I'd been postponing the inevitable with R-22 recharge + leak sealant, with service from a older fellow whom I'd had a great relationship with, for almost a decade. Between 2020 and 2025, all seemed "tolerable" with my old Payne/Carrier AC + furnace. But last fall, it was clear my system had given up the ghost... and unbeknownst to me, the fabulous older gentleman who'd been coming here off and on for years, retired and moved out of state. I needed some new AC geniuses! Let the research and bidding/quoting madness begin! * FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESSES ARE BEST! I know everyone says "go local," and avoid things (giant franchises, etc.) that rhyme with "Bosco," for such an install (as well as gear sharing the first name of a famous 1990s-era heavyweight boxer w/the last name of Lewis). I'll let you imagine how that "almost" experience went... The FAMILY-OWNED business that is GREEN PLANET not only saved me heaps, but educated me about what would truly be needed, to go the "heat pump" route (my initial intention). Given that I have ancient, single-pane windows, and am in a tricky financial spot (I can't really upgrade my insulation to seal up the home to make a heat pump be 100% effective, let alone, replace windows), I ended up going with a rock solid, super efficient, side discharge AC condenser (due to vertical clearance limitations) and a new furnace (more details below). Our HVAC drain pan was leaking water following an install by another company. Jason showed up on time and did a nice, thorough job clearing out the drain line. I first contact Jay at Green Planet more than a year and a half ago when I was considering replacing a single mini split unit in my home. Jay was thorough in his inspection and laid out all my options, including replacing the one unit, adding two other mini splits to cover the two bedrooms, and pricing to install central air and heat (roughly the same price as the 3 mini splits). Fast forward a year and a half later (when I was finally ready to pull the trigger and after I'd gotten multiple bids) and I called Green Planet again. This is my second time reviewing Green Planet Heating and Air. A/C went out today at the house. Mother in law signed us up for a home protection plan that covered maintenance on plumbing, and HVAC systems. Figured I'd give them a call to come out and see if they could fix what was going on with the A/C. Guy came out and immediately asked me how old the system was, which I thought was strange considering he hadn't even looked at the unit yet to determine if the age of the unit was the problem. He ended up going up on the roof to look at it and said some of the wiring was fried, and that the compressor might be bad but that it wasn't worth fixing because the unit was 20 years old. I told him I was going to get a second opinion, and then he said he would contact his supervisor to see if they would be able to fix it. He said he would replace the wiring, and add something to aid the compacitor to start. Quoted me $875, with no promises it would fix the problem. I passed and said I would get a second opinion. Green Planet came out within 2 hours, and replaced the compacitor, and wiring for $400 and the unit is back up and running. When we do actually end up needing a new unit I'll definitely be giving Green Planet my business. Thanks again! read more

I never write reviews but I am writing this review to warn the consumers of my experience with this company. The grade for this company is negative 100 or -100. This company does not even deserve a zero grade. I called this company three times and left a message to call me back, no return call. I strongly believe the owner gave all the instructions to his techicians. Before 7/19/24, I called Green Planet Heating & Air and requested the same technician, a Russian and was pretty good. Instead this company sent two technicians to perform the Preventive Maintenance. When they arrived, I ask for their names. They opted not to give their names. Instead one of the technician gave me the business card of the owner. The air condition compressor is located at the roof of the condo. With that set-up, I have no way of knowing whether the technicians performed the required preventive maintenance. These were the red flags of this company: 1. No checklist of the PM's that will be performed and no explanations of what they will check when I asked them, 2. I was informed by one of the technicians that the receipt of payment and checklist of work done will be emailed to me, 2. The technicians were in the roof for less than 10 minutes, 3. The air condition filter was replaced by swamp cooler pad that was cut to fit the size of the 16 X 25 X 1 air condition filter - see photo, 4. The dirts were not collected by the swamp pad (not to be used for air conditioning unit)instead it comes back inside the condo - see photo of the intake vent. 5. The two technicians left hurriedly and appeared nervous because they know they did something wrong. I was informed that everything that they are doing were the instructions from the owner. Background: I had a newly installed Trane HVAC unit by Aeris Heating and Air Conditioning on December 2023. This company went bankrupt. Unfortunately, there was a water leak and I called the owner of Aeris Heating and Air Conditioning - unit is still under warranty. Aeris laid off its entire staff. It seems to me that the owner of Aeris and Green Planet are friends. Green planet sent one of their technicians. The leak was fixed and I don't have to pay anything. Then, the air condition stopped working. So, I called again the owner of Aeris. Green Planet sent the same technician and the problem was resolved. I don't have to pay anything. When I asked the technician of the copy of the work order, I was informed that the arranged repairs is just between Aeris and Green Planet and I don't deserve a copy. Since, I have good experience with this technician for the two repairs, I called Green Planet to send the same technician for the Preventive Maintenance but was informed that he was busy and instead they send these two service technicians mentioned above. My newly installed HVAC was under warranty for two years since Aeris went bankrupt, I am forced to pay the PM which is included the total package. I just want to warm the consumers of this company for their unscrupulous business practices. Please do not deal with this company unless you have a technical background or exposure because it may cost you more money to repair your HVAC unit. If you deal with this company you are at risk of getting your HVAC unit damaged. read more

Changed from 2 stars to 4 stars. As a follow-up to my original posted review below, Jay (the owner) called me and apologized for how things went with the service call. He also refunded the $95 service charge and offered to do a free maintenance on the AC unit. I do appreciate Jay taking the time to call me and providing the refund. He does seem to care about his customers and I may just take him up on the AC maintenance. ------------ My AC wasn't blowing any cold air so I called Green Planet for help. Spoke with Jay over the phone and easily made an appointment for next day. The service call charge was $95 but goes towards cost of the repair and I was sure some kind of repair was needed. Technician came out the next day to look at my unit. Spent over an hour and told me he couldn't figure out what was wrong. He went outside to make a phone call, then came back in and said it could be the electronic board that needed replacement.
