Man, this was a really sad experience. This was my first experience going Pokémon shopping with my little nephews. They just recently graduated middle school, so I wanted to get them something. When I walked in, I was not greeted at all. Not even acknowledged that we were there. But we went to go and look at the Pokémon cards. I picked out almost 30 cards total. I walked up to him (man with big beard), and asked him if we could work out a deal since I'm buying in bulk. He then looks at my nephews, then looks at me and says "fuck no". I was in utter shock. He told me they just brought those back from a card show and they were priced accordingly (prices is most likely why they didn't sell at the show). He stated they were somebody else cards, so I don't know why he was so rude about them. At the end while I was ready to buy, I had to interrupt them, playing a game for them to even serve me. Once I bought my kids the cards, I asked him if the other guy would be in, and if he would be willing to negotiate. The man with the beard then says to me " you're not even worth the time to talk to or negotiate with". Hello, the fact that I even gave them business, or wanted to seems like a burden on employees there. Being disrespected in front of my family for just asking questions about cards is unacceptable. They are not professional here, and I don't suggest anybody that ever wants to have a decent experience to go to this place. They don't respond to reviews either from the looks of it. Which means they don't take accountability. Go to the mall and go to the card shop there instead. They are 10 times better. Or make the drive to Sacramento, even if it's more expensive with gas. You'll have a more pleasant and enjoyable experience with you and your family. read more

I revisited the store not too long ago and.......I still feel the same way I did previously. I stopped by to grab brunch with the fam and thought "let me give it another shot." When I went in, the dude that was running the store was chilling on the couch behind the register. Idk, I didn't really feel welcomed as well. my sister and fam decided to come in and they also commented on how dry the store was. When it comes to inventory, they're okay. My fiancé and I were very excited to discover we have a game store in our area! We had just moved here recently. Our first time in this shop, we were greeted warmly by the owner and he was awesome! He gave us lots of great tips on places to go in the area and gave us the run-down on his shop/days people come to play games in the back. The shop itself is spacious and has a very curated collection. We are super excited to have a place to play games as well, and can't wait to do so. This shop has a really vast assortment of collectible cards as well as an extremely accessible collection of singles. As someone who buys a lot of singles for card decks, it was a fantastic experience to be able to see up close the variety of rare cards in stock. The owner was helpful in finding cards I needed for my decks, and then afterwards sat and played multiple games of Magic with my wife and me. We had a really great experience there and will definitely be going back! read more

My friends and I saw this place from across the street (from Big Dawgz Burgers) and agreed we had to check it out. We went in and it had the staples; Magic: The Gathering, D&D, Warhammer, Yu-Gi-Oh, and a sweet selection of board games. I was happy just to pick up a board game and leave but we were curious as to what MtG exactly was. We considered buying some core beginner stuff but the man with the awesome beard was like "Nah. Take these." And handed us some free beginner decks. He then personally taught us how to play the game. Not necessarily polite but I definitely had a great time and I know my friends did as well. Went in for the first time today to get my son some Yugio cards. No greeting by any staff who were engrossed in a card game in the back with friends/other customers. After finally getting some sort of acknowledgement the owner/employee begrudgingly walked up and retrieved a couple packs of cards from behind the counter. Customer service was subpar and the layout/cleanliness of the store was repugnant. I will likely not return. read more

Went to this store a few weeks ago looking for some cards. I asked someone at the register if it would be possible to buy a newer card set. While they didn't have it in stock, he said he'd be willing to check it out later. I said okay and gave him my information. If you need a game, Want a game or just gaming stuff in general, This is the place to go. My sons goes there, Granddaughter goes there and I go there. 3 Generations, I think it is the place to buy all your gaming needs. Not that I play Magic the Gathering much, I am what you call a newbe when it comes to card games. It is a great place to go, hang out with family and relax. Would you want your 18 year old going out and drinking or Gaming with his buddies on a Friday night, indoors , where you know where he is at, can pick him up when you want. You can walk right in and not send someone else to get him/her and you are always welcome. I notice a couple of other posts that were pretty negative. 1. A lady says its cheaper online, Of course it is, can you pick it right up off the shelf online and start reading it. 2. Mark F. - I have been in there numerous times and no one has ever threatened me, must have done something pretty bad such as stole something from the shop. 3. Brian B. - The name of the place says it all " A Place to Game". The owner does exactly what I expect with that name, He entertains the majority of the customers and as for the cleanliness of the store, he is not Wal-mart. I REALLY wanted to like this store. I've been looking forward to shopping in here for years and was planning to start going in a lot to get tabletop games and start my own collection. I'm fairly new to tabletop games and I really wanted to get my first D&D handbook because I played it once a few years ago and absolutely loved it and wanted to get into it again and maybe meet some new friends. Having bad social anxiety, I was really hoping to become a regular in the store and meet people with similar interests. I saw the handbook I wanted on Amazon for $30 and assumed that was the price, so my grandma, younger brother, and I went into A Place to Game so I could just get the book now. We walk in, there are a few other customers there talking to the people behind the counters. I found the handbook but didn't see a price tag on it like everything else had. Being too nervous to ask myself, my grandma went up and asked for me. We waited for the guy to ring up another couple, he said hi and my grandma asked about the book. He told us it was $49.99. Being a college student, I couldn't afford that price and my grandma said since it's only $30 online I should just buy it there. This made the guy angry and he very rudely said, "Yeah. Go do that, buy it online then. Some people just don't like retail." I went and put the book back, sad that I couldn't get it and how he had treated us. While we were walking out, he rudely says to the people who bought something before us, loud enough so he knows we hear him, "Thank you for supporting your local game store." I was extremely upset that I was treated like I was a low life just because I wanted to buy the same exact book but cheaper because it was all I could afford. Being someone who has Aspergers I was really hoping I'd be able to go in a lot and meet new people and learn some new things. I was more than happy to support the store and buy lots of tabletop games after I start my new job and have the extra money, but after being treated the way we were, I am completely fine with driving to Sac or Grass Valley to a different game stop. I'm not going to support a store who treats people like crap just because they couldn't afford something at the time. read more

Although the place mainly caters to Magic the gathering players, the staff are very personal and honest with products and don't try to shmooze you on any items they themselves wouldnt buy if they were in your shoes. Sometimes raise prices on things by a very minimum percent (say a $99 item at $110 ) but thats par for the course with most local business in the area, this is completely worth it for the continued presence of a game store that has so much knowledge on games. And over the last handful of years, i've really grown to like both the customers that regularly come here and the employees who make taking part in all the hobbies here such a passionate and energetic experience. read more
