I have been going to A to Z for years. I have been a loyal customer through all the new owner. Today I called for a full set almond shape cat eye Christmas nail. The owner said to come in. I get there she didn't have Christmas color. I show her a pic of no chip Christmas design. She said she could do it. Well it was a fail. I asked her to just remove the design. After walking out of Nailique Spa on Halsted in Homewood, I traveled to A2Z Nail Spa and was not disappointed (see my earlier post from today). Yenni was profession, patient, and pleasant. She cleaned the botched up cuticle trimming/nail shaping from the other place--without me even saying a word about my prior experience. I am so pleased with how meticulous she was as well as how my nails look. I will return and wait for her. The work is good but the customer service is terrible. They told me what time to come for an appointment I arrived exactly on time and the technician I asked about had someone else in her chair. THEY TOLD ME now and put someone else in the chair. So why give me the appointment? When I walked in, instead of telling me and asking if I can wait they let me sit and wait. This is the only place in HF where I can get an affordable gel manicure and have it last for weeks. The manicures I get here last longer than I've had at any other place. I'm seriously impressed! This is a no-fuss establishment and the staff know their stuff. Be kind to them and they'll treat you right. Used to love this place. Let me emphasize USED TO. It has really gone down hill. It's not very clean. They do not properly clean all their instruments. They cut my heal terribly, and I needed medical attention. Some of the staff could careless. A few are nice. Appointments mean absolutely nothing. Years ago, I visited this location, and I never had an issue. Please dont go here they called me a idiot in her language, thinking I wouldn't know. I should have known when they were available. The place isn't clean like it used to be. So I asked, "Please do my pedicure first.I'm trying to get to a funeral. Then I asked to get the dipping for his hands. BUYER BEWARE: After reading through the numerous poor reviews of this establishment, I threw caution to the wind in hopes that those experiences were the exception and not the rule. I walked in for a no chip manicure and pedicure. After a 20 minute wait, the guy pictured approached and sat me at his station. He proceeded to try to "file off" the previous no chip polish and I stopped him immediately and asked that he soak it off to prevent damage to my nails. He proceeded to complain very loudly in his native language. He "barely" wet the cotton and started snatching at my hands to wrap my nails with foil. Ther cotton was still dry and I'm not exaggerating. Now, I've been getting no chip for over 10 years and I know that you have to "soak" that stuff off. That's the point of using acetone... but you have to actually USE it. I politely told him that I'd prefer if he used more acetone to make sure the polish comes off without having to scrape it off. This man's attitude at this point was completely unacceptable. Again he starts yelling in his language and then asks me "You want nails done"?!? 20 minutes later, we get all the polish off and he begins to trim my cuticles... DRY! No soaking bowl, no cuticle lotion. I ask... do you not use cuticle lotion? A young Asian man comes over and asks if there is a problem. I explain my concerns about cutting my cuticles dry when in my experience, cuticle lotion is used and hands soaked in water. He brings over a dish of water and the tech snatches my hand to continue. I stop him and ask "Are you upset about something? Because if so..." and before I can finish my statement he pushes back his chair and walks away! I politely got up, snapped this pic and went about my business. Just then, both he and a female technician started yelling that I can't take pictures in their establishment. I explained to them that I'm posting a review on YELP and just as others that have reviewed have taken photos, I will also. Needless to say, the poor reviews are correct. If I could give 0 stars, I would. This establishment has no respect for the community that they serve, yet expect us to patronize and pay our hard earned money to keep them here. I've been getting my nails done here for some time now. It's nice if you need something quick but my nails and feet always seem to break or chip after the first week. (I get no chip for my feet). I no longer live in Homewood, but when I did, I frequented this shop because it was in walking distance of my then apartment. I never had problems with them then, but things have changed.. & not in a good way either! I went in to the salon on Tuesday morning of this week to get a no chip manicure /gel fill in. I had been cast in an episode of NBC's Chicago Fire and the taping was the next day. I hopper in the shower to get ready to head to set & as I was drying off, I noticed that my "no chip"nail polish that I'd JUST gotten done not even 24hrs prior was coming off of my nails! I was LIVID, but time was short and I had to report to set with my hands looking crazy. The crew tried to find a solution to cover the chipped polish, but there wasn't enough time, so I had to cover my hands with gloves during my scene‍. Taping lasted all day, so I couldn't get back to get my nails fixed until today. Despite my anger at the poor service I'd received, I took deep breaths, collected myself and walked into the salon. The same girl that did the 1st poor job was at the front desk. I told her that she did my nails Tuesday and all of the polish started coming off the very next morning. She asked if I wanted the same color (not even so much as an apology or OUNCE of remorse for the poor nail job‍‍‍). I told her to just take the polish off and paint my nails clear (if I comes off this time, I'll just repaint them myself). After all, I live ALL the way in Crete now and I don't have time to keep coming all the way back to Homewood every time these bogus nail techs screw up!!! This is the SECOND TIME in less than three weeks that I have been screwed by nail salons on this community. Ironically, I came to A to Z for this nail appointment because I'd already had a bad experience at Nailique on Halsted the other week where the SAME EXACT THING OCCURRED (yes, I left a Yelp review on them too)! They only care about a tip and do not honor appointment times professionally. Absolutely horrible. I asked for a specific color on my nails, they gave me clear. Just a clever coat. I tried to explain that wasn't what I was looking for and they ignored me. I was unfomfortable speaking up and didn't know what to do so I just paid and left. They were rude, unorganized, and the entire place was disgustingly dirty. I will never return. After seeing the other reviews and heard so many horror stories, I'm glad I didn't end up attacked or with an infection. I've been going to this establishment for nearly 25 years. They used to have the most talented, friendly staff. Had the same ladies for many years. Sadly, the owner now is a horrible person. Rude and nasty to both his employees and the clientele. The management is argumentative and shows preferential treatment. I assumed that due to the location that this salon would have good service. I went in for a mani and pedi. I ended up only getting a pedi because nobody was available to do my nails for 20-30 after I was done with my pedicure. I was sat at a nail station to wait, nobody ever came so I paid for my service and left. It wasn't the cleanest salon, the pedicure chair massage chair was broke and didn't massage properly. The equipment used was not up to par. I requested a clean nail file, as they use the same ones on everybody's feet. I didn't receive a new one, but one that was less ran down than the prior. My son and I went to AZ nails yesterday evening around 6pm to get a pedicure. I was asked to pick a color and go in the room to get a pedicure. My son got in the chair and I was standing trying to determine where I was supposed to go. One of the owners lady, says to me: "You can get a pedicure but he cannot!. I looked over to where she was pointing at it was at my son. My son Rodney is 20 years old is down syndrome and autistic. I was standing in shock. I asked her if she was pointed to my son indicating that he could not get a pedicure and she said yes. I asked" why? "No response other than no. I asked again, "why can I be serviced and not my son" ? Do you realize that you are discriminating against my son because he is special needs?" She repeated she would only service me. I asked again why? She said because she was scared. I said I am his mother and we have been coming here for years even before they took over the place. "How are you afraid and I am his mother here with him. He's never had a pedicure with you or your staff so what are you taking about?" I refused to get a pedicure if my son could not get one. As we left, I let her know how she was discriminating against my son because he is special needs and how dare she treat my son and I in this manner. ( As she tried to get my out of the shop because customers could hear us). My son was confused because he was in the chair waiting to get a pedicure. I left out and barely made it down the street before the tears flowed. I'm going to stop writing now because it's overwhelming for me. I will never patronize AZ nails in Homewood again. Ever! I have been giving this spa a chance since I moved to the town four years ago. It's never been great. During that time I believe it has switched management if not owners. The last time I went in, I asked for a pedicure and an eyebrow wax. They did the pedicure first and then I sat waiting for my waxing for about 20 minutes before I explained that I really needed to go and they took my name down so I could return, as I had already paid for the service. Well, I went back in today and was spoken to rather rudely about it, because I didn't come back the next day. And then I waited again to the point that I said I would rather schedule an appointment if it's hard on them to have a walk-in wax job. The young man at the register got a little snappy then told me it would be two minutes (the place was nearly empty--one other client, for employees). When the girl came into the room, she proceeded to give me the roughest eyebrow waxing I've ever had in the 20 years I've been getting my effing eyebrows waxed. And then when she was done, I saw that she did them unevenly. When I pointed it out, she told me that she didn't do that. That I just naturally don't have hair on the outer left side of my eyebrow. My Eastern European lineage and I beg to differ. The things are a hairy mess, which is why I get them waxed. Anyhow, I am done with this place. It's just gone further and further downhill. I went to this nail salon two weeks ago and I was happy with the results. I decided to go back for my fill in today. When I had a complaint about the nail polish not adhering to the nail smoothly the nail tech got very irritated! A man that can come in for a Mani-pedi and not feel like a spectacle ( bug under glass) I don't go often but they're there. My Daughter goes my Granddaughter goes, and my Grandson isn't able to go yet ( he's 2mo) but in time. The experience of the shop is extraordinary.
