I called ahead & let the receptionist know I had a service dog & there didn't seem to be an issue. My husband went to get our keys as I took my dog for a walk. When he came back out, he informed me that we would be allowed to have our dog, but I couldn't take her thru the lobby. Which is why I gave service a 1 star. I've never ever heard of such a rule.

I had a late arrival flight, when I got to the desk to rent my car that I had booked a couple weeks…read morein advance, they informed me they could not rent to me because I was on the do not rent list. I was told, nothing I can do, I can't give you a car because it looks like something is in collections and you aren't current on your payments. I asked if it was this facility or in all the U.S., I was told nationwide. I was provided a phone number to call, along with a reservation number that pit me on the do not rent list and told, you aren't getting it resolved tonight, you will need to find a different way around. I informed the guy that I thought that was weird, and asked if he was sure because three days prior I had just rented in a different location, and a month prior to that as well with no issues. I was told, everything matches your license to the T. I can't help you. Next morning I called the number he gave, and they informed me that I was NOT on the list, and that the reservation I was provided also was not tied to my name and I should have been able to pick up the car. I called the local rental place and informed them what corporate said and I was asked to come in to see what they could do (mind you, I had no car yet). I ended up renting a vehicle at a different rental agency, away from the airport. When I arrived and spoke with the lady, she looked and said, I don't see you on the do not rent list. I think the guy last night looked at the system wrong, ir Was an honest mistake. Honest mistake it may have been, but a few things here: 1. I'd like to point out that the guy was not "nice" or "quiet" about it either. others standing around could hear everything, and everyone was staring at me. Quite embarrassing when I wasn't in the mist in the first place. 2. I was offered no advice to get to my location at 1:00a.m. 3. He did not slow down or take a second look at the screen to see if he made an error. 4. He did not show or inform me as to why I was on the list, even though I just got down renting a car 3 days prior. 5. Next day, when it was confirmed I was not on the list, I was not provided anything for my troubles. Nothing for having to wait at an hour at the airport waiting for a taxi to come get me and paying more money out of my pocket for the taxi, nothing for my time I had to spend trying to figure out why I was on the do not rent list, which I wasn't on it. nothing for having to pay another taxi to go to a different rental agency to get a car to go back to Avis and talk with them. 6. Since I was forced to not rent at Avis, I had to cancel my reservation that occurs cancellation fees if not done in a reasonable time. 7. I then had to send an email off to customer service to make sure they won't charge me fees, more time stolen from me. I have yet to see if I will be charged for a car i had to cancel because they refused to rent to me. I would never rent from Avis if it were up to me. However, because it's a business trip, I am forced to use them. Now I have a different dilemma in which I have to retain all objective evidence to file a claim through my company so I can get reimbursed for the car I did get. This isn't the first time I've had issues :-(

So I called the local Avis office and she was a pleasure to deal with. She said she would check it out or just get me in a new car. I got to the location, she was very pleasant and got me in a new car (with an upgrade) easy peasy. If I lived in Eai Claire and had a need for a rental, I would definitely use them again.

Thorp is the quintessential small town (pop. 1621). The Heritage Court is the sort of…read morejust-off-the-highway motel you were amazingly lucky to happen upon in the days before Motel 6 and Super 8. The family who run the place are friendly and eager to make your stay a pleasant one. This is one reason I give four stars for a property which otherwise would rate three. The rooms have cable TV (basic: CNN and TBS, but no premium channels), and a ceiling fan. There is central heat, but no air-conditioning that I could see. My bathroom had a shower stall but no tub. Towels about like Motel 6, except in addition to the normal white ones, I found a burgundy colored washcloth and face towel. A sign in the bathroom read: "Burgundy Towels for -Cosmetic removal -Extra soil. Thank you." Standard motel soaps; no shampoo. My room was small, with a double bed and a twin daybed. I had enough room, and a couple would do OK. I can't quite see it working for three unless they take turns stepping out or relaxing in bed while others move about. My room was not wheelchair accessible: this is an older property (likely pre-ADA grandfathered). On balance, I felt that the price I paid was a good value for what I got. The essentials covered, here is what wins the fourth star: As I said, the innkeepers are friendly and welcoming. They've taken some time and thought to create a cheerful décor that goes a long way toward making a small room feel cozy rather than cramped. They'll give you good advice on where to eat and where to find things. The office is in a beautiful historic 1891 Victorian house (the rest of which is the family's home). While many roadside inns provide chintzy please-give-us-free-advertising postcards, in my room at the Heritage Court I found postcards with beautiful pen-and-ink renderings of the motel and the historic house. Classy. If you need basic, reasonably-priced accommodation that is a bit friendlier and has more personality than a national chain, the Heritage Court Motel of Thorp is the place to stay.

The room was very clean (a little out of date), very PINK but had a mini fridge and microwave. I picked an apple from the apple tree and gave it to a passing Amish families horse!! So cute.
