I had a horrific experience. The movers showed up, angry and exhausted because, they said, they were supposed to be done for the day. Then they said they thought I was moving to NYC and they were only loading. (I was moving within Somerville). I had a 1 bedroom apartment but they said it was much more and they could not do it. I contacted the scheduler / main office and told them there's a situation going on.. The head mover was angry and was threatening to quit. They spoke, i guess it got worked out because they began loading but because the company recognized this was not an easy job they sent more hands over to load. another problem is that the crew they sent were _not_ mature, professional movers. These were kids, and it made the move all the more stressful. The overall move took over 9 hours and they forgot some things at my original location. so the next day I had to contact them and meet them there to get those items picked up. Also, there were new.scratches and dings done to some ofy furniture and to the walls of my new place. There are things you just don't notice until the next day after a 9+ but move to which the crew shows up late and then is in such a foulood they don't want to do it at all. This was such a stressful experience. The main office did a good job attending to the problem with the crew and trying to address by sending more people (for the load up not the drop off) and by promptly sending a truck to pick up the items that the first crew left in the original move. However,. It was a very difficult day and to be honest I was extremely stressed out. I was worried that I maybe shouldn't even be letting such a disgruntled crew be handling my possessions! moving is inherently a stressful experience but this was my most stressful one ever. You've U-Hauled. We all have. You need to save the money and so you throw the dice, drive a large truck through streets drawn in the 18th century, carry your own mattress, couches, and bureaus down three flights of spiral staircase, pray to God that nothing valuable gets smashed in transit only to do it all over again, this time UP the stairs. Lady said we aren't doing it this year because we're in our late 20's and we have no more friends, so when the time came we yelped it and since apparently everyone is great, I went with my honors kid instinct and eeny-meeneyed A-Plus. The short story is paying for someone to do the hard part for you is so very worth the money. I'm a real misanthrope, and I was really worried about the guys being surly, rough-handed ex-cons or something. But then they showed up and they were really friendly and professional. Wouldn't even take a beer when it was over. "mluuhh I have to drive." whatever. They were like a swarm of locusts they way they descended on our stuff, they stopped at both my and the lady's old places, and we were moved into the new place after maybe four hours, start to finish. I once U-Hauled from Kelton St to Greylock and it still took half the day. I felt like I should have been drenched in sweat or screaming from a hernia for being done in so short a time. read more

I'd give them 3.5 stars so I'll round up. You get what you pay for. We got a $50 yelp voucher and took them up on their % off if you pay in cash so this move was on the cheaper side. With that said, there were marks on the walls (which most came off with some soapy water and elbow grease) and dings in our furniture. They did crack our glass aquarium but they did give us money back towards a new one. These aren't men who are going to handle your things with white gloves but they were nice and quick moving. If you are particular or if you have fancy, expensive furniture, just watch them like a hawk when they load your things into their truck. I can't complain too much as i don't have a huge connection to my fine IKEA wares. These guys care about their business and will definitely follow up with you in a very professional manner on any issues you may have. I would book them again. read more

I moved from the city to the suburbs with A+ and I was very happy with the service. The movers showed up at the beginning of the window in which they said they would and they efficiently packed all my things. Nothing was scratched or broken during the move and they put all items in whatever room you asked for. I want to move into a bigger and better Chi-town pad, and couldn't think of a better way than getting my newly graduated younger sib to move in with me and split rent! I wasn't sure about the details of such a big move. My parents and I moved her to Boston after high school where she was just a dorm room baby her first year. After that she moved in with some girlfriends and has managed to accumulate an unimaginable amount of stuff over the years. I had no idea a college student could amass so many shoes, bags, and cute, random pieces of furniture! Mike was totally understanding. He answered all of our questions and allayed all of my sister's fears about "leaving her whole life behind and hoping it all makes it to Chicago." So dramatic! The movers were super friendly and even helped us with some last minute wrapping and packing. Everything was handled with care. Unloading in Chicago was super fast, too. Over the last few years I have moved more times than anyone should with the bulk of items ending up in two places - at my house that I own with my ex-husband and at the apartment that I moved into with my current boyfriend. I swore up and down that I would never move again because it's a pain in the rear, but after living with the boyfriend over a year we decided to upgrade our place and get the rest of my furniture and belongings away from the ex. It seemed like a logistical nightmare and I was having flashbacks to my last BIG move (into the house) where U-haul messed up our truck rental and it took twice as many trips with a smaller truck on a 95-degree day in July. Customer service was awesome and answered the mile long list of questions I had. I was nervous because I'd never been professionally moved before and I'm obsessed and possessive about my mid-century furniture collection. Also, needing to move things from two locations to one, seemed crazy, but I'm almost speechless about how easy the process was. After years of moving heavy items back and forth, to have people do that FOR you and PROPERLY without so much as a scratch on your over-priced reclaimed wood dining table, well people, let me tell you, I felt like a princess for a day. Never again will I attempt to move myself. This took less than half the time that it would have if we'd done it ourselves and I thought the grand total was very reasonable. Considering the multiple trips we would have had to make, it would have taken us a few days and many bribed family members instead of the afternoon it took the guys at A-Plus to do it. This was my first time hiring professional movers for a very dreaded move, and now I know what I've been missing all these years. All the credit for the 5-star-worthy effort goes to the actual moving crew (Randall, P, and James) for being professional, quick, and having great attitudes during what was a frustrating day for all of us. I scheduled my move with A-Plus well in advance, and all was set and good to go. Moving is stressful anyway, but a major unexpected delay occurred the day-of threw us completely off schedule. It was 100% out of the control of the crew, and while I was in touch with the main office the entire time, I wasn't very happy with the level of customer service I received on those calls. Not so much as an apology from CJ, who I gathered was a manager of some sort, though he did offer a small discount for the inconvenience. Anyway, the 5 stars is because the crew more than made up for it by being so friendly and incredibly efficient. I was impressed with how they handled my larger furniture, which I thought was going to be a huge hassle for them. They handled everything with such care, as if it was their own stuff. I knew they were tired, hungry, and frustrated from the day they'd had, but they never once complained. They were so focused on making up the time we'd lost that they skipped lunch. I forced them into letting me get them some food so they could refuel, and they whizzed through unloading all my stuff even faster than they got it out of my old place. These guys were great, they showed up early in the window they gave us and immediately set to work. Everything was wrapped up well and protected before they brought it to the truck. They were able to pack everything in we needed without a single problem. We had a giant couch that was almost impossible but they were able to get it down from a second story apartment without any trouble. Last year I felt extremely lazy. I didn't really feel like picking up a Uhaul, cramming my stuff into this tiny truck, and drive this thing from Bedford to Allston. It just wasn't going to happen. And so I looked around for movers that can give me a good deal. A-Plus quoted me 100 an hour for 3 guys. They were ONE THIRD the price of Gentle Giant. Pro: The crew kept an amazing speed throughout the hot day! I was really impressed with the actual movers. These guys were pro, wrapping all my stuff, keeping good spirits, and keeping in constant communication with me, doing exactly what I asked them to do. Con: They pulled some crap during the move by sending a FOURTH guy and telling me I owed them 115 an hour for his service (which I did not request). The reason that they sent him was because they booked another job in the afternoon and were concerned that they didn't have enough time. Result: The fourth guy did save time on the move, saving me cash in the end, so I ended up paying for him. I did NOT appreciate the billing office calling me repeatedly throughout the day trying to convince me to pay for the man I did not ask for, and that I told to go home because I did not want him. I sent several moving companies identical yelp messages requesting quotes, A-Plus Moving came in cheapest and were one of the few willing to move me on a Sunday. The owner is very responsive on yelp and did a good job verifying everything for me. The movers showed up on-time and quickly loaded up the truck in Boston. Then they had to move us to our third-floor apartment in the south shore. They did grumble a lot about the stairs, but I can understand how badly so many stairs sucks in hot August. I was worried some of my belongings may have broken in the move, since I noticed many of my "fragile" boxes were at the bottom of large stacks in the truck. However, nothing got damaged. My apartment had recently burned down. One of my family member's in Boston, was contacted by my family letting them know about my situation. They happen to have a storage full of furniture that had not been used in some time. But only because they previously owned two properties and now only lived in one. They did this very efficiently and had great execution unloading and quick as well! Moving is not fun, but these guys at least made it easy. I was moving ~15 boxes, a large bedroom set, a large painting and mirror, and a few other smaller pieces of furniture from Back Bay to a storage room in Brighton. I did a pretty thorough Yelp review hunt before choosing these guys, and they didn't let me down (as always, thanks Yelp!). A-Plus movers were communicative in advance of the move, showed up when they said they would, and were very careful with my stuff. Everything that needed it was well-wrapped. The lead mover on my job (I forgot his name, sorry!) was a very intelligent, well-spoken guy who barely even flinched when he cut his hand on the storage room lock. (Don't worry, I got him bandages!) I'm a real stickler when it comes to 5 star reviews, so my one missing star reflects a few (minor) areas where they could have improved. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that I just have far too much stuff (true), but the move time did end up being well over the estimate. They'd estimated 3 hours including travel; we ended at 4.5. I've had previous movers who literally ran around with my stuff; that wasn't them. The flip side of that is that they were way more careful than movers who were running around. They also left a bunch of screws behind when taking apart my bed. The catch was the apt I was living in my parents and I has been living in for over twenty years so you can imagine how much crap had been accumulated over the years. I looked on Yelp and decided to go with A plus moving because of all the great reviews. We moved today and I can say that even though moving is stressful these guys did a great, fast job. Four guys came to do what I think was a tough job with all the things that we had. They moved fast, took apart a huge and heavy bedroom set like experts, and they were friendly and funny as well so they made the whole process easy. The price was great as well we had budgeted $1000 for the move but came out to less than $800. We bought them lunch and gave them great tips as it was well deserved.
