Knowledgeable but Unprofessional and Dirty (not covid-safe!): I can relate to many of the 1-2 star ratings posted here. I'm very sorry you had that experience, I did too. I thought I would get a clean, friendly, respectful, professional, covid-safe repair person at my door when I called Ron at A1, but I got the opposite. Pros: Answers quickly, shows up same day, spent two hours attempting to diagnose the problem, tried to find me a replacement, and DID NOT CHARGE for all that time and effort (this time). Cons: Impolite, interrupts, complains, swears frequently, refuses to work on certain models, asks nosy questions, makes shaming comments and judgments about things that are none of his concern, has poor hygiene, leaves everything he touches or walks on VERY filthy, and refuses to follow covid-19 precautions. I used Ron @ A1 a few years ago and he charged a $65 diagnostic fee then, was decent on the service but a bit cranky, though mostly friendly. This time he did not charge, but his behavior made that more than fair. On the phone, he interrupted constantly and forewent all pleasantries. When he arrived, his mask was around his chin the whole time, he did not wash his very dirty hands or wear gloves, he smelled like grease, metal and dirt and his dirty shoes left pieces of rubber, debris and dirt all over my floor. He left greasy handprints and dirt all over my appliances and everything he needlessly touched, including my phone which he insisted on using since he didn't bring his own. He did not respect my belongings or personal home space. He threw his jacket on the floor, dumped his dirty bag of tools all over my personal items including photos and keepsakes, repeatedly swore and complained about how stupid my appliance was, was unable to repair it and unsure what the problem was as he was unfamiliar with the exact model, but concluded it was "junk", threw an extra part he forgot to put back on into the appliance, slammed it shut and shoved it back, crushing part of it, refusing to plug it in because "it don't work anyway" then tried to get me to immediately buy a new one. He insulted me for getting rid of an appliance that didn't work very well anymore, he insulted my family for giving me my current appliance and buying a newer one for options, and he insulted my autistic daughter who was making noise playing upstairs; he thought the noise was cute when he guessed it was a boy but when corrected, he asked disgustedly, "A girl?? What's she doing up there?! She sounds like a crying dog!" read more

Refrigerator freezer worked but didn't cool the main box. Called him. After telling him model, he told me what to do. Vent from freezer was plugged with ice so no cold air reached the bottom. Had been working fine for 9 years until it didn't. Followed instructions and BAM, I fixed it myself. Easy peasy. I think that was great from both of us. Truly appreciate. Thanks. We had a new fridge that was damaged during delivery. The delivery company was unresponsive about making it right so I called A1. I left a message and got a return call in minutes. An appointment was scheduled for 15 minutes later. Ron showed up and was able to diagnose the problem immediately. The doors which were not aligning had been damaged at the hinges during shipping. Since it's a new fridge I'll be returning it but Ron saved me the hassle of trying to get the delivery company, who broke it in the first place, to come back and try. Called to get help with my washer, he asked what brand, I told him, he asked what it was doing and I told him, he asked if it was electrical and I tried telling him "yes it has buttons instead of knobs" but before I could finish he interrupted me and rudely asked if it had a "push to start button" I said yes and he quickly said he doesn't work on it. I call this morning because my oven wasn't working properly. Not only did Ron return my call, he was at my house this afternoon. He put the oven through its paces, eliminating the possibility it was a part. And he gave me me some workarounds to see if we can solve the problem. No suggestion that the stove is a pile of junk, even though it is an older model, and no push to buy expensive parts or replace the stove entirely. I'll give you that Ron's bedside manner can be a bit gruff and direct, BUT, the quality of his work makes up for it. I have him come out and fix all of our appliances in all 6 of our houses! He will respond immediately and let you know what needs to be done to do a temporary fix and a permanent one if they are not the same. His prices do not reflect the quality of his work. There have been times when he's come out and said he couldn't do anything and wouldn't charge for the visit. I had to insist he invoices us for the call even though he fought me on it! I also value his input and ask for his feedback now each time I buy any new appliances for our houses and am always so glad I did. He's a gem! read more

Ron is a local "gem". My dryer had stopped working and he came out w/i 24 hours...would have been sooner but I had a previous appt. He showed up on time; fixed the original problem and located a noise problem I had mentioned. Went to get a part and was back in a flash with it. Dryer fixed and humming like new. I was also having problems with the timer on the washer but the replacement wasn't made any more (machines were both 23 YO.) The washer was still serviceable. Next day, the washer died. I called him and he not only recommended the washer model that he felt would be perfect for me (and which CONSUMER REPORTS verified was the one) but sent me to the store that carried it at the best price. 2 days later, my new washer was here. His rates were reasonable, his service impeccable and there was no charge for the time spent with me on the phone for the advice. I wish more professionals in my town followed his work ethic. If I could give a zero I would. I applied for a Sears appointment for a problem with my refrigerator. I listened to the whole talk on COVID and ensuring the safety of their employee when they came for the appointment between 1 pm and 5 pm on 8/19/2020. I am sure that most people hate when their medical provider cancels an appointment on them at the last minute. Well, this is what I did for my patients...I cancelled to get my refrigerator fixed. ONLY TO HAVE THIS COMPANY NOT SHOW TO THE APPOINTMENT I called Sears at 445 pm as I had not heard from anyone and was told my appointment was rescheduled, without my knowledge, to 4/21. this means I would have to cancel another clinic day at the last minute with patients that need me, so apparently A1 appliance does not care about me, or any member on my patient care load. At 445, 448, 450, 455 they did not answer the phone before I left a message with these details and requesting call back from manager/CEO/other person that could help with their no show rate re: their company. When I finally get ahold of someone, ummm...they are done for the day, sorry. Sorry???? If your practitioner cancelled your visit, and then cancelled again, would you accept sorry from me??? No, you would be really mad that I did not see you for your medical condition that you had an appointment for!!!! read more

WOW. I read all of the great reviews on here on was confident with my decision to seek washer repair through A1 Appliance Repair. I called the business number at 9:45am- no answer, left a voicemail. On their voicemail it listed a cell phone number to reach as an alternative if they're out on a job. I called the cell number- no answer, left another voicemail (and apologized for leaving two, I didn't know which was best to reach them at). I got a return call at 10:40 am. I had put my phone on the kitchen counter earlier and was cleaning. I ended up not hearing the phone ring while I was doing the dishes and missed the return call. When I noticed 10 minutes later I first checked my voicemail but he didn't leave a message. I called back and again, no answer. 5 min after that I answered the return call. When I picked up the phone, before I even had a chance to say hello, I heard a man yelling into the phone "ANSWER YOUR DAMN PHONE, UGH!". (At this point my phone was on it's second ring... he could not have been "waiting" for more than 10 seconds.) I was taken a little aback by the initial greeting but once past the initial shock I joyfully said hello and thanked him for the return call. He didn't reply with any pleasantries and went straight to, "Well did you think to clean the filter on your washer?" Once again this was in a not so nice manner. I said yes I cleaned the filter and also bailed out any water sitting in the washer. He replied "I don't work on LG washers (I left that info in the initial voicemail), okay?!" I started to reply to thank him anyways but before I could finish he hung up the phone. I'm glad I missed the bullet of working with them. I'm surprised by all of the great reviews on here. Maybe he was just having a bad day, but still, you work in customer service. Cheer up. Don't be so rude. I'm calling during your normal business hours to discuss hiring you for a service and you're acting like I'm being such a hassle. If you didn't work on LG washers, you could of left a voicemail the first time and avoided the "hassle" of playing phone tag. Also, I called you 4 different times, 3 of which you didn't pick up your phone. I fail to answer your single return call and you have a tissy. read more

I've never called an appliance repair service, but now a year into home ownership, our dryer went out. Being an old sturdy Maytag, we thought we'd try fixing rather than getting something else. He cuts me off with "yeah, I got your message and I'll call you back when I can". That was 2 weeks ago, he has yet to call me back. My husband called him last week asking how much he charges to come out and diagnose the problem. He responds with "I don't give free estimates". He didn't ask for a free estimate, he just wanted to know how much he charges to come out and give an estimate! He asked what kind of dryer we had and when my husband told him, his response was "I hate working on those dryers. I'm not going to do it". A repair man who doesn't do repairs? I bought a GE drier a little over a year ago. Then, 9 months in the drier malfunctioned and filled my home with natural gas. It took a week or so for parts to come in. 3 months later I smelled gas in my yard coming from the drier vent. I ran inside to find my entire house filled with gas fumes again. Tech came out and ordered parts. Took 3 weeks to come in. They changed the parts and found that the motor froze up from sitting. Ordered more parts. It's been 8 weeks now without a drier. They came Tuesday with the parts and guess what. Drier is still broke. We have called twice since Tuesday and not even a return call from anyone @A1 Appliances on the status. Everyone that knows me realizes that I headed up a service department for many years. To say I am disappointed in the Drier and the customer service level does not come close to describing my disappointment. We have purchased all of our appliances through A1 for our rental property renovation and our home, never questioning price. You would think management would pay attention to that and at least return our call. read more
