Tyler came on short notice on a Sunday and fixed a loose wire in the attic and a busted compressor in short order.

So I decided to try a different company for this maintenance. The experience was beyond what I expected. The appointment was made with ease and all my questions were answered with patience and clarity. Robert came to do an inspection and showed me photos of the state of my system. There were areas that had clearly not been cleaned properly previously. He did a thorough inspection, and cleaning and went above and beyond. He was knowledgeable, respectful and his work ethic was excellent. I could smell the difference for the first time in years and the house finally no longer had a musty smell. It smells fresh and clean. I can't say how grateful I am. Thank you So Cal Air and THANK YOU, Robert!!!

Robert handled the initial evaluation and was very thorough and professional. Although So Cal Air's estimate was not the cheapest, it was the most comprehensive--including drywall patching and painting--which ultimately made me feel the most comfortable moving forward with them. Other companies either tried to upsell me on a UV lighting system or suggested opening up the entire hallway ceiling, which felt excessive for the scope of work. After accepting the estimate, there was a delay of over two weeks before I was contacted to schedule the service, and I do think communication during that time could have been improved. That said, once they reached out, they were able to schedule the work for the very next day. Victor and his crew were professional and efficient, completing the job in about half a day. They left the space clean, and the overall quality of work met my expectations. Thank you, So Cal Air!

In this regard, Jesus came out to look at our AC system yesterday, which has been working only intermittently. Following a very thorough diagnostic assessment of the overall unit, Jesus suggested that we hold off installing any new parts at this time, as the system is somewhat old and doesn't provide any specifics concerning what needs to be replaced. Indeed, I appreciated Jesus's honest and straightforward assessment, as opposed to relying on guesswork to resolve the problem. At this point, I expect that we will likely be replacing our aging unit sometime this year....and, without a doubt, Manny's will be the company I call to do the job. Along with providing prompt and excellent service, the three technicians I've met from his company have all been very professional, courteous, and personable. Thus, for anyone in need of AC service, Manny's should definitely be the first business to call.

The original installer added some foam pads (he then retired), but the noise never went away. Since we don't use the heat much in LA, it wasn't a constant bother but every winter, it would bug me (and some of my neighbors). I called in several HVAC companies to check it out... one tech even added a crankcase heater in March saying, "oh give it time to work" -- but no one could figure it out. Now that it's getting cold again, the noise returned. So I found Nic on Yelp last week and decided to give him a call since he's local to Silver Lake. From the start, he was great--he listened to the whole saga, was easy to schedule, and sent text reminders and updates with his arrival time. Once he checked out the system, he was able to recreate the noise right away and solved it by pulling the copper line slightly away from the wall and adding new insulation to buffer. He also replaced insulation on lines from the roof compressor to protect from the sun. After multiple HVAC techs and years of frustration, I'm SO relieved to finally have a solution. Nic is a fantastic communicator, knowledgeable, and genuinely personable. I'm excited to have found a reliable local HVAC tech I can count on for future work!

I assumed it was the AC unit sitting right above it, so I contacted Pioneers in a mild panic. They quickly put me in touch with Tomer, who showed up that same afternoon to take a look. From the moment he arrived, Tomer was calm, kind, and completely professional, which is exactly what you want when you're stressed about water dripping through your ceiling. He diagnosed the problem efficiently: our AC drip pan had overflowed due to a clogged drain pipe. He walked us through everything as he went, answering every question we threw at him without making us feel like we were slowing him down. He needed a couple of additional parts he didn't have on hand, so he promised to return Monday morning to finish the job. And he did, right on time. When yet another part turned out to be needed mid-repair, he didn't reschedule or leave us hanging. He went out, got it himself, and came straight back to finish what he started. No drama, no delays. While he was up in the attic, he also flagged some rat droppings and other pest concerns. But not in a pushy, upsell-y way, but just as a heads-up. "Here's what I'm seeing, I can get you a quote if you want." Refreshingly straightforward. Tomer turned a stressful Sunday emergency into a resolved problem by Monday afternoon. Thanks Pioneers H&A!

This update is to further document and clarify the significantly poor HVAC installation performed by Southwest Heating and Air Conditioning during the summer of 2021 at my residence. A comprehensive inspection by a licensed and reputable HVAC firm has confirmed the following serious safety violations and breaches of California Mechanical, Electrical, and Building Codes resulting from Southwest's substandard and negligent work: Documented Violations: 1. Bypassed Safety Controls, creating a substantial risk of fire, explosion, and system failure. 2. Improper Electrical Wiring within the burner box, posing a direct fire hazard. 3. Improper Condensate Drainage, which resulted in significant water intrusion and structural water damage to the property. 4. Undersized Return Ducting, creating airflow restriction, energy inefficiency, and potential for equipment overheating. 5. Improper Duct Layout and Disconnected Supply Vents, severely impacting system performance and overall safety. Applicable Code Violations: The above findings constitute violations of the following codes and standards: * California Mechanical Code (CMC): §§301.0, 303.1, 310.1, 310.4, 601.2, 603.1 * California Electrical Code (CEC): §§110.3(B), 110.12(A), 300.4 * California Building Code (CBC): §1202.2 * Health & Safety Code (HSC): §17920.3 * Title 24 (Energy Code) - various provisions governing duct sizing, energy efficiency, and safety compliance. Financial Impact: * Water damage remediation paid by AAA Home Insurance: approximately $30,000 * Out-of-pocket costs to remove and replace the hazardous HVAC installation: approximately $17,000 Regulatory Action and Bond Claim: * A formal investigation is currently underway by the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB), which has been provided with extensive documentation, including inspection reports, photographic evidence, and video footage. * Upon contacting Southwest's bond provider, no rebuttal or denial of the identified violations was issued, further confirming the legitimacy of the claims. Given the egregious nature of these violations and the demonstrated pattern of disregard for safety, code compliance, and consumer protection, I strongly caution any individual or organization against contracting with Southwest Heating and Air Conditioning. The risk posed to property, life, and legal liability is substantial and well-documented.

Good golly, am I grateful for meeting the fine folks at GREEN PLANET!…read more * OH NO! MY OLD AC WIZARD RETIRED! Long story semi-short, my AC of 26 years had been on its last legs since about 2017... I'd been postponing the inevitable with R-22 recharge + leak sealant, with service from a older fellow whom I'd had a great relationship with, for almost a decade. Between 2020 and 2025, all seemed "tolerable" with my old Payne/Carrier AC + furnace. But last fall, it was clear my system had given up the ghost... and unbeknownst to me, the fabulous older gentleman who'd been coming here off and on for years, retired and moved out of state. I needed some new AC geniuses! Let the research and bidding/quoting madness begin! * FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESSES ARE BEST! I know everyone says "go local," and avoid things (giant franchises, etc.) that rhyme with "Bosco," for such an install (as well as gear sharing the first name of a famous 1990s-era heavyweight boxer w/the last name of Lewis). I'll let you imagine how that "almost" experience went... The FAMILY-OWNED business that is GREEN PLANET not only saved me heaps, but educated me about what would truly be needed, to go the "heat pump" route (my initial intention). Given that I have ancient, single-pane windows, and am in a tricky financial spot (I can't really upgrade my insulation to seal up the home to make a heat pump be 100% effective, let alone, replace windows), I ended up going with a rock solid, super efficient, side discharge AC condenser (due to vertical clearance limitations) and a new furnace (more details below). Nice! * "OFFICE" ETTIQUETTE Anyone curious about GREEN PLANET's "office" coordination... I wrote to Jay through their website... he phoned within an hour... I explained as best I could (background / issues / wants), he made an appointment to come out on Tuesday... He was on time, inspected the premises and advised... and his entire crew was out here THE NEXT DAY, taking care of business. I've had no AC since last September. (Though I've survived in here for 4 years without it, ages ago.) And now I'm CHILLIN'!!!!! (For PARENTS: I also appreciate the fact that the crew were extra aware of their environment, given that my son was home from school, sick; they were always mindful of him, in their midst.) * SOME INSTALLATION SPECIFICS A 2-ton unit was installed, replacing/upgrading from basically what I had... and my existing ducting is still rock solid, which also saved me some cash (by not needing new ducting). A wiring upgrade to accommodate the newer, more powerful/efficient unit... and DONE deal! * THANK YOU! Giant high five to Jay, Nola, the install leader Andre, and GREEN PLANET's fabulous crew! Can't thank you enough for your kindness, thoroughness, and awareness of economics :-) Dale PS: Their T-shirts are the COOLEST! (Pun?)

Green Planet provided a very competitive quote and handled the complex installation flawlessly. The Quote: They offered a high-quality product at a reasonable price, even with the added scope of electrical work. They also handled the permit process, which was essential for our rebates. Initial Inspection: We worked with Jay, who was professional and incredibly thorough. Unlike others, he took the time to properly inspect our electrical panel, furnace, and attic space. The Process: The project took about four days total over a two-week span (two days for installation, plus one afternoon each for the HERS and City inspections). Green Planet scheduled all inspections for us, making it stress-free. Heat Pump: We got the AC Pro XB Series heat pump. Specs met all rebate requirements for max refund. Payment: The schedule was fair--a $1k deposit, 50% upon delivery, and the final balance once the unit was installed. Paperwork: They provided all paperwork necessary for heat pump rebate. Green Planet was a great choice in term of product and service, and I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a heat pump installation.

Please look at my profile for proof…read more I had a really regrettable experience with Air Elite Heating and Cooling--would strong suggest not using this business for any kind of product install. I paid $11,000 for a job that really is substandard. 1. Danny came to do my quote and was very nice, but when actual installation came he was not onsite. A very young and inexperienced guy installed the units basically in the middle of the wall. I was not consulted asked before the guy tore huge fist size holes in my wall that are in no way standard placement for mini splits. The guy moved the unit, I had to pay for the walls to be repaired and repainted! 2. The condenser was placed on the ground in the driveway. Again--I was never consulted about where it was to be installed. It should have been installed on the side of the house--it limits the function of my driveway forever. I cannot get my recycling/trash out if I am parked in my own driveway. 3. The drains that were placed on the outer wall of my house were installed so poorly that they constantly fall off. They were not adhered at all. When I put them back up, they are fitted so shoddily that they cannot be secured. Every time I pick them up and try to reassemble them--I can see how jankily they were put together. One of them is now cracked and water is spewing all over my wall. For nearly $11K spent, I feel really taken advantage of and bad about the integrity of their work. I contacted them in advance of this review with all of these points--they never responded.
