Do not hire this company. I do not recommend A1 Asphalt. We had our driveway paved in July 2022. The driveway started to come apart in the Spring of 2023. My husband contacted them and they said we didn't have a warranty, and then when I contacted them, they said they'd come out and then stopped answering texts and calls. Very disappointing. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and the PA Attorney Generals Office. Do NOT hire. I do have a copy of a signed check with Michael's SSN, DOB and DL# on it - maybe I should threaten to post that on the internet and he'll provide better business to his customers. read more

NO! NEVER AGAIN! Stay far away and never hire. Owen and Michael McDonald will sweet talk you to do the work then use any excuse to avoid correcting the poor work their contractors end up doing. Hired them in Nov 2022, with written contract, to completely repave and also install a PVC pipe under the end of the driveway (have a narrow gulley running down the street and I wanted rain water to run under the end of driveway). By the end of the job they had instead installed a black plastic drain pipe under the end of the driveway (not PVC) and Owen assured me it would hold up. Less than 3 days later the asphalt began to peel away over the pipe, exposing it in multiple places. Owen claimed it was too late in the year to repair but I would be first on the list in Spring. It is now July 2023 and despite multiple phone calls and texts to both Owen and Michael, and promises of repair, the driveway is even worse and they won't commit to a repair date. read more

Do not use this company, they are crooks. Gave a great price and promised to do a great job. They went over the existing driveway. I also had the driveway widened. You could see indents in the asphalt from tires where cars parked. Several areas were "smushy " and quickly deteriorated down to soil. My wife and I called and texted the owner Owen McDonald and 50+ occasions beginning a month or less after completion and we have dealt with broken promises. Job was done in May of 2022 and as of September 2023 they still have not resolved the issue. Do not use them, there work is terrible. read more

A negative star would be my first choice, both father and son both falsely explained the quality of the materials they use! The base layer was not a crush and run texture, and the asphalt/blacktop coat is very coarse grade that is now allowing water to permeate thru top layer, which will erode surface underneath. They have not returned phone calls, email, and or text. They also refuse to respond to both Pa, and Delaware BBB. Trying to contact is impossible, this has gone on since November 2022. They were told of a standing water problem that was the biggest reason for new surface. They where shown photos, and the exact area that was of prime concern. When they got done, I question the area, I was promised it was taken care of, first heavy rain, and the exact area is now a large pooling area. Anyone who would like proof of my claims, I can send pictures, and Government documentation .we can arrange sending photos/BBB response. Legal action is now pending paperwork. 1 star is generous. Don't use them. They ran asphalt too far carelessly into gate which wouldn't close anymore after they left. Told me that night they would come back in a few days to cut it back. Have been calling for over two months. They'll only answer if I call from a number they don't recognize. They will then tell me they have me scheduled to come back out at some point later that week. No call, no show. Rinse and repeat. Have been texting and calling for 2 months. They have no intentions on coming back. I don't even know where to begin.. But make sure you read all of these reviews because they're SPOT ON. Mike and Owen are definitely peas in a pod. We are a large professional business in the Douglassville PA area who hired them to do our lot (no wonder they're the cheapest) because it looks like a bunch of 9 year olds did it. I would've paid Double for a better business had I known it would be so terrible. They are full of empty of promises and will tell you anything you want to hear, but never call back, never come back, and eventually stop answering the phone. These clowns wouldn't know what to do if they were at the circus! I would post pictures and lots of other information exposing their lies and deceiving ways of doing business but I think this says enough. I've already stopped over a dozen companies in our area from using these guys, could be upwards of a $100,000 worth of business. I'm happy with that . Update: I was contacted by Owen, Michael's father and asked for a review. I responded that I could never do that because of the awful job and service done by his son. He seemed concerned, but I never heard back again. A one star is too much! I guess I was foolish to actually think that they would make good on their guarantee. I would not recommend this company by any means. They were extremely responsive at the beginning when they wanted our business and then when we contacted them afterwards to fix what they did poorly on, they completely disappeared. They tried to blame things on us (but we can't make weeds grow through asphalt). Terrible communication. There's a reason they are a "good value." They seemed nice and personable at the beginning but their work is TERRIBLE. We have weeds growing through the asphalt, sink spots where the vehicle parks (they didn't make it thick enough), and the edges have already cracked. It also was not rolled tight enough. They promised to come back and seal it and that's when they disappeared. We gave them ample opportunity and chances to reply to us and because they are acting like children this is what has promoted my review. I also plan on posting this review on every site I can find. Sink holes, ruts and seams all in new driveway. They came back to patch once already, patches look like crap, more sink holes and seams through driveway. It's been a month. Their answer is we need to wait 2 months to fix it so it can settle. They built the pavement up to high against garage so now we get rain water in it.
