We had a mishap this morning in a Muir Beach residential neighborhood where one wheel of the car went off the narrow street so the car was stuck & in a precarious situation. I turned 50 a few weeks back and it seems chaos followed me. I found out that the commercial auto insurance I had was canceled back in September ! I found this out in December and my current insurance team didn't know. My business was at a standstill and 10 attempts at coverage had been denied. Insurance companies hate CA. I showed up at the San Rafael branch to find Brandon on the lobby. He was great and very thorough. Assured me that he could help transfer my vehicles to my personal ownership that day. That didn't solve the business problem. My large trucks were not covered, business was over. My five employees were gonna have to find work and I was gonna go find a job. I told Brandon about this and he said AAA had a commercial line that might work. I was transferred to Barb who was also amazing!! She helped finish the title transfers on my pick up trucks and said "hey it's Christmas, believe in miracles". Once my pick up trucks were transferred I went to Mervin. He's the agent who put my pick up trucks into my personal insurance. While doing that we spoke about a commercial line for my big trucks. He said let's see what we can do. 1 hour later, 45 minutes after they were supposed to close and his buddies were waiting for him, he had provided me commercial insurance and honestly saved my company. In all honesty, in 50 years I've watched society dwindle away with poor customer service, people who can't be bothered and employees and businesses who seem annoyed to "help" their customers. Brandon, Barb and Mervyn never wavered. They treated me like royalty and I couldn't be happier. I've had so many people reach out in the past 48 hours to see if I was gonna save the company. At State Farm, you drove it to a repair shop that State Farm okay's and they fix it. At AAA, I spent 45 minutes to get a claim #. They asked questions like, "where is your car". Then I got a claim #. I found an auto repair place. I had to call AAA to get the company the claim #. This took ONE hour. AAA claims to help the customer. This is a lie! read more

During a bomb cyclone, I hobbled into the San Rafael AAA office with a DMV form for a temporary handicap parking permit that my orthopedic surgeon had completed for me. The office was uncrowded and the friendly Jose offered to help me. He even pulled up a chair so I wouldn't have to stand on my cast and crutches. I will go so far as to say Jose was more thoughtful than some of the office staff at the orthopedist's office who had no problem having me stand and wait while they futzed around on the computer. The affable Jose joked around and made the entire visit very pleasant and painless. He was clear about how temporary placards are to be used and the whole process was very quick. There was a line out the door when we arrived. It took just under 30 mins to take care of our business. The staff is on it here - they keep the line moving and clean cashier workstations between customers. We were there for passport photos. The CSAA tree of phone coverage takes a person everywhere: Claims, New Policy, Billing. But no live person regarding policies. Eventually, I was put through to Edgar Landaverde. Nice guy but impossible to reach thereafter. I called on his direct line. I sent e-mails to his e-mail address. I left word with Bridget, a rather crispy receptionist, with whom I'm not confident Edgar even got my message. I'm left in the dark once again about an upcoming renewal in October. So, here I am with no answers to my questions, no response, and no resolution. Seems to be that a person has to call in on the 1-800 number to get any immediate answers. Completely unhelpful and super rude. My grandma died, so my uncle came with me to the office in Paso Robles for the title transfer. AAA made the copies of the death certificate and everything was good to go except I needed a smog again. Suddently now, they won't accept the paperwork that AAA literally filled out themselves?! I called for a flat bed truck at 6:33 pm on a Wednesday evening. The truck arrived at 4:33 pm the following day. I was forced to leave my car on the side of the road, taking a Uber home. Called AAA 73 times, asking where the truck was ? They kept giving me the run around saying "We can tow the vehicle via pulling it". This is a all wheel drive vehicle, Pulling it will brake the transmission!!!! In my lifetime, have I ever experienced such horrible service. I spent over an hour on the phone and the internet trying to talk to a live person in the San Rafael office,,,I ended up talking to two call center reps. One was totally useless, incoherent, knew nothing about CA . The 2nd guy was in Oklahoma, smart and make a call to San Rafael, and he was put on hold for 10 minutes and then put into voicemail. At least he got experience what its like to be a customer. One hour wasted with no progress on my problem, I will be shopping to for a cheaper alternative with better staffing levels. I thought about it and realized that I didn't want anyone else to have the same experience that I did. I called back and she answered the phone again. Although she was more polite, she kept giving excuses about the reasons for her impolite behavior. She stated that she handed the notary my request for a callback. Today I went to the AAA in San Rafael with a properly completed handicap placard , I was met with A barrage of reasons ( including your father has to be here in person , not true, your father is not a member , so I added him to my account and the ultimate insult (( by the front desk receptionist))how do we know you won't use this for yourself , I have my own placard as I have MS) why my application couldn't be processed is still untold . This was a handicap placard for my soon to be 90 year old father who sufferers from a list of medical conditions to include cardiovascular failure, type two diabetes and most importantly stage 4 dementia. It's difficult enough to take him to the doctors , much less take him out for a haircut or coffee. I thought getting a handicap placard would help facilitate an improved life. Thanks to Melisia and her staff I was greeted with, unprofessionalism , irresponsible behavior and a total lack of intelligence. My experience at the AAA office in San Rafael has lead me to file a complaint and cancel my membership of over 30 years , a membership that I once valued. No Good No help No solution. Simple Requests. Premier Member. Bad system between regions. Bad customer service training (Manager!!!) at the office. Entire afternoon wasted. Details: I get varied expertise in response to inquiries and service requests in my let's say 25 years on and off of AAA membership. Today I spent 40 minutes on 4 calls to AAA premier services and local offices (1:00 to 1:50pm). I got no answers, found one answer myself online (mature driving course) for less than the one offered at $4 discount by AAA, while I was on hold. The first operator I got had transferred me to the queue of a traffic school, not an agent to answer my 2 questions. I was routed to her, i surmise, because I was out of my area, and the queue for the selection I chose was also full. Once she transferred me erroneously, I waited 15 minutes only for them to offer an automated callback. Because the operator had tried to connect me, her # at AAA came up as the callback number. It turns out to be in Texas. Don't know how that works, as it's NorCal and SoCal I was dealing with. I tried to change the callback number according to the voice instructions, but it did not work, it kept repeating her AAA number. So I called THAT number back and got another AAA operator who kept apologizing (but would not offer any explanation about what he could do to change the snafu for the next caller, apparently there's no upward movement of information there), and transferred me to an assuredly live person who could assuredly answer my questions. Have his name and designation, but whats the use. New operator was a live person, but she got no call prefacing. So I explained again. She was not familiar with the auto consult service (which is listed directly in the Premier brochure and in the Member Handbook) that I was asking for (I was not asking anymore about the driving course, found one myself for $10 in less time and had already signed up). Nobody so far knew what I was asking or had ever heard of it. I wasn't going to do more free consulting that was falling on deaf ears; so I called the local office San Rafael NorCal and did get someone at that location (by google search the local office and press only 0 after calling their number, don't call the number on the card to get the local office or search the AAA website). i was explaining to the agent and he repeatedly interrupted me to get to the point, which was OK and i did, but then he said they don't offer any service of that type. From AAA Member Handbook: "Automotive Expert Consultation AAA Premier Members can receive free advice on vehicle problems and repairs from our specialized team of automotive consultants" I went to the local office to ask for the manager. It was more than 6 mi and 3 exits away. I also needed a copy of my registration with current address, so I went. The receptionist who was a supervisor it turned out, said the manager was at another location, and the acting manger was at lunch (3:20 pm by now), She showed me a line about a referral service on a worn out copy of their brochure. It wasn't a Premier benefit. I didn't want a shop referral. I asked for the actual number to call for Expert Consultation, explaining how on calling no one knew what i wanted or had ever heard of it, and showing her the handbook. She kinda tried to help. I waited in line for my reg copy while she was busy. After checking on my membership, she came back saying I had to call the number on the card. (Everywhere says 'back of the card.' Norcal prints it on the front! It wouldn't have helped [explaining why that is, is more complicated, but trust me confusing and not my fault. Bad system.]) The DMV services attendant said $22 for the reg copy. It is for some paperwork proof bs items i need to gather, so I didn't pay or get the copy. I went to the supervisor and she deferred me to the manager who didn't give even as much of a hoot as the supervisor. How can I help you. Explain Again? I said for the supervisor to do it. It was explained all wrong. The manager, (white tall pregnant, can't miss her, highlight of my afternoon), knowing I had been on the phone since 1:00 said, "call the number. We don't do that here. No solution for you."(get out) Pfff I looked for DMV and there was one only right near the house, I walked in and they gave it free. (20 min wait or 30). But no scene. They were friendly, awesome, accommodating, super nice to me and others i saw as well who had complicated transactions.5pm (Last time I went to renew Reg I returned 3rd time for the same thing and there was a 40 min wait for DMV though the last time, they were going to take my payment at the receptionist. She wouldn't do as the line was long and I would be cutting it. wtf That's the very reason to do it. ) if you need the 200 mi tow it's probably still worth it. expect delays on that and all other services. This time i got nowhere and don't know if i will get anywhere by going to the office. But I am going to try. read more

I usually don't like leaving negative reviews but I'm compelled to do so because this is the second time I've left dissatisfied with the level of service provided for my home insurance. The first time, I showed up with a concern coming from a letter from my mortgage company stating to increase my insurance coverage. A male worker there sat me down, did not ask for my membership number or policy (already indicative that he did not want to help or understand my situation) and told me not to worry about it because the insurance covers 1.5 times the amount stated. That may be true, but it still didn't address my need to increase coverage and if he calculated things out with me, he'd see the 1.5x coverage doesn't cover today's current property values. I showed up again earlier this week wanting to increase insurance for personal property and just my luck to get the same lazy person. Same deal: he did not ask for my information and looked bothered that I was there requesting help. Guess what he told me: we can't accept this valuation and there's nothing we can do for you. I felt this was wrong just like last time, so I called AAA and faxed my paperwork in. Guess what: no issues! They honored my paperwork and increased my insurance, just like I wanted! To management: I recommend you round and observe your home insurance staff there. One of them clearly isn't there to help and is just passing the time. He needs some feedback to do a better job and address your members' needs. If he doesn't want to be there, please change jobs. Everyone else there is fine, so you likely know who this employee is because your employees who help with auto, DMV, and other home insurance needs have been great! read more

Understaffed and inefficient staff. Every time I go here, the wait is minimum 20 minutes. It's a hit and miss with the front greeter and several times the front representatives forget to add your name to the board to be seen by any agent. Then when Agent Judy was ready to see me, she was so rude. She called me into her office while she was talking to another client on the phone and made me wait in her office for 5 minutes listening to her explain the policy to this person. If she wasn't ready for me, she should have resolved the issue with that client first. She didn't and finally decided to ask the client for a call back number. In addition, some of the staff have their personal phones on their persons replying to their texts. On the other hand, Agent Jose and Agent Vong are wonderful. read more

I love AAA. I have the membership, I have the car insurance, and because I love those two so much I'm probably going to get renter's insurance with them as well. This is why you should go to AAA: Membership. Everyone should be a AAA member. I cannot tell you the peace of mind that comes with knowing that if anything happens on the road, I can call them and they will be there to help. Also, pay extra to have more miles to be towed just in case. I broke down on the Grapevine once and my entire tow was covered by my membership. It would have cost me almost $1000 without them! It doesn't even have to be your car. If you are in a friend's car and need help you can still call them. Car insurance. In southern CA I had the unfortunate experiences of being in a couple accidents. Neither were my fault, but in one the girl had insurance, and in the other the guy didn't have insurance and then tried to commit insurance fraud. Fun times. The other insurance company paid for the first one, but the second one it was on AAA to pay for. Even through the process where we were on opposite sides of the table, so to speak, it went very smoothly and I still felt happy with them as my insurance company. They do have different companies for northern and southern CA, but when you switch between the two they can have it so you keep the entire amount of years that you have been with AAA on your account (more discounts!). The DMV. I love going to the DMV as much as the next person; it's such a wonderful place full of sunshine and rainbows. However, if it is just a little too joyful for you to handle on any given day, you can file a bunch of your DMV forms at the AAA office. The lines tend to be quicker, prob a max of twenty minutes as opposed to......(I'll allow you to fill in your own flowery verbiage there). Free maps. You get free maps. And those maps won't lose their charge or suddenly lose signal and have no idea which way is up. Depending on your profession, you may get additional discounts on your insurance. Side note: For the southern CA branches your membership gets you passport pictures for free, in northern CA you do have to pay for them. It is cheaper to go elsewhere, though it would probably be a lot faster here...depends on your priorities. I've heard there is a "Left us a long and glowing Yelp review" discount....right? No? Well, a girl can always hope. read more

This location is huge compared to the others I've been to in Souther California. The inside is so clean and nice looking. I had an appointment with one of their insurance person, Judy, and was greeted promptly and didn't have to wait long. Judy was very friendly, helpful, and personable. Okay so i have been a member of AAA since forever but going to this location should be a pleasure experience but instead EDGAR LAGAVERDE is sooo ego-ish thinking that he works here and knows it all when infact i kinda know already what needs to be done but instead to solve it right there,right then he asked me to step aside so he can chit chat with his co-worker. Like really after a looooong line all you do is chit chat with ur co-worker instead of helping a customer. Just joined Triple A a year ago and finally used them today when my car died. Topher from Corte Madera Towing came 20 min before the eta, was super helpful and friendly, and REPLACED MY BATTERY without me having to be towed! He showed me the battery reading that was now at zero (I have a 2014 fusion), installed a new battery with a 3-year warranty plus an additional 3-year prorated warranty, and charged me no service cost! If I had had to tow it to the nearest shop, I would have paid ~$40 more for the battery, plus a service fee of $30, plus uber rides to get where I needed to go while it was in the shop. Totally made my money back in this one instance. YES!!! read more

I recently bought a Lexis from an out of state seller. The plates were not current and I was concerned I would have a long process to get Everything straightened out at the dmv office. Fortunately, I remembered that AAA can help with such matters and I went to this office soon after it opened yesterday. The service was efficient, staff was helpful, and what could have been a very long wait, took less than an hour of filling in papers, paying fees and even going to a nearby smog test station for a mandatory check for out of state cars. I was impressed! I completed the process and took my registration papers, new plates with a and sigh of relief out the door...totally satisfied by what had just occurred. I was surprised to see no one in line, and went right to one of the people behind the counter to register a used vehicle I just purchased. The person behind the counter was courteous, and had me out of there in about five minutes. Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe the service is not as bad as some people are saying it is.
