Two minutes later they came out and said they'd needed to rebuild the whole faucet and it would be $395 to fix. I'm like there's nothing wrong with the faucet, we called for the leaky pipe under the sink. They went back in for a second look and found the real reason they were called. When done fixing the leak they asked if we had any other plumbing needs? I said no. They said they were told we also had a leaky shower. I said no. Not wanting to take no for an answer they said that's what they were told. I said there's nothing wrong with the shower. Upon leaving one of them said "There you go," and left. We had A-1 replace a yard hydrant that was leaking badly. The installers were fast and efficient and the office staff friendly. The reason I am giving three stars is because the poor quality of the hydrant they installed. There is no pressure regulation so the hydrant is either off or on full blast. The old hydrant had excellent pressure regulation. When I called to ask if there was some way to get pressure regulation I was told that I would have to buy an additional piece of equipment to control the flow to my sprinkler. We paid $400 to have a faucet replaced and we still need to spend money to get pressure regulation.​ read more

Had a washing machine drain overflowing and called A-1 and they sent 2 plumbers within an hour. The 2 plumbers spent 4 hours trying to fix the problem and never even fixed the clogged drain. They tried to add more on to my bill and just decide to charge me $200 dollars to leave without fixing the problem! The best thing they did for me was they gave me the number to Action Drain and Rooter and They fixed the clogged drain in a half hour and cost $92.50! They replaced the workings inside tank, which probably did not need to be done, and charged us an additional $293.00 for that as well. On 10/25/2021 my wife called to get a technician out to our home to replace a meter valve in our basement ,the employee at A-1 Plumbing lied and sent work order back to Nipsco Home solutions .My wife got finally got a scheduled appt on 10/30/2021 SATURDAY Between 12 and 6pm ,the technician went downstairs with me and told me the meter valve wasnt covered and he also couldnt shut water off outside i told him i would do it he went to his van and came back and said he could shut water per his Boss. in our contract with Nipsco Home Solutions it says "included leaks or breaks in water plumbing supply system and drainage system INCLUDING SHUT OFF VALVES on fixtures and the removal of clogs from the drianage system." The tech got here at 5:30 pm he kept saying the meter was not covered ,he finally left at 6:30 pm and NOTHING got done the job probably 15 to 30 minutes to do wasnt even a thought in the eyes of A-1 Plumbing. I'm sorry to have to give a bad review of A1 Plumbing, but we are extremely disappointed in the pricing from this company. We were having new flooring installed in 3 bathrooms, utility room and kitchen. We had to have the toilets removed and then a plumber was required to reinstall them. We had 2 bathroom floors finished, and called A1 to reinstall the toilets. This is a very simple, quick job. The 2 guys who arrived gave my husband an estimate of $199 per toilet to reinstall. He thought that was high, so after looking him over they said they'd give him a "Senior Discount". Because we were in need of at least one working toilet before the 3rd one could be removed, we had to agree. The work took about 15 minutes and we paid a bill of $360. While the plumbers were here my husband asked a question to seek an opinion about a problem we were having with a kitchen sink faucet. Jeff, one of the repairmen, gave us a long detailed spiel about how we should buy a new one from A1, and the quote we received from them was about $600. He did say we could check at George Morland plumbing for a replacement head for the faucet, if my husband wanted to do the work himself. My husband got online and saw on YouTube how it might be fixed -- he tried it and within one minute repaired the faucet himself!! He didn't have to buy anything. He'll be glad to show the plumbers how to fix this problem. Yesterday our third bathroom floors were finished. We had hired another plumber to come today to reinstall the toilet. His estimate for the work was $80. As it turned out, he was here for about 15 minutes, and said he didn't feel he could charge $80 for such an "easy" job. He gave us a bill for $60, A1 charged us 3 times that much for installing a toilet, which included a "senior discount". We are so disappointed by what we feel is price gouging. My husband called the company and complained a week ago, and all they said was that they always give the customer a quote ahead of the job -- which, by the way, costs $39.95. If you choose to not go with them, you lose that fee; if you hire them you are not charged that amount. The work was not at issue at all. They do fine work and the guys were friendly and nice. Calling A1 Plumbing was a $5,000 mistake. We own a business near downtown and had a problem with an upstairs urinal. Called A1, they inspected the urinal and told us it needed a hard-to-get part that cost about $500, and they didn't have it in stock. That was on Friday. Over the weekend... the urinal (which A1 had manipulated in order to inspect) leaked ALL OVER THE FLOOR (upstairs! hundreds of gallons!) and the water went through the floor/ceiling and trashed the downstairs office. Called Judson Plumbing and they fixed the urinal in 15 minutes, with a part they had on their truck. Cost us over $5,000 to repair the damage to the building. A1 refused to pay for this, as did their insurance company. Need I say more? read more

I had them out twice in late 2019 and was happy with their service. They worked with me on scheduling the jobs, and stayed within the estimated time they quoted me for each job. I only have one bathroom and didn't want it unavailable for more than an hour each time, and they got it done in the time they said. While replacing fixtures they found some old connector pipes that needed replacing, they did that within time and cost quoted. They were courteous and easy to have in my house. Not impressed. First they charged me $200 to come to my business and look at my water heater. Second they did not fix the problem, but simply reset the unit by pressing the red button on the unit. I called them back to get them out to actually fix the unit instead of what they did. The person on the phone said they would have the technician call me back to discuss what they can do to help fix it. To date they have not called me back. That was two weeks ago. I had another company come out and fix the problem for the same price A-1 Plumbing charged me they did not fix the problem. I would look elsewhere as they are more expensive then their competitors and they simply pick and choose the projects they work by not calling potential clients back. We had a water leak about 4 feet from the meter. We hired a professional leak detector to come out and locate and mark it. I had A1 plumbing come out for an estimate which they charged me $39.00. The estimator said $4,000 for a new line to be put in, which he was pushing for, or between $1,200-$2,400 to just repair the leak. I called Judsons. Super people to work with! I used this company on 3 different occasions ALL with the almost retired Frank. Very personable and professional.

They came out and got the job done, but the per-service pricing (versus hourly) is insane. More than $500 for 90 minutes of work. Yes, the job is quoted before the work starts, but it was either take it on the chin or send a plumber away and starting the process again. We felt at a disadvantage through the whole process. EDIT: We are now in the process of opening a CCB complaint. When we initially called A1, we asked them to level a belly in a pipe that is under the house but accessible (i.e., above ground). This was based on a diagnosis from a previous tech; A1 was provided with that invoice and repair history. A1 quoted that they would look under the house for $199--which wouldn't have covered any work; just the look. The tech also insisted that the belly wasn't the problem and proceeded toward the $510 "service" described above. Two days later, the problem recurred: high water level when flushing the toilet, which is resolved by vigorous plunging and which seems to be consistent with a clog settling into a belly. In addition, the tech left a pair of soiled gloves on the premises, which should kick in the we-will-clean-up-or-you-get-your-money-back clause of the guarantee. We detailed these issues through several voicemails and emails, and one phone call. They were not willing to negotiate or to provide further details. When I asked for a counter offer or further explanation, his response was "I am not going to give you any money back because it would be useless to do so. " They did not even offer to return and take another look until they received our notice to file a complaint. We said no to that, both because that time had passed and because we do not feel comfortable allowing them back onto our property. We did sign off on the work, based on the insistence of and information provided by the tech, as well as the urgency of the situation. We're not sure how much room that leaves for us to fight this. But hopefully this will at least help others as they research local plumbers and plumbing services. read more
