I was told about this shop by a friend who swore by it, and I'm really glad I listened. It's a bit tucked away--set back from Winchester Street--so it's easy to miss if you don't know where to look. But once you find it, you'll discover an honest mechanic who truly knows his stuff. I came in to get a second (and honestly third) opinion after the dealer tried to tell me I needed a bunch of work done that didn't quite add up. The dealer's estimate was sky-high, and another local shop wasn't much better. Here, the owner took the time to actually show me what was wrong with my car, explaining everything clearly and breaking it down piece by piece. Turns out, I only needed a new control arm and brake caliper, not the laundry list of unnecessary repairs the dealer was pushing. The owner definitely has a personality--he's a very funny guy. I could tell right away he's a genuinely good guy who takes pride in being honest with his customers. I read some of the other reviews before coming in, and after my experience, I have to say: they've got him all wrong. My visit was completely different--transparent, fair, and friendly from start to finish. I brought my car to Paul since he was local and I needed my car checked asap. I had brought my car to Nissan in Norwood numerous times and was told my suspension was in good condition however, after taking it to Paul he informed me I needed a whole new suspension on my 2014 Nissan Altima and it was going to cost me $2,000 and he used KYB part etc., he told me he would give me part numbers and numerous times how he was a good guy not trying to rip me off, which should have tipped me off cause good people don't say they are they just are. So after speaking I decided to go forward with the repairs my own fault I should have gotten a written estimate prior to repairs not just a verbal agreement and I should have checked the parts myself but I didn't. Fast forward to a couple days later when I pick my car up I am then informed he didn't need to fix a couple parts in the rear suspension however, the price was still the same yes odd but then I was informed he damaged my rear passenger side door while he had it up on the lift and when damaged I mean smashed completely needed to be completely replaced however, instead of calling me to inform me he damaged MY vehicle he took it upon himself to call a junkyard and put a door that was damaged and had no child lock which I use to keep my 4-year-old form attempting to open the door I informed him but due to it being the holiday weekend he made it as no big deal I will fix it after the holiday and cover expenses, agh yeah you damaged it. I just paid and left at this point one more thing would just tip my stress level to max and I just wanted to get out of there. I called him on that Wednesday s after the 4th since it was a holiday weekend and most places were closed to inform him when I go over bumps Im hearing a clunking noise which I didn't even hear before I fixed my suspension he told me he was swamped could I bring it on Monday I agreed and his mechanic took a drive with me and told me that noise is normal because it's a new stuff suspension yeah I don't think so but I brought my car to my auto body guy who had done some body work a while back and he had a mechanic of his check the door to make sure nothing else was damaged. He informed me if this guy is going to do the body work this is what needs to be done so it's done right. I spoke with the owner Paul before having his auto guy touch my car as to what I required as far as him painting my car door. He was compliant and agreed until I informed him that if while he had my vehicle and if anything else happens before you fix, order a part etc. Call me first he informed me he didn't with my door because it was 4th of July weekend he was busy and then said how he got sick after the 4th which I don't understand how you getting sick a week after or even days after had an effect but ok first call should have been to me the owner not a junk yard. He told me he would give me the parts numbers and then said he wasn't giving me anything, raised his voice Im not trying to get over on anyone in fact I think he said I was. I don't know how a paying customer is trying to get over on him. You pay for something to get fixed you want the job done just like you wanted the money when the job was complete. To sum it up I paid him for a crappy suspension job which is loud over bumps and I was informed could be the bushings weren't changed. So now I am still dealing with my cars suspension and after Paul the owner yelling at me and telling me to shut up right this great guy lol I wouldn't let him "fix" anything on my car. True colors always shine through and when confronted with his scammer ways he exploded. He charged me $419.17 each to be exact for for KYB front quick struts. Retail they don't even go for $200 so he charged me double what he paid which I paid for my door he damaged myself in the long run. When I asked him to show me the invoice to what he paid he told me to "shut the hell up" and "this is what you do bring your car to shops" agh yes I wanted my car fixed and you could have proved me wrong with just showing me the invoice but he couldn't because he knows he over charged me. So now I am going through small claims court to get my door fixed. Never had a worse experience in my life in any business I have been to! Went in to get my Toyota Camry for which there might be a leak in the muffler - to be checked. When I asked Paul where the leak was and tried to follow him - he started yelling to get out of his shop and using the F word - since he thought I didnt trust him. Be aware of this shop...... The owner is not an honest nor a friendly guy (he may sound friendly). He is there to rip you off. He charged me $220 for a part that was only $35. He charged me part and labor for work he didn't even do (I found that out later after I took my car to a different shop for another repair). He would charge me for parts on the invoice that I didn't request him to do. When I pointed out those weren't part of the repair, then he got upset and started screaming. I also had to go there 3 times for a repair that a qualified shop would have done right on the first time. I got ripped off twice there. These guys are cool. I had my AC recharged next door at Valvoline recently. Less than 24 hours later, AC stopped working suddenly, and they recommended Paul's. They called Lexus for parts and fixed my AC a few days later-it was a leaky gasket. They took my car back and had the AC recharged again (Valvoline had said that they would do this because of their own warranty). Now, a few weeks later, my AC decides that it only likes to work half of the time. I'm wondering if it's a bad compressor. We'll see. That car is on its way out anyway. Also, they were able to pull my faulty power window back up (as it had stopped working) so the rain that's been falling so much lately would stop leaking in. Thank you! read more

Great people and honest. I have a 2005 Volvo XC70 that I have been bringing to them, much cheaper than the dealership. They use genuine Volvo parts and explain all work that is being done. Paul and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with. I had my '05 BMW 325xi taken to his shop after it'd broken down. Paul communicated seamlessly, efficiently making decisions and delivering highly reasonable quotes on repairs. The car was in his shop for no more than 30 hours and had all of the repairs complete. I had to pick up the car after work hours and he had safely stowed my key and left the invoice for me on the driver seat. I felt very safe fetching the car even late in the evening. After light mileage (~30k), the A/C on my wife's Audi A3 decided to quit. Found Paul's shop on the net, along with several positive reviews, so called him to discuss the problem. He was knowledgeable and patient on the phone, which are rare qualities these days in auto service. My wife took the car into him, and he quickly diagnosed a compressor leak (unlucky for me). Paul quoted me a reasonable price well under dealer estimates, but here's the real reason why I'm writing this review. Paul had already placed an overnight order for a replacement part, but I managed to find a technical service bulletin from Audi describing that the OEM compressors in my car tended to be defective. I called Paul and discussed how I wanted to get the dealer to pay for the repair. He understood the situation and graciously didn't give me a hard time at all despite the inconvenience of cancelling his prior order. Net result: I was able to get the compressor replacement parts paid for by Audi (despite being out of warranty), and saved a lot of money. Do not do business with this shop. My car was damaged upon return to which the owner flat out denied. They damaged the dash and refused to accept responsibility. The cherry was the owner Paul insisted I needed a new battery. Said we tested it and theres NO QUESTION you need a battery. A couple of days later I decided to see what a $200 battery looks like. I would never give a mechanic this type of rating but here is the thing. My emergency lights came on last night and I called my regular mechanic who told me it was the alternator. They could not see me for a week - I called Paul's on a Sat. morning and let them know the situation. Within 2 hours my car was fixed and it saved me getting stranded. They were nice, very professional and as a woman I get concerned about being taken advantage of - not even remotely the case here. I would suggest to anyone to give them the business - they are now my mechanics and I would encourage anyone to go there. Friday at around 3:30, my father, who was coming to visit me from out of state, called from the road and said that his check engine light went on. He didn't want to drive home hundreds of miles with the check engine light on, and asked me to find him a mechanic who could look at the car on a last minute basis. I called around and ended up with Paul's. They said to bring the car in Saturday morning and they'd look at it. We did and they looked at it and were even able to replace the part that had failed, all before they closed at noon. I recommend them very highly. read more

I was guided over here from Valvoline when my a/c stopped working. Wow that was a big mistake, they did lots of work on my car because the check engine light was on.....they replaced the catalytic converter twice and the light was still on. Paul told me he would not fix it again with out charging me more $$. This place sucks, oh and they never were able to fix my a/c.............basically every repair on my car I had to go back to get fixed again, and they never were fixed. I still have my check engine light on with a cat converter code and no A/C. (and alot less $ in my pocket) The owner Paul will reel you in with charm and then become really condescending when he can't fix it. Steer way clear of this place. He is a very knowledgable and sweet guy, and he employs 2 wonderful mechanics who have the same great qualities that he has. John and Andy are both expert , experienced, and nice (and patient) men. I live right near them so they are kind enough to drive me home if necessary or deliver my car. If there's a little thing they can help with, they'll do it gratis. Very nice work, quick and friendly service. We brought in our car for collision repair, and they did an excellent job and made it easy to deal with the insurance company (although he is not registered so insurance companies don't pay him directly - you pay him, and then get reimbursed by your insurance company). He even had the car detailed and it looked great inside and out. Paul is very friendly and eager to help. Upon picking up my car, he asked one of his mechanics to check the tire pressures because he thought the driver side front tire looked a bit flat. The mechanic said everything was fine. Paul encouraged me to call if there were any issues with the car, and I left his shop a happy customer. The next morning, that driver side front tire was completely flat. We placed a spare tire on, drove it back to Paul's and he was happy to seal the tire- he even did it for free! He even threw in an oil change, which we did not request (and for which we did not sign a work order) and we were charged for it. I don't mind paying for work done, but the car was not due for an oil change - the last change (with full synthetic) was done fewer than 3000 miles ago, and I am not sure what type of oil is now in my car. In summary, very happy about the service and work that we had requested, but not so thrilled that unrequested work was performed. Overall I would recommend Paul's but would be worth just explicitly stating what work is to be done. read more

Brought my BMW X3 to get repairs done and they were able to get everything done smoothly and easily. *****WARNING: Do not go to this mechanic. Please read this review****** I was irresponsible with checking the oil in my 2002 BMW 325xi and let it run low. One day some smoke came out of the tail pipe and I realized how low the oil was. I found Paul's thru Yelp and explained the situation and had it towed there as I was concerned I had done damage to the car. In about an hour or two, I got a call saying that I needed a new engine [costing b/w $7-8,000] and that I only had a few months left before it was going to die. I was very upset thinking I had wrecked my car and would not be able to afford a new car as I'm a social worker and my parents had given me their old car. He also told me I needed a new thermostat, 02 sensors and brakes. My parents' mechanic in Maine is very trustworthy and we have taken all our cars to him for years. I took it to him for a second opinion. Turns out all I needed was a new O-ring and the radiator had a leak, which he repaired. It ended up costing $800. I didn't even need new brakes. Our mechanic says my car can probably drive another 100,000 miles. If you have to take your car there, I would make sure to get a second opinion b/c you're probably being cheated. Don't fall for his I'm so honest routine. I only gave him 1 star b/c you have to at least enter one. read more

Let me first say that I think Paul comes across as a really nice guy and very personable on the phone. I called him based on the yelp rating, but I should have looked closer to see that all the 5 star rating were for smaller type jobs on cars and I had a bigger issue. My car needed thousands of dollars in repairs caused by an accident. My low rating is due to the following scenario. My car was towed to a local tow yard after the accident and it needed to get to the repair shop. After being there for several days the charges totaled $1000 to get the car from the tow yard to Paul's shop. Paul tells me that I need to pay the $1000 out of pocket and he kept telling me that I'll be reimbursed right away from my insurance company. I come to find out a few things 1) It's not normal for the repair shop to make you pay for the tow and 2 I've still not been reimbursed. So to me it comes across that Paul did not want to shell the money out himself and now he puts the burden back on the customer. To make matters even worse....He has to have someone else take my car because he was not able to work on that much damage!!!! I might go there for the smaller situations, but if it involves tow yards, insurance and the like...I'd find someone else read more

I am very fussy about my Audi A4. I had always had it serviced by Audi and even though it has a lot of miles on it, it is perfect. When I retired, I decided to take my car locally for repairs and Paul's was recommended to me. I have been there three times and could not be more pleased. I was in Boston MA with my VW golf with my sister, my mother and my German Shepherd. I was there dealing with my stepfather's funeral and gathering his things...and I knew I had a long drive back to Canada in two days but the emergency break light was flashing and beeping... As I try to avoid dealers I picked him out of google mechanic search since the word "foreign" was in his name. I met Paul and he sent a mechanic to check it out, he told me not to worry, they checked it quickly (I did not have a lot of time with all that was going on). They added break fluid, scanned the car, checked for leaks and did not charge me a penny - literally god-sent!! On the drive home the same issue started happening again and it was 7pm. I was 2 hours from Canada and started to fear the situation. I called Paul and he talked me through the issue and gave me pointers which helped me relax as I knew what to do and my safety was not at risk... he even asked that I call him the next day to make sure I got home safely. Paul and his entire crew are just amazing. My 2011 Tiguan, an early model, had a lot of problems bc it was an early prototype. Paul researched ALL the issues and contacted Volkswagen personally to figure it out. The car needed major work, as in taking the transmission out and rebuilding parts of the engine, for starters. I used to go to the dealer, so know that Paul saved me thousands of dollars. He and his staff went over and beyond to get my car running again, and as quickly as possible. Paul took all of my panicked calls about the car professionally and patiently. His mechanic did a superb job.
