicians seem to be more competent. The technician didn't have a good leak tester with him the first time, so he had to come out again with a better leak tester. We were charged for the return trip, which was totally their fault. The part did not come in when expected, and the office failed to let us know that the repair would be delayed. We finally called them and arranged to have the repair made the following day because the part still had not been delivered. We were out running errands, when they called and said the technician would be at our house in a half hour. The communications from this company definitely needs improvement. The technician was very nice and seemed to know what he was doing, when he had the right equipment. Hopefully, this expensive repair (the cost of a new heat pump) will keep the unit running for a long time. read more
