Went in for a smog check on Friday A.M. I handed my paper work to the worker and I asked It will be $32 plus cert. He said yes, since I had a coupon. He then proceeded to check the car prior to the test to see if it will pass. He noticed that it wouldn't and said I needed to get it fixed. The next day My engine light was off, so I took it back on Saturday. I was greeted by the "owner" and I expained to him what happened the day before. He started to tell me he would see if it would pass, and at the same time he said the price would be, $62.00 plus cert WITH a $20 coupon!!! I told him what I was quoted the day before and he without hesitating refused to honor that price! "I don't know who was telling you that", I said , "Your own worker!", "I'm the owner and we don't do that"..... Well, Mr. Business Owner YOU ARE WRONG!!! Didn't tell me he was with a customer and would help me shortly, didn't wave at me to let me know he saw me. He was helping someone so i didn't want to interrupt but i was parked in front of this place for all that time and ended up leaving with no service performed because the guy was just walking around inside after he finished with the other customer. Let me start off by saying WOW what horrible customer service. Working in the customer service industry myself, customer service is huge for me and bringing in new customers are very important to me. I called in on Friday at 10:00 am to check if they had availability to do a smog. Phone was answered by Jose with saying "smog" which no big deal that's fine. As we proceed on the 15 sec phone call I asked "do you have time to do a smog today" reply's "yeah" there was no price quoted no time it would take no enthusiasm to want to even earn my business. Then follows it up by saying "we are not star certified tho" which doesn't make sense to me because in their pictures it shows that they are star certified. So now I'm a little confused, I proceed to want to ask a question and before I can even ask he hangs up on me. Again being in the industry I always strive to give the BEST customer service and make sure all phone calls are answered with great enthusiasm and making sure I do everything I can to gain more business. Maybe they don't care? Or they were just having a bad day. I'm not one to leave a yelp review but this one really rubbed me the wrong way. With that being said I will NEVER do business with them and will NEVER recommend anybody to them. Even if I have to pay a little more for better customer service I will. read more

A brought my car in to be Smog tested on 10/07/15. I had a discount coupon that I found online for $24.75 plus $8.25 for the CA Certificate. Anthony C. did the test and the work was completed in a short time and the car passed. I would have given this Smog test location 5 stars except for the final bill. There was a $20 charge added to the final bill because Anthony said my car was a Star vehicle. He said your car fell into that category because of its age and STAR was circled on the final bill. I accepted that reason and paid $55 for the test even though my car was a 2001 and had always passed the Smog tests with great ratings. My son took his 2001 car to Official Smog in Carmichael, CA on 10/16/15. He also used a $24.75 discount coupon with an $8.35 CA Certificate and his final bill was $33.00. He told the the Technician there that his father had been charged $20 extra because his 2001 car was a Star vehicle and the cost was more. The Technician said if the car is a 1999 or older they can charge extra for the Smog test but not for a 2001. If the car is a 1976 to 1995 it requires a fuel evaporation test (LPFET) and they can charge more. On 10/16/17 I went back to A Star Smog in Antioch and told Anthony what I had found out about the age criteria. A Star vehicle charge can be added (1999 or older) and a extra charge can be added for an (LPFET) test 1995 or older. He said they are a qualified Star Vehicle Smog test location and they can add charges to recover costs tied to the discount certificates they give out. He mentioned other Smog testing location in the area that charge more than they do. I was not satisfied with his answer and believe this is a perfect example of "Bait and Switch". If I had been told about the extra $20 charge before the test was completed I would have taken the car to another Smog testing location. There were several in the Antioch area that have coupons close to this cost. I believe this was taking advantage of the customer and then changing the reason for the extra $20 charge when I returned and asked for an explanation. You can be sure that I am not going to be bringing my other vehicles to this location to be Smog tested and I am going to inform my friends about this. I intend on sharing my review on Facebook too - I don't normally get used in this manner. read more

They did get the job done and I was in and out quickly. But I think the price is high at 69.75 for truck or SUV. The charge more for a truck and more for STAR directed vehicles. It didn't take any longer than any other smog check I've had. I will shop for a better price next time. read more

Helpful and informative, very, very reasonably priced (that was quoted over the phone the day before to include certificate), and next day that price was what it was out-the-door.
