I normally do not write bad reviews as you can see from my post history but the service here was subpar at best. Food was good but service was lacking. First, they talked about special pizzas on the menu and said they would check if the specials were still available. Got zero updates on that. No biggie Next, we ordered the fried olives and as the server brought them to our table, many of them dropped on the floor and table. She did apologize and said she would bring more. All good. Well, she never did bring us any and forced us to have to bring it up once our main courses arrived. Would have not expected anything if she did not offer ( I can understand round olives rolling off a plate so not a big deal), but also, you dropped half our appetizer on the floor..how could you forget? Lastly, when we finished, we asked if we could have some of the hot oil to go for our left-over pizza that we took to go (soo damn good!), she said "that's not possible" What??? When I door dashed this place EVERY pizza came with a side of the oil. I really think she was being vengeful for asking about the fried olives. Once we got the bill, we saw a 20% tip is included. Guess they have no motivation to be helpful since tip is included. Better to just get this place to go vs dine in. Been here twice. First time got the meatballs they are excellent the only standout. They undercooked the spring trout for me. Everything else wasn't terribly special. Funny enough it wasn't on the menu this time I went! The service wasn't great second time around she may have checked in on us 3-4 times over two hours. We had to keep asking for water. It really is just overpriced pizza at this place. Just go to Zachary's for pizza or Townhouse in emeryville for the same Italian ish type food that's 10x better. Drinks were spot on. The people that ordered at the same time as me received all their food before I saw anything. Even a couple that ordered 10 minutes after me was nearly done before I began to see any food. My appetizer was accidentally sent to the wrong table after what was already a long wait. When it finally reached me it was cold . Sent it back for what I hoped was a quick warm up in the pan. Surprisingly my main dish came out before my appetizer. After waiting 30 minutes for all this to go down I threw in the towel and said there were too many mistakes for a place looking like this and charging what they do. Note: agreeing with previous comments that the calamari appetizer only had 4 small overcooked pieces with loads of cold beans. Way over priced at $20. Trout came out and while I didn't taste it it looked rather sad with out dated presentation not to mention not looking freshly cooked. WOW. Words cannot describe how amazing this pizza is. 5 of us shared 4 pizzas and it was perfect. The favorite is the estate with fresh corn and fresno chili's. Second favorite is the salsiccia - the sausage and broccoli were perfectly complimentary. Third came the carciofi had a nice hint of lemon. As my father describes, if a lemon and an artichoke got married in Italy, it would be this pizza. Finally, the margherita pizza, basic but still amazing. The crusts were the perfect balance between thick and thin crust. DONT FORGET TO ADD A SIDE OF CALABRIAN CHILI OIL!! A perfect addition to add a little bit of heat to all the pizzas. They both paired great with a delicious Nero D'Avola. Great service, wonderful waiters, and not a long wait! Could not recommend this place more! I've been to the A16 in San Francisco and was very pleased with the staff, service, food, and experience. Unfortunately the one in Oakland fell very short. Firstly, staff had no urgency so sit us and mind you were the only customers at the start of their dinner. It felt like we had to drag our feet so that we didn't have to run into the waitress sitting us down. We waited 15 minutes and had to flag someone down just to get us water and the shortly then did we get the menu. We also ordered drinks and the server was again slow as a slug to get and deliver. mind he just had a scowl look on his face again first customers of the day and that was the experience. And no there wasn't only two servers but roughly 6 to 8 conjugating in the front and chit chatting and looking outside. The food....they served the pasta from the first batch and it was heavy in salt. We had to turn it away. We were told it was the first batch and they tasted it and did find it salty. Just terrible service all around. Will not visit this location. read more

I would say it's okay. Best thing there is their tiramisu. Pizza is average. Ambiance is great. One thing I really don't like is all the surcharges they add to the bill. My cousin went to eat at A16 with his father and nephew. He doesn't have the capability of posting on Yelp so I'm doing it for him They ordered burrata, sautéed calamari as appetizers, and no bread was offered after being requested, I was told that the crackers were enough. The burrata was dry and the calamari was extremely fishy as if it was old. My father and I shared a ribeye steak, medium rare with a side of beans. The steak was good but the beans were bland. They also brought a side of potatoes which we didn't order. My nephew ordered the margarita pizza, which arrived after my father and I were finished with our entire meal. Luckily, they brought the potatoes by accident so he had something to eat. My nephew was eating his pizza while my father and I were on dessert and coffee. Not a great way to serve dinner. I informed the Asian female manager about our situation, and rather than attempting to make it better. She simply said I'm sorry and walked away. The waiter also apologized, but rather than offering something on the house like a dessert or coffee they did nothing. We typically tip 20% but since the service was also not great, we tipped 15%. If this restaurant is too busy, I would recommend you stay away because it's obvious that they cannot handle a large amount of customers. I frequent A16 in San Francisco quite often and the food and service has always been excellent and I've never had this type of issue. read more

Heavily overpriced with poor execution. Burnt food. Boring menu. Average pizzas. Steak was ok, just not $40 ok. However reduced tomato sauce on it was the star. Lamb pasta tasted like dish soap. The waiter was kind enough to refund our money as we had to send that dish back. Fried olives were terrible. Wine was great. 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill. I knew my last experience must have been an anomaly and wanted to give this another try. I'm so glad we did. this experience was basically the opposite, in every good way, as my first visit. the front room is beautiful. the front room is vibrant and the wood tables and chairs, art work and high ceilings make for a warm, but lively atmosphere. service was fantastic throughout. the wine list is extensive and the server was really helpful helping us pair glasses of wine with our meal highly recommended: the burrata, and fried cauliflower. they had miyagi oysters last night and they were super fresh. we ordered a dozen and could have eaten at least one more, but at $4 per oyster, that would have been too much the bucatini pasta comes with uni and a creamy sauce. so good. probably the standout for us last night was the braised chicken. this is the second time recently we ordered chicken in a nice restaurant and weren't disappointed. so moist and perfectly cooked with apricot salsa and mustard greens definitely back on my list of great Oakland restaurants. we'll be back! read more

The serving sizes are small by American standards and if you have a large appetite you will need to order a few things. On our visit we had the gnocchi, margarita pizza, farrow salad, bread pudding, and hen mushrooms. My favorite dish was the hen mushrooms. I also liked the farrow salad for a light and refreshing salad choice. The pizza here is good and i agree that this one of the better places to go for a nepalese style pizza. read more

I'm going to give this place 3 stars because I've been here before and it was awesome. However, I came here last Saturday for their Christmas Eve prefixe and the food was just bad. We didn't get seated until almost an hour after our reservation. No big deal. Big night, restaurant was clearly swamped and the host was extremely nice and apologetic. So we started with a drink at the bar. Drinks were great and bartender was friendly. Once we got seated our server was great but stressed, however she still did a great job. The food was just plain bad. The seafood salad was almost inedible. They also missed one of the wine pairings, appeared to have been the runner's fault not the server. Again not a big deal. After choking down all the courses, we got the check and it was $1,200 for four people. Again, it's a nice spot and I'm fine with a big check for a special meal at a special restaurant but I could barely make it through the food. Hope this was just an off night but if I have another experience like this last one, I won't go back. read more

This place used to be a go-to for special occasions but no longer. We decided to celebrate New Years Eve at A16 and the dining room looked beautiful and festive. Unfortunately, the restaurant was not well staffed or prepared for the evening and our experience left little to be desired. We ordered a bottle of champagne and sat nibbling on our olives while we waited for 30 minutes for our drinks. Finally, the waitress came to tell us that the bottle we ordered was being chilled. Why offer a bottle of champagne on the menu if it is not chilled and ready to be served - on New Years Eve??? Waitress finally brought over 2 complementary glasses of bubbles and we ordered a different bottle instead of what we wanted. The salad came and was the high point of the meal. Nice portion, tasty and fresh. The pizza was lukewarm and the crab pasta with broccolini came with only a few flecks of green and way too much breadcrumbs and crab which made the dish dry and unpleasant. We ordered gelato for desert which was lovely and one espresso. They charged us for 2 coffees we never ordered and forgot to charge us for one of the dishes and brought us the wrong box of leftovers. Service was confused and food was just okay. There are so many great options for Italian dining in Oakland, choose any of those over A16 read more

Cute spot good food gotta shout out to Beatrice our server she was awesome and so attentive. Our second time here so decided to come back. My party of 7 dropped $700 buck plus gratuity to have the manager Gemma tell us we were "too loud". She said there was a complaint from another table, likely racist. We were seated next to a party of 10 and they were just as loud and even banging their table with their fist. YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2018 - PART 2: 88/100 Came through for a random date night with the Hubbers. I've eyed this place for a little over a year so I was a teenee bit excited we finally got to go. We just came off from another spot for a quick happy hour (which included a couple of drinks and apps) so we didn't go too crazy with starters here. But we still wanted something light, so we opted for the oysters. Half dozen it is - 3 marin miyagis, 3 kusshi oysters. Both were fresh and good, but on a personal taste preference, Hubbers and I much preferred the miyagis. For main courses, Hubbers chose the salsiccia pizze, I went for the bucatini. The appearance of our dishes were a bit unimpressive, so we didn't expect much. But then, I took a bite of the bucatini and was surprised at how much flavor was packed on something so simple appearing. The pasta was cooked al dente. Although I might agree with Hubbers when he thought it was a bit undercooked, it was still above par. The pizza was served uncut, but it came with a pair of scissors. This was a first for both of us, so there was a bit of a chuckle coming off our table. Then we realized how smart of a move that was - you can cut your piece however size or shape your heart desires! Brilliant! Pizza looked bready, or doughy, or however one might one to call it, but like the pasta, each slice had some concealed flavors our naked eyes couldn't see. Dessert wasn't bad either. (For the life of me, I can't seem to remember what it's called.) I'm not much of a sweets person, but Hubbers and I enjoyed it. Service was above average. Our server wasn't noticeably missing nor was she too attentive. It was just right. What helped boost this dinner date was the $20 discount courtesy of Open Table. FOOD: 4.5. SERVICE: 4.5. *Happy hour review only* *3.5 stars* When I think of A16, I think of a modern, upscale, and classy establishment. It's really the perfect fit for Rockridge! A16 is an Italian restaurant and bar located in the heart of downtown Rockridge off of College Ave. I've passed A16 so many times, but never actually went in until now! I'm always on the hunt for a good happy hour deal. So, when I found out that A16 had happy hour until 6:30, I decided to give them a try. I got there just after 5, and it seemed that the staff was still engaged in a team meeting. The host still welcomed me in, and I took a seat at the bar. The bar was gorgeous but the dining area was even more beautiful! The tables were of a rustic wood composition and all set with fancy wine glasses and fine china. There was a separate area that wrapped around the kitchen and provided counter style seating. I was greeted by the bartender with a wine list as well as their "apertivi" menu which is what they call their happy hour. The happy hour menu is a bit limited but still offered some nice discounts on wine, beer, cocktails, and a few different appetizers. I was in the mood for wine and I spotted their Sangiovese for $8 a glass! Score! I love Sangiovese and opted for a glass of it. The pour was decent, but not generous. It was what an $8 glass of wine should look like, but I was being greedy because it tasted so good! I eyeballed the meatballs and the burrata and decided to order both. While I waited, they delivered a little bowl of complimentary bar snacks that included chips, salami, olives, and nuts. All of the snacks are quite tasty and I really enjoyed the salami. People started to pour in around 5:30 and the bar was full before I knew it! My appetizers came and I was ready to try them. First up were the meatballs, and the consistency was perfect! They were baked to perfection and smothered in an Italian red sauce and covered in grana padano cheese. They were classic Italian meatballs and tasted just as such. I like my meatballs a bit more spicy and seasoned, but all in all, they were pretty tasty. Next up was the burrata. It was silky and creamy; the perfect compliment to the crunchy bread crackers. It was topped with various seasoning but again, I felt that it could have used a tad bit more in my opinion. Service was wonderful and the bartender checked on me several times while I was there. Although the appetizers were yummy, they barely left a dent in my tummy. Happy hour here is truly ONLY happy hour! Don't come for happy hour expecting to get full off of these appetizers unless you're planning on ordering 5 of each. This is primarily an Italian restaurant, so I'm sure the happy hour is really more so to reel people in to actually dine there. I plan on coming back to try out their regular menu in the future. This restaurant is super close to my job, so it's really convenient for me to get here. This is definitely a great place to take a date or a significant other. It was 7 of us celebrating my bday having our fun time on a Saturday, and all of a sudden, the manager came over and talk to one of my friend and told us to quite down because someone in the room were complained about us being "too loud". There was another big group of parties, right next to us and 3 small tables are around the 2 big groups. So, the manager decided to just come to our table to be quiet and not go saying anything to the other big group since we are both big and "loud." The staff is incredibly rude. I was down in Rockeidge dealing with my father-in-laws house because he died suddenly. We order pizza online and I came to pick it up 20mins after it said it would be ready. The hostess didn't say hi made be wait 15 mins just to tell me after the wait it would be 20 more mins for the pizza (by the way no hi or pleasantries) so went outside to wait. I came back in 20 mins later (giving them extra time) and it still wasn't ready. She chewed me out about how they only had pizza cook and too many online orders. I'm not sure how either of those things were my fault (meanwhile we are dealing with massive loss in the family). Do not go here. I just had a delicious dinner here and I am surprised by the amount of negative reviews on Yelp. I was expecting this place to be rated close to 5 stars overall. But honestly after reading through some of these reviews the expression, "consider the source" comes to mind, as I noted that many of the negative reviews complain about the included 20% service charge. Really?! What are these people normally tipping when they go out? 20% is standard and has been for as long as I can remember. Also, the prices are reasonable for the quality and location and this is upscale pizza, not Pizza Hut. Contrary to some other reviews, the pizzas are not "personal size", they are sized to share--along with a side or a starter and the pizzas are not party-style pizzas, there is a focus on bold flavor. If you know how to dine in this decade, you will appreciate A16. We can't wait to come back and try more of their dishes! read more

Awesome place for some VPN pizza. If you don't know about VPN it basically means a high standard of Neapolitan pizza (thin crust, specialty ingredients). The pizza was so delicious. Everything tasted really high quality. We got the Salciccia/sausage and Vesuvio/smoked salami. Pizza sauces were so good, pizza dough was thin and crunchy. We also got the Kohlrabi salad which was super refreshing and light! For drinks we got the citrusy Monks dream. We were very disappointed with the service and food. We went on 10/22/22 at 7.30 pm. We were seated and forgotten. Finally we were able to flag a waiter and she took the orders and then disappeared. We had to get her attention again and remind her. She forgot the side order for bread--had to flag a different waiter to get bread. Finally, after waiting for another 30 minutes --- she got the Pizza the underside of which was completely burnt and the pizza was bitter in taste. After being Bummed out about being a Victim of Crime. I decided I needed a good meal . So I jumped in my Whip Black Beauty and Rolled out to A16 . I was able to find parking down the street . I street Hiked to A16 and I was greeted by the Hostess . I asked what was available and she offered me a seat at the Chefs Table which I accepted Happily . I like to watch people cook. I was greeted at my chair by my Server Sara a very attractive Brunette with long hair . She was a very nice and friendly person . Sara suggested several different items on the Menu . I went with a Mexican Coke for a Beverage . I ordered the Roasted Calamari -Lovage salsa verde,fried corona beans . That was very tasty and earthy. I ordered next the Chefs Anti Pasti Selection -Ricotta+dragoncello- Summer Squash+ Sardines-Pork Meatballs+ pickled green strawberry. This was light and refreshing and tasty. My Server Sara was awesome very attentive and helpful with menu suggestions. Next I ordered a Pizza -salsiccia+ vongole savoury clams in the shell, shallot,lemonzest parsley,sausage and prosciuttodi parma.. This was cooked in their Imported Mosaic wood fired brick oven from Naples Italy. The pizza definitely hit the spot very yummy . Amazingly the Pizza Shears worked very good . For Dessert I ordered 3 scoops of Berry Sorbet .My Server Sara brought my 3 Scoops of Berry Sorbet and a Bonus Scoop of Orange Sorbet . What an Angel !! The Sorbet was Heaven in a Bowl Yummy .
