Very clean and nice spot. Always went by this spot and wanted to try and I finally did. I am happy I did because me and the hub now have a close bar to chill and hang at. The prices are valid and they have entertainment with various games. There is a jukebox to play music (even though they play good selection of music already), the bathrooms are clean, it's a nice sized place, not cramped, the people working here are nice, they have tv screens and good selection of beers/drinks. This is another somewhat new spot in Harlem whose vibe I can't quite grasp, mainly because I'm not…read moresure who they're trying to attract. It feels like a coffee shop, bar, café, lounge and pre-party stop all at once. The bar staff were "nightclub friendly", they had party energy that this place doesn't warrant. They'd make fun hosts for a great party. The space itself is confusing in an interesting way. It's cold from the tiles and exposed pipes, yet warm from the wooden walls and historic decorative figures. Maybe the idea is that you show up with your group and shape the experience into whatever you want it to be. Still, I'm of the opinion that it's a shared effort. If I'm coming out and spending my money, I deserve an experience. Let me know who you are, and I can decide if you pass my vibe check. This mystified, vaguely eclectic, "we're different but won't say how" approach makes it harder to give new places a chance. I don't see a long shelf life for this one, but hey, I'm just a customer. Came, saw... ehhh.

The place is narrow but long and def maximize the space which made it feel big. Got a couple Narragansett Lagers ($6 each) to start and the Spanish & artichoke dip ($16) which was really good and it's served with sliced buttered baguette bread that was toasted which was a great compliment. Also got a Kentucky mule ($17) which was solid and pretty strong. They also have a backyard patio with seating, def a chill vibe. I could see why this is my friends go to spot. This is now my go to spot if I'm ever around the area lol Highly recommend this spot for chill night with good convo. * Everyday Happy Hour * Street parking * Good service * Can be kinda LOUD outside the surrounding area (ain't no music on) but quiet inside

I came to the Shrine World Music Venue with a few friends after a Friday evening at a cigar lounge…read more I had no expectations and had walked by the Shrine several times not knowing what was there along Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard. Unless you know about it, you can easily walk by, given it blends into the general Harlem cityscape, especially during the day. Then at night, especially during the afterhours when I was there, the scene flips and this place becomes turnt up! People were lined up trying to get inside at 0130. The bouncers were searching and patting people down, nothing absurd or overly intrusive. There is a cover charge and they take credit cards for the cover. As you walk inside, the bar in on your right. Keep going and the dancefloor awaits you. It's not that large, but people are generally very courteous. There are a few places to sit, especially in the back in the left corner. That is also where the steps lead you downstairs, presumably to the restroom, which I did not have to use. The vibe is poppin' inside and it is fed by the DJ on a stage in the back, playing Worldbeats, Afropop, Afrobeats, Reggae, Dance Hall, and Soca. They are setup for live bands here. The volume is high, but not uncomfortably or earsplittingly high. The people here are drawn to this vibe and energy. You can dance here all night and the air conditioning and ventilation are of the capacity to keep you and everyone else comfortable. Stick around until closing time at 0400 when everyone starts walking out and the AC nearly turns the Shrine into a refrigerator. For an unassuming place on the outside, it is clear this is a place you can come to with friends or a date if this is your vibe and it's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying this. Prices are reasonable too at the bar. They have a good selection of draught and bottled beer. Guinness on tap was $9 for a pint. They serve up the cocktails too. Four fun and returnworthy stars!

We did have two drinks and the service was OK. You're here for the music. My understanding is after the bands leave at midnight you can dance until 4 AM. This is a good chill, relaxed spot. You don't need to get dressed up. It's very casual and you will have a good time.

But when two white female customers arrived, he said hello to them before they even reached the counter and was noticeably warmer and more polite. Even worse, when a Black female customer later arrived and said "hi," the employee did not reply to her at all and just asked "You want this?" -- the coldest treatment of all. White customers got the most warm treatment with greetings, non-white customers (including me) got no greeting and direct cold tone, and Black customers got the worst treatment with no basic response even when they greeted first. This microaggression made me feel deeply disrespect. All customers should receive equal service regardless of their race. I expect the management to investigate this employee and provide anti-discrimination training to staff. I will not be returning until this is addressed. Others should be aware of this discriminatory treatment.
