This is the kind of place where I was the only person around who wasn't a South Indian. The setting is amply decorated, but it isn't the nicest building. There is limited parking in front and more if you navigate around to the back. While the menu was broad, I thought a basic sampler platter of South Indian breakfast specials would fit the bill for me, and it did. While the vada and dosa are the items you'd come for, I found these a bit bland and not ideally fresh. The kichadi and pongal were actually much better. This isn't an easy cuisine to find generally, but in this suburban Virginia region there is a ton of it and I've had better experiences.

Ambiance: Very South Indian traditional interiors, and the service is always great here. I have visited this place atleast 6-7times. Food: we ordered pongal vadai, ghee pongal, mini tiffin, chole bature and sweet corn soup. Sweet corn soup was average. Ghee pongal was just amazing!! It's a must try, just melts in the mouth. Mini tiffin was also very delicious. Chole bature here is my all time favorite. Flavors are amazing and the taste is consistent every time. My only concern is the chutney quantities are barely anything and they charge you for extra chutney and chole. Despite this we go there as the food tastes great. I really hope they up their chutney quantities soon. Parking: There are a few parking spots around the restaurant. The church parking can also be used.

The menu at A2B has always drawn us -- even prompting us to drive 2 hours. It's rooted in South Indian favourites but as it happens with most restaurants, the menu now covers the whole gamut of indian food. I hate to say this but given the large menu, it's quite evident that they are freezing and storing the food longer eventually serving stale food. In particular, the portion of mini tiffins and sweet corn soup we ordered didn't feel fresh. Maybe this was because we ordered this late on a Tuesday night. We hope this was a one off thing because we've had absolutely delightful food at A2B.

We brought our entire family here to celebrate Father's Day. When you walk in the ambiance isn't bad and it's a nice open space. The food however is mediocre complimented with awkward service. For instance, the traditional South Indian food like Dosa and uthapam lacked flavor. The potato filling (masala) that goes in the dosa was also very bland. My father ordered a rava dosa wasn't crispy at all. On a positive note, the chutneys were very tasty and the North Indian (Punjabi) food was very good as well. From a service aspect, it was strange because when we asked to get an extra side of something and asking if we can pay out of pocket for it, the restaurant said "no we cannot do that." I ran out of the small cup of chole that came with my disproportional amount of chole / bhatura. I asked if I can pay for one more side of bhatura and I was told that it's not possible for them to do that. I don't understand why.... Overall, it's an average place with higher prices than other competitors in the area.

A nice hole in the handicap spot...

We happen to be in Herndon and decided to stop by to check out this restaurant. We have been here many times, but when it was a different restaurant (name) each time. The staff was extremely friendly and very professional. They all wore matching vests and were very efficient and quick with taking orders, handing them out, etc. The decorations were so elaborate as well. Only 2 bad things I noticed 1) there was a huge hole in the asphalt (on the handicap spot) and the window sills were slightly dusty. I already had it in my mind to order the South Indian Thali even though I didn't know what half the items were (I wasn't crazy about most of them) but I still ate it anyway. I definitely would return to try out other South Indian dishes; I do wish I looked at all the other items because there was such a variety of South Indian dishes!

Service is prompt and ambiance is buzzing with a lively crowd including lots of kids. Very typical Indian restaurant Food itself was ok, nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. We'll try other South Indian options in the area

A2B was a great experience! The restaurant looks nice and is clean. The service staff was nice and friendly, and we were well taken care of. The food was delicious. I feel like you can't go wrong with whatever foods you order. I really enjoyed the paneer tikka and mysore masala dosa, but like I said everything was delicious. I advise ordering appetizers first, and waiting to order your main course items after you've received your appetizers. Otherwise, everything might come out all at once and get cold.

While you're on a road trip and foodie, you're more concerned about the good food and imagine what will happen you found the right place that you desire. Guess what, I found the place I wanted, A2B at Herndon. I have already visited the place in New York before so I'm sure I won't get disappoint this time as well with the taste, and to my surprise it is much more delicious than the branch I visited before. The ambience, the service, the hygiene and of course, food - everything was excellent. We started with sambhar vada and cocktail idli. I can't forget the taste, so delicious. Then for the main course I ordered my favorite Bisi-Bele-Bhuth and oh my god it was so yummy and satisfying. The other items we ordered were bonda, Mysore masala dosa, paper dosa, idiyappam. All were too good. A strong recommendation for those who love South Indian food. If you're in Virginia, do visit the place. And in the end we ordered madras filter coffee and I end up having two. Everything is perfect. Thank you for the hospitality and kudos to the chefs. Keep up the excellent taste and keep feeding us. Cheers, Amey P.

(People can skip this HISTORY part and go directly to the main review part down below if you are not interested to know why I went there and why am I super qualified to write this review) HISTORY: It would be a crime if I haven't visited this place coming all the way from Atlanta and even more since I'm from Madras! Yes the home of Adyar Ananda Bhavan. The closing time was I think 9:30 (Kitchen closing) and these people were courteous enough to accommodate us even though we made it at 9:40PM. Most Indian restaurants are strict with Kitchen timings and they would turn us away even if we reach by 9:29PM. Happened with me at Delhi Dhaba, WashingtonDC even though I reached several minutes before the Kitchen closing time! Anyways coming on to this restaurant in Virginia. A2B is a well reputed and your "GO-TO" restaurant if you are traveling from CHENNAI towards down south Tamil Nadu. They are safe, hygienic and taste amazing! I have travelled a lot and this is my safe bet restaurant in Tamil Nadu, India. So I decided to pay this restaurant a visit since I'm on a travel along the east coast! ACTUAL REVIEW: The name board everything seems the same, and the atmosphere was too good. Well maintained and classy. It was crowded and it's obvious for a Saturday night. Ordered a Mini tiffin which included a huge Dosa, Vadai, few mini Idlis, Pongal and Rava Kichdi alongside Sambar and Chutney. To be honest, nothing really tasted like the A2B I have visited in India. The sambar was completely upside down and tasted sweet. Dosa was super duper dry but was crispy. Vadai was the outstanding good thing I would say. Pongal was equally good and I just had a spoon of Rava kichdi and I wasn't impressed at all. Most importantly then realized I don't see any savories or sweets like they sell in New Jersey A2B and probably I think they are just maintaining the franchise name but the owner or proprietor is totally a new or a different person. The food was very average over all. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are super craving for mediocre South Indian food. On top of that we ordered Lemon and Tamarind rice for our journey next day (Road trip to NY). Guess what both the mixed rices were too good! Im not sure if that's because of travel or something, they tasted like how exactly they should taste! With sambar on the sides, this was totally different and much better to the dinner we had. BOTTOM LINE: One time visit. Great atmosphere and ambience. Ordinary food, nothing great. Honestly doesn't do justice to the A2B back in CHENNAI, India. Possible it's not the original A2B and taken over by someone else. MUST TRY: Medhu Vadai, Pongal, Tamarind rice (Shhh! Strictly for road trips only)

The quality of food has surprisingly been consistent every visit. The cleanliness under the table and the unsafe blind strings hanging around takes out a star for otherwise a first class place for authentic south Indian vegetarian food. Service has been effective irrespective of the different servers we meet almost every visit.

First of all, the service is impeccable; from the moment, I walked in, the host and manager were both so kind and hospitable in a way that felt natural, while also going above and beyond. And the decor: easily the most beautiful restaurant I have ever been in. Full stop. Just a fun experience, without even getting into food and drink. There isn't a bad seat in the restaurant, and I would even want to come sit at the fun bar. Ok, food and drink. I got a sangria, which was easily as good as any you would find in a Spanish restaurant--not too sweet. They have a fun "street food" appetizers section that isn't on most Indian menus--we got the dilli ki shaan, which were kind of like potato salad in a crispy shell? And for my main, I had the coconut machi curry with fish--omigod, it was so flavorful!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. My friend got the mewa murg tikka, and I think that delicious, flavorful, savory, smokey chicken may have even been better than my dish. The habanero and cheese naans were also pretty good. I can't wait to go back, though my biggest challenge will be whether to order the same dish or try something new!

It's like being given naan, but seemed like a hard shell tortilla. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking!!! The staff were super kind and provided tons of complimentary treats included such as chai, champagne, rice pudding. Although not the best quality tasting Indian food in the area and a bit pricey we got more than our money worth with all the complimentary treats. The cheese naan wasn't fluffy and cheesy. The tikka masala was a bit too sweet and flavor wasn't quite there. I asked for some spice and they provided green Thai chili and a red paste which helped! We ordered: Mango Lasi 7/10 Mint mojito 8/10 Tikka Masala 7/10 Lamb Josh Rogan 8.5/10 Cheese naan 7/10 Provided complimentary: Two cups of champagne Chai Rice pudding I'll come back and try more items, it could've been an off day for the kitchen.

It's conveniently located in Reston Town Center inside the Hyatt Regency hotel. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh. Inside, the space is spacious and modern, and the service is quite good. Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a letdown. The kale salad and the mango & avocado salad were just okay, and the chat papadi was disappointing. Both chicken dishes we ordered, the chicken tandoor and chicken sekuwa, were average at best, and the Alu mutter tasted a bit strange. The Dal Makhani was the only decent dish and the saving grace of the meal. Additionally, the portion sizes for both the dal and the Alu mutter felt small for the price. Because the location is so fantastic, we will give them another chance on a weekday when it is less crowded.
