I bought new boots from A Racers Edge and was unhappy with the process. Most of the negative reviews seem to be from people who didn't buy new or tried to walk-in without an appointment. I hope my input is more useful for anyone else considering a new purchase, and maybe it can help the shop owner identify some gaps in quality control. *Purchased on 4/7, follow up on 4/11. Hawx Ultra 110 Boa @ $979* I know this store probably encounters a lot of entitled tourists, but that's not who I am. I'm a bit shy and easy going, and sometimes you just don't quite realize how bad an experience was until afterwards. In retrospect I should have bought elsewhere, but was excited to get boots and hit the slopes quickly. That's where I'm coming from and why I went through with a purchase I didn't feel good about. The guy helping me had an attitude. He wasn't flat out rude, but definitely had an air of superiority to him. He's a local, expert skier, combined with a lifetime of experience, and I was just another tourist he had to help. It was a dismissive attitude and every question was answered as if it was a dumb one. He talked to the other workers just as much as he talked to me, if not more. I got the impression the shop owner was not around on those days. He asked me some basic questions without much follow up and made some incorrect judgments based on that limited info. He quickly measured my foot, and told me what I suspected, I have flat low volume feet on the narrow side with some pronation. I told him it makes sense because most of my running shoes are LV stability shoes. He pulled out some fancy, high end boots to try first. They felt good and it was even from a line of boots I had noted as a possible choice while doing my own research. He then pulled out a much stiffer (race?) boot which I knew wasn't going to be good. The 3rd pair was a MV boot which I knew probably wouldn't work either since we knew my foot was LV. To recap, I was asked limited questions, quickly measured, and tried on 3 boots total. The second two seemed to be ones he knew would be wrong for me and push me towards the first more expensive ones. This was nothing like the boot fittings I've heard of. People told me about trying on tons of boots, working to replicate perfect positioning, and spending 2 hours finding their ideal fit. I was in a bit of shock when he seemed finished with me after I tried on the first boots a second time. My fitting was wrapping up after only 30 minutes and no other options were being presented. I ended up paying $900 for a boot that was being sold for $500-600 at every other place I could find. I didn't realize this until I got back to my room and looked it up. Immediate buyer's remorse sunk in. I just didn't have the nerve to return them at that point. I hoped he would make it right during the follow up. I would have been satisfied paying the full MSRP price difference if I was receiving a true boot fitting experience and quality time towards a perfect fit, but I didn't receive either of those things. It's also important to mention that he misquoted the boot for $800 until we reached the register, casually noting the difference. During my follow up I told him my inner ankle bones were rubbing. He said a footbed might help, but he could try one thing first. I saw my opening to mention the price difference. I said "I know I'm paying for your expertise and time, but noticed a $300-400 difference. Do you think you could give me a discount on a footbed or anything to help me feel a bit better about that?" He rudely dismissed it and said "well if you wanna buy the wrong boot somewhere else and bring it here it would cost you hundreds for me to fix it. I quickly dropped it, but disagree with everything he said. I could've easily bought the same boot based on my own research. He didn't do any worthwhile alterations or add any value suggesting a line of boots I was already eyeing. He unscrewed the boot boards and tossed the screws aside, "ah you don't need those." Even if they were not important, I would have preferred he kept them as the manufactured intended or at least saved the screws. He duct taped some inner heal wedges while distractedly chatting with the other workers. The right felt a bit better, but the left felt worse. He replied, "That's not possible cause the inserts make it so your ankle leans the other way now." He didn't try to address the issue any further. The next day I skied for an hour before having to stop and check them. I found the issue... It was completely out of place. The pictures attached show how I found them and the lack of effort in the work. I borrowed tape and fixed them myself. 2 hours wasted on my final day. TLDR; didn't get a proper boot fitting experience, over paid by around 40%, had to fix sloppy alteration work myself, probably got the wrong boot. Overall really bummed at the waste of money and time, but mostly just disappointed I didn't get a real boot fitting experience. read more

Been in here about three times and the employees always seem upset I came in. In my latest misadventure I called about getting my bindings adjusted to new boots and was told to come in Tuesday. Came in Tuesday and got a "Why are YOU here?" "It'll be $65 dollars but I can't do it today". When I asked what that means I was told "Well not today probably not tomorrow who knows when I can get to it". Your luck may vary but personally for me I've always left with a bad taste in my mouth. I've had difficulty with ski boots for years. Zach worked with me for well over two hours trying on over 15 different pair of boots before settling on the best pair for me. He wasn't interested in selling me a boot based on any criteria except fit and performance. Once we settled on the best candidate, we further customized them by heating, stretching and cooling them based on my foot's needs. I skiied 4 straight days immediately after getting my boots with 0 discomfort and much improved performance. I'm a better skier because of the folks here and, more importantly, I'm a more comfortable skier. They are in high demand (because they're good) and a little thin on help at the moment, so plan ahead and be patient getting a time booked. They're worth the wait. read more

Best ski shop I have been to. Went in for a boot fitting and was set up with an amazing ski boot that I never would have considered. Christopher took time and did what no one else would have. He got me dialed in perfectly. In the end I bought the boots as well as skis and bindings. Racers Edge earned my business. They proved themselves. They are a professional operation. I was expecting to pay a little more and gladly would have. Pay more get more. But the prices was competitive. This in itself is a huge bonus. Brendan from Racer's edge was the best ski boot fitter I've ever worked with. My old boots finally gave out and I bought new ones at my local store in Austin. I had some pain from my wide feet and told me they couldn't mold the boot any further. I came to Racer's edge with my boots and expected to need to buy new boots. Brendan carefully took my measurements and told me my boot was fine, and he actually was able to punch it out, eliminating the pain completely. I really trust Brendan. He could've pushed me to buy a new boot and I would have, but he was able to just fix the one I had after a consultation. While there, I knew I was in good hands so I also got custom insoles and they are amazing! 10/10 experience and will send all my friends here to get fitted. read more

Nothing but great things to say about A Racers Edge! I 3-track ski, so I only ski on one foot with outriggers. This is obviously not a normal thing you see everyday and the fit is different than a typical skiier. Everyone here was so helpful and responsive to what I felt and helped walk me through the process since it was my first ski boot. They were understanding of my price point and my goals with skiing and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I've been searching for a good set of ski boots for a long time. My previous boots were from Surefoot, and despite two custom fittings and several mods, the Surefoot boots remained torture devices. Upon arriving at Racers Edge, I met with Justin, who measured and examines my feet, for sizing and flexibility. Based on this, he gave me several options and walked me through each boot, offering advice and fielding so many questions on boot fit, performance, etc. at the end of this, I walked out with a new pair of boots, with a lifetime fit guarantee. I've skied on them for four days already, with no issue, and haven't skied better. Boots and experience were so good, my girlfriend went back the next day for her first pair of ski boots, which worked fabulous. 12/10 would recommend, unless you're looking for torture devices, then try Surefoot. read more

Guy is amazing! I came in to A Racer's Edge with a relatively new pair of boots bought back home in New York. They weren't yet perfect and I had some pressure issues with the mid foot. I was pretty sure that I needed custom foot beds but didn't go in with any expectations. Gus spent nearly an hour taking measurements and fitted me with some custom foot beds that really did the trick. Boots are just about perfect now and I'm super happy with the service I received. After a long day of painful skiing in rentals in Keystone, a ski instructor recommended I meet with Chuck at Racers Edge. I called to make an appointment this morning and the only appointment they had was with Justin. Seeing that we were only in town for another day I decided getting in was better than any options we had in Phoenix, Arizona! I arrived promptly at my appointment time and Justin was ready and waiting for me. I explained the challenges I was facing and he listened thoroughly to what I was saying (can't say he same for the rental facility in Keystone). I was more than impressed with all the measurements and testing he did to determine why I was having the pain in my boots and to make the boots fit me perfectly!! Efficient and to the point service and didn't try to sell us new boots. Sands did a great job. These guys are known across the state for knowing their stuff. I will say that unless you are a friend of a friend or on a local team, you will pay somewhat of a premium for the service (foot beds etc.). We went in for a quick tune up on boots and the service was complete in less than 30 minutes. while I won't disclose the awesome deal we were given on the brief encounter, it was unexpected and appreciated. My first sniff test of a boot fitter is the attempt to sell me an expensive new boot. Obviously, most shops at resorts depend on rich folks not knowing anything willing to drop a grand on boots they will wear a couple days a year. These guys did not try to do this...perhaps it was because I just got my boots for work so they were brand new... Highly recommended if you just got into town and have new boots. Get them fitted here before your first day out and you will have a new appreciation for quality boot fitting art. read more

Make an appointment! I went in unscheduled in 2019 after skiing to buy and add Booster straps to my ski boots. The staff were busy with other customers (which is fine) but weren't very helpful as they tried to squeeze me in. I picked up the boots the next day and it was good. The second time I made an appointment. I spent a lot of time talking with Justin about my various boot fit troubles. He ended up punching more room in the shell for my second toe and tweaked the 'J' pads in the liner, and we agreed to wait and see on my other issues. He only charged me a ridiculously low $10 for the few minutes he spent doing the work, not the 20 minutes we talked. Great service from experts. Charge mo' money! read more

I dropped by Racer's Edge on an evening 5/5:30, after spending a day or two with my ill-fitting boots. There was a slight evening rush, with 4-5 people waiting in front of me, a combination of Breck staff and folks coming off the mountain as it closed. After a wait, Zach sat me down and walked through a boot fit assessment. We talked over the variations between my left and right foot and the best plan to alleviate discomfort in my current boots. Next, he went through with the alterations - a heel insert, a punch out one of the sides on the shell and a padded stretch of the boot-liner. At no point did I feel rushed during this process even though there was a slight queue lined up also awaiting service.Before leaving I was told to come back as I got to break in the adjustments through my trip, if anything was continuing to bother me about the boots. Through the whole process (the duration of my ski trip) and each visit (3 in total) each member of the Racer's Edge team took the time and care to give me the best advice and alterations for my boot. I was very impressed by their well deserved 5-star status and service, I worked with both Zach and Joe and fully recommend their expertise and services. read more

I came to Breck with a new pair of boots that I had skied I one time previously. Day 1 of the trip, my feet and calves were in excruciating pain. I really thought I wouldn't ski the rest of the trip. My mom and I stopped into A Racers Edge and talked with a guy named Justin. He worked with me and my boots for about an hour. I explained everything that hurt and he was able to make adjustment to my boots. He gave me heel lifts and was also able to stretch the shell of my boots near my toes. He was extremely nice and patient and also gave me a few small pointers on my skiing form. I had an absolutely wonderful next day on the slopes. Justin was like a miracle worker. I've purchased 2 pairs of boots in the past 4 years. Both were painful and left me wanting to stop skiing. Finally after 2 more days of frustration, I was referred to A Racers Edge. I made an appointment with Zach and after 2 hours I walked out with the best fitting boots. He spent the time and effort to make sure I was in the right boots to fit my feet. While watching other customers being attended to, they ALL received the same level of attention to ensure that they were fitted properly. I did decide to go back the next day for custom orthotics and my appt. was with Guy. Again, the same level of service and attention. I made an appointment with A Racer's Edge for help with some boots I had purchased a few months ago, and which were now pinching nerves in my feet. After some questions, they were able to recommend a few tweaks that made an enormous difference in the fit of my boots... and when I left, they told me that if it didn't work, not to buy new ones - they'd try something else. I was very impressed with how thorough they were in making sure the modifications worked. While skiing isn't the cheapest sport in the world, I would easily have paid double for what I received. My boots are now incredibly comfortable - and even the one that wasn't bothering me is notably more pleasant to wear. I'd recommend them in a second. read more

They are very helpful and friendly. I had bought some snowboard boots down in Denver and the shop heat molded them. While riding at Breck yesterday my right heel was killing me. Today I rode 4 runs and couldn't take it anymore. I brought my snowboard boots, which I didn't buy here, into A Racers Edge which is clearly a ski shop. They took a look at my boots and listened to where the pain was and how it felt. They pulled out the footbed and heated it up to flatten it a bit so my heel would sit right on the bottom of my boot. I asked about him making me some custom footbeds however he was kind enough not to just take my money and sell me them, instead he told me I would not like them because they are specific for ski boots and would be too stiff/hard for snowboard boots. I highly recommend this shop to anyone and will 100% give them my return business when possible. read more

I am a new adaptive skier who needed boots and knew nothing about the options available to me. Chuck is fantastic. He is so knowledgeable and worked so very hard to get everything perfect for me. He knew that I would need all sorts of modifications to my boots and liners and was excellent throughout the process. For someone who didn't have a clue, I have learned so much from him in just the few hours I've spent with him. I also never felt awkward in having a non-medical person deal with my disability. In dealing with me, and all of the other customers I've seen him with, he wants to create a perfect fit so that YOU are comfortable riding. The customer service couldn't be better.
