    Grilled sea bass (12.5 euros)
    Annie L.

This restaurant is recommended by a local person for its authentic Portuguese food. I arrived shortly after 7pm and was the first diner for tonight, although another came in shortly after. I ordered the green cabbage soup that was recommended by my waiter, and was happy with it. The grilled sea bass was also a very good choice for tonight as the fish was tender and delicious. My waiter was very attentive and kind so I had a great experience.

Ordered the cod, but didn't enjoy the fish here as much I have other places. Food was still pretty good though and enjoyed glasses of green wine with lunch.

Octopus and a wonderful Douro Valley Portuguese red wine! Our Airbnb host directed us here for a delicious meal of octopus. We arrived on the early side (before 8pm/20:00) and had our choice of seating both inside and out. Our waiter was so welcoming and helped us through the language barrier. A signature/recommended dish is the fried octopus, which was worth getting, but we preferred the octopus in garlic, which as accompanied with potatoes and greens. Good portions and not over cooked. The olives we ordered were a nice start, but it was the red wine that was recommended, under 15 euro for the bottle, that was such a nice accompaniment to the meal. The dark brown furniture with matching exposed ceiling beams was a nice look against the white walls. A delicious meal for one of the two nights we had in Porto. Followed it up with gelato at a much more shiny place called Amorino just down the street, a nice dessert as we walked home.

Wonderful little restaurant, about 5 min walk from the famous Livraria Lello. Reservations recommended! Great value, large portions and good wine list. We didn't have reservations but they were grateful to accommodate and squeeze in an extra table outside. We had grilled octopus with rice (about 16€), and pork tenderloin (7.5€) - both very delicious

Very good place to eat something. We ate there for lunch and we enjoyed our meals. It was very tasty and the plates was full of delicious meats. If you want to eat very well and for few euros, we recommend this address !

Apparently they don't seat parties of 1 even when the restaurant is empty. Wouldn't recommend for solo travelers

The focus here is on rotisserie chicken; they have other items but they're not the main event. It's very big inside, 2 stories and even early it's pretty busy. The chicken is well seasoned and very juicy; enough so that you know why it's So popular. Other than that, my only other clear memory of that dinner is that it was very reasonably priced. If I were in the area again, I'd return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

The table side chorizo that they light with a flame for you along with a fantastic pitcher of sangria is worthwhile. There were two other groups before us that were sat pretty quickly within 15 minutes or so. During the time we were waiting the hostess was extremely friendly and kept giving us updates on when the table was going to be ready and was making light conversation with us as we waited. When we finally got seated you could tell that the servers were definitely busy trying to get everyone's food and drinks out and so the same hostess came to us and said don't worry I'll take your order for you and told us the things that were the most popular which from my pictures we basically got everything she said LOL. And we were not disappointed with the food that we chose. Now we know why they are considered the house specialties. The flavors of the potato fish cheesy goodness dish I cannot remember the name of it was just so warm and comforting. I was worried about a fishiness coming through when you took different bites but no all the flavor is harmonized well with each other. The tuna salad that they made was extremely fresh and again was pleasantly surprised that though it was fish the spices and bread/butter combo that came with it really didn't give any fishiness. It was also well balanced. Now I will say though those other dishes were amazing our favorite hands down was definitely the grilled octopus. It was so tender and almost melt in your mouth. We were blown away by how well it was cooked. For sure I would say if you are in the area and have a good amount of time please check this spot out and give yourself at least 3 hours to enjoy the meal because again we sat there laughing eating and talking with the people around us because it was that fantastic of a Time for roughly 3 hours.

I was focused on the bifanas that Portugal was known for. I skimmed the chalkboard out the door as we passed by and my hunger instincts were right. The restaurant was small and intimate seating was at par with eateries in the area. A lot of musical instruments and trinkets adorn the walls which made up for an interesting gaze fest as we waited for our food. Lunch rush was ongoing so we had to settle being sat at the bar. That's always a plus as we got to witness the buzzing crew efficiently feed the customers. We got 4 kinds of appetizers that our server recommended. They were all good but we liked the casserole baked dish the best. My wife and I shared a rice plate of the bifanas (spicy pork steak) with fries. For drinks, I got a bottled Compal juice while my wife got her afternoon macchiato. Our bill was a grand total of €17. I even corrected them as our bottle of water wasn't included in the chit. Not bad for a hole in the wall tavern. Good food and excellent service.

We had the cod fish stew and pork chop. The fish is seriously tough - I've never had codfish this chewy before. Portugal is supposed to be famous for cod but I didn't know it's the salted kind. Taste is ok but the fish is inedible. The pork was also pretty tough and the fries that came with it was soggy and limp. Price is average. Service is decent. It seems pretty popular as a local hangout also one that gets recommended a lot to foreign visitors but I find it rather disappointing.

It's the best cooked octopus I've tried in Portugal, super tender and a nice char. A little on the expensive side, but great flavor. I wish it had more bell peppers on the side to add some sweetness. We also ordered tuna tartar, burrata with sun-dried tomatoes, and slow cooked veal. The tuna tartar was fresh but could have used some jam or freshness from some citrus. The burrata had a great creamy gazpacho sauce with fresh sun-dried tomatoes. And the veal had a nice tender wine flavor. The dessert was amazing, a trompe l'oiel lemon with lemon sorbet and a sweet cookie crumble. The lemon had a light chocolate crust and was filled with cream and lemon curd. And there were a series of small, minor issues that detracted from the experience. Bread course came warm, with a caramelized onion butter and some spicy bell pepper mayo that was ridiculously divine. This was my favorite course. Got the Cyber Punk tuna sashimi. Presentation was amazing. The tuna itself paired with the ponzu sauce was quite good. There were other elements like trout roe and crispy chicken skin, but the portions were sparse and I felt like the sauce drowned out their contribution a bit. Still a great dish though. Would order again. My main dish was the Vitela (braised veal). While the menu ostensibly presents these items for two to share, they can make half-portions of certain items, of which the Vitela was one. The meat was wonderfully tender. Flavor was had a slight tinge of bitterness and saltiness that didn't quite agree with me. Good dish overall. Service was kind and engaging. Possibly a bit too fussy over me for my American sensibilities, but they were very nice. The server knowledgeable about wine pairings and helped me pick out some for the courses I ordered. A couple of very minor issues here and there, like spilling some wine when pouring the glass, stuff like that. Also, the server shook my hand coming and going. Nice gesture but all I could think of was germs. Bathroom: Single-occupancy, upscale and nice. Toilet seat wouldn't stay up though. All in all, at decent restaurant but like I said, I had a bunch of small complaints that just added up, and it says a lot that my favorite course was the bread course. I would not repeat personally, but I think it might be worth a try for those that really love what's on the menu.
