They sent my registration renewal to my old Concord address. By the time I updated my address on the DMV website and had to wait the three business days to ensure that it went through my car registration had expired. After speaking to the lady with DMV, she told me that I will need to make an appointment (first available was a month and a half later) and pay a late fee. Instead, I decided to walk into AAA and see if I can renew my registration there. I was done in less than five minutes, got my stickers and didn't pay a late fee! The pain-free hassle alone is worth the membership!

I think my model year (2000+) may have something to do with the price. Brought in my car soon after. After it's written up, I found the person is very NOT helpful and curt. While I wanted, he insisted that the car must stay idle. My engine did nothing but continually run for 45 minutes, at $6+per gallon of gas!! I later learned that model year 2000 or newer, only the car's data stored in ECU (Engine Control Unit) is scanned for SMOG purposes. No need to warm up the engine to the hilt. This unnecessary action only shortens engine life. In the end, car did not pass SMOG for oxygen sensor not ready reason, I inquired whether re-test is free, like many other stations. He said no and pointed to a sign on the wall saying it will cost $100+. So, no passing certificate and no refund for the $8.25 certificate that I already paid for. So, go to this station, if you must. BTW, my retest was done at SF STAR SMOG, Dave was great. Helpful, polite, professional.
