This is a vibrant community, and it was fun going around from place to place. The restaurants ranged from very good to outstanding. Our guide, Nick, was knowledgeable and friendly. This was an outstanding experience, fun and interesting. We started with a board of local products at the Lakely, then on to sample coffee (and other) drinks at Northbound Supply. The Informalist served a pork-belly on toast that was incredible, a very tasty, gourmet-level dish. Then over to The Rev for a wine tasting. Houligans gave us some steak tips, and we ended up at Ramone's for some very tasty ice cream.

I had a late arrival flight, when I got to the desk to rent my car that I had booked a couple weeks…read morein advance, they informed me they could not rent to me because I was on the do not rent list. I was told, nothing I can do, I can't give you a car because it looks like something is in collections and you aren't current on your payments. I asked if it was this facility or in all the U.S., I was told nationwide. I was provided a phone number to call, along with a reservation number that pit me on the do not rent list and told, you aren't getting it resolved tonight, you will need to find a different way around. I informed the guy that I thought that was weird, and asked if he was sure because three days prior I had just rented in a different location, and a month prior to that as well with no issues. I was told, everything matches your license to the T. I can't help you. Next morning I called the number he gave, and they informed me that I was NOT on the list, and that the reservation I was provided also was not tied to my name and I should have been able to pick up the car. I called the local rental place and informed them what corporate said and I was asked to come in to see what they could do (mind you, I had no car yet). I ended up renting a vehicle at a different rental agency, away from the airport. When I arrived and spoke with the lady, she looked and said, I don't see you on the do not rent list. I think the guy last night looked at the system wrong, ir Was an honest mistake. Honest mistake it may have been, but a few things here: 1. I'd like to point out that the guy was not "nice" or "quiet" about it either. others standing around could hear everything, and everyone was staring at me. Quite embarrassing when I wasn't in the mist in the first place. 2. I was offered no advice to get to my location at 1:00a.m. 3. He did not slow down or take a second look at the screen to see if he made an error. 4. He did not show or inform me as to why I was on the list, even though I just got down renting a car 3 days prior. 5. Next day, when it was confirmed I was not on the list, I was not provided anything for my troubles. Nothing for having to wait at an hour at the airport waiting for a taxi to come get me and paying more money out of my pocket for the taxi, nothing for my time I had to spend trying to figure out why I was on the do not rent list, which I wasn't on it. nothing for having to pay another taxi to go to a different rental agency to get a car to go back to Avis and talk with them. 6. Since I was forced to not rent at Avis, I had to cancel my reservation that occurs cancellation fees if not done in a reasonable time. 7. I then had to send an email off to customer service to make sure they won't charge me fees, more time stolen from me. I have yet to see if I will be charged for a car i had to cancel because they refused to rent to me. I would never rent from Avis if it were up to me. However, because it's a business trip, I am forced to use them. Now I have a different dilemma in which I have to retain all objective evidence to file a claim through my company so I can get reimbursed for the car I did get. This isn't the first time I've had issues :-(

So I called the local Avis office and she was a pleasure to deal with. She said she would check it out or just get me in a new car. I got to the location, she was very pleasant and got me in a new car (with an upgrade) easy peasy. If I lived in Eai Claire and had a need for a rental, I would definitely use them again.

My wife, kids, and me stayed here for two nights in Room 1 just this past weekend for a family…read morereunion. My mom, sister, and niece also stayed at the motel in Room 4. The location is on the north side of the Bloomer and it is across the street from a gas station/convenience store that is well stocked with items. The store even had distilled water that I forgot at home for my BiPap. Our room was clean and basic with a desk, small fridge, air conditioning, flatscreen with cable, and free WiFi which came in handy with my kids' iPads. The room was quiet and I never once heard any sounds from the occupied room next to us or sounds of people coming and going outside of our room. If I had to name one negative, it would be that the bathrooms' only had shower stalls and no bath tub. This was not an issue for my wife and me, but it made showering my two toddlers a bit of a challenge. However, we quickly adapted and it wasn't a problem. Over the years, I've stayed at many motels/hotels and to be honest, this is one of my favorites. This is not your Holiday or Ramada Inn. If your looking for something like that then this may not be a place for you. However, if you want a clean and cozy place to get a good nights rest that will not break the bank, then this is the place. I always saw the owner each morning working at the motel. He always said hello and each time had a smile on his face, which shows me that he takes pride in his business. The fact that their neon sign said "no vacancies" on both Friday and Saturday night says it all. If I am able to come up this way next year, this is where I want to stay.
