I had four different companies come out to provide estimates for branching off an existing HVAC system to add a new supply vent to an interior room. Robert handled the initial evaluation and was very thorough and professional. Although So Cal Air's estimate was not the cheapest, it was the most comprehensive--including drywall patching and painting--which ultimately made me feel the most comfortable moving forward with them. Other companies either tried to upsell me on a UV lighting system or suggested opening up the entire hallway ceiling, which felt excessive for the scope of work. After accepting the estimate, there was a delay of over two weeks before I was contacted to schedule the service, and I do think communication during that time could have been improved. That said, once they reached out, they were able to schedule the work for the very next day. Victor and his crew were professional and efficient, completing the job in about half a day. I would highly recommend So Cal Air to anyone looking for honest, thorough HVAC service. This is the second time I've used them this year, and I couldn't be happier. Last month, they fixed a relay switch that -- with some adjustments -- started working again. The technician noted the part in case the problem returned, rather than just replacing it outright. I was happy they saved me the unnecessary expense AND conveniently noted the part so I could just call if it happened again. Since that first visit went so well, I scheduled my yearly spring maintenance with them. I always have my HVAC serviced every March, but I can say that David (I think it was David) did a noticeably more thorough job than I've experienced in past years. Air quality affects your health more than people realize, and getting your vents cleaned is something everyone should take VERY seriously. ( it causes so many underlying health problems it's insane ) I had them come in for a DEEP vent cleaning for our new apartment, and they went beyond what I expected, Fully disinfecting everyyyyything. So Cal Air was able to come out the same-day to try and diagnose a sour gym bag type smell that was happening only during the cooling cycle. After examining the evaporator coil, drain pan, and other parts, which were all relatively new and clean, they suggested using an hvac odor neutralizer, which immediately took away the smell and per my indoor air quality monitor does not appear to be having any negative impact on the air quality (PM or VOCs). They made additional suggestions to ensure no lingering issues, but I'm posting now for the great customer service, effort to come out quickly, answering all of our plentiful questions, and providing a solution that made an immediate and dramatic improvement. read more

Replacing 12-15 year old rooftop HVAC. Obtained estimates from 5 companies total. All were in the same price range for installation. Gas/electric split or heat pump, with the lowest end was around $13,000 from all of them. So Cal Air offered the best unit at that price, a heat-pump American Standard, and importantly, they were the only company to offer a 15 SEER2 efficient unit that is eligible for the federal $2000 rebate. They also cleaned all the ducts (only one other offered this included), rebuilt the stand/curb, and installed a new Nest thermostat. So Cal Air Owner Menooa was the most thorough of the free estimates , and the only company to actually look at why the old HVAC needed to be replaced. Initially he thought he could fix the original system. This was preferable as the cost was one tenth the price of replacement, and could be done immediately. He did the work and unfortunately missed the original problem, and the HVAC broke again within a week. This was inconvenient for me, but I appreciated Menooa acknowledging the mistake and immediately refunding the entire cost of repair without question. His honesty added to my confidence hiring them to do the larger HVAC replacement. A couple months later, heat is working well and very satisfied overall. read more

One of the best experiences I've ever had with any trade company, period. Quick backstory: I had been using another company for years to service my old HVAC system, so I gave them the first shot at quoting a replacement. I had learned about the HEEHRA rebates through them and wanted to switch to a heat pump. But when they came out, they basically told me they didn't want to deal with the HEEHRA process, the state paperwork, or any of the extra steps involved. He was able to come out and confirm that the other company was not reliable or honest and said that everything was fine and I had nothing to worry about at this time. And in the future, if I was concerned, he'd be happy to help and it would not be a big deal. His estimates were a better value than the quotes. My hvac system needed cleaning from the recent fires in Altadena. So Cal Air showed up but discovered my system used a different sized filter they didn't have. They also discovered I had a larger system than anticipated. Since their quote was based on a smaller system they gave a discount for a larger system. They cleaned my old filthy filters so I could use the system (it was really chilly in my house) and ordered ones that fit. Then they came back and installed the correct filters. My furnace broke about two months ago so I called the company who installed our furnace which we paid a fortune to and who's been servicing it also a fortune. They came out and told me I needed to spend $1300 on a simple seven dollar button. So I had them leave. Another company came out charged me $500 to do absolutely nothing they left. I called another company that again told me it was something else completely differently and I could fix it for $2300.
