They make it really easy to fully customize your sandwich, which I appreciate, and they use high-quality Boar's Head meats--you can definitely taste the difference. My wife got the Italian which is her staple lunch selection. She really enjoyed her sandwich and a 1/2 was plenty for her. Portion-wise, it was perfect for me. I'm not someone who needs huge servings, and the sandwich was just the right size--honestly, it worked well as a half sandwich for lunch across two days. Well, it looks like the new owners changed the whole system around before you used to get two deli meats and two cheeses at a foot-long submarine bread but now the new owners took over and you only get one deli meat, one cheese, a smaller submarine bread and they jacked up the prices to almost $15 a sandwich. I ordered the Big New Yorker which was supposed to be corned beef and pastrami. When I get home, 40 minutes away, I got an NYC Special which is roast beef and turkey. They had it marked correctly on their order checklist but made the wrong sandwich. The toppings on it obviously were for the wrong sandwich too, which made it less appetizing. My wife went in around lunch time to pick up lunch. She let me know it's a really cute inside spot with an area to sit and eat. We got the Super Ham Delight and everything and a side of potato salad. Amazing. Tasty. It was packed, cut and presented beautifully. I have had plenty of deli sandwiches from NYC and this was comparable, especially in the middle of Illinois. It was warm when it got to me, the meat is stuffed and piled, pickle crisp! I loved the way they wrapped it up and cut it perfectly. My wife had the pastrami on a roll and it was so flavorful and perfect. She had just cheese and a pickle and it was a great lunch. The potato salad is SO good, it doesn't have a ton of flair, it is thin hand cut potatoes with dressing, and honestly it doesn't need anything else. I needed to stop for gas and I missed lunch so I jumped on Yelp to see what's around and NYC deli showed up, it's probably a chain that I have never seen but I'm going over because what if it's not and I don't know. The place is next to a gas station in a small strip mall that is so easy to miss. Well if it is a chain it's done very well with real deli cases, stainless slicer and they only serve Boars Head meat and cheeses, no Subway fake meat here. Right off the bat I liked the quality meats and cheeses from one company so now I'm thinking this might not be a chain and it's not, it's the only one they tell me. Some reviews say you can buy the meats in the store and make your own but that's just not true because by the time you buy the breads, cheeses, meats, condiments etc the sandwich would be $20 when you are done, no one buys carl budding garbage meats to make subway at home. The place has a small seating area with small tables and chairs and at 2 ish pm it was full. They did a great job at recreating an old school deli with two slanted cold cases displaying the meats, pickles, sides, cheeses and good looking sweet treats. I like the menu because it has dedicated sandwiches or a list of the meats and cheeses to create your own. After you choice the basic sandwich i.e. meats you have total control over the out come, size, hot or cold, cheese, breads, toppings and spreads so if you don't like what you got it's your fault. The options are endless so you could eat here once a week for a year and never have the same sandwich. Everything sounded good but I settled on the Big New Yorker not knowing that I had to build it so I had the white roll, pastrami, corn beef, Swiss, mayo, red onion, lettuce, tomato, thick pickles served cold style. There is some kind of tasty crack like sprinkle that finishes off the sandwich that's just completes the sandwich. My first bit was like wow this is pretty good, nice quality meats, soft fresh roll, fresh toppings, pickles more like cucumbers so not over powering and secret seasoning just playing well together. My first thought was this is reminding me of the picnic basket in Wauwatosa Wi which serves top quality sandwiches that no chain can touch. Overall this place is doing sandwiches to a higher degree than any chain so if your in the area or fortunate live in the area stop by and get one. I knew it was too good to be a chain after my first tasting and I will probably never be in the area again to get another one, what a dam shame because they make a point of putting out great product and it shows. read more

A really good little sandwich place that's incredibly easy to miss because of its small, out of the way location. Prices may be *just* a hair shy of reaching Subway standards but the taste is unbelievably satisfying and the location is cozy, not to mention never too busy.
