Oooo baby. This is an absolutely teeny tiny little restaurant that you'd probably walk past if you didn't know it existed. I got there a little before the lunch special started so I wasn't able to get it (soup, sandwich, drink for 7.5 euro??) but I got the prosciutto, Brie, and mango sandwich and it was so perfect I can't imagine adding soup would've made my life better. I took a risk and got this because I'm not usually a sweet and salty gal nor do (did??) I believe that fruit belongs on sandwiches by my goodness. The creaminess of the Brie and the sweet and tanginess of the mango made this sandwich truly delectable. Add in the chewy yet crunchy bread? Forget it. This sandwich was delicious, the vino verde was 2.5 euros, and I left feeling refreshed and ready for another Porto adventure. Not related but there were only women working. The waitress and the two chefs were women and that's badass to me (even if it was just a coincidence).
I lucked out and caught them at a moment there was no line and a table available. The line quickly formed and it's well worth the wait. They are cash only so bring cash with you for lunch. The lunch special is 11 euro and I had soup, sandwich and a drink for the cost. Staff is friendly and although busy does an amazing job. Food was delicious. It's small inside but has a cozy feel.
This little hole-in-the-wall is my favorite place in Porto. It's tiny, but so charming! Definitely worth the wait for a place to sit inside. Picture strings of origami birds hung on the wall, fairy lights, and wooden paneled walls. The owner is quick on her feet, efficient, and polite. We went two separate times. The first time, we ordered a Vitória sandwich to-go the first time (prosciutto, brie, and mango) and I devoured it before I even thought about taking a photo. The second time, we dined in and ordered the fried potatoes and the lunch special: a Ribeira salad, vegetable soup, and mint ginger lemonade. My boyfriend didn't like the lemonade as he said it wasn't sweet enough, but I thought that the more bitter taste paired well with the salad. Everything is super fresh and a gorgeous, vibrant mix of colors. It felt so authentic and local, unlike some of the more touristy places we visited previously.
Super small place. Really yummy sandwiches. Cash only. Would go back for sure. Lots of vegetarian options.

I would come back to Porto for a layover just so I could have the Sâo Joáo sandwich again. It comes with tomato, peppers, house-made salsa, and sardines, all enclosed in freshly baked bread. After days of eating heavy meats and seafood, this was an extremely refreshing break. I also tried our dad's Vitória sandwich, which came with smoked ham, brie, and mango, and was just as delicious. Their soup of the day when we visited was curry leek, and it was so good that I almost asked for the recipe. Each sandwich cost 6.50 euros at the time of writing, and a weekday lunch special lets you have a soup and sandwich for 9.00 euros.
I typically never crave sandwiches (except for banh mi), but this sandwich spot was a hidden gem! I ordered the sardines sandwich and everything about it was so fresh - from the bread which was super soft to the sardines, sauce, and all the veggies inside. We also got the soup of the day which was a carrot and beet soup and it was a perfect balance of flavors. I saw someone post below about the mango and Brie sandwich - didn't see that on the menu but might have to go back for it to double check!

The bread is airy yet crispy. Try some of the local Portuguese beers while you're at it. Cash only. Worth being late for your train. 1000/10 stars.
Oh. My. Goodness. First off, the food is freaking awesome! I got a smoked ham (prosciutto), Brie, and mango sandwich and zero regrets! The bread was crunchy on the outside but moist on the inside. My husband got the same sandwich except he had dates instead of mango and it was just as good. We also had the tomato, cheese, and olive appetizer, which was delicious. On a side note: it's a super small restaurant and the tables are right next to each other but totally worth the claustrophobia.
Teeny, tiny, claustrophobic place but worth sardine-ing yourself. Sandwiches served on fresh, crunchy multigrain bread with top notch ingredients. We had: - cheese, olive and tomato appetizer - the Vitoria; prosciutto, brie and mango sandwich - the D. Luis; prosciutto, brie and dates sandwich All were delicious. Oh, and they make a mean mojito too. CASH ONLY.
We had just arrived from Lisbon and set out to find a bite...up, up up and around a small curve, passing this unassuming, ity bity shop, we peeked in and saw 2 vacant seats... What a fabulous little place. A list of innovative sandwiches on fabulous Portuguese crusty bread and soup, salads. We shared a salad called Batalha with feta, olives, dates and tomato and a Sao Joao with fresh sardines, tomato, grilled red peppers. I think the soup was cabbage, and was great. Honestly, I am going to keep the menu in my mind and re create the sandies & salads when possible. Cash, no longer is a lunch special offered in case you read some old reviews. We watched as folks were turned away..so, if you pass and are in the mood, grab a seat when you can. read more

The sandwiches were delicious and were a really good size for the price, especially compared to the US. You can also tell everything that goes into their sandwiches is super fresh and homemade. The only thing preventing me from giving this 5 stars was the sandwich was a little dry and could've used some more of the spread or sauce that they put on. read more

Small, quaint, rustic restaurant. Amazing sandwich and salad. Also had the soup which was lovely! Service does take a while (would've received 5 stars with better service)- 1 woman serving, but worth the wait in my opinion! If you don't like to be cramped, this place is not for you. read more

Super tiny but welcoming sandwich spot with staff that speaks English. They have an honor system of who's next in line and we only waited around 15 mins for a table. We each got the lunch special which was a soup, drink, and sandwich of choice for around $7. What a steal! The soup of the day was a lentil and served in a generous sized bowl. The lemonade was fresh and tart, definitely no sugar! For sandwiches, we got the Proscuitto, Brie and Mango (YUM) and the Chicken Salad with Apples one. Both were delicious but I liked the Prosciutto one better. Service is quick. We'd definitely come back to eat if we find ourselves in Porto again! read more

Great hole in the wall sandwich place! We had a short wait because of the small location but it was so worth it. All the sandwiches have fresh ingredients and the sauces are delicious. Filling for one person. They had a lunch special that is 6.5€ soup plus sandwich OR a salad and a drink. Soup of the day was red bean with cabbage and lime and it was the most delicious bean soup I've had. THe bread on the sandwiches were crunchy yet soft. I had the ham with Brie and mango and it was excellent. They speak English and Portuguese here! Many friendly travelers stopped in and they are well rated and recommended on timeout.com Would come again if I had Another day! Good for cheap lunch and vegetarian friendly!!! My husband and I were trying to find a lunch spot and came across this little gem. He mentioned sandwiches to me earlier and I said no but we happened to walk past this place and realized people were waiting outside so we figured it must be good. It's a very very tiny place and the wait was just about 30 min or so but once seated it does take quite some time for the waiter to serve you. We were able to do the lunch special which came with the soup of the day, sandwich or salad, and a drink for about 6euros. We orders the lemonade and though it was super fresh but it was extremely tart and lacking sugar. The soup of the day was a lentil and cabbage soup and at first it did not sound so appetizing but once I tried it...it was delicious! I slurped up every last sip. For my sandwich, I ordered the clerigos and added avocados to it. Absolutely delicious. The olive spread made the sandwich and I could taste the freshness in all of the ingredients. My husband ordered the Paris and he devoured it. We also orders the batatas fritas and the seasoning was perfection! I would recommend this place to all!! read more

A few tasty options for vegetarians. The bread is unbelievably fresh and soft and the sandwiches are thoughtfully made. I enjoyed my feta/olive sandwich and thought it was full of deliciousness. My husband enjoyed his goat cheese, walnuts and honey sandwich. It took 20+ minutes for 2 sandwiches to go. read more

INCREDIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE!! And price!!! My BEST meal in all of portugal so far was here and we spent only 15 euros total for 2 people. Sandwiches were phenomenal with each flavor coming out in each bite. Such a cute little place with nice decorations and a must hit in Porto truly. The sardine sandwich was perfect and so was the mango and sandwich. The server was so down to earth and was serving with love. Thank you for sharing this wonderful cooking with the world!! read more

This was the best value for my money while I was in Porto! Until 3pm, they offer a soup + salad/sandwich (of your choice) + non-alcoholic drink for 5EU. You can't go wrong, PLUS the portions are generous! Great place whether you're on a budget or not. Café itself is on the small side, service is relaxed, but friendly, and if I had another opportunity, I'd go back/recommend it without any hesitation! read more

While the second largest city in Portugal, Porto is not as developed for tourism as Lisbon. The economy in the city is still in a large slump, which means prices of goods are still super cheap here - especially the food. A Sandeira is located on a smaller side street, very close to the tower and São Bento station. The entrance is super small so you may miss it easily. The restaurant itself is also quite petite, maybe with 6 tables total and a side bar top for around 6 people. Atmosphere was warm with medium noise level. However, I dont think its suitable for groups larger than 4 people. The sandwich, fries & caprese starter I had were extremely tasty and made of super fresh ingredients. I have never gotten such food for so little money (Im sure London has skewed my perception). read more
