Ambiance: Very South Indian traditional interiors, and the service is always great here. I have visited this place atleast 6-7times. Food: we ordered pongal vadai, ghee pongal, mini tiffin, chole bature and sweet corn soup. Sweet corn soup was average. Ghee pongal was just amazing!! It's a must try, just melts in the mouth. Mini tiffin was also very delicious. Chole bature here is my all time favorite. Flavors are amazing and the taste is consistent every time. My only concern is the chutney quantities are barely anything and they charge you for extra chutney and chole. Despite this we go there as the food tastes great. I really hope they up their chutney quantities soon. Parking: There are a few parking spots around the restaurant. The church parking can also be used.

The menu at A2B has always drawn us -- even prompting us to drive 2 hours. It's rooted in South Indian favourites but as it happens with most restaurants, the menu now covers the whole gamut of indian food. I hate to say this but given the large menu, it's quite evident that they are freezing and storing the food longer eventually serving stale food. In particular, the portion of mini tiffins and sweet corn soup we ordered didn't feel fresh. Maybe this was because we ordered this late on a Tuesday night. We hope this was a one off thing because we've had absolutely delightful food at A2B.

We brought our entire family here to celebrate Father's Day. When you walk in the ambiance isn't bad and it's a nice open space. The food however is mediocre complimented with awkward service. For instance, the traditional South Indian food like Dosa and uthapam lacked flavor. The potato filling (masala) that goes in the dosa was also very bland. My father ordered a rava dosa wasn't crispy at all. On a positive note, the chutneys were very tasty and the North Indian (Punjabi) food was very good as well. From a service aspect, it was strange because when we asked to get an extra side of something and asking if we can pay out of pocket for it, the restaurant said "no we cannot do that." I ran out of the small cup of chole that came with my disproportional amount of chole / bhatura. I asked if I can pay for one more side of bhatura and I was told that it's not possible for them to do that. I don't understand why.... Overall, it's an average place with higher prices than other competitors in the area.

A nice hole in the handicap spot...

We happen to be in Herndon and decided to stop by to check out this restaurant. We have been here many times, but when it was a different restaurant (name) each time. The staff was extremely friendly and very professional. They all wore matching vests and were very efficient and quick with taking orders, handing them out, etc. The decorations were so elaborate as well. Only 2 bad things I noticed 1) there was a huge hole in the asphalt (on the handicap spot) and the window sills were slightly dusty. I already had it in my mind to order the South Indian Thali even though I didn't know what half the items were (I wasn't crazy about most of them) but I still ate it anyway. I definitely would return to try out other South Indian dishes; I do wish I looked at all the other items because there was such a variety of South Indian dishes!

Food was simply superb.Dosa was great .Loved their Cone dosa. Paper Dosa , Mysore masala dosa . Their Vegetarian thalis were yummy .Best was their Madras Coffee. Coming back again.

Service is prompt and ambiance is buzzing with a lively crowd including lots of kids. Very typical Indian restaurant Food itself was ok, nothing to write home about. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. We'll try other South Indian options in the area

A2B was a great experience! The restaurant looks nice and is clean. The service staff was nice and friendly, and we were well taken care of. The food was delicious. I feel like you can't go wrong with whatever foods you order. I really enjoyed the paneer tikka and mysore masala dosa, but like I said everything was delicious. I advise ordering appetizers first, and waiting to order your main course items after you've received your appetizers. Otherwise, everything might come out all at once and get cold.

(People can skip this HISTORY part and go directly to the main review part down below if you are not interested to know why I went there and why am I super qualified to write this review) HISTORY: It would be a crime if I haven't visited this place coming all the way from Atlanta and even more since I'm from Madras! Yes the home of Adyar Ananda Bhavan. The closing time was I think 9:30 (Kitchen closing) and these people were courteous enough to accommodate us even though we made it at 9:40PM. Most Indian restaurants are strict with Kitchen timings and they would turn us away even if we reach by 9:29PM. Happened with me at Delhi Dhaba, WashingtonDC even though I reached several minutes before the Kitchen closing time! Anyways coming on to this restaurant in Virginia. A2B is a well reputed and your "GO-TO" restaurant if you are traveling from CHENNAI towards down south Tamil Nadu. They are safe, hygienic and taste amazing! I have travelled a lot and this is my safe bet restaurant in Tamil Nadu, India. So I decided to pay this restaurant a visit since I'm on a travel along the east coast! ACTUAL REVIEW: The name board everything seems the same, and the atmosphere was too good. Well maintained and classy. It was crowded and it's obvious for a Saturday night. Ordered a Mini tiffin which included a huge Dosa, Vadai, few mini Idlis, Pongal and Rava Kichdi alongside Sambar and Chutney. To be honest, nothing really tasted like the A2B I have visited in India. The sambar was completely upside down and tasted sweet. Dosa was super duper dry but was crispy. Vadai was the outstanding good thing I would say. Pongal was equally good and I just had a spoon of Rava kichdi and I wasn't impressed at all. Most importantly then realized I don't see any savories or sweets like they sell in New Jersey A2B and probably I think they are just maintaining the franchise name but the owner or proprietor is totally a new or a different person. The food was very average over all. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are super craving for mediocre South Indian food. On top of that we ordered Lemon and Tamarind rice for our journey next day (Road trip to NY). Guess what both the mixed rices were too good! Im not sure if that's because of travel or something, they tasted like how exactly they should taste! With sambar on the sides, this was totally different and much better to the dinner we had. BOTTOM LINE: One time visit. Great atmosphere and ambience. Ordinary food, nothing great. Honestly doesn't do justice to the A2B back in CHENNAI, India. Possible it's not the original A2B and taken over by someone else. MUST TRY: Medhu Vadai, Pongal, Tamarind rice (Shhh! Strictly for road trips only)

The quality of food has surprisingly been consistent every visit. The cleanliness under the table and the unsafe blind strings hanging around takes out a star for otherwise a first class place for authentic south Indian vegetarian food. Service has been effective irrespective of the different servers we meet almost every visit.

(Really, when I checked in on Swarm, it had been 13 years since my last visit. Now we're going every month or so.) While I noticed some updating--there's more wood paneling, and the menu is sleeker, for lack of a better word--the restaurant still has a warm, friendly vibe with sunflower imagery throughout. The menu is a twist on Asian food, with plenty of analogues, chunks of soy and/or wheat protein, and some vegetables. It's not all vegan--a few dishes have dairy and/or honey, and I suspect one of the noodle dishes uses egg noodles--but those items are clearly marked. We were last there on Thanksgiving and tried a few new things. The veggie kabob reminded me a bit of the kabob at the late, lamented Harmony Cafe in Georgetown. Sure, I'll get that again. I'm not so sure about the mushroom dish. I do love mushrooms, but perhaps this isn't the way to go about it. On prior visits, we've gone with old familiars. The fried "chicken" appetizer (chunks of soy protein and mushrooms fried and served with a spicy ketchup) are a classic. I am still trying to find my go-to entree. Maybe the Crispy Happiness (chunks of soy protein and shredded vegetables cooked mild)? It's a bit far from DC, but it is worth the trip.

The seating inside is pretty spacious, for a Wednesday night it wasn't too crowded so we were able to get a table relatively easily. This time I went with my vegetarian friend and I think it might have become her new favorite spot. First thing she said when I came in was "there's so many options" when usually it's what can I eat? With a full vegetarian menu, it's a great spot for those who like an Asian cuisine but suffer from the oh it's not vegetarian. Luckily the whole menu is vegetarian. The waiter/server also said they are doing great and planning on opening a second location in Chantilly soon! We ordered the vegan clam dip, shaky beef, and the fish (vegan) soup. Delicious food all around, I always prefer the clam dip and shaky beef. Really good flavors and a great combination. We definitely ordered too much food, so I would say if it's just two, two dishes is enough. Shaky beef was a little different this time around but still good flavor and you can taste that it's vegetarian or some other meat, but it's pretty darn close to beef. The flavors in the sauce and other bell peppers and onions elevate the flavor profile. The fish soup was a new dish, and definitely had a fish flavor but was a little overpowered by the tomatoe. I probably wouldn't go with that one again, but the others were still amazing.
