    Leaking spot #2 (pre-fix)
    Mathew C.

Arif and his team was recommended to us by a neighbor here in Cheverly, MD. We called and got a quick response and a reasonable quote the same day after emailing over a few photos of the 3 dripping spots in our attic (see photos). He was able to fit us in the same week after we requested a quick fix before winter really got going, and his team arrived promptly within the window he provided. They did a solid job fixing up the 3 spots, and he also identified another spot on the roof that we didn't know about that needed a proper seal. He was able to fix that on the spot! Very impressed overall with this company, and we plan to hire them in the coming years to do a full roof replacement when the time comes. Super glad I got the referral I did, and I hope you reach out to Arif if you need some roofing assistance!

Windows on Washington got the job. My windows and my doors were being manufactured. So they sent out a wonderful gentleman to get the final accurate measurements. Great guy. Installation day was amazing as Joon and his team came in, got everything into place, and cleaned up the areas to better than when they got here. Joon then went over the features on our windows and even explained how we get to and clean the outsides of the glass. Wonderful man and amazing team. Since then, we have gotten copies of our warranty and the guarantees. And the company has reached out twice to ask if we have any questions and to ensure that we are happy with our windows. We are. They also got someone out pretty fast to measure the windows, so things kept moving without delays. I ordered 10 windows for my townhouse at the end of February, and everything stayed on track. The windows came in April, and installation was set up for the very next week, exactly how they said it would go. The install team (two guys, led by the amazing Mark) was awesome, very professional, worked efficiently, and took the time to protect my floors and furniture. They cleaned up as they went, which I definitely appreciated. Scott, the owner, stayed in touch throughout the day of installation and honestly throughout the whole process. I had a couple of window and sash issues but Scott was amazing and the kind of communication and follow-through really stood out. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the experience. They did exactly what they said they would do, and the customer service was top-notch. I'd definitely recommend ZEN Windows to anyone. It really was a calm, "ZEN-like" experience. Haha!!

Because it is a big project, I actually contacted at least 7-8 companies for quotes and ended up using American windows because of their best price and the best windows brand and glass package. Energy efficiency was my priority so I want the best price and best windows which seems to be very hard. But Jay (the project manager) made sure I got what I wanted. The team went out to install 40 windows and they absolutely did an excellent job. They were super friendly and professional. I'm very neat and detailed so they made sure all windows are cleaned and properly installed. After installing, they vacuumed and even mopped the floor for me. I'm very pleased with their work !

We really liked the windows (Sunrise Restorations) and moved forward with the project. The installation went flawless! I'm a bit of a perfectionist and usually have to stop myself from nitpicking on small little flaws from general contractors, but American Windows did such a stellar job I couldn't find a single flaw in their work. My project was complicated because my 1980s drywall shafts were the wrong size for modern solar blinds. Instead of just "making it work" or creating a huge mess with drywall dust, Zach proposed a brilliant custom solution: building a clean birch veneer box with custom trim. It looks stunning and kept my house completely dust-free. What impressed me most was Zach's integrity. During the install, a small piece of my old plastic molding snapped. Instead of ignoring it, Zach took full ownership and replaced the trim on both skylights with upgraded foam-backed wood molding at his own expense to ensure everything was airtight and uniform. It is not a simple fix but an upgrade, for free. See the attached before/after pictures and the broken plastic. Like most customers, I contacted a few contractors before selecting Winfield Builders. Their price is VERY reasonable, and the communication through Yelp was professional and transparent. It is rare to find a contractor who cares this much about the details. If you want a crew that is honest, skilled, and delivers a beautiful finish, call Zach. 1000% recommendation!

The waiting time can be long-it was at times during and right after the pandemic, due to material shortage, but that was the same everywhere else. The wait was always worth it. Customer service is excellent, as is the communication. Quotes are thorough and easy to understand: please note that you need to provide the rough opening size, and they will make sure to select the correct window size. Pick-up is simple and everyone is helpful and giving a hand to get you loaded. I do need to mention that the contractor I work with does the installation. I am retired, but up until a few years ago I held a commercial/residential Home Improvement…read moreContractor's license in Virginia. I have never installed a complete roof. First of all, Home Genius Exteriors (HGE) is not a roofing company. It is a nationally-franchised marketing and sales company that writes contracts for roof replacements and then subcontracts with actual roofing companies to do the work. The HGE people you deal with may never have installed a roof in their life. You are placing a lot of trust in people who, in my experience, are clueless about the subtle aspects of creating a waterproof roof. Although they say they "vetted" their subcontractors, that is a hollow promise. I would not recommend HGE to anyone unless they themselves are experienced in construction techniques and have the time to oversee all of the work. To begin with, the salesman, J. Holm, was definitely high pressure with the usual scare tactics (you NEED to repair your roof immediately), and an offer of a reduced cost if I signed immediately. I went ahead and signed because under Virginia's "Right to Cancel" law you have 3 days to cancel the contract. Once signed, I never talked to the sales guy again. My case was passed to a welcome lady, then to a lady who said she was the project coordinator, and then to the first "project manager" (PM). I never met any of those people, but they assured me that "their crew" would satisfy all of my worries. Yah, sure. The HGE PM arranged to have all the materials delivered to my house. The PM said "their crew" would arrive at 7:00 am the next day, and indeed they did. It was then I learned that they did not work at HGE; they were subcontractors. I asked them to check the weather because it was supposed to rain. They did, and said they didn't work in the rain, and left. The HGE "project manager" (PM) called me later and said the workers would arrive two days later. He never visited my home. I covered the material with a tarp myself. Two days later at 7:00AM the workers did arrive and said their boss was ill, but they said they would start work anyway. I was astounded that HGE did not have a project manager on duty to oversee the work. I called the HGE PM (I think I woke him up) and asked who was in charge and how could I be sure that my worries would be addressed. The HGE PM told me that he was "busy," so he was handing my case off to another PM who might stop by noon! It took a couple of phone calls and "convincing" language to get the two managers (the new guy, Issac Agyemang, from HGE and the subcontractor) to show up and explain to the Spanish-speaking workers exactly what I wanted. Once the managers arrived, the work began smoothly. The HGE PM remained on site for at most two hours then left and was not seen again until he came back to get paid two days later. There was no supervision of the subcontractor by any HGE person. The job took two days to complete, and fortunately I had the time and expertise to oversee the work. When the workers were just finishing the last step, I walked around the roof with the subcontractor boss. It all looked very well-done except that the vent boots were the wrong size for the copper vent pipes that I have. I pointed out to the subcontractor that there was a ¼-inch gap between the boot and the pipe, making it not waterproof. The kind of boots that they installed are very good silicone ones, but HGE had sent them the wrong boots, and the subcontractor didn't catch it until I pointed it out to them. Had I not been familiar with basic construction, the subcontractor (and HGE) would have left me with a leaking roof. The boot problem led to a seven-day back and forth as to what to do about the issue. I will not bore you with the details but suffice it to say it was very stressful for me and my wife. The HGE PM was totally clueless about the proper way to install the boots over copper pipes. I had to point him to the manufacturer's website that contained a detailed YT video on how to do the job. Rather than doing it according to the manufacturer's recommendation, the HGE PM and the subcontractors did their way. I gave up and let it pass. I'm guessing, but I think that of the money I paid to HGE, only about 15-20% went to the subcontractor, 20-30% for the supplies, and 50-60% went to HGE. The deceitful aspect is that HGE claims that these subcontractors are "their crews," which they are not. Eventually the work was done correctly. I hope that no one else has to rely on the technical incompetence of HGE to install their roof. You will not know ahead of time which roofing company will actually install your roof.
