I have been meaning to write a review here since December 2019, when they replaced the engine in my car. They did a FANTASTIC job finding a new engine for me and helping me with the re-titling process. Like, beyond what was expected or necessary. They were beyond supportive, and even detailed my car for free because they knew what a hardship going without the car for three weeks was. I couldn't recommend them enough--especially Billy. The people who work here are straightforward and you don't feel like they're trying to sell you anything. I had an oil change at my dealership and they screwed up so I ended up stalled in the middle of an intersection. I was towed to this location and they fixed the problem free of charge and went back over what my dealership did and checked for other problems. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is that they didn't call me when my car was ready and while they were nice and cool, I have had better interactions with auto repair place employees. These guys already have awesome reviews, but I want to show my support for them anyway. Every time I go here, I leave satisfied, which is pretty unusual dealing with mechanics. They are simply honest, something that is hard to come by in the world of mechanics (in my opinion). I had a flat tire the other day and dropped my car off that night. The next morning, before 9am, it was ready to go and it only cost $22! You can drop your car off anytime and pick it up anytime, just have to get the receipt & keys through the gas station attendant, who is really nice. read more

I joined Yelp just so I could write a review for A-Z. I've been taking my car here for the last few years and the service I've received has been right in line with the glowing reviewers here and elsewhere - the work is thorough, someone (usually Sparky) always calls with a quote before beginning work, the timing is fast, they don't suggest unnecessary work and when they do something they do it well. I just picked my car up after a problem with a window. The window had been repaired by A-Z a few months ago and I was annoyed that it broke so soon after, but I didn't know if there was any relation between the current malfunction and previous work or if it was just a fluke. When I picked up my beloved car tonight, without asking, they told me they weren't charging me for the new work. Amazing. Time and time again, these guys have earned my trust. Took my car in because it was making a funny noise, thought it was a belt which is not covered by my power train warranty. A-Z quickly diagnosed the problem as something that should be covered by warranty. Didn't charge me a dime and saved me a lot of money by being honest and sending me to the dealer. I'm very impressed with A-Z auto center. I returned to Boston after a 25 year absence with my 2003 Nissan Murano. I was referred to A-Z by a professor at BU who uses them for repairs. I brought the car in with my usual typed list of problems and items I wanted checked as well as a request to make sure the vehicle was ready for Winter, since the car was shipped from HI. Everyone I spoke with A-Z was professional and knowledgeable. Billy called me and spent at least 20 minutes discussing what required repair and what could wait. Twice there was a question and he put me on hold and asked the mechanic instead of having to call me back. I felt the labor and part rates were reasonable and fair. A problem with the engine after starting was diagnosed correctly as the battery that needed to be replaced, even though the check engine light reported a more complex and costly problem. read more

I have been taking my car here over the past couple of years and have nothing but wonderful experiences. Monday my car died half way in the street on Commonwealth Ave and AAA said it would take 2 hours to get a tow truck to come, when I called A-Z to let them know I would be bringing my car, Billy (the owner I believe) called his tow truck and they came to get me in under 1/2 an hour which was much appreciated. I brought my car back today for some brake work and once I got home I realized I left my keys and blackberry in my car (very very frustrating!), so I took the T back up to the shop and after getting them one of the employees (who towed me a couple nights prior) offered to give me a ride home since it was so cold and I just missed the T. I feel that in my experiences with this shop they have shown exemplary customer service that goes above and beyond most of my customer service experiences. There service is consistently excellent, which you rarely find. They are very accommodating to my hectic work schedule, I never have to follow up with them on the status of my car, if they say they will call in the morning they always call! They are informative and are honest (and they answer my 9 million questions!), I never feel like I am getting "taken". My father is very good with cars but lives a few hours away, when I was last home and he was fixing something for me he commented that the work they did on my back tires/breaks was excellent and of very high quality. Also, every time I have work done I run the price quotes by him and he has found them to be fair and reasonable. I would definitely give these guys 10 stars if I could! I know nothing about cars and they could not have been more friendly and helpful and made me feel more comfortable. The locks and window buttons weren't working on my car, so they fixed that while I waited (took 1-1.5 hours) and also checked the oil. I moved here from Mobile, Alabama and have used the same company my entire life to fix my car. A-Z is right around the corner from where I live so when my car had trouble I brought it to them. I wish they had been in Alabama! They are so awesome, broke everything down for me, expained everything in detal, showed me what needed to be fixed immediately and what could be done later in order to avoid a huge bill. When something unexpected was found in my car and was going to take longer than I was told, they even let me borrow their car, put gas in it, and all for free. If you know in advance that they will have your car for a few days they have rental cars for around $30/day (maybe even cheaper but my memory is foggy.) The customer service is awesome, Fred is hysterical (as well as has the most wicked awesome name for a car guy) and everyone is so nice! DEFINITELY USE THEM! read more

I continue to use A-Z exclusively for all my auto needs despite having moved to the South Shore a year ago. I had heard of this happening from other patrons. It always impressed me and now I understand why so many keep returning despite the distance. Over time, the service here continues to impress. Recently, I began to hear a strange noise in the back end of my car that only happened from time to time. As always seems to be the case with my car, I knew the noise would be hard to duplicate on purpose and therefore difficult to repair. Thankfully, the guys have grown to trust me and on the third ride out found the culprit of the noise. Jean fixed my car and I swear it runs better now than when it was running before the noise! I selected A-Z for my husbands Nissan Pathfinder after receiving an extremely high quote from the dealership for replacement of shocks and struts. We dropped off the car for a free assessment and the quote was very competitive, about 40% less than the dealer. We worked with Billy, who was very customer service oriented, and had the car back to us in only 2 days including a full detail. It's a service center attached to a gas station, which I was initially hesitant of, but they were great to deal with and most importantly the car runs great! Only reason for docking a star is that they misjudged one of the issues on my car. A rust spot turned out to be a little more serious than they initially thought. This is my first review ever on the internet, so, you would save yourself a lot of trouble if you close that facebook tab and continue reading. I moved to Boston from Michigan in winter. It only took 1-2 weeks for me to find out that I have moved into temple of the doomed. The freaking over-regulated and expensive Boston drove me crazy. My only car expense in Michigan was gas and the $55/year I paid for registration of my custom plate, which beared my wife's name. In Boston, I had to change tires($800), transfer my license($225), and get a new vanilla plate and registration($125), which made my wife think that I don't love her anymore. The $29 state inspection was the last punch to make me literally bankrupt, so, I took my car to A-Z and had it inspected. Stupid RMV lady had not given me the sticker to put on my plate, so, I was rightfully failed. I went to RMV and the lady at the front threw(literally) a red sticker with "15" to me without apologizing for the fact that I had to take a day off to get what they should have given me the first time. I took the sticker back to A-Z Auto and they were very apologetic for the whole hassle and sped up the process so that I don't have to wait long. I finally got the "pass" inspection and can now drive to work without getting pulled over at every intersection. I brought my car for an engine oil change after reading the wonderful reviews, and I was not disappointed at all! Billy was extremely organized and meticulous even though he was dealing so many things going on in the shop (and phone calls) at the same time. I am impressed how he can be so composed and patient when speaking to every single customer and at no point he was showing any frustration. Even though I had asked for a general check of the car, they were very professional and did a thorough examination to make sure that safety is not compromised in any way. And Billy took the effort to explain each check that they did to me clearly (and showing them to me, physically). Finally, I am so thankful that Billy and his guys stayed back after office hours on a Friday just to ensure that every single part of my car was as best as it could be - they did not compromise on the quality of the service or ask me to come back on the next day so that they could leave on time. Went in with a radiator leak; which got fixed in a timely manner under the price they quoted. For this they did a great job. Was concerned over the $30 per gallon for 2 gallons of antifreeze for a car that dry take 7.8 quarts (1 gallon antifreeze & 1 gallon water). Perhaps they are using a very expensive product? They also quoted replacing the air filters, replacing the water pump, and replacing the timing belt? Believe they were using the car in as an opportunity to check things for us. We called to ask about the water pump they stated that "it was leaking and with a new radiator and cap the leak will get worse". Miles later the pump still isn't leaking. So not sure of the disconnect on this. Overall they did what we asked in the time and under the quoted cost. Just wish the water pump discussion was clearer. read more

Avoid A-Z Service aka Econo Gas on Comm ave. My family used to be regular customers of theirs because they would give us repeat customer rates. Recently I had a new clutch put in my car by them. They quoted me at $750, but the actual bill was $1,100. Then, as I was pulling out of the shop, another tech came running up and said "Hey, I just noticed that your oil is leaking, we can replace the $3 gasket for $20." Then he billed me another $100 for that job! Screw everything about that! We've tried getting in touch with Billy, the boss who gave us the quote, but he is unreachable.. They have since lost our business and referrals. However, I will say this. If you are willing to pay top dollar for quality repair, they do very good work. It is just their customer service that sucks ass. read more
