Good BBQ. Cool weekend outdoor area for the summer and good service. Built into an old John Deere Dealership from the 30s.

Hubby got the chicken, brisket, and sausage.

The hubby is staying at a hotel in town because it's close to work. Anyhow, we stopped here for dinner. I had the chicken and rib platter but they were out of ribs so I was offered brisket as a substitute. My sided were garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower salad. The meat was prepared perfectly. The mashed potatoes were very flavorful. The salad was bland. No flavor, raisins, sunflower seeds, bacon bits or anything. The restaurant small and cold. Cute with decor but not comfortable with seating. Only counter service. He was pleasant and did the best he could. The prices were very reasonable. Will try another option and take it to go next time.

Took a motorcycle ride here from Indiana. The set up is really cool. Open air bar in the center connected by a BBQ place and on the other side a bar/concert/ hall rental. Food was good. The bbq is the main money maker. I don't think it has any seasoning but the homemade bbq sauces make up for it when applied. The have fried green tomatoes. I don't think they are homemade but we're still good. BBQ ChipsBeef BrisketBarbeque

I came on a recommendation also seeing that this place had a 4 star rating. I first asked to try their brisket and I did not like it at all. It lacked flavor & no smoke ring at all!! Smoke flavor non-existent sad but true. I ordered the pulled pork this had slight smoke flavor but it tasted like it came out Of a crockpot. Disappointed. My sides were home made chips and slaw. Chip were good and slaw was on the bland side not impressed. My company 9 total also agreed that our visit was disappointing. On top of a bad meal we had gnats flying around like crazy. Price was average. I cannot recommend this place. Last thing the cashier female was a crabby patty on the ignorant side.

If you like beef brisket, get it here! Except for what we make at home, this is the best beef brisket! I love their Cherry BBQ sauce, but with 5 different varieties at every table, you are sure to find one you like too! I also love their coke slaw. It's crunchy and creamy. Perfection. The atmosphere is what you'd expect at an out-of-the-way smokehouse, but it's always clean. Put this on you "to do" list. It's not too be missed!

Given it's double the price of a single meat platter, I expected it to comfortably feed two. On the platter were two solid ribs, a quarter dark chicken, and one hot link which were all solid sharing portions. Brisket which I understand would be one of the more expensive items - was one slice plus a sliver of a dry end attached to it. I'm not sure if that's one slice or a one slice plus what one was counting as a second slice. This was a disappointing mark - I thought about asking the server about whether we should have at least a full second slice. Pulled pork - to me is a much less expensive item compared to brisket - yet a relatively small amount. Not as egregious as the easily measured brisket. Cole slaw - even if it was made in house as opposed a commercial bulk supplier, this is a low cost item no? Small dish. Quality is very good - just a question of the quantity. Tap water here seems filtered for neutral taste. It was a nice day on a quiet Sunday afternoon so we opted to get seated outside on the patio with umbrella shade. Traffic going by was light and quiet. Two servers available during the lull while we were there and the worked as a team to check on us outside.

All very good and great smoke flavor Ang quality of meat. They serve them with just dry rub but had a great selection of sauces on the tables. I added a side of chipotle Mac & cheese with ham and it too did not disappoint, very flavorful and a healthy portion. The wait staff was friendly and very quick to serve us even though there were 6 at our table. It was a nice night and we all sat out on the patio. They also had a good selection of craft beer which pairs so well with the BBQ.

I found this restaurant to be very expensive for what you actually get. Everything on the menu is à…read morela carte, so the costs add up quickly. To make matters worse, the sides are incredibly small. When our sides arrived, they were served in tiny Styrofoam cups and contained no more than two tablespoons of food. It is definitely not worth the price. My husband, son, and my mother ordered the ribs, they were good but a bit, tough and dry. I ordered the beef brisket, a huge disappointment, it consisted of just four slices of thinly cut meat. I understand that the cost of food has gone up and the aftermath of Covid has really changed restaurant prices and quantity. But come on don't insult me by giving the bare minimum. For a small town BBQ joint you are charging Chicago prices with absolutely no extras.

The South Moon is a casual room packed with vintage and antique toys of all things. So many joints…read moredecorate their rooms with antique junk-it's a simple theme that almost always works. TOYS, as a theme catches your eye and your fancy, and provides a sense of comfort, really. If you're of a certain age, you HAD some of these pieces when you were a kid. I certainly did. But what links Toys, Bourbon and BBQ, I have no idea. Perhaps if you hit some fine pre-prandial herb it might make sense. I can remember that state of mind from my hippie days, and I think I may be on to something. The Q here is superb, at prices that will make you clean your glasses to make sure you saw it correctly. The perfectly-seasoned rib rack is HUGE (see photo below), with the right amount (and right flavor) of smoke. The pulled pork and brisket is the same quality. The sauces taste home-made and if you like it HOT, the ghost-pepper variety will not disappoint. Someone in this kitchen knows what they are doing. There are a few miscues (not enough to put me off my feed, but I report it all nonetheless): The Slaw is a little underseasoned. Hit it with some salt and it's great. The vaunted "spicy potato salad" isn't exactly a "must-have", I'd stick with the regular "mustard-style" tater-salad. There's a pulled Chicken which I haven't tried yet, but there isn't a bone-in BBQ chix option. I'll bet they'd knock it out of the park if there was one. And then there's the bar. A heroic variety of Bourbons, and the guy who curates the collection (I think his name is Phil) really knows his stuff inside and out, even if he looks more like a farmhand than a Bourbon Sommelier. They also have a smashing selection of Irish Whiskies. Note Bene: Make sure you have a designated driver. Trust me. In and amongst the toys, all this great booze is offered for sale. They also have a variety of THC-infused beverages on the menu. With this excellent Q, the mind boggles. Plus...toys. As far as Circuses, the service is homey and efficient, with sports on the TV, and picnic tables as a seating choice. A fine feed indeed, and it doesn't do that bad of damage to your pocketbook. We've always wanted to find a place that was in the same league as the Q joints found in the South, and I think we hit on a winner here. Worth the drive, that's for sure. Epilogue: Here's the wicked pissah: For a while, South Moon was open not more than a mile from Stately Breakwind Manor, here in the far southwest Chicago Burbs; in a building that until recently never had a winner in it. We didn't go 'cos we didn't like the building (idiots,we). If you take a look through Yelp for this region most every Q stop is compared to South Moon-believe them.
