Neighborhood gem, one of the last oldschool bars still holding strong in Harlem. I'm happy to know it's been renovated to a more modern appeal, extremely sheik with added TVs for all sporting events. The drink prices are exceptional responsible compared to other venues in the area. More mature crowd might I add. Opens early and closes late. Wow!!! What a great neighborhood hidden gem. My husband and I always pass by this bar but never stop in. Sunday night we decided to drop in and give it a try. Our bartender was Mrs. Pearl and she was complete sweetheart!!!! A Touch of Dee has a neighborhood feel to it and I loved it for that reason. Spoke with a gentlemen that was part of security and he filled myself and my husband on different nights were they have special promos and events. This bar is def for the older and mature crowd. They do have a credit card minimum which was 20 dollars. I got a top shelf gin and my husband got Makers for only $15. You can't beat that with a stick Thanks Touch of Dee. If I could give 0 stars I would. Just went in to purchase a drink so I can use the bathroom as it was an emergency. I can also read, thankfully, that the sign says restroom for customers only so don't even ask. I went in and asked "hi can I purchase a drink so I may use your bathroom?" The woman, an elderly possibly black woman, automatically says "no go around the corner" as if I know what is around here to assume what is around the corner. She then states she isn't serving me and I can't be in there because I'm not 21. I reply do you even know how old I am? Have you even seen or asked for my ID? Mind you I'm in my 30s and blessed with a mixed background. She said I can use the Spanish restaurant around the corner and not there. She said well fine let me see your ID but trust me it'll be easier to use that. Like how sway would it have been easier to use that. Yall out here worrying about gentrification but turning away customers who are willing to pay aka buy a drink to use your bathroom. Mind you I'm mixed and always mistaken for being only Spanish that clearly I wasn't good enough to use Touch of Dee's bathroom yet told to go around the corner and use the one at the Spanish restaurant. After a clearly ageist statement. Like wow seriously. If I was a crackhead I would've taken my diarrhea filled dump right in that establishment. We stumbled on A Touch of Dee one night when we decided to have dinner in Harlem. It also happened to be the night of President Obama's inauguration. Dee was at the bar and she was very nice and friendly. She immediately introduced herself to my group of friends and then introduced us to her favorite regulars (about 10 people-everyone else in the bar). Everyone was super friendly and wanted our perspective (because we were white, no racism here) and feelings on Obama being elected. We had a very educated and interesting conversation about Obama and racial differences. It was great! The beers were cheap, the people were friendly, and there was free food (I think because they were having a little inaugural party though), and all in all it was a fabulous time. read more

My first review for a bar worthy of 5 stars. Initially, I was hesitant as yelp only had 3 reviews rating it as 5 stars, but after a night there I understand why. I was there for some sort of anniversary and they offered free food. A member of Dee's family made sure I felt at home. He saw me waiting and approached me asking me how he could help and kindly welcomed me. This was when the bar was pretty packed. The people at the bar seemed to know each other and seemed to be a part of a tight, but welcoming community. It was awesome. The drinks were cheap and good. I was reluctant as some of the drinks were in plastic cups but don't let that scare you, it didn't affect anything. The area outside might seem "sketch" but referring back to the community, I struck a conversation with someone who lives around there. This was by far one of the greatest dive bar experiences I've bad. I'm coming from seeing dive bars in Chicago and Vegas. I am definitely coming back here again. Cool neighborhood spot, that is very low key, and has some of the cheapest drinks in the area. Definitely a hidden gem, and luckily has not been impacted by the gentrification going on the community. read more

This place is a dive bar extraordinaire ......don't let the exterior fool you it is a very welcoming place with a killer DJ and great cheap drinks! It feels more like a speakeasy and seems like one of the last vestiges of old school Harlem. I came here for a friend of a friend's bday party and it was turned all the way up! The drink everyone almost was drinking was Sex with Strangers and with a name like that it was deliciously strong and cheap at $8 and a large serving. The owner was there and is the most charming lady. Everyone was so friendly and the bar provided food and a DJ. One of the regulars is this fabulous 77 year old lady. The crowd was a mix of 20 and 30 somethings . I definitely want to go back for Old School Thursday! I'm in love with Harlem again and I'm glad that there still is a Mom and Pop place untouched by gentrification who doesn't sling overpriced watered down drinks and welcomes everyone. Harlem dive bar with a great personality. Stopped in for some celebratory libations with the team after a softball victory at the park on 143rd and Lenox. Affordable drink prices, jukebox, and a very welcoming bartender & crowd. Made some friends, took some pictures, good fun had by all. The fact that a predominantly white team is welcomed into a predominantly black bar in Harlem says a lot about the progress our great city has made. read more

We visit Manhattan every year and have always tried to see every sight and area, though hadn't yet ventured to Harlem. On this trip we made it there. We walk everywhere in order to see, hear and smell every nuance of New York. As we made it up to Harlem, we found ourselves very thirsty indeed from 59th Street. Surprisingly, there were few taverns or bars. We found A Touch of Dee's and what a pleasant surprise. We were let into the bar by Crystal (I believe) as Dee had the night off. There were about 10-12 people all swaying to Jazz music on the JukeBox. The drinks were a big surprise! We ordered a rum and diet and were told they don't have diet (haha). The drink was 3.5 oz of rum to about 1.5 oz of coke. The coke was decidedly for the color. My husband ordered a brandy as well and it was a free pour of about 3 oz. The people were very kind to us as we were clearly not locals (I'm as white looking as you can get). I've been to many a small tavern and been given the cold shoulder, but not here. A nice little place to rest your toes and have a great drink with excellent tunes in the background. read more
