Everything went fine up until cremation. My husband and I arrived around 7:45 AM to ID the body. My mother chose a photo urn from the company. I told Tony that morning that I purchased something to hold some ashes also, and I wanted them to put a small amount aside for me. I told him to write it down so it would be done. He said he would tell the person doing the cremation. Today I was told his name is Lazaro. This past Saturday my mother went to pick up the ashes and she was only given the photo urn. My request for ashes for my necklace was not completed. I am deeply saddened by this issue because I thought I was going to have a piece of him to keep with me forever. My dad died in a span of five days. So far the only solution offered was bringing my mom's urn back. They mentioned it wasn't written in the contract. I bought the necklace after I decided to use the company. Also whether I bought the necklace before or after is irrelevant as the cremation had not taken place yet. I even inquired about a necklace purchase from Maspons. Maybe my request was not completed because I didn't buy it from them. Again, I asked Tony to notate it at 7:45 AM. How is the family supposed to move forward by making me come back to the funeral home and dealing with an past hurdle? I am a teacher and finally decided to come back to work because I thought I was past the next difficult thing and could remain composed for my students. Apparently not, because although my father died on October 11th, still is still no peace, not even for him. This is unacceptable.

Once I arrived in Fla we met in person in person and signed the documents and he very kindly explained the complex Fla process for a cremation. Everything went well and once he had all the legal clearances he kept me informed. Very kind regarding payment, he did not reuire payment until all the legal clearances were in place, so he put no pressure on my faily at all. Everything happened exactly as he told me from day one. One place quoted 5,000 more than Genesis because they had to "come from Miami" (to Ft. Lauderdale). I had to laugh at that one. Genesis is straight-forward, reasonable, and efficient. We didn't even have to go the the funeral home. Documents emailed to us, signed, emailed back. Paid by phone. DONE! I'm not a fan of the funeral industry, but I did not feel ripped off by Genesis. What an embarrassment that my uncle's burial paperwork was not completed nor paid to the cemetery. We had the church service nearby, hundreds made a procession through the rain to the cemetery, and to be turned back around because they didn't have a plot nor tomb ready for us. The cemetery didn't get paid by the funeral home and they wanted their money. We took everyone back to their office and had a VERY unprofessional conversation with the manager and owner(s). They expected us to pay again because someone in their office didn't document payment properly and didn't reserve a spot for my uncles body. Shouldn't someone have called or at least tell us at the church? It was pouring down rain and we had my parents along with many other elderly family members dangerously wading through water in their parking lot. Some had been sitting for hours and needed to use the restrooms and I ordered refreshments to hold us over (additional unexpected expenses). My father was the last living sibling of my uncle and all we wanted was to give my uncle a good farewell. Hours later we were able to get things worked out but it was not a pretty scene. I've complained with the BBB and governing bodies, however, people need to know what kind of business practices they're up against. It is frustrating that such a basic maintenance matter has been left unaddressed for so long. While temporary plastic pots are sometimes available, families should not have to keep asking for a short-term fix each time they visit. A cemetery should maintain burial sites with care, consistency, and respect.
