Stephanie is the only stylist who has touched my head in well over a decade! She is the best!! While my hairstyle has basically stayed the same, I have done lots of different things with colors and highlights. Steph is fantastic both with her ideas and her skills! She is always willing to try new things upon request, but is honest about what she feels will and won't work on me. I totally appreciate that! My two teenaged girls love her too, and have been going to her since they were in elementary school. The ambience of the salon is casual and comfortable, but trendy and modern as well. The stylists are all friendly with one another and interact like a family. It is a fun place to be! I have referred various friends to Shear Color over the years and will continue to do so. Tuck in guys, this is going to be a long one. I hate salons. I know some people see it as a "pampering" type of experience and if you do, that's great. But with 36+ inches of 3C curls, I had tried going to salons a few times before and I knew that whatever I decided to do to my hair would be a long, tedious experience and why on earth would I want to go somewhere to dye my hair when I could just do it at home??? Until I (stupidly) decided to dye my hair black-- and then (stupidly) decided to bleach the black out. I wish I had a better "before" picture but suffice to say, it looked horrible. Like, really bad. To the point where I had to swallow my pride and admit that it was time to let a professional take care of it. I looked around for someone who would take me and they all told me the same thing-- they weren't comfortable touching my hair (can you believe it??). Then, I talked to Erika. Admittedly, I didn't completely disclose everything that had gone into making my hair what it was but I sent her pictures of my hot mess and she agreed to take me. I can't even begin to describe how amazing Erika is.She told me very early on that she would "make me look like a movie star" and she completely held to her word. I feel completely confident and utterly amazing-- I know it's cheesy but I feel like a movie star...even in my pajamas....even with no make-up...in public! She put an astounding amount of work and time into not just fixing the damage I had done to my hair but making sure that it was absolutely, perfectly beautiful and making sure that I felt absolutely, perfectly beautiful with it. And oh! I do, I so do! I can't stop looking at it-- and believe me, I'm not the type of person to stop in front of a mirror. And to touch it! For all of the trauma it's been through, it's still so incredibly soft! Erika really is an incredibly talented artist. I always wondered how people spent so much money on hair but I completely believe that it was worth every single freaking penny and if I had to do it again, I would. So, just for her, this place deserves every star that I'm giving it. I am recommending her to every girl I know who is sort of happy with their hair but not completely satisfied-- trust this woman with your hair and she will make sure you come out feeling wonderful. read more

I was a hot mess when I walked in! Blond Roots so far out! Oh it was bad and I'm so glad Patty Ann did my hair! I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she got what I wanted right straight to the T! I went from blond to burnette with a tint of red. It was awesome. She also LISTENED when I explained to her "im trying to grow my hair out so I dont want to cut it! But she just trimmed it the tiniest bit, that made a huge difference and she still managed to keep the length! Most of the time you tell that to a hair dresser they dont listen and you walk out with your hair so much shorter. But yes finally a hairdresser who listens to your wants and needs! I'm only reviewing 4 stars since I've been there only once, but I am hoping the next couple times secures a 5 star rating! I had been to 4 other colorists in the past few years, one "famous" salon in Morgan Hill who claims to have the best colorists and best color available that wouldn't leave my hair yellow....they failed, I came out with brassy yellow hair, again. Despite my warning to them that my hair always gets brassy! They were overconfident, and I was overcharged. After 4 months of box coloring, I needed to try again, onto Shear Color to try their yelp special.... I saw Allison and told her the story of my hair color woes, she said she had a solution...oh how I've heard this before! But what did I have to lose. 1 hour later, I was amazed! My hair was not yellow! She did a combo of bleach and lowlights and the hues worked perfectly to create the right shade of blond/brown. Exactly what I was looking for!!!! It was not rocket science, she just listened and knew how to color my hair to give the results I wanted. And really, the prices are reasonable...any salon will be $70 - $150 depending on how trendy they are. This salon is not out of line with their pricing, the atmosphere is more than acceptable and Allison was friendly! read more

This place went through a partial makeover in 2011 and then they gave up. It has gone from the Toyota of salons to the used, salvaged Yugo of salons. It's not a relaxing visit. The laundry machines are right in the middle of the salon, there's a constant layer of dirt, dust, and grime, the sinks and chairs are cheap and uncomfortable, the hair dryers look like they came from Goodwill circa 1960. They rarely have beverages to offer. Every way they can cut corners, they do -- but they still charge market price. The hair coloing product they use is okay but not organic or too healthy for your hair. The stylists are like real housewives of Morgan Hill, loud screaming across the floor, sloppy (at least they are not drunk). As a result of this careless environment, the style that you get is serviceable but absolutely not worth $100 for a color. They should charge 1980s prices for the 1980s environment. I found a lot better place for the same price, in a relaxing, beautiful, spa like environment right here in Morgan Hill. read more

OK, I feel a little strange reviewing a hair place but my 14 year old daughter decided she wanted hair extensions for her birthday ( OY!) I know, too young and all that stuff but I am a complete pushover when it comes to my daughters. Of course, my 9 year old had to be included so we set up a haircut/style for her at the same time. First, once I got over the sticker shock of the $$ for extensions, I was able to watch Stephanie perform her magic and I was amazed at the time and care that went in to her work. At the same time, Michele was cutting and styling mu 9 year old's hair. This review is for Erika Meszaros for Keratin treatment. She is a miracle worker! I have curly frizzy hair that can take up to 45 minutes to dry and flat iron. With the keratin treatment it cuts my time to 15 minutes. Also prevents frizzes from the outside elements. This is my 7th or 8th time getting the treatment and I absolutely love it. Janine Moreno has been doing my hair for many years and I always get compliments on both the color and the cut . I have my nails done by Danette Massa there and I also have my brows waxed there as well. They sell really great hair products as well as carrying a nice line of jewelry, custom designed t-shirts, and purses. All the stylists are super friendly and it's a great place to unwind , share laughter, and leave feeling really good about yourself.
