We have several trees on our property from Tropical Concept, actually some fun trees like the Maranga Tree (the tree of life) Kim explained the trees history. I got a stick about 30 inches tall, prepared the planting hole as I was told. 30 days we had tree. I cut branched (small) and then cut them to about three inches. She put them in the pressure cooker and we ended up with some great tea. Read up on the tree and others you might have questions about. You will get the straightest answer you could ask for. No forcing products off on you, but they will tell you the correct product to help this tree survive. What to avoid that people will try to sell you. They are verry honest people. read more

Hidden in between the urban buildings is this five acre nursery jungle. We went on a Saturday around the closing time. There were not many people but the owner of the nursery welcomed us and took us on a tour around the nursery. U name it and he has those tropical plants. Ranging from banana, mango, mulberry, guava, sapote, Moringa, bay leaf, curry leaf, sugar cane so on. We wanted to buy banana but their stock this year is hit due to pandemic. They generally get their plants from Florida. The man has tons of exotic rescue birds too like parakeets, macaw, white peacock, swans, ducks, turtles. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a lush in the center of the city. Mind u it's not your regular nursery where everything is arranged well, cleaned and presented to perfection. This is rather rustic, old school and feels like Costa Rica. The man shared his history, family and was pretty jovial. We bought ourselves a grapes vine and got home thinking this is what a farm land would be where the kids would enjoy with the chicks, eat the fruit off the trees and live a content life away from the stress and noise of the city. read more

I've been going to almost every nursery in and around Phoenix for awhile now to see their fruit tree selections and I gotta say this is leaps and bounds better than other nurseries I've been to when it comes to the variety of fruit trees, it's not easy finding quality tropical fruit trees in Arizona. The two people (husband and wife) there were so nice and helpful, plus they have a good selection of fruit trees so I had to buy one even though I only planned on looking around. As bad as it gets! I felt compelled to immediately write this review upon my 'interaction' with them. I called their 602.315.1966 number. A man picked up the phone and was clearly angerily talking to someone else...something about water and what the Hell you expect him to do, (a couple more curse words)...something like that. I decided right then and there that I didn't want to do business with a person that answers their phone like that so I hung up. AS I was hanging up, I then hear him cheerfuly say, "Hello!" He immediately called the number back, I answered by saying, 'Hello, this is _____". He obviously wasn't paying attention because he was carrying on talking to someone about getting water...blah, blah,blah as I listened. Then he says angerily, 'C'mon, answer your Damn phone!!' I said, are you speaking to me? He said, 'Oh, sorry, I was talking to a customer.' I said, 'If this is how you speak to your customers, I don't want to do business with you so please don't call me again.' In an ever growing game of seeing how quickly I can kill plants, I am attempting a few tropicals in the desert. When I heard about this place from a fellow fruit tree grower whom has had success, I made a point to visit here. Don't be fooled by the rough exterior and the dogs. Everyone...including the dogs...are sweet as can be. I met Dan and he walked me around the property on a sort of mini tour...including their tropical bird aviary rescue...and even treated me to some bananas grown on the property. They have an extensive inventory of all types of tropicals: mango, starfruit, Jamaican, Barbados, and Suriname cherry. Figs. sugarcane. Banana. And so much more. All sizes. They give you a great rundown of how to plant, how much sun or shade, water suggestions, and cold protection suggestions. I wound up getting an ice cream mango and a Turkish fig and both are putting on new growth 3 months later! These guys are really friendly and seem to know what they're doing. they've apparently been around a long time so listen to them and you can get it to grow here! read more

Such a quirky fun place. They make me want every tree out there because they have so many varieties and they're so knowledgeable about everything. Be careful, if you're passionate about fruit trees, you might end up chatting with them for an hour or more! They do accept credit cards now but I recommend paying cash. Can't wait to go back and get another tree... if I can find room somewhere in my yard! It is very tricky to find. Seems like every time I go there, I drive past it several times. Kim is great. She is so passionate and helpful. She's quirky and I don't mean that in any negative way - I respect her and her knowledge so much. When you walk in for the first time, she treats you as if she's known you for years. Both visits of mine resulted in a full property/yard tour including fruit tasting from her many trees. And she knows her stuff! I bought a young coconut crème mango from her and so far it is growing like a weed. Very excited to have this! Her selection is great. I love plants, trees, flowers, herbs...and needless to say I'm always on a lookout for awesome unique nurseries. Found this one on Yelp and I'm glad we decided to stop by. The outside, parking area looked a little strange and I had to convince hubby not to drive away and he was glad I did. This nursery is a local business. A couple owns it and they have turned a regular dirt lot into an awesome tropical nursery. They also live on the property and have taken in many stray dogs that now live a happy life there. The lady took time to show us around. Her tropical trees and plants are very impressive. I learned so much from her just in half an hour. She has banana, mango, and other tropical and unsual plants there so make sure to stop by and support this local business if you are in the area. read more

I only went there to browse the selection, I talked to an older man who I believe is the owner's husband. He out of the blue just started complaining about Shamus O'Leary's nursery and other nurseries in the valley. He takes pride in having the ability to "just put them in dirt and watch them grow", which is part of his claim that you don't need any "magic soil" or "magic dust". I was ready to head out at that point because it was immediately clear he isn't open minded about different ways to grow these plants and doesn't know what he's doing. He has a lot birds on site which I thought was different and kind of cool. The place was a complete dump though, really unpresentable and dirty with things everywhere. First things first - the trees here are absolutely beautiful and unique. Customer service: that's where the one star review comes in. I bought over $1500 worth of trees at this nursery along with compost and soil. When I called to inquire about what ratio to use the compost/purchased soil/native soil to plant these with the guy on the phone started yelling saying he was too busy to help. He ultimately told me to shut up and plant a 50/50 mix...which doesn't work when you have THREE components to plant with. Do you mean 30/30/30? Do you even know what you're talking about? I'm just trying to make sure I don't kill all these plants I just bought. The woman working there was very helpful - just don't deal with the older gentleman. The owners were kind and down to earth, giving us a tour of the paradise they created. It was inspiring and magical! The owners - Dan and Kim - are very helpful, patient, and easy to work with. They give great advice and suggestions, and have - as advertised - tropical and subtropical trees and plants...that they are growing successfully. When I say successfully, I mean the plants and trees are growing very well and healthy. They have banana, mango, guava, passion fruit, dragon fruit, blackberries, goji berries, blueberries, chinese cherries, fig trees, curry...and so many others I can't recall.
