I was lucky enough to find Eric for our 110 person wedding in North Georgia. I am so, so happy that I did because Eric was THE most important person at the wedding (other than my groom of course!) Eric came to the wedding with his working shoes on - he was incredibly engaged and ahead of schedule the entire day. Instead of coming to me with questions as I was getting ready, he came to me with solutions and updated me on the process of his work. Not only did he act as our day-of-coordinator, he also acted as our florist last minute! I had put my mother in charge of arranging our DIY florals from Costco, and Eric immediately saw that the situation required a professional hand. He arranged everything in the most beautiful way, and we received compliments on the flowers and greenery all night. Working with Eric was by far the worst and most stressful part of our wedding experience. Far from alleviating our troubles and making our lives easier, it became apparent the more we worked with him that he didn't have a high level of attention to detail, dropped the ball on a number of things, and simply wasn't executing at close to a high level to help us "plan" our wedding. Eric only had a few key responsibilities: (a) day of coordination and (b) sourcing a handful of vendors (hair/ makeup, videographer, DJ, and florals) -- we planned everything else ourselves.  Despite this slim list of responsibilities, Eric was unreliable, not proactive, and unapologetic: 1. After taking our full deposit for the hair and make up stylist, Eric failed to follow through on the contract and never booked the stylist. We found this out two months later, right before our supposed trial appointment (for which we had to fly in out of state) when we reached out to the stylist directly and learned that Eric had never followed through on the booking. There was no apology and we were left scrambling to book the stylist ourselves. Thankfully, she was still available on our wedding day but we couldn't believe that Eric failed to book her after taking our deposit. 2. Eric failed to properly coordinate audio during the day of our wedding. First, he failed to tell the DJ to set up a speaker outside for our ceremony and, even worse, he failed to inform our videographer that a string quartet was to perform at our ceremony. Accordingly, our videographer did not bring any mics for the quartet and we have learned after the fact that none of the audio of their beautiful performance was captured.  Eric's response to this was to have us ask the quartet to re-record their entire performance -- which we found to be unhelpful and completely unacceptable. 3. Eric's idea of preparing vendors was to circulate a "day of" itinerary -- and little else. This left our photographers and string quartet emailing us for details in the lead up to the wedding. He also failed to provide us and our hotel with the names / contacts of the shuttle bus drivers for the wedding day, leaving us and all our guests in the dark about when transportation would arrive. Hiring Eric as our wedding planner is the largest and only regret we have during our entire wedding process. We hope other couples look elsewhere for their wedding planning and coordinating needs (or just plan it on your own). read more

If you are planning a wedding in Miami and the Florida Keys, the first call you must make is to Eric Baker at A Modern Romance. Being from Boston and trying to plan a destination wedding 1600 miles away in Key West was a bit more than my wife and I could handle. I was fortunate to have found Eric who not only returned my request for information on the same day, but got us excited about the new partnership we had forged to make our day (or week for that matter) so special. Eric is certainly "in the know" when it comes to the best of the best in South Florida and the Keys. You can research all you want but a simple call to Eric (or Facebook message as we STILL do two years later) will produce a list far superior than a Google search engine. For instance, we researched and set up meetings with florists, cake shops, and event flooring people prior to our "tasting" trip. Eric told us we had done a thorough job of research but then proceeded to send us to the BEST bakery for a cake, the florist my wife had dreamed about, and an event company that provided the best price for equipment. The cake in particular (Old Town Bakery) wasn't even on our list but is now our first stop each time back! Besides being "in the know", Eric has a level of creativity that is unmatched. We told him of what we were looking for and gave him the leeway to make it great. Paying for the whole wedding ourselves, Eric was able create a PERFECT week for us and our family and friends on a budget. In hindsight I wish I would have called Eric and said "Plan our wedding and tell me when to show up", that's how confident we are with his work. I think it's important to note that when you partner with Eric you not only have an amazing advocate for you with venues and vendors for your special event, but you also have an instant friend on the island. Eric Baker from A Modern Romance was amazing! Having a destination wedding, we wanted someone local who could provide us with assistance day of and also guidance through the planning process. We hired him for day of coordination services at our wedding however he went above and beyond from day one. From making recommendations for vendors, to answering any questions we had about planning and services, and helping to organize a brunch sail for the day after our wedding. His response time was always extremely fast, and as we got closer to the wedding he was in contact with us about every detail of our day. He saved us from hiring a certain DJ down there and made a recommendation for an amazing alternative. 2 days before our wedding we had an issue with our videographer, who bailed on us last minute. As soon as Eric found out about this he stepped into action, finding us someone the day before our ceremony. He was professional, courteous, and kind. Not sure that I could really fit all the amazing things I think about Eric Baker and team in a small paragraph, but here goes... He is remarkable and I will use and recommend his services for any event I host. Most people I interviewed with for day-of coordination wanted to charge me for a phone call, email, advice, etc. which I thought was crazy (I know some brides take advantage of this). Eric is a warm person who you will instantly connect with. His taste is impeccable and he needs VERY little direction on décor, because he is creative and a visionary. His recommendations on other vendors were on point- loved them all. The month-of he put together a great packet for all vendors, which was a relief as a bride, to know that it's all together and organized. The day-of he was extraordinary, I felt like I had someone handling every little thing for me so I could really enjoy my wedding. Eric did not even show up at my wedding. Really? He sent an assistant instead (who was very nice) but I did not pay for an assistant. He also never communicated with his assistant regarding shipping our clothes home after the wedding. So my groom and I were running around Key West (on a Sunday morning with a flight to catch in Miami) trying to figure out how to get them home.
