GO ELSEWHERE! Simply put you will get the B Team (at best) and all the forms of sloppiness that goes with it. Some here have gone into detail as to how you can screw up a basic insulation job, so I won't repeat it. The number of screw ups and amateur work quality was more than I've ever seen in 30 years of home ownership and contractors work. The highlight: they core drilled through structural 2x4s inside the wall, under window framing. Who the F does that?! Everything from communications, to quality of work, to damages, to explanations, to billing / paperwork, slop/mess/clean up, it goes on. Ghosting communications to the office and field lead. Yes, they came back to fill in the various areas where they put NO insulation at all in several wall cavities...but, really, how do you just miss that unless you've been on the job for about a week. The only reason I got them to do that was I got a temperature gun that showed several places where it was a cold wall... They came with a IR image gun and verified various empty areas. What kind of training and qualification do they go through? and oh yea, one of the crew wanted to sit in my hallway for long periods of time, because his feet were very cold and he had nothing to do. When he was 'working' he was on his phone talking and texting non stop. I am not making this up. On each of two crews, there was one person of the three that was competent and able to communicate reasonably well, and two who were not. They meant well, but just not up to the task. Find a real insulation company with a real crew of adults. read more

They clearly do not care about their customers and once they have your money, you're out of luck. They will find any way to get out correcting poor quality work. Horrible customer service, they did a check of my home and said they would replace two showerheads, so far nothing after several emails. Contacted Mass Save and they are equally as useless. The programs are just a boondoggle to charge you more for your electric bill, ripoff. read more

Horrible experience. Avoid at all costs. They never showed up for home energy assessment. When I called to check in they said 2 times they would be out by noon but never showed. When I talked with a supervisor she gave mixed messages about why the couldn't come. You have choices through mass save as to how comes to your home. I would advise anyone to AVOID Homeworks Energy at all costs. They do inferior work, have unqualified technicians and do an awful job communicating to get problems resolved. They installed a heat pump, hot water heater, and insulated our home. Here is a list of the things done wrong. Day 1 installed condensation tube wrong and wrong pump. They said it would be fine so we ran the system.......flooded basement Forgot to install a 600$ add on part and only came back when I called them out on it. Installed the wrong thermostat causing the unit to run 24/7 leading to almost 1200$ in electric bills over two months. They did compensate me for some of this after I complained for 3 months and presented them with my electric bills. Patched 30 holes in my walls incorrectly and left a styrofoam plug sticking out of every one. They had to come back and redo the whole project filling my house with dust and mess a second time. When the technician didn't get the number he wanted on the insulation blower test started closing interior doors to falsify the number so he could move on to the next job. Homeworks employees broke a part of the heat pump TWICE leaving us with no AC in the middle of summer for 4 weeks and another flooded basement. No compensation and no apology. I pay them monthly for a service contract. Failed to repair a broken pump.......flooded basement again which is now moldy. The employees are nice but if you actually want anything done correctly I would look elsewhere. read more

Such a terrible set of experiences with HWE. I went through MassSave to get their services: insulation and other heat-saving measures, including door jambs, blow-in insulation, and expanding foam in foundational joists. In total they required THREE separate trips, which I'll expand on: 1) Initial visit -- 2‑br, 1‑bath job. I was onsite for the first half of the full day's work, and they were great in the kitchen and living room: they put up plastic sheeting and handled dust/debris carefully. I left them to finish, assuming all was fine. Unfortunately, both bedrooms and the garage were NOT plastic-wrapped as they had been where I was present; they were an absolute mess when I returned (see images). I had moved everything to the center of each room to make it easier to cordon off, but everything -- most frustratingly my bedding -- was covered with dust, drywall particles, and insulation. I don't understand why the don't use a shop-vac while drilling to cut back on the mess. I would have assumed HEPA everything but instead it's just drill and blow insulation. Additionally they used the green-lid 24-hour joint compound on the drilled holes; that compound would be fine alone, but they applied two coats only a few hours apart, which creates too much moisture and causes cracking, something anyone who has used joint compound before would know. That requires much more post-processing sanding and reapplication to get a smooth wall (also shown in another image). Also, many of their styrofoam 3″ inserts used to plug holes protruded well beyond flush with the wall and required complete removal and reapplication. If the inserts were close to flush, a few coats of joint compound would have fixed the elevation, but these protrusions were extensive and made repairs take about three times longer than necessary. I spent many weekday evenings and weekends cleaning and repairing and to this day find pockets of my quarters in a layer of drywall & insulation. -Adobe Energy, an independent verification company, came onsite about two months later. The rep was great, found several cold spots in the walls (well documented), and advised another visit to remediate them, plus noted poor door-jamb installation and a missed foundational joist insulation spot. 2) Scheduling was reasonably responsive. The second HWE crew remediated some of the shoddy work from the first trip (door jambs and joist foam patches). For some reason they didn't fully reference the Adobe Energy photos and drilled many more holes in the patched walls than were necessary. They attempted to use their blow-in insulation machine but said it was non-functional and that they would need to return a THIRD time. I was understandably upset but I tried not to take it out on the reps. They promised an escalated call from a manager that day to reschedule; I did not receive it. I waited until mid-afternoon the next day, then called. The scheduler was empathetic; she initially said the next available slot was three weeks out, which I told her was unacceptable given the circumstances and state of holes in my wall. She said she'd follow up after working on scheduling and, after about an hour, called back to say she could send reps the next day. 3) The third visit finished the blow-in insulation and patchwork. Unfortunately they were NOT given the pictures from Adobe's assessment, I made it clear we wouldn't progress until we could reference the pictures. The rep made some emails/calls and got the pictures, we reviewed and executed. I lost another weekend to joint compound, sanding, priming, and painting. HomeWorks Energy demonstrated widespread incompetence: broken equipment, poor onsite training, and low-quality materials (they even had a duct‑taped blade they were using - see image). Whatever they're billing MassSave clearly isn't going back into operations or equipment. I lost multiple weekends cleaning up their mess, and it's a shame to see a good MA program affected like this. I would warn people to stay away from HomeWorks Energy at all costs and look to other contractors. read more

I would not recommend this company. I had an HVAC system installed in December. The job estimate included a smart thermostat, which I didn't want, but Homeworks told me it was necessary; this turned out to be untrue. Their subcontractor botched the job and left us with no heat in 20 degree weather. I had to hire my own electrician to fix the mess, and am now requesting reimbursement. Homeworks isn't returning my emails. Service people and customer service people are lovely, but obviously the higher-ups are deeply out of touch. I will be pursuing legal action. read more

CAUTION: Unacceptable handling of a senior customer's personal information & zero consideration for resulting confusion. We had a deeply troubling experience with HomeWorks Energy involving my 86-year-old mother-in-law. Despite her stating clearly that she wished to pay in cash and did not want financing, the representative requested her Social Security number and used it to submit a credit card application -- without her full understanding or informed consent. She was rushed through a digital signature process and only received the documents documents after stating she would not schedule the project. When she discovered the credit card, she contacted the manager who did not respond. When the sales representative contacted her, she asked to cancel the contract and he told her "there will be severe consequences with the Mass Saves Program and the 3-day cancellation window had passed." While closing the credit card account, we discovered a pending charge for $9,000 - the estimated Mass Saves Rebate on the HomeWorks Proposal. Only after we submitted a formal written complaint was the contract canceled and her deposit refunded. Throughout the process, the company failed to take responsibility, denied clear and documented facts, and offered no apology -- despite the stress, time, and confusion caused to a vulnerable senior. THEY DO NOT CARE... The last email from their Legal Counsel ended with... "The matter will be closed without any harm to either party if you cease contacting HomeWorks." If you are considering using HomeWorks Energy -- especially for an older family member -- I strongly recommend caution. Be extremely careful with what information you provide, and make sure all communication and signatures are fully understood and documented. read more

Don't waste your time or money with these clowns. I was assigned to them by Mass Save to insulate the area between my bedroom and my garage. The project was completed late summer/early fall last year (2024). Fortunately for me, there was an early cold snap and I could immediately tell something was wrong because my bedroom felt cold despite turning on the heating system. It had never felt that cold in 30 years of ownership. They had insulated but failed to seal it properly. The work was careless and shoddy. This past winter I inspected a crawl space under my den because I'd heard critters. The key heating duct had zero insulation and mold had formed on the old insulation under the floor boards. 'Nick' from Home Works came to inspect it and gave verbal assessment. Their office called to set up another inspection. I asked why the second inspection and who would be coming, but the representative wouldn't answer either question. Nick returned but didn't add new information or value. I never got a written proposal and had to call multiple times to get a verbal proposal. I tried to contact them a couple of more times but eventually gave up. Looking back, they did a terrible job, and then they jerked me around on a potential second job before ghosting me. read more

We had hired this company to do a masssave audit and address insulation issues in a few parts of our home. The audit was excellent, and he identified four areas in my home and recommended services that MassSave would mostly cover. However, the team delivering the service was unprofessional, arriving an hour late and not having the scope of the project accurate. They cut holes in the wrong ceiling (even after I showed them the proper place that the auditor had identified), left a large mess, broke a storm window and did a very poor job cleaning up dust. I missed a doctors appointment and had to get a lot of our clothes to the dry cleaners, all at my own expense. Would not recommend this team for executing insulation work. read more

If you are unfortunate enough to be in contact with Ken, don't hold your breath waiting for a call. They came, gave me an insulation quote and i have been trying to schedule the work for a month. Last i heard from Ken, he was going to contact his people to answer a question and then get back to me.....still waiting over a week later. Needless to say I found another company who didn't try and make me do something to prep for them to do their job and yup, still no phone call back. It's great they are just so busy that they don't need your money nor care about customer service. Do yourself a favor and go with a smaller company who relies on taking care of their customers. Homeworks set about updating 2 bathroom vent ducts and outlets. On the first visit, they installed 4 inch duct on a fan requiring 6 inch duct by just using lots of tape. On the fan requiring 4 inch duct, they failed to connect the duct to the fan. On the second visit, they applied temporary fixes by reconnecting to old 6 inch duct and reconnecting the 4 inch duct. On the third visit (sending their "best team"), the got the 6 inch connected correctly but still failed to connect the 4 inch (I could see daylight between the duct and the fan outlet) and they failed to replace the insulation around the fans. When I approached for a refund, after a few weeks they only agreed to refund 40% of the project cost. Throughout, communication was slow. read more

Through Mass Save I contracted with HomeWorks Energy to have insulation blown into my attic in November. They installed a large mushroom vent on my roof and that was it...until March when I started to see dark stains on my ceiling. Being that is a 7 year old roof I figured did not leak before them being in my attic and on my roof I naturally concluded they created the problem...I have been in an endless vertex of "who shot john"....they have sent 3 "inspectors" to look at the work, two of which were the same person and then a third who described himself as being the one they send when they can't come to conclusion...what a joke. I have been given the run around now for 2 months! I had the original roofer come to inspect and he concluded that they had no idea what they were doing ! I had to pay him $980 to fix their mess and I still have to have my ceilings redone...I have had nothing but the run around...even with my roofer sending them explicit videos of his findings and speaking with them. My advice to you....stay away...far away...oh and by the way...check out the BBB on them and YELP reviews before you consider this! I currently have a complaint with the BBB and next will be the AG's office,,then off to Channel 12..that should be fun...and then.....lawsuit....anyone want to join? read more

I had my whole house reinsulated by HomeWorks Energy and despite a rocky start due to lack of coordination and communication between HomeWorks and MassSave, the HomeWorks crew assigned to this unusually complicated and complex project was excellent. The crew leader was an attentive and excellent communicator, explaining what was being done each day and reviewing what had been done at the end of the day. His crew was very pleasant, efficient and accommodating. The crew was Truck #40. read more

I am not a keyboard warrior, just giving an honest assessment. They completed a home energy assessment and made recommendations. The assessment miscalculated the amount of insulation. major changes were made on the day scheduled for the installation. new to us house and the insulation on the cieling of the unfinished basement had the vapor barrier facing the wrong way. instead of flipping it over, they tore all of the paper off which left insulation hanging down, looking terrible. Their fix was to put up plastic sheeting, which is a vapor barrier on steroids. after numerous phone calls they finally agreed to just replace and install new insulation....which failed inspection. fixed that and now we have massive ice dams on 1 section of the house, which is causing water from the melting snow to leak into windows. It is as if they completely disregarded that section. All of the workers appeared to be very young and inexperienced. I willing to not be contacting them, nor should you. read more

Something I want to acknowledge, with all the negativity that gets put out there, is when a company takes accountability when something goes wrong. I had the energy assessment done and took the recommendation to add insulation in the attic. A week after the crew completed the work, I noticed a crack in the dining room ceiling and reported it. I was worried they might try to deny their workers caused it, but they did send someone out, a fellow named Dean, to patch the crack. There was a tall cabinet full of glassware underneath, I figured I was going to have to empty it and move the cabinet, but he said he could cover it and work around it, and he did. He blended beautifully with the textured ceiling and made it look seamless. He came back on another day to paint it, and now you can't tell there had ever been a crack. He was very meticulous and obviously cared about doing the job right. read more

They did my home assessment and then the insulation work. The subsequent inspection of the work determined that some of the attic work was done incorrectly. HomeWorks Energy has not responded to the request to fix the work and, now that we have arctic temperatures, my HVAC system is having trouble keeping the heat up. Also, they had me use their electric contractor to have some work done and told me the cost would be reimbursed. It wasn't. They are very quick to market to you and to sign you up for services but they are terrible if you need any follow up. They just ignore you. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. Had a furnace installed in September. Process was easy because we paid cash. It took until February to get the heat working. Numerous phone calls, over the months, never once a call back from them. The only way I got service was to call the emergency number on a Sunday morning during a cold snap. It then took three visits over several days for the to realize the thermostat was bad. Installation came with a year of "free service. " I was told to call when we received the filter replacement message and service would come out to install and do the spring service. I just placed that call and it was like they had no idea what I was talking about. These people are great at taking your money, but that's about it. Avoid them at all costs. read more

ZERO stars for Homeworks. If this was a publicly-traded company, I would short the stock. My Homeworks saga has been going on for more than a year. They were hired to upgrade an electrical panel and install and heat pump hot water heater. From the beginning, there were some red flags. The wrong team (insulation) showed up for an energy audit for HVAC services. I was sent a quote intended for another customer - and it took over a week of back-and-forth with three people to get the right quote. Still, I signed up because I've had some sub-optimal experiences with small contractors, and the larger Homeworks organization appealed to me. I was also buying the convenience of one-stop shopping for MassSave and Heat Loan processing. Big mistake. One year update: 1) Heat pump hot water heater does not work. 2) I have been bounced-around to numerous people. In total, at least 20 people have been involved in the installation of the hot water heater. 3) I ended up directly managing the subs on the project (plumbing and electrical). This was done out of necessity, not preference. 4) A final electrical inspection was done, and then re-scheduled twice because the electrician didn't have a process for accurately recording project inspection status. 5) I am convinced that decarbonization/electrification efforts in progressive states like Massachusetts will fail if my experience is at all indicative of what it's like trying to replace gas-fired equipment. I should note that the quality of the work performed, once it was performed, was quite good. The issues with Homeworks are less about the work done in the home and more about the people working in the office. This company is in desperate need of restructuring, overhead reduction, and a stronger focus on operations. It would be a good business school case study. If you can find good contractors, I recommend hiring direct and navigating rebates and Heat Loan financing on your own. Avoid the Homeworks morass if you can! read more

I interviewed for this company with high hopes, scored in the top 10% of their intelligence assessment, and the interviewer Sarsha Brewer got mad at me for rescheduling my interview and when I called her to figure out what time was best for her she said she'd call me back at 3 and never called and gave me shit for it like I'd done something wrong. If you're a customer and need to reschedule they might throw you out by this logic and villanize you. Social issues with this company, they're disrespectful to their workers and I can't imagine they're nice to their customers by that logic either. Bad review for humanity. read more

In the past week we had a first work crew of three young men to complete insulation work, which was completed over two days. A week later a second crew of two other men work on connecting our bathroom and attic to roof vents. All five of these young men were very professional, courteous and knowledgeable about the work they were to do and did. They showed me what they accomplished when finished and it appears they all did good work. They are excellent representatives of Homeworks Energy. In addition, the sales person was quite thorough and polite. He informed us about Mass Save discounts available as part of the work we had done. Only two issues: 1. there was some administrative hangups in completing the contract; and 2. If they had thought in advance they would have had the venting crew come first , because they were unable to reach a second bathroom after the blanket of insulation was put down. read more

Head for the hills...had I only had a crystal ball....paid 18K for new furnace..tankless water heater...and humidifier and A/C. 5 years and 2 weeks later hot water heater..water started to run hot then ice cold. Called service tech came out..said a sensor had dust..cleaned it and left...take shower or attempted to same exact thing ..now 2nd tech comes out..oh you now need power board sorry...warrenty expired 2 weeks ago sorry here is 2K estimate and need 1/2 up front. ok 3rd tech comes to install board opens box says it is broken never opened the box to check the board before even coming to install it...now 4th tech comes out with new replacement board..NOW tells us if is whole system not the power board after trying to install. soooooo bill for board was 2K new system is now over 3K and STILL 6 weeks later waiting for part to arrive and be installed.. Even when having tune ups twice a year have had several techs come out and frankly they have no or some actually have no idea WTF they are doing or even know how to service the system. read more

So glad I didn't pay for them to come out, got the free energy assessment due to mass save. First, they say they will contact you after you schedule your appointment within a few days, that didn't happen. Second, they also said they would contact you right before the appointment, that didn't happen. Third, Andrew, the rep just showed up and said this would take 2-3 hours, it actually was about 45 minutes. Fourth, Andrew completely freaked out when he walked into my bedroom and I was on the phone, just for seeing my cat. Fifth, I told him to let me know before going into my husband's office as no one, including me is suppose to be in his office due to the secure nature of his job and he went right up to his office and started talking to him. Sixth, he actually took my showerhead that was brand new and never used and put it in his bag. That is actually called stealing. Seventh, after he said he would go through the house he didn't even know we had 3 showers. Eighth, he started touching our clothes to get into the attic, he pretended to ask and I said no yet he continued to touch our clothes and I had to be firm and said do not touch our clothes. Ninth, he couldn't give me any report as there computers were down. Tenth, he said he had to put in the new showerheads or he would be fired yet left the 2 old showerheads and kept the new one for himself. Homeworks sent me an automated message saying that a service person was going to show up at my house to service our on demand water heater the following day. I agreed. The next day I was ready to go, but then an unexpected emergency happened and I called to cancel. I was put on hold and then the call ended. Due to the nature of the emergency that I needed to deal with, I couldn't call back. No service was performed, but I now owe them $249.00. Life happens Homeworks. People can't always be home. This is a sad reflection of how you view your customers. read more

This company was great. I waited for another contractor for a couple of months to get around to doing an assessment. These guys were out in a few days and the work was done in a few weeks. The only holdup was an electric sign off we needed but that wasn't their fault. All the workers were friendly and professional. I recommend them unreservedly. read more

Run as far away as you can. Installed my HVAC unit back in June. I have called 8 times from end of July on because there is black mold inside of the unit. It seems something was not installed properly for it to drain and is trapping moisture. I am told "we left a message for our service team." Every single time. I have not received a single call back and we are not into September. This places loves to do work to collect the tax incentives from the state but cannot or will not service it's faulty work. read more

Stay far away from Homeworks Energy. They improperly installed 2 of the 5 minisplits. The mini in the living room was much larger than agreed upon or contracted for. When the proper on was installed our Wall had holes in it. the Dining Room mini split was originally engineered to be piped in from the inside. No, that didn't happen. We now have an oversized conduit on the front of our house. Now the water heater they installed is leaking. Our basement now has a pool of water in one corner. Fortunately no serious damage. I have tried now for two weeks to get someone to fix it. twice i was told a 2 hour window. Twice I was stood up. This company is not responsive, they have poor engineering, amateur installers and a severe lack of communications with their customers. STAY FAR AWAY from Home Works Energy! I believe that a true measure of a company is how they handle things when things don't go as planned. In my case Homeworks handled my problem quickly and went above and beyond. They work with MASS SAVE and know their business inside and out. From the auditor, installation techs, customer service and more, they all were excellent. We thought this was great but a complete year later still gwas getting same old response, we are busy and the subcontractors are busy and oh yeah eversource was a big holdup. Well finally had a scheduled install time and guess what day one the electrical crew never showed no call no show after we cleared our work schedule to be home WTF. Made a call and guess what we start playing the blame game. No call back and day two the HVAC guys show up to install units, they had no idea that electrical work wasnt done but went ahead and spent two days installing units great job. I have contacted eversource myself and this info that Homeworks has given me is total crap. They do not know what is going on whatsoever. Can't wait to be done with these clowns!!!! read more
