After reading the negative reviews I'm going to flip the coin and share a few excellent experiences. In late 2015 we hired AL landscaping to build a terraced stone wall in our backyard. They did an excellent job. In 2016 they built a beautiful stone patio under our deck. This was a very challenging project for them as we had a lot of drainage issues they had to resolve first. The communication and responsiveness to our concerns were first class. Phone calls and emails were returned in a timely matter. They showed up on schedule, kept us informed and kept the work site clean. We get rave reviews from everyone who sees the patio. In 2017 we hired them to make a stone path along the side of our house to the patio in matching stone. It was a small project that they finished in a couple of days. Wish we would have looked at reviews before hiring AL! Local business near us, they did our back dole neighbors new house landscape, so didn't check them out.....what a mistake!! BIGGEST waste of money ever! They actually made things WAyY worse than before-not only is our ground just as bad with the uneven/bumpy soil, now we have weed patched where there were none before!! Actually criminal in taking people's money, and then basically vandalizing their yard. Do not recommend them! read more

As far as I am concerned AL Landscaping is the best! I have literally been going back to them to have work done for years. I had them tear out my deck and put a beautiful patio in. That went well so another year they did my walk and steps in the front yard. Another beautiful job! I referred them to a friend of mine who had a patio put in and she was very happy. They have done various plantings and are such a great company to work with. Chuck has great ideas, lots of tips and explains everything. The AL Team is respectful and hardworking. After signing a contract in April, we were told each month that they would be out the next month. That was, of course, when we would actually get a response. We are now cancelling our job and getting our deposit back after again not getting responses for the last two weeks. Some of the worst communication we've ever received from a company, especially for such an expensive project. read more

Last fall I worked with Chuck Langfeldt with A.L. Landscaping to solve a problem with a crumbling retaining wall around my deck. In working with Chuck he pointed out that it was lack of proper drainage around and under my deck that was causing the problem, an issue I had not considered. Also, as there is a substantial slope leading to the lawn from the area around my deck, I was interested in having steps installed to mitigate that issue as well. Although I was having problems envisioning the final result of the design, I trusted Chuck and I am completely thrilled with the results. I also cannot say enough good things about Derek and his crew in implementing the design and completing the project. I would give them the highest rating. read more

They did a small job at our condo and the Bobcat did some minor damage to the roadway. When asked about it, Mr. Ronne said that was a risk with Bobcats (he had not mentioned this in advance) and that he would do nothing about repairs. In Fall 2012, A L Landscaping quoted and completed nearly $3K in work for us. Because we were pleased with the job they'd done, we agreed to another $3700 in landscaping work the following year. A L promised that any new plant that hadn't survived through the following spring would be replaced without additional cost. We prepaid A L in late April 2014 to trim our birch tree. We also let Dave P know that a few of the previous year's planting would need to be replaced, and that a few others hadn't yet made their appearance. During May, June and July, several calls were made to A L inquiring about the replacements and when our tree would be trimmed. Because those calls went unanswered, we visited their office on July 24, explained our situation to the receptionist and asked that the work either be completed or that our prepayment for tree trimming be refunded. Before we left A L's premises, Dave P called in and told the receptionist that he'd stop by our home later that day, (a Thursday). When he arrived, he took an inventory of the replacements that were needed. We expressed concern that it might be too late in the summer to plant replacements. But he assured us that A L kept all of them in stock, and that his staff would be back to take care of the re-planting and tree trimming within the next two days. There was no subsequent phone call from A L to let us know that they wouldn't make it until the following week. Unlike the tree trimming they'd done in 2013, we arrived home from work one day to find that all of the trimmings had been left in a large pile on the lawn. The pile had to be re-located by hand to avoid killing the grass. Despite a final email to Dave P in September 2014 about the replacements, we've not heard further from him since then. There are at least a few other on-line reviews for A L that describe experiences similar to ours. Given A L Landscaping's demonstrated lack of professionalism and customer service, we don't understand why there aren't more. I have been trying to get them to plant the tree. That I won on their Madison Bids Auction. For over a month now. No tree. No call. No response. They said they would be out by this Friday and have the tree in. 6/26/2015. Guess what. No call. No tree. No response. I wonder how they can manage to keep a large customer when they don't even respect a small customer. Stay away. RUN Away if you can. I will change this if something makes it right. read more

I am very disappointed in the work done by A.L. Ltd. Landscaping. They came with a high recommendation from a fried who had used them for years so they must be doing something right. This was not our experience. We had 2 major problems: scheduling of the project and lack of communication with them. My salesman was horrible about returning phone calls, which made scheduling and fixing a few problems a very frustrating experience. When we signed the contract (about $7000) in May, the work was not done till November, 6 months later! As it got later in the season and I was calling to get a firm install date, I told them I was flexible, but not for one week in November when we would be out of town. They finally squeezed in my project in mid November when we were out of town and right before some freezing weather. Did the grass grow-no. Did the rock wall plantings live- only the ones that I replanted to cover the roots before winter. By the following spring there was 6 " of settling in the backfilled area of the rock wall that was catching water and that also sunk 3 fence posts with it.. They said they would come level the ground and raise the fence post. After many calls, emails and a call in to the owner that was not returned, we paid another company ($1000) to do the needed repairs. I realize that problems are common in construction and they can usually be fixed, but lack of communication is unforgivable in this day and age.. read more
