Lots of grocery items very good prices. Very good selection, and very good value compared to retail stores

This grocery store has changed my life. Please understand, it's not a traditional grocery store (items are still in their shipping boxes, prices are written with sharpie, and there aren't super well defined sections) but it's incredibly cheap. I don't earn a lot and food has always been a stressor for me, so it feels amazing being able to walk around a store and pick out whatever I want and still stay under budget. Here's the types of products you can expect: Overstock - these foods may or may not be past expiration. Many of them are shelf stable or frozen. Damaged goods - items with faulty packaging or with blemishes, many have not yet hit expiration. Expired goods - no further explanation needed Staples - some staples are often stocked but they might be a little closer to standard grocery price as they're more for convenience. Home goods - pet items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc When I tell people about this store, they often get concerned about me getting sick, but I have never had a bad food experience with AAA Freight. If food has truly gone bad, they won't sell it. If it really concerns you, they have plenty of food that's not expired. Not only that, but they frequently carry organic or other health-oriented brands. Finally, the staff are super kind. If you need someone to open a box, hold the heavy freezer doors for a second, etc. they will do it in a heartbeat. Very helpful and ended up with a beautiful 4-door refrigerator and matching dishwasher. They delivered together for a single fee quickly and without damage. I was there for the first time two days ago. On the postive side, it is convenient and on two bus routes, the 34 and 36. The store is pretty nondescript and like others have stated, they sell a lot of Sysco rejects, which means large restaurant size cans of food. I was disappointed that they had items with a sell by date that was past the sell by date and they would not offer a discount for those items. Also, there is a large basket of canned fruit and veggies that are dented and but pretty expensive, considering. If you are carrying a backpack, you have to leave it at the front. A lot of the meat is in freezers and look like it could have freezer burn. The "fresh" vegetables they sell looked wilted but were relatively cheap. They have bread in bulk at a good price. I am not sure how to rate this store and I believe it deserves a second look. Some of the prices are similar to supermarket prices with a little discount. I plan to return to see if I can find some real bargains. read more

This is a super no frills bulk store will all kinds of great items. It was busy for a Saturday morning as expected, but checkout was quick and the ladies were so helpful and sweet! You do have to do some digging through the freezers to find what you need, but for a large family trying to save on groceries you can't beat it price wise. If you can't find an item you're looking for just ask and they will help you. read more

I love this store there was a lot to look at you never know what what kind of food you will find they have frozen foods but check for freezer burn we saw some frozen steaks in a mans shopping card and he told up what freezer they were in those steaks were $ 8.00 for four i did buy all four i did check dates on shelf foods and most were ok organic chips were so fresh im sorry i did not get more i live in chicago ill i found this place by looking under food stores in san antonio texas a grate find and the people here are extra nice they make you feel welcome like your at home i will be back next time i come into town this is a go to place the prices are very afordable so check it out read more

I'm pretty sure this is where Sysco (a restaurant provider, MY provider when I was a manager in a California restaurant) take their unsealeable product to sell, if you don't care the presentation of the product (i mean, you have to be a Karen to care more about presentation than not wasting your money) and you are ok checking expiration dates, this is your place to save money. I bought 12 coconut waters, 2 silk milks, creamers, 5lb parmesan cheese, toiletries, mustard, maple syrup, etc. For $60... what?? This will be the 1st place I shop from now on. read more

You'll find great prices if you have time to look around. There's lots of great priced items from canned goods to beauty items. The only downfall is that I did find several items that were expired. As long as you're checking dates you should be fine. I'll definitely be back and I do recommend a visit to this store. read more

I love this place. It's great for budgeting. The parking lot is small and busted and it's pretty run down looking, but don't let that stop you from exploring, you can get some great finds. The shelves and fridges are packed with great staples like condiments, milk, cheese, bread, and small snacks. Most of the freezers are packed with meat, which isn't for me since I'm a vegetarian, but I have been able to find great deals on fake meat, tofu, and tempeh before. There are also cheese pizzas and meatless TV dinners that are a great option. read more

This is not your typical grocery store, simple and straight forward. Prices are very low and variety of products from bulk restaurant to shelf pulls. Some items might be expired but not all, if that is a problem for you I suggest you check everything. I am happy to see that some of the items are available to purchase for much less than be thrown out. The household grocery bill was at least $1600 a month but is now about $400. Chain grocery stores have lobster tanks, sushi station, etc. but you pay for them at the cost of your actual necessities. I've compared prices on grocery apps and have consistently saved no less than 50%. I definitely recommend this grocery store for large families or those that like to shop and freeze for later. I absolutely love this store, and it has just about a little of everything anyone could need. Most of the food is sold in bulk and is something that Sysco would sell. They do have some indivisible sale items as well. With fresh vegetables and fresh eggs you really leave this store with tons of items for a fraction of the price. They do except Credit Card, Debit Card as well as Snap and Tanf cards. read more

I got a kick out of my first visit here today, not to mention some very good buys. It's a funky interesting place. We have only a small freezer atop our refrigerator, so it was frustrating seeing all the giant slabs of frozen meat at crazy low prices, but still I managed to nab some stuff I'd never ordinarily be able to afford, including some frozen shrimp and fish. Staff is very nice and helpful. Liked it a lot. Will be back. read more

AAA is like a smorgasbord of grocery chains in one. Or better yet, it's the flea-market of grocery stores? What I'm sayin' is, it's different. Yeah, and I know, AAA "Freight" doesn't sound sexy but don't let the name fool ya. AAA is located on the edge of S.Town entering the LaVaca Neighborhood. I had seen the sign for quite a while and always saw cars in their narrow lot, and so finally one day I stopped into see what this place was all about. What I found was a mix of items in the no-frills grocery store. You never know exactly what you are going to find because it's different most of the time. They seem to get bulk quantity of items and then put them out on the floor. The meat selection varies and is a bit odd at first. They have large freezers (the type a home owner might buy) and they store their meats in these. Sometimes there are regular packed items and sometimes you will find bulk items re-packaged to smaller sets. I've purchased salmon fillets, steaks, you name it. As I mentioned you never know what you'll find. One time I found cases of Sweet Leaf Tea (my fav) for $5 a pop. Then I went back their supply was gone. Another time I found some Kashi products for just a couple of bucks (Kashi retails for much more), and the next time I went they were out. General items you know you will find but as far as specific items/labels, this is what seems to vary. If you are good for the off beat and fine with a little adventure (yes, even a grocery visit can be adventurous) I say give AAA Freight Groceries a spin. i can't believe I didn't take a picture of this place. if you blink you'll miss It. This place is a last resort, last call, damaged on delivery, or a restaurant had too much or didn't need it at all and other grocery store items. The place is pretty snug when you walk in. All hands to your side kinda place. In the front you'll find sodas, cereals, and baking goods. When you get to the back you'll find almost ten huge freezers. They all have little surprises inside. Bags of vegetables, Breaded chicken fingers, salmon, biscuits, ice cream, or mystery bags you really have to shake and figure it out. It requires alot of digging. And a little of "What do i really need." Then back further you have freezer doors like you're in actual grocery store. Lots of discounted pizzas or TV dinners. i would advise to know what thing really cost at your local Grocery store. Sometimes the discount is not enough and sometimes its a Steal. I got Starbucks instant coffee that comes in a little packet. I've seen it at HEB for $8 . I got it at AAA for $4.00. Pretty good i thought. read more

Some things might be cheap there? Not that I really noticed. They have interesting groceries nothing I would really use, but everything not in bulk pretty much matched the same as you would get it anywhere else, even the stuff in bulk wasn't very cheap. The staff was pretty friendly though. read more

What a random grocery store. This all seems to be stuff that "fell off the back of a truck" or got sent back to the factory because something was weird with it. There's lots of themed food- have you ever wondered what happens to those Spiderman Fruit Roll-Ups after Spiderman is no longer in the theaters? The food's still good, but it's got weird themes sometimes. They have specials and clearance here, where you can get food on the super, super cheap. If you don't mind eating a whole wheel of brie, or 5 lbs of garbanzo beans, this is the place to go. They have all kinds of ingredients, but the selection is always incredibly spotty. You never know if you're going to have to buy 10 lbs or 10 oz of what you need. Either way, it's going to be super cheap. Parking is strange, and it can be difficult to get in and out of here. The check out clerk opens the door for you with a long rope. Be sure to check out the daily specials at the door- there's always some super hot deals going on. read more

I knew when I went in there this was a "fall off the back of a truck" kinda place but wow I didn't even know where to start looking. All I needed was milk eggs butter. 1 gallon of nonfat milk, no eggs and by the time it was time to start looking for the butter my patience was wearing thin. I prolly won't be back even tho it's walking distance from the house. BTW I went up to Family Dollar got everything I needed. I have shopped at this store for nearly a year, because the prices are good and they have some unusual merchandise-but I won't be going back. My niece was rudely verbally assaulted and accused (loudly) of shoplifting by a new employee, apparently on the basis of-get this- the video camera showing her TAKING A PIECE OF PAPER OUT OF HER[VERY SMALL]PURSE-and putting it back. My niece is TEN. The employee did not speak to her mother-who was right there-but instead loudly commanded my niece to 'take out whatever you put in your purse, because we have you on video shoplifting"! So, she emptied her purse-and there was no merchandise in it. There's more to the story, but suffice it to say, when my sister called the owner, she was told that she'd better not be seen going into her purse, because she'd be accused of shoplifting too. I just moved into my new place & needed to stock up on staples. A close friend of mine recommended AAA and I was very glad he did. I got some great bargains & stuff that would've normally cost me $80 plus only cost $56! I was pleasantly surprised and will faithfully return. read more

Lots to find here if you take your time to look. Some of the items are priced about the same as new in a regular store, but many items are 50+% off. Lots of restaurant packaged items (chicken nuggets, pizza toppings etc...) Different every visit, some trips you will find more bargains than others. Worth a trip. read more

This is the sort of place you go to when you have time to dig around. Seriously, look inside chest freezers, coolers, every shelf, on the floor... everywhere. Things are cheap, but for a reason. They are either close to expiring, expired, repackaged, or there's just a few of them left. The veggies and fruits are poor quality and I've yet to buy any. Meats are sometimes priced low, but they don't always have dates on them, and some look freezer burnt, so not sure I want to risk eating them. I don't think there is a return policy either so be sure you look over everything twice before you buy it. That said, I've gotten some good deals on cat food, canned goods, juices, and pantry items. They also had some good frozen green beans on sale last time I was there. read more

They have lots to buy. Some are great prices and others are the same as grocery stores. You will always find a hidden gem here. The workers are helpful to find things. They also take food stamps. The only con is that they should double check their expired items. read more

This is actually a great $$$-saver on some items. I found some excellent New York Strip Steaks for next to nothing and they were excellent! Be familiar with the prices at your usual grocery stores, though, sometimes they'll run about the same. But your dairy, bread and meats are usually at excellent prices. Do check the expiration dates and go there about once a wk. as their stock changes pretty frequently. Ive found everything from fresh, ready to eat salads and hummus (with crackers), to yogurt and tiramisu cake from La Madeliene's and all of it at very affordable price! Enjoy your shopping! read more
