Talked with - I believe one of the owners - she said it was just her and her husband running the place. The restaurant was quiet with just us and one other couple inside on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered two brisket sandwiches and an order of pulled pork nachos. The food was good, brisket was a little dry, but no real complaints. They had 3 sauce options you could put into to-go containers yourself to try out, we opted for the southern comfort I believe and it was good BBQ! Also a nice touch I saw is they sold farm fresh eggs. My only two critiques would be phone etiquette and inventorying expired product. We called ahead of time to make sure the restaurant was open with it being a holiday weekend. Once the phone was answered on the other end, it was silent for about 30 seconds then we were given just a "Hello?". We had to confirm we were calling Cherry Red Roasters instead of calling someone's personal phone. We were given sour cream I believe in a packet to go with our nachos, but the expiry date on the packet was 5/13/2025 when the date we dinned was 5/25/2025.

I was the only customer and wasn't even sure they were open. This was 3:30 on the Sunday after thanksgiving. The owner was there and took my order. I had 6 oz of sliced brisket and 6oz of smoked pork sausage. The sausage was delicious. I was actually sad when I had finished it all because o wanted more. The brisket was very tender and juicy, but it needed some sauce. Since I got my order to go I tried some of their sauces and settled on the cherry bomb. This isn't food you can eat while driving, but it's worth the stop. When I think of the line of cars at the Dairy Queen I think those people are really missing out. For 2 minutes further they could have had a great meal. I will be going back to try the sides. FYI the place was clean and somewhat charming. A real pleasure.

The pork tenderloin, also known as BPT (b is for breaded) is a popular sandwich in the Upper…read moreMidwest, particularly in Iowa and Indiana. And occasionally in Illinois. It's similar to Wienerschnitzel. A pork cutlet is cut and then smashed to make it larger and thinner, dipped in breading, sometimes cornmeal, panko, crushed saltines and deep-fried. It is usually served on a hamburger bun, garnished with any or all: tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, pickles, onions. Frequently accompanied by fries as a side. There's been a friendly competition among purveyors to lay claim to the title of "the largest," and certainly in Illinois the small town of Smitty's in Leonore, takes the title. Leonore is a booming locale south of Lasalle-Peru, 100 miles West of Chicago. Population 13o. I rolled down there on a Saturday, aiming to beat the lunch "crowd" so I called in my order (still, as of this date, curbside service only). Both I and the sandwich arrived at the same time, and like those who have gone before, I agree, this baby is YUGE. And delicious. Proper amount of breading, gently seasoned, good quality pork taste and texture. Excellent pickles and fresh cut onions. There are tables outdoor for diners to enjoy their BPT's or other items until the interior opens up again. Worth a drive. Iowa has an entire "Tenderloin Trail" you can try and conquer. Go on, go for it. You know you want to!

The fish meal included a salad bar and fries. I rarely see a salad bar offered ANYWHERE anymore; it wasn't much, but it was good. The fish and fries were decent... you have the option on walleye, cod, or a mix. The initial serving is 4 pieces of fish. I opted to do the mix (2 of each). Definitely liked the walleye best. The cod was decent, but also a bit more chewy that the walleye. The fish wasn't quite as flaky as I would have liked, so not sure if it was the quality of the filets or how they were cooked. Nonetheless, the meal was good and reasonably priced for an all-you-can-eat. It was a bit out of the way for us, so not sure I would make the longer trip for the fish, but it was definitely worth the try.

At first, I was disappointed they didn't have Chicago Italian beef. So I asked what they would recommend, and the very polite lady behind the counter said, "You should try my meatball sub." I laughed and told her, "I don't know... my late grandma (100% Italian) made the best meatballs ever, but alright, let's do it." Then she asked, "Do you want peppers?" and of course my reply was, "Heck yeah!" She chuckled. When the sub came out, I have to say, it was huge. I sat down, took one quick smell and a bite... BOOM. I was instantly transported back to my grandma's kitchen, eating Saturday pasta and meatballs. I highly recommend checking this little gem out. The service, the atmosphere, and especially the food were all amazing. I definitely was not disappointed. P.S. Don't skip the desserts -- once again, absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for the memories and the great experience!
