So, we have not been here for a while. The place has changed hands. While the menu is the same, the service is terrible. The service used to be quick and efficient. Now it is slow and it is really hard to get someone's attention. The food was still pretty good. A little different than it used to be, but still pretty good. The service is bad. At the end, they also have a $5 charge for using credit cards. I have no issue with the charge, but it should be disclosed upfront and not sprung on the customer at the very end. Very unfortunate about the service, since this is used to be one of our go to places to eat. read more

My experience was so bad that I didn't even take my usual pictures to show the dishes. This review will be slightly different than my usual as I want to focus more on the customer service aspect rather than the food. To start with, they have a dedicated Jain Menu so we picked this place for some of the family members who can't eat onion and garlic. However, when we drove an hour plus to get here, they stated they're so "busy" that they may not be able to take any "Jain" orders. Well "busy" to them means less than 30% of the seating because the place was more than half empty. They stated after our questioning that they will try to get Jain orders for us so we all set down (group of 10+). Again, the place was mostly empty and had many tables that were already setup with napkins, forks, spoons, and glass cups. But when we set down, we had none of it. The waiter came and asked us if we were okay with plastic cups since glass ones will take more time as they don't have many right now. Again, they had more than enough on all other empty tables. Afterwards placing our order, we received may be 6 spoons and 6 forks and 2 napkins for 10+ of us. It almost seemed they didn't want us to be there. At least that's the vibe I got from all these things that kept happening. Another issues was that right where my wife was sitting, the ac kept dripping water from the ceiling. And while we were eating they were right next to us trying to get something out of some wooden box or working on some set of furniture. This could have waited until after we were done with our meals. Or at least they could have been courteous enough and just let us know that they had to work on something and will be making noises. To the end, lastly on the food, it was nothing too special to talk about. We did get a bowl of Rasam with a long piece of hair that my daughter caught and was disgusted with. The hair alone makes this a one star review. We came to this location for the first time since we had great experiences at the NJ location, but my experience was bad enough that I wouldn't even come back here. read more

This is the kind of place where I was the only person around who wasn't a South Indian. The setting is amply decorated, but it isn't the nicest building. There is limited parking in front and more if you navigate around to the back. While the menu was broad, I thought a basic sampler platter of South Indian breakfast specials would fit the bill for me, and it did. While the vada and dosa are the items you'd come for, I found these a bit bland and not ideally fresh. The kichadi and pongal were actually much better. This isn't an easy cuisine to find generally, but in this suburban Virginia region there is a ton of it and I've had better experiences. read more

Dinner with a group of 12 friends the party space was well setup for us and the service was also quick and efficient. I got the mini tiffin and enjoyed the iddly, pongal and upma with sambar and coconut chutney. It was little bland for me so asked for a spicy chutney and they gave me tomato chutney which was spicy and yummy. The plain dosa was too oily but still good. Our group ordered so many dishes most were good, the appetizers took too long - the cauliflower 65 was very oily, thick batter and too mych food coloring; the lotus flower vada was interesting and plain uttapam was very good spongy like in a set dosa. My experience with A2B has been great except for this place. First the good part, we were greeted and seated promptly, and order was taken without delays. However the food tasted stale, specially the oil tasted as if it has been used multiple times for cooking and frying. We ordered Mysore masala dosa, sambhar vada, schezwan noodles, chili paneer, idle sambhar. Dosa were cold as if they were pre made and waiting for someone to order. I understand that vada are cooked in batches and they can be cold, but serving cold dosa has no excuse. They forgot to serve schezwan noodle that my kid was waiting for and it came 20mins later after multiple reminders. Chilli paneer was full of black pepper something you usually don't use as primary ingredient in chilli paneer. Their bathroom was stinking and does not have air conditioning that made the situation worse and it was hard to stand there. Unfortunately I can't give more than 1 star because the stale oil messed up our dinner and we had to stop by at Dominos across the street for our kids. Overall I do not recommend this place, this not how a business should be running. read more

Ambiance: Very South Indian traditional interiors, and the service is always great here. I have visited this place atleast 6-7times. Food: we ordered pongal vadai, ghee pongal, mini tiffin, chole bature and sweet corn soup. Sweet corn soup was average. Ghee pongal was just amazing!! It's a must try, just melts in the mouth. Mini tiffin was also very delicious. Chole bature here is my all time favorite. Flavors are amazing and the taste is consistent every time. My only concern is the chutney quantities are barely anything and they charge you for extra chutney and chole. Despite this we go there as the food tastes great. The menu at A2B has always drawn us -- even prompting us to drive 2 hours. It's rooted in South Indian favourites but as it happens with most restaurants, the menu now covers the whole gamut of indian food. I hate to say this but given the large menu, it's quite evident that they are freezing and storing the food longer eventually serving stale food. In particular, the portion of mini tiffins and sweet corn soup we ordered didn't feel fresh. Maybe this was because we ordered this late on a Tuesday night. We brought our entire family here to celebrate Father's Day. When you walk in the ambiance isn't bad and it's a nice open space. The food however is mediocre complimented with awkward service. For instance, the traditional South Indian food like Dosa and uthapam lacked flavor. The potato filling (masala) that goes in the dosa was also very bland. My father ordered a rava dosa wasn't crispy at all. On a positive note, the chutneys were very tasty and the North Indian (Punjabi) food was very good as well. From a service aspect, it was strange because when we asked to get an extra side of something and asking if we can pay out of pocket for it, the restaurant said "no we cannot do that." I ran out of the small cup of chole that came with my disproportional amount of chole / bhatura. I asked if I can pay for one more side of bhatura and I was told that it's not possible for them to do that. I don't understand why.... We happen to be in Herndon and decided to stop by to check out this restaurant. We have been here many times, but when it was a different restaurant (name) each time. The staff was extremely friendly and very professional. They all wore matching vests and were very efficient and quick with taking orders, handing them out, etc. The decorations were so elaborate as well. Only 2 bad things I noticed 1) there was a huge hole in the asphalt (on the handicap spot) and the window sills were slightly dusty. I already had it in my mind to order the South Indian Thali even though I didn't know what half the items were (I wasn't crazy about most of them) but I still ate it anyway. I definitely would return to try out other South Indian dishes; I do wish I looked at all the other items because there was such a variety of South Indian dishes! read more

The food is amazing, its my favorite Indian place in the area. The Chole Bhature is phenomenal, so is the Masala Dosa. The Idly Sambar is also good and so is the Kai Korma. The Pakora is ok, and the chai is mediocre. The service staff has high turn over, every few months, and is the biggest con of this place. Don't expect it to get better, its been like this for ever. My family and I visited A2B in Herndon for a quick, vegetarian lunch. We chose A2B due to its specialization in dosas, the good experience we received at another location in New Jersey, and on the strength of a recommendation from a friend. A2B's dining room can fit parties of all sizes, and our party of 7 was seated immediately during peak Saturday lunch hours. Orders were taken rather quickly and we received most of our food in a timely manner. My wife's family is from South India, so our collective standards are high for dosas, idlis, etc. While nothing was frankly bad, the food overall failed to impress. The dosas lacked the strong tang I associate with quality fermented batter, though the crepes themselves possessed a good balance between crisp exteriors and softer innards. The sambar tasted fresh but a little mild in spicing; ditto for the chutneys. One highlight of our collective order were the freshly fried, crunchy, and well seasoned masala vada. We did have a few hiccups with the food delivery, namely that one item was forgotten and that one dish arrived cold. Both gripes were remedied expediently and the service we received otherwise was efficient and pleasant. Do note that dosas are very pricey, as the basic varieties cost about $15 and can exceed $20 for the more elaborate preparations such as paper dosa. Given that the dosas themselves ran on the smaller side and that the dosas are composed of the cheapest ingredients on the planet (ie rice and lentils), we found the value here quite poor. All told, if you need a quick fix for competent but unremarkable dosas and other South Indian vegetarian fare, A2B will do. Just be prepared to shell out a few extra bucks in the process. My wife and I don't anticipate returning any time soon given other nearby options to try at more reasonable price points. read more

I feel like you can't go wrong with whatever foods you order. I really enjoyed the paneer tikka and mysore masala dosa, but like I said everything was delicious. While you're on a road trip and foodie, you're more concerned about the good food and imagine what will happen you found the right place that you desire. Guess what, I found the place I wanted, A2B at Herndon. I have already visited the place in New York before so I'm sure I won't get disappoint this time as well with the taste, and to my surprise it is much more delicious than the branch I visited before. The ambience, the service, the hygiene and of course, food - everything was excellent. We started with sambhar vada and cocktail idli. I can't forget the taste, so delicious. Then for the main course I ordered my favorite Bisi-Bele-Bhuth and oh my god it was so yummy and satisfying. The other items we ordered were bonda, Mysore masala dosa, paper dosa, idiyappam. All were too good. A strong recommendation for those who love South Indian food. If you're in Virginia, do visit the place. And in the end we ordered madras filter coffee and I end up having two. I have travelled a lot and this is my safe bet restaurant in Tamil Nadu, India. So I decided to pay this restaurant a visit since I'm on a travel along the east coast! ACTUAL REVIEW: The name board everything seems the same, and the atmosphere was too good. Well maintained and classy. It was crowded and it's obvious for a Saturday night. Ordered a Mini tiffin which included a huge Dosa, Vadai, few mini Idlis, Pongal and Rava Kichdi alongside Sambar and Chutney. To be honest, nothing really tasted like the A2B I have visited in India. The sambar was completely upside down and tasted sweet. Dosa was super duper dry but was crispy. Vadai was the outstanding good thing I would say. Pongal was equally good and I just had a spoon of Rava kichdi and I wasn't impressed at all. Most importantly then realized I don't see any savories or sweets like they sell in New Jersey A2B and probably I think they are just maintaining the franchise name but the owner or proprietor is totally a new or a different person. The food was very average over all. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are super craving for mediocre South Indian food. On top of that we ordered Lemon and Tamarind rice for our journey next day (Road trip to NY). Guess what both the mixed rices were too good! Im not sure if that's because of travel or something, they tasted like how exactly they should taste! With sambar on the sides, this was totally different and much better to the dinner we had. BOTTOM LINE: One time visit. Great atmosphere and ambience. Ordinary food, nothing great. Honestly doesn't do justice to the A2B back in CHENNAI, India. Came in for our anniversary on a Friday night around 7pm and it was pleasantly packed. We were seated immediately and set to scanning the MASSIVE menu. There are dishes from every corner of India and quite a few I was completely unfamiliar with. We ordered two staple items at most Indian restaurants: chana masala and Paneer Muglai, plus something we'd never had: Chili Parota, plus garlic naan and Kasmiri Naan and mango lassis. The Parota knocked my socks off. Even my son helped me eat it! The masala was delicate, yet spicy and the paneer was delightful. The only thing we didn't finish off was some bread which I am taking home. The Kasmiri naan will be a good start to my day tomorrow. I highly recommend the restauraunt to anyone nearby Dulles airport. This is one of the BEST South Indian restaurants in the DMV! The restaurant can be very busy over the weekend, but on weekdays it is very calm and staff are quick to attend to your order. This is a great spot to get food with friends, family, and other loved ones, they can easily accommodate large party of people. Plenty of parking available in the adjacent parking lot. I ordered onion rava dosa. The dosa was greasy and the serving size was extremely small, as noted and complained by majority of customers. The most important factor to consider it that the menu is extremely overpriced. "A complete rip off". When you come out of the restaurant you will feel as if, you have been robbed in broad daylight. Our friends who are local to Maryland always used to go here for amazing south Indian vegetarian food in the area. And they took us here when we visited them. But the day we went was quite disappointing for us. Maybe it was a bad day for them or the head chef was on vacation. But the food we got served was definitely sub par. I come from India and know how yummy A2B food is back home, I expected at least something similar here. We ordered: Sambar Vadai, Gobi Manchurian, South Indian Thali, Chole Bhature, Navarathna Korma, Onion Kulcha, Paneer Tikka, Chilli Parotta, Lacha Parotta, Kadai Panner. Of these the only worthy dishes were Chole Bhature, Paneer Tikka, and Sambar Vadai, both were yummy. Gobi Manchurian was average. Both Kadai Panner and Navarathna Korma were very disappointing. The Kadai Panner wasn't cooked enough and all the masala and veggies were raw, and both didn't taste anywhere near what they were supposed to taste like. I visited this south Indian restaurant today, today is Vijaya Dasami an auspicious day. I am very very disappointed with the food. they serve food in plastic plates and donot know what kind of plastic it is. I tried Tamarind rice and it is not even close to the flavor and very poorly prepared no salt no chilli spice. I tried poori with curries again no spice no salt. My daughter tried onion kulcha with paneer butter masala she finished it taking a lot of time, she definitely didn't eat it with excitement.
