Bill Cooper Jr. Is a pretty shifty guy that I worked for as a dump truck driver for 3 weeks before I saw first hand how he operated and I was ashamed to be affiliated with him and his business so I quit I hired on when he was traveling through MN and WI about 2 yrs ago when he placed an ad on Craigslist looking for a CDL driver. His equipment was all new and that impressed me but things went bad immediately after I started . Fuel cards were being declined , the motel we were at in Wisconsin kept telling us that his CC kept getting declined and he had to show up several times to pay the bill in cash. We would load up in the morning with asphalt on 2 trucks and wait in Walmart parking lots while Bill drove around in his pickup door to door trying to get jobs while claiming to homeowners his deals on "leftover " material from neighbors jobs. Lie. We were never allowed to speak a word to homeowner even if they approached us because Bill didn't want us to contradict his lies to customers. In one day , we were asked to leave 3 jobs by the homeowner before we finished because of shoddy work and upcharging. The day I quit after 3 weeks, sheriff's deputies came to our hotel in Hudson About complaints from locals and Bill never showed up , he hid because he never stayed in the same hotels as he out his workers in. Then when the deputies finally left , we were called by Bill and told to pack fast because we were leaving the motel as soon as it got dark out . I told him then I was done and going home and I was told I would be paid for the week since I worked until Friday night and 3 times the money never came. Then he blocked my calls and they fled in the night to the New York area where he put on a local company DOT number and credentials . He runs so illegal. I had to change state license plates 2x , he was cited by wi DOT for no lettering or DOT numbers on this trucks and my very first day I was given the sign to pull into Hudson scale and he told us to just ignore and run it because we had got him earlier for violations but I went in the scale and of course written up for several violations on his equipment and registration. He had FLA1 name on his trucks but had checks for jobs written out to Bees Paving . I had most of the addresses to the customers I drove to for the 3 weeks in my personal GPS and I contacted the local law enforcement for those counties so they could investigate the complaints and I don't think he will be back in MN or Wi anytime soon. Ps. I have cell phone pics and the actual DOT tickets for the company to back up what I'm saying. The week after I quit, his crew leader of 2 yrs left too because his conscience told him what we were doing wasn't wrong. He called to let me know Bill had run off to New York in the night and changed name on the trucks again and I'm sorry for anyone Bill hurt . read more

Bill Cooper Sr and Jr paved our driveway in April 2021. It was a big job and 95% looks awesome. The 5% is cracking and looks bad, and is getting worse. I was assured by Jr and Sr that that would come by and do whatever it takes to make us happy. After 3 no shows, the non-existent warranty is now expired. We are really disappointed that they failed to follow up. I would have gladly gave them 5 stars if they honered their word and warranty. read more

These guys leveled my patio yesterday. They worked non stop from 9am til almost 6 pm. This patio has never been this flat. They were wonderful to work with and came recommended by the concrete company that did my leveling posts under my home due to normal home settling over the years. SO FAR wonderful. There is also a 3 year transferable warrenty. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Absolutely the most unprofessional group of guys Iv ever been around. I went out there to do a repair on one of their trailers and was promptly told they could be doing it faster and tried walking me through the repair as if I haven't been in my trade for a very long amount of time. I tried explaining why I was doing what I was doing and explained further why the repair would cost a little more due to the fact the repair was unclear over the phone and was more extensive than originally thought. The "owner" (very unclear as to 2 different guys out there claimed they were the owner) began to get very disgruntled and cussed me and my brother out. So I told him very politely we were going to leave that I didn't need to work around people who carry themselves in such a manner. That's when he threatened to "bust our heads off our shoulders" and very aggressively came at us right in front of my pregnant girlfriend. He eventually got in his truck and tore out only to come back to run us off the property about a foot away from my rear bumper. Very fortunate the cops were not involved in this situation. Only reason they're getting one star is because I can't leave none. read more

Bill comes across as a nice guy but does seem to always have an excuse for everything. He was the lowest bid I got for a new driveway and parking area so I went with him despite a bad review on the BBB site. (A review he blamed on a bad customer.) I won't go into the details of the drama of dealing with this guy, but the bottom line is that my two month old driveway and parking area is already starting to settle and buckle--developing high and low spots. That tells me the base was not properly prepared. It is also already sprouting weeds THROUGH the new layer of asphalt. Perhaps after 20 years of neglect, maybe...but two months? Come on--no, grass should not be sprouting through the pavement in two months. Bill is a drama queen and promptly blamed the settling on the fact that HIS concrete referral parked a cement truck on the new driveway when it was a month old despite my explicit instructions not to...the fact is the settling is not occurring anywhere near where the truck was, and that still doesn't explain the grass sprouting through. The only reason for the grass is that the asphalt was laid too thin--something I mentioned WHILE they were laying it. I noticed the layer is only about 1.5" thick. He dismissed me when I brought it up during installation, and now wants to argue and claim it was "way thicker" than that. Whatever. He's got an argument and an excuse for everything. He'll give you a good price, yup. And you get what you pay for. read more

Hands down, the most unprofessional contractor I have ever dealt with. I hired A-1 to install an asphalt driveway over an existing gravel driveway. Throughout the experience, it became very apparent to me they take no pride in their work. I told the owner and the owner's son(foreman) what I wanted multiple times when they came to give an estimate, when they were performing the gradework, and when they were actually paving. I always received a "Yes sir, we'll take care of that," "We can do that," "No problem, sir." None of what I wanted was actually communicated to the crew, though. In hind sight, it seems like they didn't even care what I, the paying customer, wanted. The contractor seemed like they were only concerned with putting asphalt down as quickly as they could and moving on to the next job. In fact, half way into paving, they actually admitted to me they can't do what they initially told me they could. They also said they would fix the ruts their equipment put in my yard, but they didn't. They said they would clean up before they left, but I still had to pick up empty water bottles and cups, gloves, and countless cigarette butts. When they left my house, they actually drove through some fresh asphalt and put 2-3" deep ruts in the surface. I'm really not satisfied with the whole experience. The professionalism was non-existent. The quality of the work is lacking. I don't recommend this contractor to anyone. Stay away from A-1. read more
