I always come to BFM for car repairs. I trust them and they do amazing work. Recently a woman hit us in a crash, and damaged my car, although it was just cosmetic. Khalil handled everything! The insurance quoted too low for the repairs and he submitted the supplemental report. Once that was approved, he got the repairs done quickly. He always addresses all of my questions and concerns. He is a great communicator and leaves me a voicemail update when I can't answer the phone. Khalil and his team are the best!! I brought my Toyota Prius to Foreign Motors after the car stopped turning on. I was charged $300 for diagnostics. Afterward, I learned from Herb Chambers Toyota of Boston that my issue was connected to a recall and that the repair would be covered at no charge by Toyota. When I informed Foreign Motors, I was told that my car was moved to their other location but not to worry because they had a friend at Toyota who would handle getting the recall work done once they towed the car there. Later, when I contacted Toyota directly to confirm whether my car had arrived, the owner of Foreign Motors became upset and told me I needed to trust him and that I was damaging his relationship with his contact at Toyota. This left me with the impression that they may have initially been attempting to repair the issue themselves and charge me for work that ultimately should have been covered under the recall, although I cannot say that for certain. The entire experience left me uncomfortable and concerned about transparency and communication. To be fair, they did help coordinate getting the car to Toyota, but based on my experience, I would encourage customers to independently verify recall coverage and repair details directly with the dealership before agreeing to major repair costs. read more

These guys are great! I was hit by another driver this summer. And Brookline Foreign Motors was recommended to my by auto repair shop (TNT in Belmont, who does not do auto body repair). They did a great job and were super courteous. I did need to go back when my horn wasn't working and they fit me right in the next day and took care of it in a reasonable amount of time. But before I left, I was asked if there were any other issues that they should know about and they went over the car thoroughly. Brought my 2012 BMW 535 X Drive in for new tires, alignment, new wipers, and a check on what was causing a smoky smell when running the heat. I looked it up beforehand and suspected a leaky gasket, which Khalil confirmed. He found two leaks and offered to only repair the bigger one to save me some money on labor (the other one was deeper under the hood and would take more time to get to), but I opted to fix both as it was important to me to have the car running as well as possible mechanically. Nonetheless, I appreciated his effort to try to save me some money. I ended up also getting a color correction which made some big/deep scratches much less noticeable and car look great overall, as well as an oil change and oil filter change. Oh, and he also did my state inspection for me (talk about convenient). In summary: 1. Prices were fair, not cheap (this is to be expected for a BMW) 2. Work was done well (car is driving like a dream with the new tires and alignment) 3. Work was done quickly (took about 3 days total) 4. Khalil is a great guy I'm not surprised at all that the overall rating on this place is so high at 4.5 stars. Boston Prius owners - I recommend this shop for serious repairs. My 2005 Prius with 175,000 miles had started shaking badly and all engine cylinders were misfiring, according to a code reader. After an inspection they quoted the repair at about 40% of the value of the car. I had three options: (1) proceed; (2) get a second opinion at the Toyota dealer or somewhere else, for about another $200; or (3) sell the car. I just have one data point but I don't know where the few vague negative reviews are coming from. Kalil, the shop manager/owner, did everything right... over the phone, he explained how he had pinpointed the problem (he had tested my fuel injectors and found they were all malfunctioning, even though they looked fine from the outside; the surrounding assembly was damaged as a result). This convinced me that he was knowledgable and sincere when he assured me he was "100% confident" that he could fix it and "guarantee another 30-40k miles on the car, which is otherwise in good shape." Three days later, they had replaced my fuel injector rail, all four fuel injectors and spark plugs, and a few other related parts (including new air filters, oil, and the initial inspection) for a bit less than the original quote. I've driven 1,200 miles before writing this review and I have no complaints. I feel affirmed that my trust is better placed in a local, high-quality shop like this one, than the big Toyota dealer next door. read more

Overpriced and not professional. last Year they charge me over $1900 to have a new part to fix my car air-condition. which is broke couple of months later. The other shop I went to recently told me to go check the expiration date if it is still on guarantee. .. this place told me it is already expired of course but the problem is only small problem they can fix it easily and they charge me over $300 for few minutes .fix the problem for half day, then broke again. Brought my car for repairs in the suspension and exhaust system, and picked it up worse, and dirtier, than it was initially. It's astounding how such an overpriced repair shop cannot even get themsleves some plain seat and floor covers. I had to go to another repair shop because the car suddenly started leaking coolant and they were shocked by the poor quality of the work done at Brookline Foreign Motors. These people are dishonest, will rip you off with a smile, and will gaslight you if you complain publicly. When they lack the expertize and competence to do certain repairs they will just make things up and replace parts that do not need replacing, while failing to address the real issues. This post cost me $600 and an aggressive call from this business, so beware! I have literally never left a bad yelp review, but my experience was so poor that I felt it necessary. I am not getting paid to say this, I am actually sacrificing a refund to stand by it. Also, providing this type of feedback certainly me in an uncomfortable position. Instead of taking them up on their telephone offer to reimburse me some (or possibly all) of my $600 bill, it was more important to maintain my feedback and ethics. I don't doubt that others may have had positive experiences and that they know what they are doing as mechanics. But for no other reason than knowing how important it is to have honest insights into a business where trust is paramount and you will likely spend a lot of money, I felt the need to share my unfiltered, unbiased experience. 1 and 5 stars for most reviews, along with their response to my review which attempts to shift blame to the customer, tells me that their strength is not in transparency and customer service, but rather in managing their on-line image. I miss Fred. Brought my older Subaru for a big service (including 4 new tires) and they did a lot of work including a major maintenance. Khalil said it was a brand new car and good for another 40000 miles. Trouble is the car ran worse than before I had brought it in, with new noises. On top of that the tires had ongoing slow leaks. When I brought the car in with these new complaints, Khalil charged me for another diagnostic fee (later waived after I complained), stating that they couldn't find the problem, and for sealant for the tires (which didn't take care of the problem). I have lost my confidence in this repair shop. All I can say is that if you have an older Subaru bring your car elsewhere. read more

They were extremely professional, courteous, repsonsive and provided exceptional results. I submitted a request through Yelp and they were incredibly quick to respond and offer their services--told me to drop my car off the following day. Everyone always wants a reliable car place that won't rip you off or upsell you on things you don't need (especially if you're not a "car person") and this is that place. They tell you what you need and do a great job fixing it at a reasonable price. Hey I'm not rich, so my car isn't exactly reliable. I'd be LOST without this place. After 3 other mechanics wouldn't touch my rickety, quirky little european sputterbox and the dealership wanted $300 just for a diagnostic appointment, these folks saved the day. Helpful, understanding, responsive, and they didn't stop until the problems were all completely solved. When the oxygen sensor came off, they got it back on there. When there were weird noises, they told me whether I needed to worry. They even told me when a place in New Hampshire was ripping me off and helped me get my $ back. Got a Ford you'd like to run into the ground? Sure, get your cousin to work on that. But if you've got a foreign car and the engine is throwing codes that are the stuff of nightmares, this is the place to go. read more

I received a voicemail and email from BFM expressing regret that I was dissatisfied and offered to fix the problem. While I appreciate the gesture, I don't have enough confidence to bring it back a third time. Could be the person, whose name I don't remember, was having a bad day when I called last year to complain. I have changed the rating to two stars. One can't base a decision entirely on one review. Just letting BFM and potential customers that there is always room for improvement. Based on mostly favorable reviews, I brought my vintage 2000 VW Cabrio (only 74k miles) in to have the front brakes repaired. On my way home from picking up the car the following day, I noticed a rattling sound on the front passenger side. Being busy, I made an appointment to bring it in about 1- 1/2 weeks later. In the interim, one day I put the car in gear and the back brakes seized up. I was able to drive it, but if I put much pressure on the brake pedal, the rear brakes made a terrible, loud, scraping sound. When I made it to the follow up appointment, I was told that the rear calipers need to be replaced. First, when they had the car in before, they should have checked the rear brakes. Another $500 dollars later, driving home after the second appointment, the rattle from the front brake repair was still there! When I called to complain, I was basically told that's what I should expect for an old car. Weeks later, if the car sits for more than a few days at a time (not uncommon during a pandemic) the rear brakes stick and I now get a scraping sound from the front brakes. I spent a total of $1,400 dollars on brake repairs, and still have issues with the brakes. As I write this, I am re-reading reviews. Maybe it's coincidence, but the people with Mercedes, BMWs, etc. seem to have a much better experience with Brookline Foreign Motors. I, unfortunately, had a very different experience and DO NOT RECOMMEND Brookline Foreign Motors. read more

They took longer then they said by three days (fine), told me I needed multiple other things done that I didn't (fine) and were somewhat rude (fine). I expect these things from a mechanic so I wouldn't be that upset. But what does really upset me is that they returned the car with a new problem and then said it was already broken. It clearly wasn't. Just careless. But honestly they most horrible thing was when they were done with my car they just illegally parked it on the street with the door unlocked and the key on the seat. I got a ticket because of it and I thank god that I didn't have my car stolen. They were in the shop in the middle of the day so they could have kept it safely and locked with the key--but just don't care after they have your money. Horrible. I have a 75 dollar ticket because of them not caring. They also insist on all cash for what appears to be a tax evasion /fraud scheme. Shady. Go elsewhere. UPDATE--after posting this they immediately contacted me to threaten me to take this down and saying they will post text messages and other info. It's clear why they have good reviews. Reasonable prices compared to other companies for the body work on my vehicle. They got my quote back to me within the same day of appraisal via email which I appreciated. They were able to order parts ASAP and get things scheduled when it made sense for my schedule. The quote was still good when I had a delay in being able to set it up for a couple of months, whereas many other auto repair shops have required re-appraisal in the past (what a pain). So very thankful for that. When I unexpectedly had to go out of town earlier than imagined, they were able to finish up working on my car a half-day earlier than estimated (saved me having to rent a car/ZipCar!). The price was nearly exactly the same as quoted -- the apologized profusely about having to add on a mere thirty dollars extra for a part they needed. I was pleasantly surprised -- first all of when it is ever the original quote or close to it, and second of all whenever are auto shops ever profusely apologetic about it? Lastly, they did such a good job cleaning the inside and outside of my vehicle, it looked better than it has in years, a la detailing job. I'll definitely be back. read more

It's actually fairly simple - If you need any auto work done on your car and you live anywhere near here this is the place to go!!! I had a hit-and-run accident and this place was on the list of approved body shops. I called based on their reviews and Fred the owner was extremely friendly and informative. He said just come, bring the paperwork, drop of your car, I'll have you picked up and brought to Enterprise so you can get your rental. Everything went exactly as he stated. He even ordered me an Uber ride when the Enterprise people were taking a little too long. Fred dealt directly with the insurance company and got everything he needed approved. I was called under 2 weeks and picked up my car looking better than the day I purchased it. Really just a fantastic experience. It is nice to know that from now on, while I'm in the area, I have a trusted auto shop for any issues down the line. read more

I took my car for a diagnosis, I was given a call a couple hours later letting me know what the issues were. I was then quoted a rate, which was already over priced but I was in need. I opted to proceed with the repair. I didn't get much follow-up as to when the car would be ready, I called at end of day and no one answered. I called again the next day and was told they had 1 part and another was being ordered. Ok proceed to the 3rd day and at end of day they call me 30 minutes prior to close to say the car is ready. I rush over to get my car and pay. I was handed a bill MUCH higher than what was previously agreed upon. I question why it is so much higher and the man states "the quote I gave didn't include labor" I was completely deceived! Poor business practices are performed at this shop. read more

They did a horrible job with my car: the steering is much worse after they worked on it, and I had to take it to a different car shop only one week later! Not only were their reviews stellar, they came back with a very competitive estimate. The place was straightforward about what needed to be done, what issues could arise, and costs.
