Our family's Ford Explorer required a water pump replacement…read more I visited several local auto shops to obtain quotes and was shocked, disappointed, and discouraged at the prices I was being quoted for the work my vehicle required ($5,000-$7,500) Shame on me for not reading Yelp reviews before wasting my time visiting other auto shops. I read the many positive reviews for Hye-Tech Auto Repair and decided to visit them. Upon entering, I was greeted by John (owner) with a friendly, "Welcome, how may I help you?" I explained that my Ford Explorer needed a new water pump and a few other items that other auto shops had advised me would require repair or replacement. While John looked up a few items on the computer to provide me with a quote, he introduced me to his son, Harry, who happened to be in the office. Thirty seconds later, John provided a quote that was $3,500-$4,000 less than the other shops. I could not believe it. John explained that he makes his living and succeeds in his business through repeat customers, and he does not believe in gouging customers for every last penny. He also shared that when he retires, his son Harry will take over the business, and he wants to leave Harry with a solid foundation of loyal repeat customers. It was then that I knew I could trust John and his son Harry. John went on to explain that replacing the water pump on a Ford Explorer was a 10-12 hour job, as it was an internal pump requiring numerous engine parts to be removed to reach it. This was the same thing all the other shops advised me. John suggested that I leave my vehicle, and he would perform a full inspection of the engine and contact me before doing anything to it. I agreed and left my vehicle. The following day, I was contacted by John, who advised me that the water pump did indeed need to be replaced, as it was the source of the constant leaks of the water coolant. I left my vehicle in John's shop for three days. During this time, John or his son, Harry, contacted me numerous times to keep me updated on the progress of my vehicle and also to point out that mechanics had discovered two or three very inexpensive items (under $50.00) which they recommended replacing, which I agreed to have done. All in all, I was and am extremely impressed and satisfied with everything about this shop. I spent much less money to have five different issues repaired on my vehicle at Hye-Tech than what I was quoted to replace my water pump alone by every single shop I visited prior to coming to Hye-Tech. John and Harry are very friendly, honest, and trustworthy. They are also very knowledgeable and experienced, and they offer GREAT customer service and communication. This is my new go-to shop for any issues involving our family vehicles. Thank you, Hye-Tech Auto Repair, for a very positive experience.

It's nice to see you can get quotes at the touch of a button on your phone. This morning, I had time off, so I headed in to get my service done. I did not have an appointment and that did not seem to matter. I arrived first thing in the morning at 8 AM and ask if the service could be done. Harry was an exceptional young man, he took me in with no problems, no questions. He said they could do it this morning. I told him I would have to wait. He had no problem with that either. Prior to bring in the car in this morning, as I said, I used a yelp project and had several people reach out and give me quotes. After looking at all the yelp reviews I decided to give this place a try. I am super happy that I did. This place is a hidden gem, excellence, service, quality, and value for what you receive. There are not very many shops where you could feel comfortable and put your trust in them. As I spent time in the lobby, I was able to see customer service on the phone and customer service entering the facility. Every customer that walked in, seem satisfied and was treated with dignity and respect. I highly recommend this place if you have any automotive questions whatsoever.

They took a look at my car for free to identify the issue and they detected the leak to be coming from my engine and not my transmission. They showed me exactly what they were seeing, why they thought it was my engine and not my transmission, and offered to put a dye in my transmission fluid to ensure it was my engine and not my transmission. I drove my car for a week and took it back to double check, and sure enough it was my engine! Although they spent time and care on my car, they didn't charge me a single penny, even when I insisted to at least pay for the dye. They were able to refer me another mechanic to fix my engine leak and I was able to get my issue solved that same day. As a woman who is nervous to get work done on my car, I had an excellent time at El Monte Transmission. If you are having transmission troubles, please go to them :)

SERIOUS CONSUMER WARNING - DOCUMENTED TRANSMISSION TEARDOWN AFTER "REBUILD"…read more I brought my truck with its 4L80E transmission to this ATRA member shop for a full rebuild. The owner, Mr. Lee, stated he has 43 years of experience and that he personally performs all the rebuilds. I paid him $2,850 and supplied an additional estimated $1300 in quality brand new parts, which he inspected and agreed to install. For context, I have 20 years of experience working on vehicles and am a certified diesel mechanic. The main reason I brought the transmission to a shop was that I didn't have the space nor resources at the time to perform a full removal, installation, and rebuild myself. Communication was polite initially, and the owner appeared willing to work with the parts I supplied. He was also extremely fast and did the actual rebuild in half a day. The transmission failed three separate times within three weeks, requiring removal and reinstallation each time. After the third failure, I towed the truck home and completely disassembled it myself. During teardown and measurement, I documented multiple serious assembly and quality-control issues, including: -Wrong pump installed, despite being told no hard parts were changed -Intermediate clutch pack assembled with incorrect clutches, leaving clearance nearly three times outside specification (which can prevent the clutch from holding properly and lead to rapid failure) -Sun gear installed upside down, blocking a critical lubrication hole required to supply oil to internal components -Several worn bearings, steels, seals, and other components appeared not to have been replaced -Reverse band misadjusted to the point the output shaft would not rotate in any gear The FIRST failure was caused by a transmission fluid leak from an old 180k-mile pump bushing and seal that were not replaced. The SECOND failure was explained to me as transfer case and transmission cracking as soon as Mr. Lee shifted into Drive.. the shop claimed it was caused by my driveshaft despite it being the original factory driveshaft with new, unbound U-joints. The THIRD failure caused severe transmission overheating (never disclosed to me) during Mr. Lee's 5-mile test drive, with a claimed valve body diagnostic code that never appeared when I scanned the truck myself. Because this truck is critical for my cross-country towing work, I ultimately spent three months in very difficult circumstance personally performing a very slow but full transmission teardown in order to rebuild the transmission correctly. I have extensive photos and video documenting all findings of why this transmission had repeated failures in a span of three weeks. If proper assembly, reliability, and accountability matter to you, I strongly recommend choosing another shop.

This place has really changed. I don't know if they care about selling cars more than the customer…read moreservice they used to offer, but this placed has gone downhill. I dropped my car off here because it stalled on fwy. They offered to charge me around $360 to fix the issue. Then issue after issue came up they taxed a bunch of labor, and additional charges ome which took them 45 minutes to fix. As i was on my way back from work after being left at the shop for 2 days, they said it would be ready Saturday. I made it back home in 45 minutes and the repair was done. It went from $360 to $400-500, jumped an additional $300. They charge a "non cash charge" of $32.37 on top of all that. I would have left alone and called myself a sucker. But, my Bluetooth cell phone charger was also missing. I go there to pick it up and the owner tells me only him and one other mechanic worked on the car and that guy steals nothing. Surely enough it's the same mechanic who tried to upscale patching my tire at $25 when he charged my gf $12 (in front of me btw) and i told him you charged my gf $12, why $25 now? I ended up going to get patch kit for less than $10. They even crossed out $140 per hour for diagnostic charge and put $185. ‍I didn't know on top of all the misc. Charges, fees and labor costs that i would have to take inventory of the items in your car on top of all that. Go to an honest mechanic. This will be the last time i ever use their services. Stolen goods much? No thanks. After everything i have to go buy another bluetooth charger now. Because they don't know how it ended up stolen.

The first two times (read my earlier reviews), repairs were made, they threw in some extras (FOR FREE!!), and the cars run great! Also, the price was so much lower than others I thought they made a mistake. Nope, the price was correct and much less than others. This latest repair on 6/26/2026, was for my 2003 Honda Accord EX. The photo of the invoice will show all the repairs they made (water pump, timing belt, etc.) They also noticed other items and addressed, and did a free oil change! Crazy huh! When did you ever get anything free from a car repair shop, except a free headache when you get the bill! No headache from them. Excellent service. Terrific price. HONEST MECHANICS! Afterward, I confirmed with CHATGPT (artificial intelligence) what was done: price, repairs, etc. The answer was all good and verified they did everything they were supposed to do, along with a excellent price for the area. Although they don't have a tow service, Christina was able coordinate towing my truck to this shop where they rebuilt the tranny, transfer case, differentials, and replaced a couple of parts. World transmission is a family owned business with respectful people. David is very knowledgable and knows his craft. He went over the details of how my transmission worked and how to preserve its lifespan given that it's a 4x4. Christina is very professional and stands by her word. After I left I reviewed their work and noticed the dust shield on one my brakes was carving into the rotor. I phoned in and was asked to bring the truck back and within the hour of bringing it in, had the rotor replaced with a new one. Mind you that the differential was used so the dust shield may have been bent to begin with. But the important thing is that they didn't play the blame game. Instead they took responsibility and within the hour having brought in the truck, I was already driving off the lot with a brand new rotor. I am completely satisfied with the work and the amount that I paid for it. Truly worth the price. As Andre (see previous post) put it in his post, this is place has the best prices in town. Their prices are fair for the amount of work that needed to be done. The only downside in my opinion is that they have too much work and they don't open on weekends other than Saturday to return the cars. Thus the need to take time off of work to deal with all this. Overall though I can say that I will continue to service my truck here as well as brining my other 2 cars which may be long over due for some transmission service. Thank you Christina for your friendly smile, firm handshake, and professional services. -KC
