Business practice is dishonest...I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra I had to have towed to Clayton Auto…read moreSolutions due to not starting. I talked to Aaron Baker over the phone before having it towed to their location, and he told me that they would have to charge me $175.00 to diagnose the truck to see what the problem was and I informed him that it was already done, and it is more than likely the starter. Mr. Baker told me this is their policy that before performing any work that I would have to pay the $175.00 It was against my better judgement, I agreed because I needed to get the truck repaired due to having to travel out of town. So, I had the truck towed their Thursday afternoon. I received a call from Aaron Friday morning informing me that I needed a new battery to start out with and if that doesn't fix the problem then it's the starter. I asked Aaron what the cost is for a new battery and starter, and he replied $2235.00 out the door and that includes the diagnose fee. I told Aaron to hold off and let me think about it. I Stopped by Auto Zone and purchased a new battery for $258.00 and then went to meet with Aaron at Clayton Auto Solutions and that's when all the BS started. I asked Aaron to give me a break down of the cost of the battery and starter and diagnose fee and the total labor cost. He said the total cost would $2235.00. I asked Aaron why so much and guess what more BS. Aaron replies that flat rate manuals say 8 hours to replace the starter and proceeds to tell me the process of replacing the starter, first you would have to remove the passenger front wheel then remove the heat shield in order to remove the exhaust manifold then remove the catalytic converter in Oder to slide the exhaust manifold out to remove the starter. I told Aaron I have a new battery and some tools and I would like to put the battery in my truck and see if that is going to work, he said don't worry about it I will have my mechanic install it for you, but it will be later today because he is really busy at this time. I said OK give me a call when you can give me an update and went outside and watched Aaron and the mechanic install the battery in 5 minutes. I then went back inside to talk to Aaron, and he said it's the starter and then I told him that the labor cost is way too high and what could he do to lower it. We agreed on $1600.00 with me suppling the battery and he said it will be finish by Wednesday. I get a call Wednesday and Aaron said the truck is ready. I went and paid the bill and left. 3 hours later I was getting ready to go out of town and went to start the truck in my driveway and damn same thing it would not start so I open the hood to see what's going on and noticed the negative side of the battery cable was loose and the battery strap that secures the battery in place was just lying on the battery and by the way they charged $38.00 to install my battery. Now more RED FLAGS I have a friend that has a lift, and we found out that CLAYTON AUTO SOLUTIONS did not do what they said they were going to do in that 8-hour estimate. I have 100 % proof that they lied to me. All they did in less than 2 hours was lift the truck up remove 3 bolts and a small heat shield and mangle the other heat shield and disconnect starter and slide it out from under the truck. We had to fix the bent-up heat shield and put a bolt in the smaller shield that they missed. When I got back in town, I called Aaron and asked him once again what they did in order to replace the starter, and Aaron told me word for word witch he explained above. I proceeded to explain to him of my findings including the poor battery install and that I have recorded this conversation and that I would move forward with my findings and hung up. Within 30 minutes I get a call from the manager, and he asked to me to explain what happened, I told him everything and what I was planning on doing and he admitted that they didn't do what they said and what could they do to not blow this up any further. I told him that it's not the money it's your business practice is dishonest, and people should know. And believe it or not he still offered me a refund on the exhaust manifold gasket that they did not use, about $30.00 and then proceeded to tell me to have a great day and if I ever need repairs on my truck to please bring elsewhere. Very un-professional Bottom line they lied and charged me $1100.00 for 2 hours work.
