I can't comment on any services other than their passport photos, but our family has been going here for over two decades, and they do a great job. They are fast, knowledgeable of what they are doing, and have pride in making sure that they get it done correctly and satisfactory according to US passport laws. (They also take photos that meet other countries' and agencies' requirements.) [[HIGHLIGHT]]We recently went, and my son's collar was twisted, and she took a moment to make sure I had the opportunity to fix it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When my first kid was still under one, they helped us figure out a way to take his photo at home (dozens of photos on a white blanket), and then they were able to select the one that fit strict criteria, crop it and smooth out the background for us before printing. I would say one thing to be aware of is that they are not always open right when the posted hours claim. I would call first before heading over. The waiting area could be updated a bit, but it is fine. read more

They transferred over 400 tapes for me, U-matic, VHS, Hi-8, digital 8, audio cassette, micro cassette, HDV -- I'm convinced they can handle any media, any format, anything at all. A lot of the tapes had audio errors, and so they re-transferred all those tapes again, free of charge -- even thought the tapes were faulty. They are the best. Diligent, detailed, and service oriented. I was so impressed that I'm going back to them for a massive family archive project of a lifetime of media. read more

A1 Photo is not welcoming to children. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff member (larger white man) was rude and pushy, and said it would not work from the moment we walked in to take a passport photo for our child.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He said "from my experience, he's not going to want to stop crying" before trying. He then asked my 17 month old to be sat on a wobbly round stool, making balance very difficult. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked if I could hold him or stand next to him, and the staff refused.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are ways to do this professionally, such as holding the infant on your lap and putting a white background behind them. Or holding them up on the stool and ducking behind them. The man was rushed us to leave because "I have work to do" and did not take the photo. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He prompted my child to start crying.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I do not recommend this establishment. In California, children may not be discriminated and refused service fie their age. The Unruh Civil Rights Act requires "full and equal accommodations, advantages, facilities, privileges or services in all business establishments." read more

I have loads of 35 mm film negatives that I haven't yet scanned digitally. I needed a select number of frames for a high school reunion, and went through the hassle of looking through tons of negatives to pick out the right ones. I'd already taken the whole package of negatives, notes and flash drives to Digital Roots, but they don't do selective scanning anymore. So, working with A1 Photo Lab was a dream! I brought my nikon FE film camera here to get repaired and I wouldn't recommend them. Originally I was told it would take about 2 weeks to repair, but after 2 weeks I called them and they told me that they didn't know the status of my camera as the tech had it with them and they would call me back after speaking with them. A week later, after they didn't follow up, I called again and was told that they still didn't know the status of my camera and would let me know once the tech came in that day. I never received a call back. This went on for a while. It ended up being $180 to fix and took over 6 weeks. And the mirror is all scratched up now - which doesn't affect the film but still feels incredibly wrong that my equipment came back damaged. read more

**Hard pass for vintage audio component repair** I thought I'd give this place a try so I dropped off a tape deck and paid the $30 bench fee. I didn't hear back from A-1 for 3 months so I called the office and left a message. The shop phoned back to inform me that the OFF SITE tech had assessed my component and was going to look for the replacement part. Then, 2 months later, I received a call that the OFF SITE tech could not source the part and that I had ONE week to pick up my component or it was going to be trashed/recycled. I rushed over to pick up my vintage tape deck to discover that 3 of the 5 housing screws were missing and one had been threaded sideways. I requested info on the missing screws but the attendant said they could not provide any further information due to the shop's practice of subcontracting component repair work to an OFF SITE tech. *Pro Tip: Go to an actual hi-fi audio repair shop instead of dealing with store front contractors, you'll hear back sooner and not run across missing parts* read more

I expected to have a great experience with A1 because they did an excellent service, especially to Josh who helped me out to come up with my edited 30 minute video showcased in DVD. He charged me the same price as the regular DVD transfer service. That was several months ago and this time, I looked for Josh because he is such a nice guy and really cares about his customers. Unfortunately he is no longer working here so I only talked to their new employee behind the counter. I'm very disappointed because it turned out the they're not doing that kind of job, just because it's not included on their price list. I asked to seek help from store manager but it's not around for lunch. The manager or the business owner should train their employees on how to be more competitive and to face their clients in an appropriate manner, and this is the important thing, you should learn how to make ways on dealing with these kind of order no matter what. I really regret that I recommended this store to my friends. So I left that store and never coming back! ------UPDATE------ Response from Business Owner, Gulshan B. Sent thru private message: Hi Carolina, I am so sorry for your experience. This is the first I've heard about this. I'd like to resolve this and help you out however I can. I try to train all my employees to know that not everything we can do is going to be listed in our price list and if they are ever unsure of something and I'm not around to call me since I always have my phone on me. Is there anything I can do to make this experience better for you? My response: Reviews must be public, so you should reply publicly. Don't hide out with your damn answer. But anyway, whatever you're saying is completely a lie! I saw with my two eyes that my recent experience with your lame business is completely different to when I first came in.
