We arrived 20 minutes before closing and were told we could choose a table. We made our selections and he asked if we'd like our tea first or after the meal. We both said first. We placed our order and waited. We used up what water was on the table and grabbed another pitcher from a different table, as no one passing us ever offered a refill. We were served a spicy tomato broth in a cup. Then our food showed up and looked amazing. We asked about our tea and he said "we don't have tea, something else?" Really the only devastating part of our meal. We were offered tea and waited for it, and finally asked and there was no tea. I did enjoy the mango lassi but was quite looking forward to the chai (which is what led to my missing star). The butter chicken and mutton were both flavorful and spicy. The breads, amazing! Love the yogurt as well. Everything arrived quickly and fresh. We will be back, albeit earlier next time. read more

While some of my fellow yelpers can't stop raving about the place others felt the place did not meet their expectations. Either ways, the place does have a ton of hype associated with it. I finally managed to check out the place for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We were a party of 5 and arrived at Arhaar by 11:40 am and found a bunch of tables already beaming with people. Looks like their menu keeps changing we did not find many items that have been pictured on their Yelp page. We got seated pretty quickly and resonating with most of the reviews we WAITED! It took almost an hour if not more for the food to arrive!! They KAL DOSA for my pre-schooler is spongy, tasty and delicious! The chutneys and sambar were not a disappointment either. The idiyappam is well cooked and comes with a coconut side that could have been sweeter! The malabar parotta is fresh, delicious and on point! The chettinad shrimp curry is tasty though the shrimp were on the under cooked side. The coconut mutton curry is tasty with the right note of spices though the pieces weren't the best and were on the chewy side. The madras filter coffee isn't any madrasi or in anyway Indian. I would skip it altogether the next time! The star of our order was the fried fish( not in the pictures), it's totally flavorful and cooked just right!! It's perfection to me! Not in anyway bland neither over spicy, again just right! Overall we had a decent experience with the food which comes with a decent amount is wait time before you can devour the same! We came back to try this place after a long gap of almost a decade. Sad to say not much has changed. The service is still haphazard- expect to sit waiting 15 min before a waiter stops by. Then you order...and wait...and wait. Those drinks you ordered never show up despite a friendly reminder. The samosas arrive and they are good. The curry wings are too - even though you ordered the Tikka wings. The Roti is hot and tasty, but wait - didn't you order the garlic naan? Ah, who cares. At least it arrived. Then after a twenty minute gap where no one has shown up, you get your bill. Those drinks that never came? Yep, you've been charged for them. And the 20% preselected tip? Not so fast. The food was just ok but the silly service guarantees you'll skip another decade. There's too many great Indian eateries on the Eastside to waste your time hoping this place improves. We ordered Masala chai, vazhaipoo vadai, cauli fry, bisibelabath and vegetable biriyani. The appetizers and chai were very good. Cauli fry is a must try. I think they make their own ketchup (it was less sweet, fresh and loved it). The coconut and green chutney were tasty. Rasam was served as complementary. Though it was a little sweeter to my liking, it was good to drink. Lemon pickle was very tasty. It was not a traditional bisibelabath but more of a Sambar rice but a very good one. The biriyani was more of a pulao. Mild spice level with vegetables and very tasty. Option to add paneer would have been nice. Service was super quick even though the restaurant was full on a Friday afternoon. Listen - we live in Federal Way and have driven to Snoqualmie to pick up take out on a Friday night. It took us over 2 hours round trip and was absolutely worth it. Our 10 year old is obsessed with this place, so much so, that this is where he wants to go for birthday dinner. We randomly heard about this place when we were hiking near Snoqualmie falls and a sweet Indian fam was having a picnic lunch of takeout from Aahaar. It smelled amazon and we commented how good it looked. This family offered us a piece of parotta and we all immediately knew we had to find this gem. We've been regulars ever since. Pros: Incredibly sweet staff! The chef has even visited our table so our son could thank him. Amazing food. There's been nothing we haven't liked. You know it's good when it is filled with Indian customers. Cons: It's small. Super small. You're sitting very close to other guests. Depending how busy they are, it might be a little wait for food. Order an appetizer while you wait. They also serve a small complimentary portion of soup to each guest when you arrive. We would LOVE for them to open a location further south closer to us. We took a very very impulsive trip to eat here as they were serving Onam special thalis this weekend. Oh boy! I've never waited as long for food anywhere. We went in a little late hoping for the crowd to be a little less but still ended up waiting for 2 full hours for a table. This place has a no reservation policy. So you've got to go there and put down your name and walk around the area or have a good nap in your car. However, the wait was worth it. It was the first time I had Onam Sadya in the US and it blew me away. They had nearly 20 items on the menu and everything was sheet perfection. When food's that good, you won't remember waiting so long. Knocking off two stars since we didn't appreciate being treated coldly. The lady in the front will not look at your face until she wants to, while you stand right in front of her for 5 full minutes. This was my first time coming to Aahaar! We came right as it opened on Sunday morning at 11:00 AM. By 11:30 in the morning it was packed. They have you scan a code for their menu. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and some wonderful tomato-y broth ( I don't know the name of this soup, but it was flavorful without being too filling). We ordered: 2 Samosas-great way to start off this list! The chutneys made these pop. 2 Dosas-a spinach one and an onion one. We preferred the spinach one, but the onion one was great as well. The cashew cream was the perfect balance of flavor and texture to add to the dosa as well as our chutneys. Chettnidad Shrimp Curry- this was heavenly on the basmati rice! The sauce is peppery and full. It did not overshadow the freshness of the shrimp that came with it. We could drink this sauce. Kerala Fried Fish-very bony! But once you pick the bones out, it melts in your mouth. Lemon is a plus! Madras Coffee-this milky coffee was excellent. It has a lovely peppery kick at the end without being spicy. Chai tea-a tried and true classic. Aahaar has the BEST chutneys we have ever had! They came with several of our dishes and we could not get enough. None of our sauces lasted long. Hidden gem in Snoqualmie, a 5 minute drive from Snoqualmie Falls. The first place we think of when we crave South Indian cuisine. It caters to our entire family's palate. My toddler loves their crispy ghee dosai/dosa with a side of kids mango lassi (yogurt drink). A very small place but with amazing food. We often go to skiing in Snoqualmie so this is a go to food place. It have huge wait so try to come before 12 for lunch and 5 for dinner . They have two non dairy options, the coconut vegetable kurma pictured and the eggplant ennagai (not pictured). The coconut vegetable kurma was good but a little bit too sweet for me to finish, and the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were both good - I liked the chicken tikka masala better. Ordered chai, mango lassi (they didn't have butter milk around 6 PM), Amravati chicken and Aahaar dosa rolls. Amravati chicken was not that spicy as I expected, but was good. I did feel it dry so had to request coconut chutney and the server was kind enough to get it. Mango lassi was really amazing. Right amount of sugar. Aahar dosa rolls were the show stopper. I was expecting just cut dosa while it was actually lots of potato stuffed dosa with cheese and tomato. It was too filling. I have to do a takeout. The chutney that it came with it, looked like sambar but it was actually really nice curry. It went well with the dosa. We were at the Snoqualmie falls and decided to try out my daughter's favorite South Indian restaurant. First visit for me. Rasam was tasty, masala dosa was good and steamed idlies were good as well. This place has a different concept of typical sambhar or chutney quantities. We both decided to enjoy Madras Coffee- flavorful south indian style coffee latte after lunch. I really wish I had not. There was nothing Madras coffee about it. When South Indian coffee gets delivered on your table within a minute. There is something not right about it. I could feel the heavy cream in my stomach. Highlight of my coffee was half way into the coffee, a long black hair appeared in mug. I guess that did it for me. I returned the coffee mugs showing server the complimentary hair they served in the coffee. Instead of saying anything, she oooohhhh and turned back to go to kitchen. We came here for dinner tonight after a long time. They have good south Indian food, but usually have long wait times, sometimes up to 2 hours on weekends. Looks like they aren't busy for weekday dinner. We got Eral varuval - Chennai style fried spicy prawns for appetizer, and got Kerala fried fish, and Karikai Korma for the main course. The appetizer was served after the fried fish, but it was very well marinated, and really good. Kerala fried fish was also very well marinated and cooked. We come to Aahar for the Kerala fried fish. Ever since we dined at Kathakali a few months ago we have been wanting to check out their sister establishment, Aahar. It's a small place with hardly 12 tables. We reached the place at 7 pm on a Saturday evening, and had to wait around 35 mins for a table (we were a group of 5). We had already decided what we wanted to eat during the wait, so we were quick to order Cauli fry, Medhu vada, Fried idli, Spinach masala dosa, Malabar parotta, Idiyappam, Eggplant ennagai, Egg korma, Rose milk, and Filter coffee. The service was super fast! We had the appetizers on the table less than 5 mins after we placed the order. Coming to the taste, the cauli fry was crispy, but a tad too oily. I would definitely pass on the medhu vada next time, it was too dense and the accompanying chutney and sambhar weren't great either. The Idli fry was the best among the appetizers, crispy fried idlies tossed with sautéd onions, gunpowder + ghee, yumm! The main course dishes arrived in quick succession right after we had polished off the appetizers. The spinach masala dosa did not have any spinach in it! It was the usual masala dosa smeared with a mint chutney inside. Other than the misleading name, it tasted pretty good. They also gave us a complimentary soup/ rasam that we enjoyed. The star dishes of the day were the two curries - eggplant ennagai and egg korma. The ennagai especially was my favorite with perfect balance of spices. The Malabar parotta was good, but I would pass on the idiyappam next time. The idiyappam wasn't soft, and the accompanying coconut milk was too thick/ strong. My taste buds prefer a moderately thick and mildly sweetened version of coconut milk. Though the service was good otherwise, we had to remind them about our order of rose milk, and our filter coffee never arrived. We had a really good meal overall. I would definitely go back, but only order the right things next time - their South Indian curries. read more

One of my favorites Indian restaurants in the US of A. Everything is authentic AF, and some items are truly, truly unique (especially the badam halwa) I usually end up here on one of the 4 festival days, for their festival thali. But all the items on the menu are phenomenal anyway. They start off by serving you hot rasam as an appetizer(compliments of the restaurant). I usually get the thali but if you were looking for appetizers, the spinach cashew pakoras, prawns fry, idly podi, valaipoo vadai are on point. Main course has plenty of variety, I can say that the garlic kolambu, fish curry, avial are top notch. All the breads are great, especially the parotta. And then thali- you will know what it is to be an authentic South Indian once you try their festival thali (4 times a year). And finally, the real winner here is their custom made Badam Halwa (almond halwa). My mouth waters as I type this, might just drive down to just get the halwa. GODDAMN IT IS GOOD. 5 freakin stars. We were a party of 4; 20 minutes after ordering ONE entrée arrived, which my wife ate as no one else's order was in sight. 20 minutes after she finished, and after two inquiries about "where is our food?", the other 3 entrees arrived. When we'd finished eating we had to flag down the waiter TWICE, and a busboy once, before they would give us our check. The food was good, but it was the worst service I'd ever received. I regret now that I only left a small tip instead of leaving none. Won't be back to Aahaar anytime soon. read more
