I personally do not prefer American mass-produced bacon and would only use it in relatively meager amounts to add dimension to certain dishes I prepare. At times, I would just bard different cuts of meat but remove it at the end of cooking and leave it for others that prefer it. The types of bacon that I actually consume are either English or European bacon - thick succulent cuts from the back or neck (not the belly) that are never nuked to crisp. So I'm truly excited that Baker's Bacon opened a storefront in Marina where you can skip the online ordering process (their previous main method of distribution) and buy just the amount you need whenever you want during the week. I really like the story behind their company and fully agree that it has become a lot harder to procure high quality bacon with the right amounts of smoke and flavor. As such, I stopped by their store earlier today to purchase some English bacon as well as to see what else they carry. In addition to their signature bacons, the store also carries quality fresh cuts of meat, other cured meats like salame and soppressata, truffle oil and butter, as well as duck confit and bacon. Do check the place out and give some of their products a try and you'll see why I don't prefer American style bacon. This is just so much better.

Once again I am so pleased with my purchase. I had not planned on purchasing a chicken, but when I saw the gorgeous whole chicken in the display counter, I had to! A free range, responsibly raised, natural chicken that looked like, well a chicken! apparently it is a chicken that is used in the food delivery service of Blue Apron, only without having to commitment. The chicken ended up being approximately 4 pounds. Just right! And when I was prepping it for dinner I decided to give a bacon blanket. Now, this is the real deal chicken. As the lady said, people have told her it tasted like chicken should taste. And damn!! Excuse my language, it was so good. An hour and a half, 350 degrees, and wow! I even decided to eat the foot. Lol, because, did I mention it was a real chicken? Of course the bacon was delicious too. And with purchase of two packages, I got a package of back bacon for free. Freeee, lol, mmmm, a Canadian style ham bacon. This speciality store is a welcome addition to Marina. I look forward to buying a pork chop or steak next. If you need a special piece of meat. I say run here!! Cheers and happy yelping.

Every time we drive home from Monterey, I always see the big red Yelp sign that reads best BBQ…read more That sign did its' job and it got me intrigued and grabbed my attention. We finally got the chance to check it out. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The Prunedale Market is located along side the highway 101 freeway in the small town of Prunedale. It just takes a few long right turns to get there. Parking is easy and accessible out in the front parking lot. From the front, the market does not look like a popular BBQ spot. It looks like a simple small market store to grab quick snacks and drinks. Once inside there is a BBQ and deli section to your right. A small dining area is to your left. The decor is old fashioned and quaint. The 2 gentlemen greet you with friendly hospitality. We ordered the Tri tip sandwich, half slab of ribs which includes 2 potatoes and a cup of corn chowder. The pit master/owner Martin, who use to work for Original Joe's, was kind enough to also include a quarter chicken leg, a sausage, and extra ribs. It was so much food for our party of 3. Everything was delicious and hearty. The Tri tip sandwich was scrumptious with the flaming Fritos adding a nice crunchy texture and kick with every bite. The ribs were juicy and smokey. Potatoes complemented very well with the rest of the meat and chicken. Corn chowder was so tasty and creamy. I did not know corn chowder was that good. Overall we enjoyed our experience at the Prunedale Market. The staff were super nice and accommodating. They even offered for our son to grab some free ice cream to go. We politely declined. The prices were very reasonable. All that food fed us for the next 2 days. Lol. We hope to be back when we are in the area with other friends and family.

Now this place is a bit difficult to find, and they only take cash, but DAMN! What a find! And Martin, the owner, amazing. Had the tritip and he gave me sausage sampler, delicious! I've been seriously craving a…read moretraditional, no frills hot dog, and even though it was not on the menu, the staff went above and beyond. They were kind enough to sneak a couple onto the grill for us, which was an amazing gesture. The hot dogs were absolutely delicious, served on a high-quality bun shipped directly from the East Coast (the same ones they use for their Philly cheesesteaks). It was a fantastic, flavorful surprise. As you can see from the photo, my wife thoroughly enjoyed diving right into that massive foot-long! The service was top-notch, the food was spectacular (such great quality and flavor), and they truly care about their customers. We will absolutely be returning and highly recommend this spot to anyone in the Seaside area! Thank so much, its really a pleasure to find a crew that love their trade !

3.5 STARS HELLO,…read moreMEAT SWEATS! Escaping the 4th of July warzone in The City, we headed to Carmel for a quiet staycation. The Carmel food scene tends to be mid and overpriced so I was in search of more affordable, local gems in Seaside and Marina areas. And...TikTok brought me to The Meatery, a boutique butcher shop and eatery. BUTCHER SHOP Array of ethically sourced meats - amazing looking marbled steaks, pork, veal, and handcrafted sausages (Mmm, blood sausage and fermented garlic sausage!). They also have house-made sauces and spice blends, condiments, compound butters, duck fat, and more. There's even fresh dog food (e.g. beef sirloin, brown rice, and blueberries) which I bought for my dogs. EATERY Made-to-order sandwiches and BBQ (brisket, pulled pork, ribs, etc) in the hot case. House-made sides (potato salad, mac salad, and kimchi) are available in the cold case. Bottled drinks including beer available. You can order ahead online but we ordered in-person. Note: Check Toast for the most up-to-date prices; the online menu has the old prices. There's about 6 tables for dine-in. Self-serve water. Bus your own tables when finished. F O O D * 18 Hour Smoked Brisket Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/rceamucw - Requested mix of wet/moist and lean brisket A signature item, the brisket sandwich was sorely disappointing. While I enjoyed the fresh, soft bun, tangy cola-cola bbq sauce, and acidic pickled onions, the lean brisket was very dry and tough (at opening time). * Calamari Steak Po'Boy Sandwich ($18): https://tinyurl.com/yn7zsvz6 The unique coastal twist on a New Orleans classic sounded promising on paper. The sesame roll was light and fluffy, and the slaw had a delicious creamy tang. Unfortunately, the thin, fried calamari steak was dry and chewy, while the heavily salted breadcrumbs overwhelmed its delicate flavor. * Dino Beef Rib ($21.50/lb): https://tinyurl.com/j8dsxnvc Eyeing this on another table, we decided to order it after trying the sandwiches. Def the highlight of our meal - the beef rib was rich, tender, and deeply savory. Not overly fatty with a crispy bark. Light on the seasoning and smoke so the tangy BBQ sauce came through for a boost of flavor. * Wedge Fries ($8) Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the wedges were dusted with their house seasoning mix (savory w/ a touch of smoky flavor) and served with a side of their fermented chipotle ketchup. * Kimchi Cucumber ($7.50) A blend of napa cabbage and thinly sliced cucumbers, the kimchi was mild and tangy. The perfect acidic in-between bites. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly service. Food came out fast. Overall, maybe we visited on an off day for the eatery. I can see why The Meatery is a local fav for their butcher shop tho. I mean, if I lived nearby, I would be all over 'em sausages! P.S - 3.5 stars rounded up for a small business.
