They say that they replace Wayne Dalton springs but they do not. They rope a dope you to do a replcacement to regular torsion springs. $1,700. Because they know you can't do it your self. $400 worth of parts online and only a 30 day labor warranty. The tech over set the the open and close limits which will cause more damage in the future for more service. I reset them. Wayne Dalton has crap doors and if you are buying a house with them deduct $2,000 for that and get it done before move in. read more

I called about their $29.95 garage door inspection and tune-up for my two garage doors. Man I spoke to tried the classic bait and switch. I hung up. Second time... spoke to a woman who tried the same tactic as the first call. Hung up on her too. Third time... broke a spring on my 7 foot insulated metal clad garage door. Wanted a price and when they could come. Woman said they needed to send someone to see what I needed then they could give me a price and schedule the repair. So two trips to do one job and a waste of my time no doubt at MY expense. Gave the same information to two other companies and BOTH quoted me a price and BOTH could come that day. One company came in ONE HOUR and replaced BOTH springs. They had the correct springs on the truck because I had given them the details of the garage door. A1... that's THREE strikes and you're OUT! I had my garage door motor replaced. I was told that the springs needed to be replaced as well. The total cost for the least expensive motor and springs available and the labor was approximately $2,000. This seems excessive to me. The technician was friendly and I believe that the work was competently done. Communicating with the office can be frustrating, as their answering service is AI. My old garage door had been installed by a hard working man who ran a small family business under the same name some years ago. The current company is a much different beast. Beware of unfair trade practices. Technician arrived late (after 6 p.m.) and after spending 45 minutes diagnosing the door's uneven performance, advised that the existing springs were underrated for the weight of the garage door and that I owed $355 for his time. He removed the torsion springs and installed two new ones and two cables and then told me I owed $1800. The next morning, I found out that no one charges more than $450 for similar work and that the springs were not underrated. In fact the torsion springs (installed by the previous homeowner in January 2023) could have been adjusted to take off more weight from the door. Their customer service manager has offered a reduction of the fee to $1221. I would not recommend this company. read more

Two techs came out and it was clear that they had been trained to up-sell. They said the price to install the recommended 5 year springs would be over $600. I said no thank you and paid the $39 visit fee. I called Garage Doors by Nestor and the tech was able to come out the same day. The tech was talented, meticulous, and polite. Today I had two very polite and professional technicians arrive at my house to do a garage door "tuneup "! While they were working a spring broke, which the tech said was extremely rare (to happen to him while working on a garage) resulting in us having to completely replace the spring and other parts. The technician was very knowledgeable in explaining our options and kept saying he was embarrassed. The garage door is old and I didn't blame them I just said "things happen at least it happened with you guys who can fix it." We had an appointment window of 1-6 got a text at 11:30 saying they were coming. We were across town eating brunch. So we quickly left and headed home. The technician called and said he was at our home we told him we were about 20 minutes away, this was at 12. Got home and he had gone to eat lunch. Anyway, he gets there and my wife explains that the wire that releases the lock had broken. I had used duct tape to get it to work. He then gives us a quote of $1149 to fix it. We thought that was expensive but went with it. An hour later he is done. I noticed that my tape was still there. I asked him if he had fixed it. He then noticed what we had asked him to fix. He said he thought it was weird that we had him fix things not broken. He also said that he had had a bad day. He then spent 10 minutes and actually fixed the problem. He did apologize and reduced the bill to $750. However I paid $750 for service I didn't need. I expected him to be the expert and understand that the duct tape covering the latch is the problem. So I am out a bunch of money and have a garage that has new parts that didn't need to be replaced. If I hadn't noticed the tape still there nothing would have been fixed. Not happy at all. My wife and I are teachers and can't afford $750 bad days. Just found out that they signed us up for a $155 membership without us knowing. You see the technician couldn't/didn't give us a receipt. Most people only complain, and unfortunately that is what I have to do today. 18 months ago they installed a complete door and door opener, besides nickle and dime-ing me to death for the system and 2 remotes. 18 months later the drive mechanism popped of on Friday, they stated they would be out on Monday, then Monday called to reschedule for Thursday, so we would have had to wait almost 7 days to get it fixed.... Called Overhead Door company at 8 am, had a tech here at 9:30 am. The tech found the initial installer did not put in a cotter pin to prevent this issue. This service call cost 100 bucks, and at this point A1 Garage Door Owes me for their mistake/issue. but I will console myself to never recommend this company, not even to my worse enemy...sorry you failed and now this adds to your disgrace and lack of proper customer service....and loss of business by me and all I know.... read more

My garage door opener broke last week (9/4). When looking for which company I should choose, I found a coupon from ValPak for A1 Garage and gave them a call on Monday (9/11) to setup an appointment for Wednesday morning between 8 and 10. The technician, Gene, arrive on time at 8am. After going through a safety check on my garage door, Gene pointed out the cables along the sides were frayed and recommended the rollers need to be replaced soon. I decided to go ahead and add the cables and roller replacement to the new garage door opener installation. Gene got everything done within 2 hours and went through all the features of the garage door opener. I am quite satisfied with the work done and I definitely will contact A1 Garage in the future. When the tech arrived he had me sign before he started and it was only at this point the $20 "service charge" was disclosed. I contacted A1 garage door openers on Friday July 10, 2020. Set up an appointment with the call center for Tuesday July 14 between 1 and 6 pm. I had 2 vehicles stuck in the garage and was ok with waiting until Tuesday when they would replace the opener. On Tuesday at 2 pm I received a call saying they could not make it - I told the caller that was unacceptable that I had to get the cars out of the garage. He indicated he would have someone there but it might be the end of the day and they would call me. At 4:30 I texted back the to the number they had confirmed the appointment with as the text had indicated they would respond more quickly to a text. At 5:45 I called them as I had not heard back from the text. The call center representative had lots of apologies, then contacted the ABQ office. She relayed that the Albuquerque office didn't have the motor on the truck for the opener they had quoted me. No options. No reschedule, no other options for opener, nothing. They could send someone out to get the old door open - for a fee - but did know what that fee would be... seriously? But I could leave a message for the manager...l Bottom line - worst customer service I've been around in a very long time - initial contact great - even mentioned a coupon - got texted confirmation then nothing. Avoid this company unless you don't mind breach of contract and no satisfaction whatsoever... Update: spoke to Bruce, the manager. Nice guy, sympathetic, unacceptable customer service, would look into it, blah, blah blah - absolutely did not help - said they had issues getting the openers due to Covid shutdowns, which did not explain why they had enough to do installs in Albuquerque all day before getting to me in Bosque Farms... To be fair, he did give me advice on how to get the door opened manually. So no new appointment, no satisfaction, no joy! The coupon says 'same day service' when I called on Thursday evening and had to wait till Saturday morning, 8 am to 1 pm. Got a call at 8:45 Saturday morning saying they won't be there till 1 pm till 6 pm. Shot that day. Needles to say, the cost was more than advertised. You'd think they'd take into consideration the fact of the inconvenience but nope. Found out you get charged for them just showing up, also. The deal was $329 for a new opener, installed, and paid $100 more. Tried to up-sell a new spring(twice) that would've cost over $1000 total. After saying no thanks, had to sign 'if and when' the spring goes and causes damage to the new opener, all warranties would be void. Don't mind covering their asses for sure. The guy was alright. Seemed overworked and I wondered why he was pressing the up-sell so much and making sure I was crazy if I didn't go through with it. Terrible company! We initially called for an appointment and a quote. They did not mention anything about a service call charge. The tech showed up with a really bad attitude. We had a broken spring. He's the know it all type. He suggested that we needed an entire garage door system replaced because the one we had installed was the "cheapest on the market". Our home was built with it, wouldn't it be our call to change it or not? He wanted to charge us $850! All we needed were replacement springs. We sent him away. But before so, he wanted to charge us a service fee. I spoke to his manager and got it waived since the receptionist never even mentioned it over the phone.
