After going to Thailand in 2016, I was unable to find a place that had khao soy (spelling?) in San Diego. Well they have it here as a lunch special, and it's delicious. Their Thai tea is also better than average. I would recommend! read more

I visited Thailand and since then have always looked for authentic Thai food. I had the Khao soi (curry noodles). So flavorful and delicious. I highly recommend! Also true Thai spice- I got mild and thought it was spicy (in a good way!)- hard to find that here in the states. Loved this place and the food. Omg this place is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO incredibly delicious! Their menu is limited but I could care less because they have everything I love - curry and delicious coconut soup! The absolute best part about this place is that their spicy scale is not made for white people. If you order spicy you will get spicy! They even have extra spicy and for someone who eats fire I can't tell you how much I appreciate real spiciness - I hate when I order "spicy" and feel like the restaurant just doesn't believe me ! I've gobbled up the green curry with vegetables - it's amazing! And the Tam Kha coconut soup - both delicious. Take out and in restaurant have both been great experiences. Best Tom Kha soup I've EVER had. I crave it weekly. As well as the shrimp fresh rolls with peanut sauce. They're huge. I just have those and the bowl of soup and I'm very satisfied. Maybe it matters where you live, but when I order through Grub Hub, my soup arrives hot!!! They have tables outside on the patio if you want to sit outside these days like I do. read more

This place is a pretty good Thai place for the business crowd that it mainly serves. Dining area is nice enough to bring and treat colleagues and some clients. Still waiting for my order for pickup. I ordered two appetizers and then show up for the delivery time and have been sitting here for 15 minutes. I ordered spring rolls and fried calamari. I have been waiting now for a total of 50 minutes since I placed the order. Also while waiting here there was no acknowledgment from the staff and they put the order In when I arrived, which was ~30 minutes after I placed the original order. Not worth your trouble. After visiting Northern Thailand, I struggled to find a Thai restaurant in SD that sells Khao soi. I was THRILLED to discover Aaharn who creates a Khao soi that best resembles the Khao soi I had DAILY in Thailand. Everything I have had here tastes as authentic as possible using US ingredients and spices. Love the whole staff as well. Pricing is extremely fair. No complaints!! Oh! What a nice small place! First off... they have happy hour for alcohol and food everyday! Up until 7 pm! I missed it but I'll be back for this for sure! Prices are decent with some items being a little more on the spendy side but when it's good, it's worth paying for. It was just me so I wasn't able to order everything I wanted but I did get the spring rolls with the shrimp which were good. Nothing fantastic but right on par for springs rolls and peanut sauce. Then came the Tom Kha soup. What a deal and boy was it good! $5 for chicken Tom Kha for one and it was a big bowl! I then thought that wouldn't be enough food (which it was more than plenty) so I decided to order the Chicken Satay salad. For $9 it was a huge salad and had a lot of variety of greens in it. Very disappointing. Got the green curry and the potatoes were watery, the carrots tasted terrible and I think must have been previously frozen, they were rubbery. The sauce was nothing special either. Crazy to pay for such shabby food at such a high price. Service was also pretty blah, they seemed to just hang around not doing much and neglect the customers, maybe it wasn't their day, but unfortunately that reflects in reviews like this. Great happy hour lasting until 7pm offers good wine for $5/glass, $5 fresh spring rolls, gyoza, and a few other items. regularly priced $5 Tom Ka soup was a generous portion (bowl rather than cup) and entrees as little as $10 are very large, certainly enough for two people or great leftovers. By far the best Thai food. I love their pumpkins curry with pork shank. It has a very fragrant curry taste*. (Notice the asterisk). When I ordered the dish, I asked for max level spicy because I'm a badass. Little did I know that all the Thai restaurants I went to before nerfed their spice. This place is no joke. I'm in tears and I downed 3 bottles of water and the dish is not half done. Back to the fragrance: before the spice killed my taste bud, it had a very distinctive floral taste. I had walked passed this place and smelled it's rich flavors for a while before I decided to try it. I have a soft spot for Thai food, and particularly Red Curry, so having it so close to my office was a boon, and a fantastic opportunity to expand my horizons (Burger Lounge and Kebab Shop have their shelf lives after all). So how'd it go? The Good: I like what they've done with the decor. It's modern and minimalist with a new-age vibe throughout. The natural light reflects nicely off of the lightly colored furniture and floor. Their menu is varied and vast (for a lunch menu). There's something for everyone, whether you're a carnivore, a pescatarian (like me) or a vegetarian. The portion sizes from what I've seen, are generous enough, and the service was friendly and fast - they turned my table over in less than 20 minutes at 11:30 in the morning. The Bad: As I mentioned before, I am a pescatarian. That means that I end up eating more than 3 lbs of fresh salmon on a weekly basis. I know the difference between fresh and frozen salmon and would stake my life that the salmon that they served me with my salmon fried rice was frozen. Salmon is not supposed to be chewy and has a naturally rich, almost buttery taste to it due in part to it's fat content which is stripped away when you freeze it. I wouldn't mind paying $15 for Thai food. I do mind paying $15 for frozen 'anything' - that's what Denny's is for. Furthermore, I had never guessed that I'd eat at a Thai food place that can't make their dishes adequately spicy to taste. The option that I was given to pour hot sauce on my meal was unsatisfactory. The Business: In a case like this, I'd have liked to see the "basics" paid better mind to. I don't need my rice stacked in a cone shape if my fish is going to be frozen. I truly didn't know what to expect, and I wouldn't mind giving the venue one more try to see if EVERY time of day offers the same fish quality, but the first impression certainly missed the mark. Went to Stone for a beer and they recommended this place. Food was really good, but we were not warned about the spice level by anyone including the waitress. My wife got medium spice for for her curry and couldn't eat her meal and she loves super spicy food. The staff was great though and switched her food for one with less spice. Good Thai restaurant near the train station in downtown. Came here for lunch right before noon and our party of two was able to be seated right away. Two thirds of the restaurant was empty but filled up shortly after we were seated. The steamed fish with garlic, lime and chilis is very tasty and good. The portion is enough for two people. The chicken panang curry is also good but not the best that I've had. It has broccoli in it and although I like broccoli I'm not a fan of it in my panang curry. I've also had the chicken larb which is another good dish...I'm not sure if it's supposed to be eaten with lettuce like chicken lettuce wraps but it doesn't come with much lettuce and it doesn't come with rice. I've ordered the medium spice level before and it was too spicy for me so I order mild at this place and it's still spicy. read more

We did takeout during COVID, so maybe an off night. Very average Thai. Much like pizza - decent even when average. Prawn Pad Thai ($21 so we had expectations) - not great. Noodles stuck together in a clump at the bottom, scrambled egg mostly in one chunk vs bits tossed about, only a very few bean sprouts, minimal peanuts, old brown wedge of lime. Prawns, whereas dramatic with heads on, smelled a bit fishy, and were definitely way overcooked - tough and dry. Tom yum soup (tofu veggie version) was good, not as Thai-yummy as usual, but good and loaded with veggies. Panang curry was the winner - rich taste. Quinoa fresh rolls were really nice, fresh, peanut sauce was very good, albeit super oily (a first for me). read more

My office orders take out from here all the time and even if we order an hour in advance there is still an insanely long wait just to pick up the food. The serve is terrible! Best Thai food in the downtown area. And we've tried quite a few. Only one that serves Khao Soi, a northern Thai dish that does not disappoint. Hope this place sticks around. Also - the Stone tasting room in the same building does not serve food so you can actually order Thai food to go and pair it with some delicious brews from Stone. Enjoy! read more
