I had four different companies come out to provide estimates for branching off an existing HVAC system to add a new supply vent to an interior room. Robert handled the initial evaluation and was very thorough and professional. Although So Cal Air's estimate was not the cheapest, it was the most comprehensive--including drywall patching and painting--which ultimately made me feel the most comfortable moving forward with them. Other companies either tried to upsell me on a UV lighting system or suggested opening up the entire hallway ceiling, which felt excessive for the scope of work. After accepting the estimate, there was a delay of over two weeks before I was contacted to schedule the service, and I do think communication during that time could have been improved. I had very good experiences with So Cal Air and definitely recommend them. Both the business and the construction parts of the job went smoothly. Communication was good. They helped me understand options and worked with me on what I wanted. They did what they said they would do. They were flexible and took the time to finesse the work where it was needed. Good quality work. Permits went fine, and everything passed the first time. My 1930 property has a 2-story duplex and a house. I live in one unit and have renters in the other units. I talked to several companies about the work. So Cal Air was more responsive than other companies. Menooa was very knowledgeable and helpful during the first meeting, offering me options. Their proposal was competitive with other proposals. They helped me understand options and were flexible, and worked with me through the installation of what I wanted. They installed 3 separate systems for me, one system for each unit. Each system had 3 zones. I've had many repairs to my property over the years, and the details matter to me. I wanted to hide the lines as much as practical, preserve the architectural look. My contractor handled the electrical installation and opened and repaired the drywall after the lines were installed. SoCal Air worked well with my contractor. Renovation of older construction is often complicated and takes extra effort. We had to come up with some creative solutions, and SoCal Air did a great job! My units were installed above doors and windows. My contractor modified the living room cove ceilings so the indoor units would fit close to the ceiling. So Cal Air did everything else. Everything fits great and looks great! I appreciated that Manooa gave good recommendations to steer me away from difficulties, but he also listened to me and headed my wishes when it mattered to me. So Cal Air handled the permits for the heat pumps. The installation passed the LA Building and Safety inspections with no issues. The work was finished late summer, early fall of 2025, after the heat, but in time for winter. Heating worked great in winter. We had a chance to use the cooling during a recent heat wave, and it worked great! I bought the heat pumps primarily for cooling, since the apartments had only heating and had never had cooling before. The units work great! The temperature stays very comfortable. Everything is very quiet. I barely know they are on, except when I open the door and am shocked by how hot it is outside. My tenants gave me positive feedback and have been very happy with the heat pumps. My property still looks like 1930, but it doesn't feel like 1930 anymore! I am very happy with their work and the results. I've recommended So Cal Air to several friends. read more

Had a great experience with using So Cal Air for the first time. We found - to our horror - an old, leaking battery in an air duct in our home. We did some of our own cleanup, but wanted to make sure that everything was properly taken care of. So Cal Air responded quickly to my inquiry and came out two days later to assess. So Cal Air was able to come out the same-day to try and diagnose a sour gym bag type smell that was happening only during the cooling cycle. After examining the evaporator coil, drain pan, and other parts, which were all relatively new and clean, they suggested using an hvac odor neutralizer, which immediately took away the smell and per my indoor air quality monitor does not appear to be having any negative impact on the air quality (PM or VOCs). They made additional suggestions to ensure no lingering issues, but I'm posting now for the great customer service, effort to come out quickly, answering all of our plentiful questions, and providing a solution that made an immediate and dramatic improvement. read more

I was in dire straits as my AC broke down during a muggy heatwave and our home became extremely uncomfortable. I called a different HVAC company initially, but they only took a message. I pivoted to So Cal Air and they were able to give me a same-day appointment. Arshin, the technician, arrived at the early part of the appointment window. After checking a few things, Arshen was able to identify the issues and replaced the malfunctioning capacitor and fuses. Within 30 or so minutes, he was able to get cool air flowing into the house again...HALLELUJAH! He patiently answered multiple questions, and he also provided his technical insights and expertise on other HVAC-related queries. I've never had HVAC service done on my 15-year old unit, so I can't say for certain how fair the pricing was. Replacing 12-15 year old rooftop HVAC. Obtained estimates from 5 companies total. All were in the same price range for installation. Gas/electric split or heat pump, with the lowest end was around $13,000 from all of them. So Cal Air offered the best unit at that price, a heat-pump American Standard, and importantly, they were the only company to offer a 15 SEER2 efficient unit that is eligible for the federal $2000 rebate. They also cleaned all the ducts (only one other offered this included), rebuilt the stand/curb, and installed a new Nest thermostat. So Cal Air Owner Menooa was the most thorough of the free estimates , and the only company to actually look at why the old HVAC needed to be replaced. Initially he thought he could fix the original system. This was preferable as the cost was one tenth the price of replacement, and could be done immediately. He did the work and unfortunately missed the original problem, and the HVAC broke again within a week. This was inconvenient for me, but I appreciated Menooa acknowledging the mistake and immediately refunding the entire cost of repair without question. His honesty added to my confidence hiring them to do the larger HVAC replacement. A couple months later, heat is working well and very satisfied overall. read more

One of the best experiences I've ever had with any trade company, period. Quick backstory: I had been using another company for years to service my old HVAC system, so I gave them the first shot at quoting a replacement. I had learned about the HEEHRA rebates through them and wanted to switch to a heat pump. But when they came out, they basically told me they didn't want to deal with the HEEHRA process, the state paperwork, or any of the extra steps involved. Their answer was essentially: if that's the route you want to go, you need to find someone else. That led me to So Cal Air, and I'm very glad it did. From the start, the customer service was outstanding. Talin was incredible -- responsive, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. She walked me through the entire rebate process, not just with the state, but with LADWP as well, and made what could have been a confusing, frustrating process feel easy. He was honest, straightforward, and there was absolutely no upsell. He recommended what made sense for the house, made sure all the requirements were met for the rebates, and came in about $10,000 lower than the other quotes I had received. My HVAC system was overdue (by a few years) for a check-up and I was also considering a change of thermostat/control, so I skipped over to Yelp and ended up going with So Cal Air, based on their reviews. I made an appointment for the following week through the Yelp app (which also sent my project info to a few other businesses, who responded as well). On the scheduled day, So Cal Air's technician, Robert, showed up on time and spent about 3 hours servicing my FAU/AC units and replacing my original thermostat/control (and another component that had gone bad). I should mention that there was quite a bit of cleaning to do, as it had been awhile since my last service (with another company). He was very knowledgeable and efficient and explained everything he was doing. I was very happy with his work and his attitude and I will contact them in a year for the next service. As has been mentioned by others, So Cal Air's fee isn't cheap, but neither is it unreasonable. I consider it money well spent. read more

My AC wasn't removing the normal amount of humidity during a recent heatwave. And we couldn't pinpoint the cause. Robert form So Cal Air came by and, after cleaning coils and checking our freon levels he inspected our duct system which had clearly been installed by someone of low competency. The source of the problem wasn't immediately clear but Robert stayed at our house, tracing all of the ductwork until we figured out what was wrong. At one point Robert literally had to crawl on his stomach on the ground beneath our house to access a potential trouble spot near the foundation. At another point Robert helped me move heavy boxes out of storage in our crawlspace so we could get a proper look at the ductwork. He didn't leave until we figured out the problem, which is a story for another day. Anyhow, without Robert's professionalism and dedication the mystery would have remained unsolved. I got a very quick response in the owner was able to come out the next day to evaluate my unit. A competitor was trying to convince us that we needed to do major repairs or replace your air-conditioning. The also suggested we replace the furnace, but something in my gut did not feel right and there was too many red flags. He was able to come out and confirm that the other company was not reliable or honest and said that everything was fine and I had nothing to worry about at this time. And in the future, if I was concerned, he'd be happy to help and it would not be a big deal. His estimates were a better value than the quotes. I was being strong-armed into accepting by the other company. There was no sales pitch. He put my anxiety to ease. He even threw in caps to cover the valves of an air-conditioning unit that just happened to be missing once the other service provider decided that I needed more freon and had a leak. read more
