Wow. Was very excited to try this one. After seeing the reviews. First off, the mimosas were quit disappointing. We tried the "famous chicken". I'm not sure what it is famous for. It arrived nuclear hot. But not crispy. Seeing to be warmed by microwave. For chicken it was served super fast. Very friendly service. Locals who were seated after us were served before us. Roadtripping takes us a little everywhere. Sometimes you are off the beaten path, and sometimes you get a good place right in the road. In this case, we needed something easy to access since we had a trailer behind us. There is spacious parking. If you need more, there is a gas station right next to the restaurant. It's a homey diner. You walk in, and it's a casual, small-town feel. Greeted with a smile, we snagged a spot in the front dining area. There is a second diving area just beyond the hallway. It's not a huge place. It was still breakfast time. I went for the House Skillet. 2 eggs, hashbrowns filled with redpeppers, onions, and smoked sausage. I did ask for the hashbrowns to be extra crispy. It came with 2 pieces of toast. The hash browns were not crispy. They almost seemed undercooked. Luckily, the smoked sausage that was to come in the hashbrowns came just sliced. I pulled the meat and few peppers out and just ate them with the eggs and toast. Hubby got the smoked brisket skillet. He said it was good. It was almost like mine with the different meat. We both got our fill on the food. The service was great. Very attentive. They had a bunch of pies stacked at the counter for purchase. If you need something on the main road, this works just as easy as other things but support local. Visit the Paul Bunyan statue out front. The sign for the restaurant is obvious, so you can't miss it. I wanted to push it up to 4 stars, but maybe I needed a different meal to get there. read more

This is exactly what you hope for from a roadside diner. There was a bit of a wait on Sunday morning but it was worth it. Solid breakfast, super friendly service, and fair prices. We ordered a Minnesota Wild Rice Omelette, Eggs Benedict, and a stack of pancakes. Everything including the coffee was really good - my only regret was not leaving enough room for pie. Judging by the frequency that pie was being ordered by other customers (many taking whole pies to go) it looks like that's the thing. We always like A Pine for dinner or breakfast. It's a neat clean restaurant with good food and good servers. Typically their chicken is excellent. But our last visit was sketchy, small portion of chicken. Usually a chicken breast is full, this one was like a chicken tender size meat on bones. Wing was really small drummie size. Had a nice garden salad and potato. Waitress shrugged shoulders when answered her about chicken. Not sure if they're skimping , but $40 + tip seems like too much. This morning my friend and I went to get breakfast. Our service from April was terrible. We didn't wait too long for our food once our order was finally taken, almost 25 minutes to get a beverage. We were there for almost 2 hours while there were multiple open tables. We have been in there on much busier days with much better service. We came in with a group for lunch and the server greeted us quickly. Drinks took a while as a few people were missed in the first order but the food was ordered and came out quickly. I ordered a burger and it was delicious! My husband had the special which was chicken fried steak and he also commented that it was so good. So, once you get past the kinda fun interior decor (see pics), what does A-Pine offer? The biggest plus is Annie the server who handles every guest, regardless of age (and believe me, there is some age in this group of customers) with a great welcome, smile and follow ups to the table. Other than that my Maple Bacon Chicken sandwich which was, surprisingly, made with a pressed patty, was nothing special. The bacon was plopped on the sandwich in "rare" style (barely cooked and really greasy) and would prompt any cardiologist immediately order your new set of cholesterol/triglyceride tests. $3.49 soft drinks? Seems a bit "gougy" to me for this suburban Pequot Lakes location. Anyway, friendly service and a fun, "touristy" decor made a big impact on the experience and the average at best food. Great family restaurant. We stopped by after playing mini golf across the street. The meals are hearty and delicious (try the BBQ or Patty melt). The server was fantastic. She even remembered us when we came back a year later. Make sure you pick up a pie on your way out! The strawberry rhubarb was the best I've ever eaten. read more

Hubby and I ate dinner here while we were vacationing in the area. There are things that A-Pine does really well and some that could use a little improvement. The staff was awesome! Very friendly, efficient, just the right amount of attention without being disruptive. The restaurant was also very home-y and extremely clean, including the restrooms! As far as the food goes, they have a nice little salad bar. Nothing fancy, just standard iceberg, veggies, and dressings, but everything was fresh and tasty. The fried chicken was pretty good, hot, juicy, and well-seasoned. We also liked the fried fish, although it did not seem like "cod," which is what we were told....more like perch. It was good, though. The warm pecan pie with ice cream was delicious! Now for those things that could be improved....the corn that was served with my meal (no choices) was obviously canned and tasted like it. The mashed potatoes were okay, but nothing special, not sure if they were homemade or instant because the "gravy" poured on top of them dominated any taste there was. The thick dark brown gravy did not conjure up memories of homemade gravy made with real meat drippings, but it seemed to be either a mix or what came in a jar. We ordered 2 beverages, 2 dinners (fried fish and chicken) and one piece of pie with ice cream. Our bill was $40.99, without tip, which we feel was pretty pricey. read more

Prices are way too expensive, cost me $32 for two people. Service was good though. Employees are very nice and get the food out fast.

Breakfast service was SLOW. The restaurant wasn't even full. It took the waitress 10 mins to come back and take our order, and then the food took 35 minutes to arrive. My meal included 2 eggs, any style. I ordered them poached, and they came out mostly hard boiled. Then, after I paid, I noticed that they charged me an extra 25 cents to poach my included eggs. WTF? Paper towel dispenser in bathroom was empty, so the kids and I both had to wipe our hands on our pants. There was urine all over the floor under the urinal running towards the drain, which we had to expertly avoid so as not to track it into the car. We will not return. read more

I was thrilled that they were serving breakfast at 7 am, it seemed there wasn't much else open in the area. My food was great, crispy hash browns and fried ham! I saw all the great reviews so my family and I went here. We were greeted by a cantankerous waitress who spoke to me rudely, and impatiently let me know that drink refills would not be included in my son's kids' meal without me even asking about it. The evenings special was an all-you-can-ear chicken night and my husband ordered it. The chicken was flavorless and seemed completely unseasoned. For the terrible treatment by the server and mediocre at best meal, we will not return. I'm hoping it was just that the waitress was having personal issues or something, and not that we are a mixed race family. What a gem of a find! Great little restaurant just off the road in Pequot Lakes Minnesota. I was up here for business and went over for a late lunch early dinner. It looks just like a mom-and-pop diner but the food is incredible. Not to mention the homemade pies which we will get you later. (Did I mention the homemade pies?) I orderedthe twisted turkey sandwich which came on a cranberry wild rice bread that was out of this world. The french fries were crispy and hot. I ordered the raspberry rhubarb pie for dessert. The crust was flaky, just like my moms! It was not too tart and not too sweet and in my opinion, perfect mix of raspberry and rhubarb. The service was excellent! Today might be the last day we eat here. It had become a regular Tuesday thing before a movie; but, it had really gone down hill. The salad bar had totally wilted and browning lettuce. The shrimp dinner was almost as good as the frozen shrimp I can fry at home. My husband said his turkey sandwich would have tasted like cardboard without the mustard slathered over it. And, our bill was over $40 with tip which was far too much for what we were served. I'm sorry to see this happen as the servers are always friendly and helpful. Maybe we'll give them a try again later this summer but, for now, they're off our dining list. read more
