This is a small local spot obviously it's in Castroville, but it doesn't take away from the friendly service and the tidiness of the restaurant itself. We walked in this Saturday evening and we're promptly greeted and told to pick a seat And we picked a lovely seat right by the large front window and we had a nice open window to get the air in. It was really welcoming per usual. It was very clean. The service itself was attentive, friendly, and fast. The same lady who is always working, was working this Saturday,I like her. She's always nice to us and my mom thinks she's the best. I'm mom loves this restaurant and she always wants to support them so when we get a chance we do come by to show some love now to the important part the food. Food was delicious. I actually started thinking to myself. How is this Restaurant not in the conversation in the best barbecue of the Central Coast? The tri-tip is delectable the brisket, his mouthwatering and the service is super good, so it is quite surprising to me. The only critique I could honestly give was the potatoes. My mom said that her scallop potatoes were still pretty hard. My potato salad was extremely hard, and I didn't mention the potato salad itself could use a little bit more sauce that might be personal preference and I do happen to make a mean potato salad so maybe I'm being a little overcritical, but my mom did kind of say the same thing so I think it's a fair critique. We had three meals (one was to go) they were all the same the combo platter, but there is different sites for everything as you see in the picture the potato salad, scalloped potatoes, steamed vegetables, french fries and baked beans were all of the things we had decided to try besides my mention of the potatoes, everything was delicious my mom is also mentioned that the macaroni and cheese is pretty darn good, but we didn't try it this time The french fries were out of this world. I wish I would've took a picture. They had some seasoning on there, but they were the bomb. You are definitely paying for the quality food you get as I mentioned we had three meals. My mom had a few glasses of wine. (3) I had a soft drink and a bottle of water and a tipped 20% and our bill was about 150 bucks. To be honest, preparing this meal at home would've been a lot more expensive with the different meat, selections and sides and not to mention the hours of prep that would've took and a good bottle of wine. We would've been well over $200 so me the value wasn't bad for not having to cook and getting some super good food . I feel bad I have it reviewed this place sooner because they deserve some good words written about them, they're doing good work. They have been open forever and that means something in today's economy to see local businesses staying open through these hard times please support them so they can continue to be open for their community... local or not you're doing a good thing by patronizing this establishment. On Instagram I saw they make a bbq pork or beef sandwich with a jelly filled donut as the bun called the "Jelly D" which looks ambrosial (check it out yourself on their Instagram. it wasn't on the menu that night so we spotted one of the owners (family run business) and chit-chatted him up and he said they would be featuring the Jelly D Sat 6/19 starting at 12pm at the Joyce Wine Company at 1 E Carmel Valley Rd, Carmel, Ca. so today, we are heading there to dive into the JELLY D and whatever else they have on their menu, because trust me, we are tasting it all! Will update later. Update: the Jelly D was simply Ambrosial (word of the day). We ordered both the brisket jelly D and the pork Jelly D. both were light, flavorful and delicious. Once you pick it up it's hard to put down. The pairing of the Jelly D with Joyce wine company's Gamay Noir wine was perfect match. Casas de Humo Barbecue turned out to be the best adventure of our Monterey weekend getaway that took us to amazing places we may not have ventured without them.
