Little mom and pop BBQ restaurant here in Dwight. Grabbed a to-go order to try them out for the first time! Talked with - I believe one of the owners - she said it was just her and her husband running the place. The restaurant was quiet with just us and one other couple inside on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered two brisket sandwiches and an order of pulled pork nachos. The food was good, brisket was a little dry, but no real complaints. They had 3 sauce options you could put into to-go containers yourself to try out, we opted for the southern comfort I believe and it was good BBQ! Also a nice touch I saw is they sold farm fresh eggs. My only two critiques would be phone etiquette and inventorying expired product. We called ahead of time to make sure the restaurant was open with it being a holiday weekend. Once the phone was answered on the other end, it was silent for about 30 seconds then we were given just a "Hello?". We had to confirm we were calling Cherry Red Roasters instead of calling someone's personal phone. We were given sour cream I believe in a packet to go with our nachos, but the expiry date on the packet was 5/13/2025 when the date we dinned was 5/25/2025. read more

After seeing a giant sign on the side of a barn I felt i needed to check this place out. It's in downtown Dwight. The downtown is small and I almost passed this place. I was the only customer and wasn't even sure they were open. This was 3:30 on the Sunday after thanksgiving. The owner was there and took my order. I had 6 oz of sliced brisket and 6oz of smoked pork sausage. The sausage was delicious. I was actually sad when I had finished it all because o wanted more. The brisket was very tender and juicy, but it needed some sauce. Since I got my order to go I tried some of their sauces and settled on the cherry bomb. This isn't food you can eat while driving, but it's worth the stop. When I think of the line of cars at the Dairy Queen I think those people are really missing out. For 2 minutes further they could have had a great meal. I will be going back to try the sides. FYI the place was clean and somewhat charming. A real pleasure. read more

Customer in front of me complained about their food. I should've taken that as my opportunity to leave. The owner is a complete clown. Instead of cracking jokes, he should address the paying customer's concern. Not get all butt hurt, cause he didn't like their input. Flies and gnats everywhere. The only joke was the current state of the restaurant. The prep area looks like a crime scene. Every table was dirty. All the barbecue sauces were empty and he recommended taking it from another group's table. How about you just pull one of the 15 sauces off the shelf that you have sitting there and stock your restaurant up? The food was edible. We went with another couple, so 4 of us. We had the ultimate platter. It was very reasonably priced. There was plenty of food: 5 meats and a choice of 2 sides, plus 4 slider buns. The food was EXCELLENT!!!! The owner created 6 barbecue sauces that he has bottled for sale. The decor was what you'd expect for a bbq place, picnic tables. We chatted with the owners, Duncan and Sue, they are warm, wonderful people. They are not located in the center of town, but definitely worth seeking them out. read more

The hubby is staying at a hotel in town because it's close to work. Anyhow, we stopped here for dinner. I had the chicken and rib platter but they were out of ribs so I was offered brisket as a substitute. My sided were garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower salad. The meat was prepared perfectly. The mashed potatoes were very flavorful. The salad was bland. No flavor, raisins, sunflower seeds, bacon bits or anything. The restaurant small and cold. Cute with decor but not comfortable with seating. Only counter service. He was pleasant and did the best he could. The prices were very reasonable. Took a motorcycle ride here from Indiana. The set up is really cool. Open air bar in the center connected by a BBQ place and on the other side a bar/concert/ hall rental. Food was good. The bbq is the main money maker. I don't think it has any seasoning but the homemade bbq sauces make up for it when applied. The have fried green tomatoes. We visited on probably one of their busiest days of the year- Bassett waddle weekend. The beer garden was hopping with live music and cold beer. The BBQ was good. I tried the ribs, pulled pork and brisket. My wife had the brisket sandwich that was piled high. Lots of sauces to choose from. The owner and staff were busy but still friendly. Food is decent. A bit pricey for what you get. They adjust the prices to how the market is going. So it's higher because meat is higher priced right now. Corns muffins are good, but they are puny. This started as a customer service review. $5 charge per dog to let the dog sit on the patio. I get that dogs aren't often allowed on patios for sanitary purposes. None of the workers wear masks. Ive been there twice and each time, there are no masks. The bbq sauces are in large pumps and you disperse your own into a little cup, so who knows how many people have touched the pump or little cups. And it looked dirty. Delicious BBQ! When you walk in, the smoker is right behind the counter and the smell is to die for...and it tastes even better!! I got the half chicken, which was recommended. For my sides I chose the slaw and apples, but through a confusion they gave me the beans. Both were very good. As for the chicken: AMAZING! Tender, succulent, delicious! Often, chicken is over-smoked and all you can taste is smoke. This had a nice balance of smoke and juiciness. Even without the sauces (which are very good) the chicken stands on it's own very well. So glad we came in! They were slacking on staff but that's to be expected as of lately, so I felt bad for the guy behind the counter working his butt off-but he kept up great. Bartender was missing a lot because of this, but no big deal. Everything was super good without being overly smoky as some bbq can be. Husband loved the brisket. The bbq sauces were really good, wish they had one spicy option. The sides were just okay. Stiff mashed potatoes but had good flavor, broccoli cauliflower salad was pretty much veggies in mayo-not much flavor and hard to eat since it was in such big chunks. I'd try the pasta salad next time. Kids options were great which is always a relief. They loved the cinnamon apples and Hawaiian salad. Nachos were super yummy and huge. Stopped in here on a Friday around 11:30. Parking - no problem. Ambiance, was exactly as you would hope, farmhouse and cozy. Ordered the pulled pork combo- comes with 2 sides and a drink. Paid $8 +tax. Got it to go as we were on a deadline to Chicago. In and out in less than 10 minutes. Tasty meat, bbq sauce on the side, was also really good. Lots of sides to choose from. My Hawaiian salad was good and potato salad ok. I would definitely eat here again and try their other sides. read more

Food was decent. Nothing spectacular, but decent nonetheless. Have been here several times since I work in the area. I don't go too often, because, in my opinion, it's somewhat expensive as a lunch option considering the amount of food you get. However, on a recent visit, I would say that this place needs to be cleaned. They used to have squeeze bottles of sauce on the tables, but recently (within the past few months) they switched to putting out glass, screw-top bottles. These are the same ones they sell in store, so probably a cost saving measure (??), but the set on my table was disgusting!! Think about eating ribs with your hands, then reaching for the sauce bottles with greasy hands, then dripping sauce down the sides, then once done, just loading all the greasy, sticky bottle in the holder for the next guy, etc, etc... that's what they were like. All the lids were greasy and all the bottles were a combination of greasy and sticky with old dripped sauce, etc. I guess it's fine if you want to the "glass bottle" route, but then you need to wipe down the bottles FREQUENTLY. Can't imagine that would be very popular when a health inspector would come through. I went for lunch and the edge of the table I sat at was sticky/tacky. Then, when I left, I noticed I had a stain on my shirt that was a straight line and the brownish color of BBQ where it had touched the edge of the table -- ok, that's gross and tells me they aren't wiping tables down very well between uses or even at the end of the day (I was there pretty early and doubt anyone had been at that table before me that day). So, the ribs were decent -- I've had better, and I've had worse, but think hard before dining-in unless they are going to actually clean this place up a bit. read more

Very good BBQ on the St. Louis to CHicago run. Just ten minutes off 55, lots of parking, and darn good, filling food. Looks like they have a hopping business in their outdoor area and a garage converted to a special events space. Not a fan of the food. I wouldn't go back there to eat, I'd eat before left home. They are rated really high on yelp and facebook so we came here to celebrate a birthday and watch the Bears game on TV. The good: The service was excellent, the bartender was very attentive. The guy at the food counter was excellent too, very nice. There was plenty of parking around, they have a very small lot but there is a lot of street parking, however there was hardly anyone in the bar on this Sunday early afternoon. The place was clean from the bar to the restaurant and the bathroom. The bad: bar - part of the bar was chilly, but in their defense half the place is outdoors and it's so large I have to think that they only run the heater where people are - not that it's acceptable but it is what it is. The bad: food - I got the pulled pork, and it was quite flavorless actually. I could see that it was BBQ'd because they gave me some of the end piece but it really tasted like it was boiled. I got the "garlic" mashed potatoes - garlic in quotes because there was absolutely no garlic taste to them at all. They seemed like they were mashed fresh from actual potatoes though. I got the cucumber salad, which was weak. The cucumbers were fine but they were drowning in what I can only assume was an Italian dressing because it looked and tasted like one you would buy at the grocery store. I didn't eat most of the meal, even though I really tried several times, because I hate wasting food. To top it all off there was a selection of 6 "differently labelled" BBQ sauces to choose from and I tried each one. I could barely tell them apart, they all tasted like a sweet Tennessee style sauce - which is fine but not when you are given 6 differently labelled containers and expecting to have 6 actual choices. So in summary, I'd go there again to hang out with friends, but I wouldn't give them a second chance for food unless they made some kind of change. read more

I've ordered food from here before for large groups, but had never been before. I LOVED what I found. Super divy with a local bbq joint feel. Clean but simple atmosphere. There was full sized briskets behind the counter that were sliced off as people walked up to the counter. The menu was great. Full of options. It's definately a MUST if you are going through Dwight. Great for large groups with a huge outdoor beer garden and a big open area for large groups. read more
