I'll qualify my review below with the fact that I am extremely low maintenance, a bit frugal, and not a girly-girl at all. So if this is you, don't go here. I normally see someone else whom I like for a good price, but she was unavailable for awhile and I was on a time crunch. So ultimately this experience is on me. I should have figured out this place by the website. It's a pretty place that offers a ton of beauty things for women who like/ use that stuff. But a general shoulder-length kind of bob with face-framing layers should not cost $100. Also, after a few peppering questions, most hair dressers/ people figure out I'm not into chatting and I'm trying to nap. But the two women who helped me were bubbly and non-stop talkative. It is hard for me to find a stylist who understands my fine-but-kinda-thick wavy hair, and I usually end up with cuts that are meant for a different hair type. Well, Sheleen gets my hair! I asked for my first super short haircut, and she gave me one that fits my face so well. I've had many compliments, and I feel great! She also takes time to teach you how to work with your hair, which was so helpful to me. My daughter, who is 7, also wanted a new hair-do, some light layers, a trim, and some electric blue! Erika worked with my daughter, and gave her the most gorgeous color splashes that really compliment my daughter's eyes. Katie is wonderful, too! My daughter normally doesn't deal with her hair, won't let us, and ends up with crazy, matted knots. I wanted to inspire my daughter to take care of her hair, and I think being pampered by all these kind, beautiful ladies their really inspired her to keep brushing her hair! Haha Another thing about the place; not only do they really know what they're doing, but going to this salon is such a relaxing and pleasant experience. Sheleen and her team are amazing. 5 out of 5 stars. I had a complicated situation where I had another hair system installed, that I was very unhappy with and caused pain. It landed up hurting a lot and I was out of the country and took the system off. The glue was stuck on my head. Laura spent six hours taking the glue off, conditioning my system, styling it, treated my own hair. Sheleen and her team have great solutions for hair loss. I wish I had found them first! Im really excited because now I am going to try their invasblend hair system. If you are looking for solutions for thinning hair look no further. Im driving from San jose to them, its worth it. The salon is so welcoming and clean. Every stylist Ive met is friendly, kind and they all care about the integrity of your hair! Please give them a try! 10/10. read more

I love this place. They always have cute new things in the boutique and the girls are so fun and lovely. Today I got a keratin treatment on my hair and my hair is so soft and silky. While I was sitting in the chair I was looking out the window at the beautiful trees and the people walking down Monterey Boulevard having a good time. The reason why I give this place a 3 star is because of the price, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone on a budget. I do not recommend A Visionary Salon for hair loss services. As someone who is extremely self conscious of my alopecia and has looked at many options, I was very intrigued by the Micropoint system. Sheleen and Erika were very easy to communicate with at first, but when the rubber meets the road I feel I was taken advantage of. My hair loss consultation was not what is advertised on their website. There was no scoping of my scalp, or even touching of my hair/head which should have tipped me off, but I really wanted to believe this salon had a vested interest in hair loss solutions. I paid the expensive cost for Micropoint and was left with what look like little bugs in my hair. Upon leaving the salon my hair was fluffed to essentially disguise what I came home to (see photos). Upon reaching out to the salon they were 'sorry I was disappointed', and think something was wrong with the product, but conveniently can't seem to schedule a time for me to come back in with said defective product. I am now out a ton of money, have to wear my hair a certain way to disguise the stupid little knots (which is literally the opposite of the goal of micropoint) and feel worse about my alopecia and being so gullible. read more

The Salon: Do not let the address fool you, from the outside, it's a family home, but stepping in this is a salon. Your hair and beauty needs are in the right hands at this cozy place.. This is defiantly a place that knows their product, color, style & cut. Clearly these ladies have a following and it shows by the great reviews they have. This place is sassy and the atmosphere is friendly. It reminds me of when beauty parlors were social headquarters, where women sat in a row of hair dryers flipping through magazines and idly chatting with their stylists. The Stylist: I found my hair color stylist and I won't let her go. I have curly hair and it gets frizzy. Finding someone that can cut my hair without messing up has been a challenge. I have been to a couple of salons this year and I have left very disappointed. I had the pleasure of having my color done by Josette I showed her what color I would like to achieve and looked at it once told me exactly what she was going to do which was: balayage. I was nervous at first but my hair came out amazing. Josette knows her hair color and is confident and competent in what she does. She also gave me a deep condition in my hair which smelled awesome. Wish Yelp would allow me to select a half star for A Visionary Salon. Before I go ahead let me tell me you guys that I have had an email exchange with Sheleen (the owner) where I informed her that I would be writing her business a Yelp review. She took it as me trying to threaten her with a Yelp review and offered me a settlement amount so I do not write anything on Social Media which I declined because it was against my principles. So here goes my review and my bad experience with this business: Bad things first: 1) I was enrolled in the Micropoint program and Sheleen suddenly started charging me for haircuts from my 3rd visit. This showed lack of consistency in their visits and not telling about additional charges upfront. 2) In one of my visits, one of their barbers (Josette), applied more Micropoint strands than she should have. They had the audacity to take the extra strands out of my Micropoint balance with them, where they should have just given it to me for free because it was their mistake to apply the additional strands. For example lets say a customer has $100 worth of McDonalds balance and for small fries which the customer orders, $5 is deduced from the balance. This takes the balance to $95. Now accidentally McDonalds gives you medium fries. I would not expect McDonalds to take my balance card and deduct more money out of my account for their honest mistake. 3) Sheleen and Josette have major inconsistencies in the math for Micropoint sticks. How many strands a particular colored stick has v/s the other. Each person has their own numbers and does their own math. There is a huge lack of transparency, consistency and documentation. 4) My frank opinion about Micropoint was good to begin with. However I felt I was losing more hair while on the program and the joint areas felt like small little dots when you would run your fingers through the scalp. 5) After a few of my visits Sheleen told me about another product, Invisablend. I started researching on Invisablend and contacted the company who was ready to give me their product for a huge discount. When I told Sheleen about this, she got majorly upset and told me that if I buy it directly from the company, she would not assist me in monthly installations. Furthermore, she contacted the CEO of Invisablend (~Dino) and dont know what she said to him, but Invisablend started ignoring me from there on and asked me to deal with Sheleen if I needed their product. 6) Because I started disliking Micropoint as time progressed, I wanted a refund on the unused services which I paid for upfront. Sheleen rejected my proposal for the refund. 7) Josette is the worst men's barber I have experienced. I started feeling that all they care about is extracting money from me (as much as possible) without caring for my hair. Good things: 1) Sheleen is a better than average barbers you would find in the bay area. 2) The receptionist Katie is nice and welcoming. read more

Found out about this salon via a Living Social deal. Had my hair done about 3 weeks ago, but waited to cool off and really think about how I was going to write this review. LOCATION: To all of those that are surprised to find it is a home salon, that is true, but it really is a great set up. Very well decorated with a good layout, you can easily forget while you're in there that it's a home salon; there are no kids running around, you don't walk into this person's house, you walk into the salon. It was very well done. STYLIST: The stylist offering the deal is Josette Renee. I called to make an appointment, and left a voicemail. All communication after that was via text. I don't mind, but it would be nice to speak with someone as an initial form of communication. When I met her in person, she was very nice and sweet. But there were some things (detailed below in "experience") that were some major character flaws. EXPERIENCE: I got there and Josette was the only person there, so we got to talking about what I wanted done. We looked at some pictures online, she was trying to explain the difference between balayage vs ombre and we ended up going with balayage. She got to work. She was not very talkative, which is fine, but she did take quite a few personal calls during our session. At one point, a family member stopped by and was helping her out with different "chores" around the salon. She spoke with this family member quite a bit while working on my hair (at some points bickering with them), and I think it may have distracted her from paying closer attention to some of the details of my hair styling. THE END PRODUCT: At first I was pleased. Wasn't quite what I had expected; especially since I had gone in looking for ombre, but agreed to go with balayage instead. The cut (just a trim) was nice and the blow out looked great. After a few days, I notice that my hair just looked bland. I guess I was expecting something a little bit more drastic. I also began to notice that there were strips of hair that were bleached, that did not get any toner (leaving these strips of bright bleached hair). I think if the stylist had been a little bit more focused on what was being done (and not taking call after call on her cell phone and interacting with her family member that came in) she could have done a better job. All in all my experience here with this stylist was just ok. I probably won't return here; I'm already looking for another stylist to help me fix the problems. Glad I didn't pay full price for my service, but a little bummed I paid what I did only to have to go get it redone. read more

Update - I received a message here on yelp from the business owner who read my review and wanted to make things right. I made an appointment to get my hair lightened. I arrived last night and was not sure what to expect being as this is a home salon. Well I walked in the door and was so surprised at how well done the salon was. It was cozy and clean, and set up very nicely. I met Shaleen and showed her a few pictures of how I wanted my hair to look. I wanted to go from brown to dirty blond. She suggested highlights. My hair is really long, so the service took quite a long time. After my hair being highlighted, washed, blow dried, and straightened I looked in the mirror and was blown away! It looked great! I think I have found my new go-to place for my hair. Shaleen and Katie were both very kind and professional and make my hair look great. I felt like a million bucks when I walked out. read more

I am totally hair-phobic. I don't like getting it cut (no idea why) or dyed and I don't fuss much with it. Before I visited A Visionary Salon two days ago I had gone at least two years - possibly longer, I don't really keep track - without so much as a trim. My hair was long enough to sit on and split-ending like crazy, so I knew I had to do something. A Visionary Salon is currently undergoing renovations, so I'm not going to comment much on the layout. It's operated out of the home of the owner, Sheleen, but was pretty easy to find. My hair was cut by Mikelle, and she is a fabulous stylist. She made me feel very at ease, and listened to my concerns. (I didn't know specifically what I wanted to do with my hair, but I wanted to keep it long, give it definition to make it more "interesting," and I wanted a low maintenance style because I'm lazy. Oh so very lazy.) She told me what she was doing every step of the way, so I was never left wondering whether I was going to end up with something I hated. If I expressed a concern she was quick to adjust. She was chatty and fun to talk to, but when I started zoning out (sitting still always puts me to sleep) she just let me space out and think about nothing and that was fabulous, too. I've never had a hair stylist who was that sensitive to a customer's worries and needs. Another thing I really appreciated about both Sheleen and Mikelle is they told me exactly what products they were putting in my hair and how to use it, but they didn't pressure me to buy anything that day. That's great, and I wish more places would lay off the high-pressure sales tactics. Both women were quite knowledgeable, and just by listening to them talk with each other and Sheleen's client I learned a lot about hair extensions and styling techniques. If I ever feel the need to add extensions I would feel fully confident that they know what they're doing! When I left that day I had lost eight inches of hair and my fear of hair salons. Though the services/products are somewhat pricey, everything is extremely good quality (they have a great selection of hair pieces and styling products) and I had a fun experience that left me feeling beautiful; there's no price I wouldn't pay for the confidence I felt when I left. What an incredible experience. For starters, A Visionary Salon is VERY welcoming and acommodating. Everyone there has been awesome. The consultation was informative and personalized. I have been going to A visionary salon for quite some time now and I must say that Mikelle is my favorite stylist to date. I have thin-ish hair which is a mystery to some stylists but Mikelle fixed me right up with a color, cut and style. She is very easy to talk to as a stylist and I told her how frustrating past experiences have been. One thing in particular is how much I HATE going to a stylist and they make my hair look amazing, then I wash it and have no idea how to style it again! She walked me through how to style my own hair and pointed out some products that would help with my thin hair. Their customer service is great and they really care about their clientele. This place is amazing! First off the salon itself is amazing I mean it's so relaxing there and you don't smell bleach in the salon it smells so good I'm so happy and will definitely be going back!!!! Kelly is the master genius who did my hair and she did an incredible job I'm referring her to everyone. She deserves an award for what she did to my hair. My hair honestly has never looked better! I get compliments upon compliments on the color. She's been doing hair for over 25 years so she knows what she's doing. She was so sweet and generous to not only me but my husband too. I went to her in hopes to be blonde again after I had colored my own hair with a box dye first and then colored it again black at another salon. I explained to her that I wanted to keep the length as much as I could as well as keeping it healthy. I was amazed at the fact that she listened to everything I was saying. She made it her mission to make sure we kept my hair as long and healthy as possible. She first did a strand test to see how light we would be able to go without damaging it and to my surprise she was able to get me back to blonde in one session. She is amazing I cannot say that enough! She used olaplex in my hair and she foiled my hair in small sections. I really appreciated her taking her time to on top of everything else. She made sure that she got me satisfied. She is once again amazing and I recommend her highly and the salon to everyone. Worst stylist I have ever had...and I have had some pretty bad ones but Josette is one of the worst. She is a very nice person to talk to but she is awful with hair. I found her through a groupon and I regret going because she didn't let me finish talking when I was explaining the hair color I wanted which resulted in very ugly and streaky highlights so I had to go back. In my past experiences, if you don't like the way your hair color turned out the salon either tones it or adds a few of the missing highlights free of charge but Jossette charged me extra. On top of that she is horrible at cutting hair. My hair was all choppy and it looked like a kid had snipped chunks out of my hair and it was very obvious when my hair was straight. I went back again to get my hair cut fixed so overall save yourself the hassle and just don't put your appointment with Jossette. I can't speak on the other stylists because she was the only one that was there and that I interacted with. Every time I look at my hair I am reminded at the horrible job she did and I haven't had time to go get it fixed at a different salon. Even when I went back to get the color fixed, when I got home and straightened it you can see the dark line of where my old highlights were and then above it where she added the highlights. She doesn't understand how to do color but maybe she was just rushing it with me...and the way she works is obviously messy otherwise she wouldn't have made so many mistakes with mine :( read more

PLEASE READ I went to this Salon and asked stylist Josette for balayage, what I came out with was orange highlights. I am on the verge of tears every time I look at my hair. I attempted to call the main # but there is no answer, I wanted to speak to someone to try and get my hair fixed. I showed my stylist a picture and everyone that has seen my hair has asked why I got highlights instead. It had been 10years since I dyed my hair and now I don't know how to get it fixed. I found Josette on Groupon and, wow, what a great gem! She really knows hair and fixed my long, highlighted hair up nicely when I was just about ready to cut a few inches off 'cuz I couldn't stand my scraggly hair any longer. Josette gave me the cut and color I want and need, in addition to making some great suggestions on toning my hair if it gets brassy (as my hair often does) in between treatments. Sheleen and her team are the best! I've been going to A Visionary Salon for over 10 yrs. and have never had a bad experience. I change my hairstyle almost every visit and often ask Sheleen for advice on the color and cut, and she's never steered me wrong. I walk out of her Salon happy every time. My visit this week was a perfect example of the excellent service Sheleen and her team provides her clients. I came in for my appointment without planning my hairstyle and color ahead of time and trusted Sheleen would help me to decide what would be best. Right away, I noticed her assistant Kelly's hair and thought I would really love her style and color. To make a long story short, Sheleen and team (Katie and Kelly) came through with flying colors, and all while we had nice, friendly conversation.
