I have to share my experience with Jennifer at "A Lucky Dog". We left our 11 week old Siberian husky with Jennifer while we traveled to the east coast for 5 weeks. She trained and boarded Annie. We've had her back for a week now and I'm IMPRESSED. Annie comes to us when we call her name. She sits, stays and walks right along side you when we walk on the street. Other dogs walk by us and bark, Annie doesn't bark back but instead sits and watches them walk by. She won't jump on us, and when she goes inside her crate to sleep she lays right down without any attitude. One big plus, she no longer chews on the water sprinklers. If she starts to eat something such as a snail, I saw enough and she drops it.(Its like MAGIC). I can't wait to take her to the new dog park to see how well her behavior is around other dogs. It shouldn't be an issue because "A Lucky Dog" had her around other dogs, every day. Jennifer and her husband are knowledgable and have a passion for "A Lucky Dog". Jennifer's husband carried the crate, food, toys out of my truck and loaded my truck when I returned. What a gentleman! Jennifer has high energy, great attitude, and she explains things very well. My dog sitter backed out on me last minute before a 5 day trip and I was desperately searching for places to bring our 2 year old lab. In my search , I came across A Lucky Dog. We had already found a place for our dog, but in talking with Pat, I just got a good feeling...it didn't hurt that they are less than 2 miles from my house as well. This place is amazing. Dogs are never kenneled, unless requested by the owner. There are 7 acres of land that dogs who are good off leash can roam around. They have a fenced in tennis court where dogs can also play and the dogs have a high fenced dog run area that leads into a large 4 car garage for them to relax in. Pat is wonderful. He really cares about the dogs and when they are there, it's not like they are in a kennel. They are in a home and are treated like that. When the owners are out at the pool some of the dogs can just hang out by the pool with them. They just get to hang out. Plus, he texted me pictures of our dog while we were out of town. It was so fun to see him in action. When we picked up Einstein he was so happy. He wasn't upset or fazed at all and he slept like a baby the whole next day! Since our trip, Einstein has been back for doggy daycare and he comes home so happy and exhausted. We love A Lucky Dog! read more

A Lucky Dog is such a fantastic place. We boarded our two dogs here for our wedding night. The mansion has a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a dog run, all of which are available to the dogs. The dogs are free to roam throughout the day and night, and they aren't placed in kennels like at other dog boarding places. Plus, they had a small discount for 2 dogs, which is always helpful. And they only take 6-8 dogs at a time, so they won't get too overwhelmed and will have the time to take care of each dog when needed. Jennifer is the best trainer you could possibly hope for, hands down. When we were looking for training classes for our new puppy, Jennifer was highly recommended. When we reached out to her, she replied almost right away, and we were able to talk a bit about our dog weeks before the class had even begun, putting us right at ease. She tailored her Smart Dog Saturday class to our individual needs, and gave us all the training and encouragement we needed to help our little puppy along. This is not a review for the dog sitting service, but rather for the customer service my wife received when she called the business for more info. The lady who called her back was very unprofessional. All my wife wanted was some more info since we had specific needs in a doggy daycare. She didn't ask any questions that were out of the ordinary. But the lady repeatedly accused my wife of being a solicitor, said she got a weird "vibe" from her, and even directly asked "what company do you work for?". So we decided not to go with this daycare, out of concerns for customer service. 1/30 But it doesn't stop there. When we decided to post this review on Yelp, the owner responded to it with my wife's full name and phone number!! It is absolutely not ok to post information like that. When I tried to contact the owner, the response I got was basically this: if you want it to go away, just take down your review. What?? You are going to threaten to leave my wife's personal info up there unless I remove the unfavorable review? We've followed up with Yelp, since the owner's comments clearly violate their content guidelines. Hopefully Yelp will resolve that soon. Again, we can't comment on the services this company provides, but if you do decide to go with them, just be very careful. The customer service we got was unprofessional and bordered on illegally sharing personal information. This business certainly does not seem to look out for the best interests of new customers. read more

We are SO HAPPY to have found A Lucky Dog!! We have a 2 yr old male Akita, Koa, that has been through training, knows basic behaviors/commands and is overall a pretty mild tempered dog. Many establishments aren't familiar with this breed and therefore are often on guard when we bring him around (which is understandable). Jennifer, on the other hand, has had experience with Akitas and gave our big, sweet boy a chance and he did FANTASTIC with her pack!! He played well with dogs of large and medium sizes and of both sexes! We cannot thank her enough for integrating him and knowing what to look for. Her property is huge, allowing the dogs to run and play and just be dogs. It is obvious that she loves alls her animals. Jennifer is very down to earth and her prices are very reasonable. My Queensland heeler has been going to Jennifer at A Lucky Dog for over a year now. He started when he was not quite a year old and had been kicked out what I would call a "box" daycare. You know the kind...inside a room most of the day and then outside on gravel or cement for a while. I found out about Jennifer by seeing her at a feed store in her company car. I brought my pup there the next week. She has been amazing! She lives on 5 acres where the dogs get to run and play all day. She keeps a close watch on each of them and also helps train them while they are there. Her prices are very reasonable and I have received nothing but amazing customer service!! We boarded our dog here for several days this past week (the 3rd time we've been - each time we leave, we feel more and more uncertain about the care). When our dog returned, he was thirsty beyond belief, filthy (poop literally hanging from his tail and back feathers), and excreting the most horrendous odor. He also had a big scab on his muzzle. I called the day after I picked up our dog to gather some information about the care at the facility. I started the conversation by just inquiring on the kind of supervision the dogs receive. Jennifer was immediately contentious and extremely defensive. She avoided giving me straight answers about how the dogs were supervised. She first wanted to know what exactly happened for me to accuse her of not properly supervising my dog. When I told her what we observed upon his return home, she had various excuses, none of which convinced me that our dog was well cared for and loved. Jennifer was very unprofessional in the manner in which she communicated with me. I do not recommend the Lucky Dog for boarding. I will not be returning in the future. read more

I came across A Lucky Dog as I researched puppy training classes for our English Bulldog pup, and saw that they were holding an upcoming class at Blackhawk Petfood Express. The class wasn't starting for a few weeks so Jennifer suggested that she come by and do a 1 hour in-home introductory consult and training session. Hands down the best $60 I've ever spent. Jennifer not only gave us some basic tools for starting the behavioral and potty training process, she also helped us configure our in-home set up with our pup to ensure that our needs and our space were working harmoniously together. She had us get rid of our elaborate "open-crate surrounded by a large pen with puppy pads" set up and simplified it down to a crate with rules and limitations on where the puppy could be and how we were to interact with him. That night, our pup slept through the night in his closed crate for the first time ever and did so for the next 2 weeks! It was truly life changing. She gave us the ability to forge ahead with our new found knowledge and confidence. Since that time, as we've come across various bumps, Jennifer has always given us sage advice that has helped to get us back on track every time. I have also started to drop our pup off at their day care site as needed. The property is on a horse ranch with plenty of space to roam and play. All the dogs play together so quietly and nicely that you would never even guess that there are up to 8-10 dogs on the other side of the fence. It's truly amazing to see. It's a real testament to the love and attention they receive along with Jennifer's training background. Our pup loves spending the day with his pals and always comes home nice and tired and most importantly, happy. Other reviewers have mentioned the occasional scratches and scuffs. If you are looking for a place where your dog will be in an isolated crate by himself, this is not the place for you. At a Lucky Dog, your dog is going to play and socialize, and with that is going to come some amount of rough housing and play - and in that process, the occasional scratch. But if the dogs are supervised and aggressive behavior is not tolerated, there's no reason to be concerned. When I take my pup, his tail begins to wag as soon as he sees Jennifer and Walter, and that tells me everything I need to know! Truly grateful to have found A Lucky Dog! read more

We have never boarded or had dogs stay at a day care facility before. We now have a new dog, Buster. An English Mastiff mix. We have a family reunion coming up in July at a location that does not allow dogs and we have been searching for a kennel to board him for a little over a week. We were not thrilled with the places we visited. Small exercise area in most for such a large dog and the kennels looked depressing. I was told about A Lucky Dog while I was at a dog park so my wife and I decided to look into it. After visiting A Lucky Dog and speaking to Jennifer we are thrilled with this location. Buster was one happy dog after his first day care visit. Jennifer is a very caring dog handler and we will not have any worries about having him stay at A Lucky Dog. My husband and I would like to give a review for Jennifer Wilson from A Lucky Dog. My fiance at the time saw the cute little van with dogs driving around in our area and after seeing them on a regular basis in Danville, we decided to give them a call since we needed someone to come and take care of our 3 1/2 pound yorkie and a 11 pound Maltese/terrier mix while we were on our wedding/honeymoon.. We dealt with Jennifer who handles the Danville area and met with her a couple of times before our big event. We immediately knew when we met, that we would be in good hands since you can tell how much she loves dogs and is also a licensed professional dog trainer. A Lucky Dog offers different levels of care, but we needed someone to come twice a day (morning and night) to feed the dogs, give them walks, and also to pick up our mail, etc. Jennifer was wonderful and I never felt unsure about her. She responds quickly by text and loves to handle her communication that way, so she can keep tabs on all her clients. She sent pictures of the dogs while we were on our honeymoon and also kept us apprised of how they were doing. She is our dog sitter for life and we will be using her again for our next vacation! Updating my review to respond to the comment below: this is an accurate summary of our actual experience with A Lucky Dog. If Yelp has questions I will be happy to provide them with specific details and dates of the events described below. Agree with the prior reviewers regarding unprofessionalism and lack of supervision of the dogs. Beware! Our dog also returned home from "daycare" injured and bloody from another dog attacking ours, with bad damage to the ear from being bitten. As the prior reviewers said, when I asked about supervision and how this could have happened, Jennifer became extremely defensive and said the dogs were supervised at all times... which couldn't possibly have been true, as if it was, why didn't anyone try to separate the dogs before ours was badly bitten? She also said she had no idea it happened... but then said she knew which dog had caused the problem... so why would she keep that dog in the same daycare area with other dogs? Our impression was she was trying to collect as much money as possible, while releasing the dogs into an open pen without sufficient supervision or regard for consequences to the dogs. Additionally, if Jennifer had handled our situation with grace and an apology rather than extreme defensiveness and unprofessionalism, we'd still not have returned or recommended her, but I might not have taken the extra step of writing this review. Her handling of the situation and customer service was shocking and we realized we had chosen the wrong place. read more

We have boarded our 1 year old Labradoodle at A Lucky Dog twice in the last month. They are WONDERFUL! Pat and Erica care for the dogs and are so caring with our Rosie. Before boarding, Pat had me come down with Rosie so that he could meet her. He spent so much time with Rosie and me, really getting to know her and making sure she would feel comfortable and happy with the "regular daycare doggies". They have a large area where the dogs can roam outside and in a large garage area. They take the dogs out to a large tennis court to run them as well. Since Rosie is reliable off leash and will come back when called, they said they would let her run around the other areas as well. I will definitely use A Lucky Dog again and would highly recommend them. Our little Rosie seemed very happy and healthy when we picked her up. If you are looking for a no nonsense straight to the point and super effective puppy/dog trainer you need to go see Jennifer Wilson. Not only has she been amazing with our two very large (Rottweiler & Newfoundland) and very rambunctious puppies, she runs an amazing boarding and dog daycare facility. Jennifer's method of training is more about training the human in how to speak to your dog. Her instruction is very clear, easy to follow and believe me it works! She's been super accommodating to my changing schedule and truly and completely loves your dog and treats them as her own. Her boarding facility is top-notch with all the bells and whistle's and plenty of room for large breed and small breed dogs. Our puppies look so forward to going to Jennifers and they come home fully exhausted from all the play they have with the other dogs outside in a beautiful safe and fully fenced pasture. I have been taking my dog Beau, a Coton de Tulear, to A Lucky Dog for daycare for a year. Both Beau and I love Jennifer and Walter. They are true dog lovers and devoted to the care and training of dogs under their watchful eye. Beau always has fun when he spends the day at Lucky Dog. He comes home content and exhausted from playing all day. When my dog is happy, I am happy! Jennifer and Walter always greet Beau and I with a warm good morning.
