It seems like Best Chimney Services may have just zoomed in on small cracks to make it seem like a worse problem. The only useful thing they did was give us a recommendation for where to get help with our gas fireplace. Wouldn't come back here for any chimney service.

I have been very fortunate to have worked with Rich since 2003 and so happy to hear his voice every time I call with a service question or to schedule a service call. More recently I have had the extreme pleasure of having Mason be the lead on installing a stainless steel chimney liner for me and conduct a fire test for work recently completed. Even though there was a challenge with the size of the liner, due to my chimney being narrower in the middle, Mason was able to easily troubleshoot, find the correct size and have the installation completed shortly after the initial visit. Mason returned today to conduct a fire test to ensure everything was in working order and supplied the necessary paperwork for my property management company at our condo association to prove that my fireplace is in working order and safe to use. Mason's professionalism, leadership, critical thinking skills, positive/can-do attitude and easygoing manner were most impressive. I want to also commend the trainees that I met on both visits, Ron, Julio and Leo. All were models of customer service and professionalism and very happy to be with Best Chimney. It was obvious they were very pleased to be training under Mason and had a high level of respect for him. Rogers Insulation was the company selected by Mass Save following a home energy report. Our…read moreexperience was mixed, with the office and some of the workers really seeming top notch. The negative we had was the project leader for the day of work seemed to have cut corners in several places. It started with not all of the work being done that was on the invoice. The office believed me and sent out a worker to check and they validated the work was not done that was in the invoice. When Mass Save came to inspect the work, they also found the light covers were not installed correctly. All and all, it required 4 visits to complete the work for a variety of reasons.

When the work was completed, our Building Inspector flagged the work for an insufficient amount of blown-in insulation. Months passed. When Rogers came back for the re-do, they didn't bring enough tubing to reach the attic opening, so they had to go back to Framingham to get more. This despite the fact that the company had already done work here previously, and should have known how much tubing was needed. In the end, the job was done correctly, per the Building Inspector, but the process required more of my time and attention than it should have, with appointments and phone calls. Also without the Building Inspection, we would not have know that insufficient insulation had been installed.

The crew who worked on our house was wonderful - they consulted with us about everything they were doing to keep us informed and up to speed on the process and the updates that needed to be made to the plan (it's a 130 year old home, that had some unexpected nooks and crannies - but they handled all the changes and updates to the plan with MassSave for us). The crew was also very careful and meticulous about minimizing mess in the house as much as they could and took care to clean up each day. Would highly recommend.

No problem, but then when McEachern came out, the problems began. They didn't seem to know what they were going to insulate in my house, however we worked through it. Once they arrived for the job, the foreman "hadn't even spoken" once to the owners about the job and the foreman seemed confused about what work to perform. I wrote a quick email message to Christine at McEachern and she became argumentative (this wasn't the first time). Basically, they did a HORRIBLE job smearing silicone over painted cedar shingles, left a huge mess for me to clean off and then took off. Before they even came, they wanted me to put a box vent on a small portion of my roof (the main roof has a ridge vent). So, I was forced to hire a roofer to put a ridge vent in, which cost me $1,000. Run. Run away from McEachern, even though they've been doing this for years.

Towards the end of last year, I had several companies come out and quote for a full roof…read morereplacement. Golden Group gave me the best feeling about the job from the initial discussion. Where other contractors canceled appointments, arrived late, or were just no-shows - Mikel (out of their Hudson office) arrived on time and did a thorough assessment of the roof including taking drone footage. He sat with me and walked me through the whole process clearly, explaining all my choices in materials and didn't push any product or add-on. I did receive marginally cheaper quotes, but they did not leave me feeling like my home was in good hands in the same way that Mikel did, and I felt the extra money was likely to be worth it. Once I decided to go ahead with them, again, everything was done very professionally. I was kept informed of times and everybody showed up exactly when they said they would. I made a small change to the scope of the work in replacing additional plywood sections of the roof, and these were easily accommodated on short notice. On the day of the work, the crew showed up on time and Jurgan (the site foreman) kept everything moving with minimal disruption to us. I was working from home, and my wife and kids were in and out of the house for school and errands. Despite replacing the entire roof of the main building and two additions over approximately 9 hours, there was minimal disruption to our days. The house was protected during the work, and even with snow still on the ground, their cleanup crew constantly walked the property picking up and disposing of any debris, nails, old material etc. Ultimately the roof was replaced successfully and looks good. Every step of the job was explained to me, every question answered, and every decision explained. The team was professional, punctual and courteous throughout. A couple of weeks in and we've had snow, rain and strong winds. Everything is still perfect. I can highly recommend Mikel and Jurgan from Golden Group, Hudson.
